in the spirit of enlightening one another, because i see some common misconception about Nairobi here a lot. 1.Nairobi has about 4 business districts, they include the following a) The old CBD (this the one that is easily recognizable on photos) b) Upper Hill the fastest growing business district in Africa c) Westlands d) Mombasa road kenya's commercial and high end property segments is doing pretty good, you can give us that however, we are doing poorly in lower end properties, mass transport and gabbage collection. one of the major reasons why westerners prefer Nairobi over Dar is because of its good climate, Nairobi climate is cool all year, infact there is very little need for air conditioning in Nairobi, this is what i love about Nairobi the most. |
read these excerpts from NY Times on some of the reasons the first EAC 1967-77 collapsed. clearly indicating that Kenyattas primitive way of accumulating wealth was a major tumbling block to the infant commission '' Kenya. where an entrenched economic structure on capitalist lines existed at independence, modeled itself on the mixed economies of Western Europe. Tanzania. on the other hand, had received such a meager colonial inheritance that its independent rulers had virtually a clean canvas to work upon. Starting with President Nyerere's Fabian socialism, Tanzania gradually moved to a more thorough communal system, with an overwhelming state sector plus peasant cooperatives. Above all, the ideological differences arose from the accidents of leadership. President Jomo Kenyatta is an earthy man with an acquisitive nature. President Nyerere of Tanzania is an ascetic intellectual. Each imposed his personal philosophy upon his people''. |
Mkenya2019:sweet potatoes yes, and Tanzanians import a lot of Irish potatoes from Kenya, its a symbiotic relationship. |
Kazikazi:i know Tanzanians have many reasons to be mad at us,some of the mistrust of Kenyans by Tanzanians emanated from the failed EAC, when Kenya illegally retained most of the defunct commission assets, it proved to Tanzanians that Kenyans greed was out of this world, Kenyans tbh looks down upon Tanzanians, this is partly due to ignorance and arrogance, many of these Kenyans have never stepped a foot in Tanzania and therefore only talk about things they read on social media or watch on local media, like i said Tanzania is coming up really good. arguably the most harmonious society in Africa, Mwalimu taught you guys really well, Kenya and Nigeria have a lot to learn from Tanzania on how to build a nation, Tanzania is truly a complete nation, others are just states. |
i have never really understood the hatred between Kenyans and Tanzanians, this thing f.vcks with me! as a luo man my community straddles both countries and whenever am in Tanzania i get nothing but love, i can't tell you how many times i have toyed with the idea of taking up a Tanzanian citizenship, people who don't understand our shared heritage are the ones always yapping Kenya this Tanzania that, guys stop planting seeds of discord amongst us communities with presence in both of these countries such as maasai and luos. where do you expect us to stand and that guy who is claiming to be Tanzanian, i mean come on, even I who ain't Tanzanian can see that you are not Tanzanian, i have always meant to ask you guys this, what do you get out of this useless arguments? if its a debate about devt indices however you like but do it with civility and humility, its not a must you defend your country even though its flaws are everywhere to be seen, as for me, i will always consider myself a citizen of the greater east Africa, my people are DRC,S SUDAN ETHIOPIA,UGANDA,KENYA and TANZANIA. So any development in any of these countries excites me, let promote integration and not disintegration. and please stop sharing photos of those starving turkanas, you are not helping matters, its not their fault that they are hungry and suffering but a dysfunctional system which the Kenyans do not want to accept. |
tylann:now you are talking, remember there was also that bill in parliament that sought to make nairobi a tax haven, nairobi is also looking to become a mineral exchange hub hence the dalliance with the new Congolese govt, these are smart moves if implemented well. another one is the proposed kisumu industrial park, and the expansion and dredging of the kisumu port, remember if the Kenyan govt fails to actualize this project and the Tz Govt goes ahead and completes the central corridor all the way to Bukoba and connects it with port bell in Uganda, Tz will dominate the regional trade and you know what this will mean for Kenya. |
obaaderemi:Kenyan manufacturing fail to about 7% of GDP THIS YEAR, its hard to believe that there was a time its above 20% of GDP, something is seriously wrong here. |
tylann:yes you cannot survive on Kes.6,000 in Kenya and i dont think whether you can survive on that amount in ethiopia either, but the ethipian government is looking at the long term goals not short term gains. sometimes its better a half a loaf than no bread at all. thats the superior logic here |
Jonraid:and i pointed that out, yes it is not something to celebrate, but look at the bigger picture, even in china when massive industrialization started there, cheap labor was one of the factors that drove industries to china, so many companies will rush to invest in Ethiopia due to factors such as cheap labor, then once labor becomes more educated the wages will rise and by the time this same industries will be looking for another country in the third world to relocate their companies Ethiopia would have gain so much in terms of knowledge transfer so much so that it will have its own local apparel industries to compete with the rest of the world. remember its not always about wages but transfer of knowledge. |
tylann:no. Kenyas manufacturing is not a joke, its the high cost of production that is killing manufacturing in Kenya, towns such as nakuru in their glory days use to be manufacturing haven but due to high taxes, exorbitant power cost, higher wages compared to neighboring countries etc the industries died, i know you said you are from nakuru, can you share images of the collapsed industries here? i mean nakuru's industrial area is a ghost town, the government must fix these, last week KEPSA, urged the govt to atleast lower corporate tax to 20% to spur industrialization in the country. under the prevailing circumstances do you expect us to compete with Uganda and Tanzania? or even Ethiopia where a worker in their EPZ earn an equivalent of kes.6,000 while their Kenyan counterparts earns almost kes.15,000 |
obaaderemi:thats true, Kenya has a sophisticated economy, but on infrastructure, i think Ethiopia is leading Kenya on these race, power in Kenya is very expensive, its the most expensive in the region thereby stifling industrialization, Ethiopia will soon unveil the grand Renaissance dam further strengthening their position as the leading power producer in the region, again china is shifting most its labor intensive industry to Ethiopia, the entire Africa will soon buy stuff from china only to be shipped from Ethiopia, Ethiopia has a brighter future than all the east African economies |
Nigerian economy is one of the largest informal economies in the world alongside Thailand, current credible sources put Nigerians nominal GDP at about 500b dollars, but in actual sense Nigerian economy is at 1trillion dollars. i don't know what people gain by denying the obvious, plus Kenya will never surpass the Ethiopian economy again, Ethiopia receives the largest share of FDI in the entire east African region coupled with their large population and consistent growth rates year in year out. remember Ethiopia doesn't suffer fluctuations in economic growth due to elections such as Kenya, and with the recent arrival of their reform minded prime minister in the the name of Abiy Ahmed and the normalization of ties with Eritrea, only sky is the limit for Ethiopia. Kenya from now onwards we will play second fiddle to Ethiopia until infinity due to the bad economic decisions from our economic gangsters masquerading as leaders. it suffice to say HAIL the new king in east Africa. ETHIOPIA |
tylann:Ethiopia is not even a democracy to begin with, go and learn the reason why ethnic federalism is not working has it should. even in an ethnic federation democracy must still be the lifeline that sustains the nation. |
rvp2018:men i wish i could give you a million likes, this is the problem with the so called devolution, its nothing more than the former districts we use to run with nothing substantial devolution, imagine counties education functions are limited to Early childhood education and village polytechnics! who does that, counties can only construct village feeder roads, i mean its a fraud, devolution or federalism is about functions not money, money will follow functions |
Problemkid1:oh,i love football, let me search the thread, and follow it, you know for the first time in 15 years kenya will be in Afcon, even though am not sure of how will perform in that group,we are pooled with Senegal and Algeria i feel like we are already out at the group stages, who knows upset do happen we might sail through. miracles happen, the Leicester way. |
Problemkid1: i have really enjoyed these, you weren't around for the most part of the night, were you having a good time? sorry i need to know. ![]() |
TayserMahri:my friend it is on record, a section of gema community leaders, read leaders wanted to secede from Kenya after they failed to stop moi's ascension to the presidency, i know you know the shenanigans that they were trying, like changing the constitution and shi;t of course it did not last long 'cause moi had to appease them with the vice presidency, these are facts, am a very responsible Kenyan and will never post gossips, the fundamental reality is Kenya must be reconstituted for our children to partake in the sharing of the national cake, only then will we truly be a nation, right now everyone is pulling on his own direction, sober up bruh, shine your eyes, don't allow politicians to think for you, you sound educated, use your education for the greater good of the republic |
TayserMahri:all these are great but first we must fix our socio-political challenges. you are here castigating my opinion, bring yours we compare the meet at the middle, no one has the monopoly of knowledge. |
samorobo:i tell you, these people are a bunch of rocks, no matter how hard you hit a rock it will never bleed the good thing is the message is finally home. Nigerians these is not how most Kenyans behave, majority are reasonable, maybe he was allocated a beach plot by the old jomo and he is afraid that the owners will take it back when federalism is instituted ![]() |
TayserMahri:i thought you said you ain't kikuyu? by the way stop quoting me and i won't respond to your half baked arguments. i can see we are not on the same level intellectually, please don't just use your head to carry your teethby the way do you even have a political ideology? if yes, then be bold and share it here. mine might be radical, but don't you dare call me a fool. a man who stands for nothing is nothing in the table of human civilization. or you are just the kind who get swept by political euphoria every five years? |
TayserMahri:you see! i have been arguinging with a bunch of ignoramus all along, dude to know where you are going you must know where you are coming from, dismiss however you want, the kenya national archives is a free govt resource, kindly make some use of it. |
gallivant:how was i stoking ethnic tension?, the bible says by their actions you shall know them, jomo Kenyatta destroyed the first kenyan federation, i hope you know kenya was a federal state before, he did these to steal land from other ethnic communities, of course his criminal son and his supporters will never accept federalism for fear of repossession of their illegal loot. tell them to sort the squatter problem in central kenya first then come sit down i lecture you on nation building. |
tylann:look at the person calling tribalist buffoon!! i have really suffered on nairaland, dude you know nothing about statecraft, you should be begging me to tutor you for free by now. but get these, holding all factors constant you will one day revisit these conversion and say, cossano made sense, just like during the moi era when the kikuyus wanted to secede, now power went back to them and all over sudden they forgot their grievances, Kenya is not a monarchy, power will soon change hands and the dismantling of your elitist established will begin, i bet you'll start crying secession again. pathetic people. |
TayserMahri:i have no words for you!! maybe you majored in food production! leave politics to those who studied politics and international relations, you know nothing about politics. |
gallivant:you must be the chilly dawg king to know a man with bi.tchy tendencies. just my observation. |
tylann:AHA! you see! i was right all along!!, you and your ilk is what ails this country, thinking you can always have your way, dawg that time is gone, you will be suprised with that majority bull.shi.t you keep vomitting, by the way since when did luyhia vote with kikuyus? |
tylann:we will shove it right down your throat, kenyans are more wiser than you think, your people can fool some people sometime but not everyone, i will leave on my own pleasure and i will always be the gatekeeper of the truth, ill be watching you, any misinformation will be corrected pronto, do yourself a favor and don't worry about me. on the booties, what do you expect am an heterosexual man. |
gallivant:who asked for your support? stop fooling yourselves, when you were asking me questions din't you expect my response? anyway i have had enough of these thread, i think i have found more useful threads to follow on Nairaland. |
tylann:who are you to tell me where to take my views? were you the one who invited me here, typical kenyan spoilt brat, who doesnt even know where the country is headed. good luck with the bullshi..t you are spewing here. which sane kenyan will wnt to be part of thses nonsense you are trying to prove here, nye nye nye, get a life and promote something that might benefit your country. |
