Not only MI, so many other Nigerians campaigned for this government including Sowore and I, we all campaigned for them b'cos of sweet (lies) promises they told us, they said Nigeria will be better policed, bokoharam will be crushed, unemployment will be reduced, health care will improve, housing for all etc. If Nigerians who voted for them feel betrayed and every other Nigerian who feel we deserve better have every right to express their disgust without been mocked or criticised.

MI, Sowore and I have not committed any crime for voting or campaigning for someone who came with a better plan, we will keep pushing till we achieve the desired change.

God bless you plenty, they know what to do they won't just do it, we have 3 refineries in this country, this APC govt told us before 2015 election that they are going to fix the refineries, if they will fix it before 2023 election that's another story for another day.

During elections politicians promise to fix the problems they caused just to decieve Nigerians to remain in power. Most of them don't do anything else apart from politics b'cos of how lucrative political office can be. They want people to remain poor so they can capitalize on their situation to cheat them more, imagine what will happen to IDPs in northeast if they fail to vote for whoever they've instructed them to vote for.

The moment Nigerians are financially independent and start making money for themselves, they will start asking questions politicians will not be able to answer. Hence, development must be far from the people so they can remain as tools in the hands of politicians.

The only way one can stop youth moving out is to develop an industrial economy...an economy not dependent on oil,but dependent on exporting goods and services for the global market.

We cannot, as a nation, remain dependent on selling raw materials and oil and sharing the money to import things...as it is causing crisis, and also more and more issues for us , and severe lack of jobs.

Nigeria must industrialize. It is our only solution.

PoliticsOpen Letter To The Government Of Nigeria. by cptjacksparrow(op): 4:50pm On Jun 03, 2021
Many lives have been lost in the northeast which could have been avoided while hundreds of millions have gone into fighting insurgents which could have been diverted to meaningful things such as education and health care. Many homes destroyed, many families displaced, many children denied education, many women kidnapped and raped, many businesses ruined in the northwest due to religious extremism.

Recently, governors from the south reached an agreement to ban open grazing in other to curb kidnapping in the region, these commendable move instead of been applauded was rather criticized by the Attorney General of the federation who could not hide his preference for a tribe forgetting he also serves as the Minister of Justice responded by suggesting same treatment for spare part dealers who are doing their legitimate business in the north and pay their rent and other government dues.

Federal government of Nigeria is yet to respond by reminding the host states (northwest states) that Nigeria is a circular state and not a religious one and every Nigerian have the right to live and work in any part of the country, doing their legitimate business. Many villages have been attacked and people kidnapped by terrorists though preferred to be addressed as bandits by the government for reasons best known to them.

A group is complaining of marginalization and all a government claiming to be responsible can do is to threaten such group with genocide.
This same government which has been accused from different quarters of nepotism and lopsided appointment has done little or nothing to prove it's critics wrong. The same government who have given scholarship to terrorists and bandits is now threatening to repeat 1960s genocide on the people he should be explaining to and promise to make amends.

I call upon the federal government of Nigeria to stand up to it's responsibility, pacify aggrieved groups and carry every tribe along in nation building, let everyone do their business in any part of the country without the fear of attacks, let every religion learn to tolerate others and respect everyone's religious preference, let the government give every Nigerian sense of belonging and promote equity and fairness.

PoliticsRe: Ahmed Lawal: Nigeria’s Corporate Existence Under Threat by cptjacksparrow: 12:12am On May 27, 2021
Why will the corporate existence of Nigeria not be under threat? When we have a cult-like political ruling class who oppress the citizens and deny them freedom of speech. We live in a country where peaceful protest is a crime, graduates are been mocked and left jobless because we have leaders who lack vision, farmers can't go to their farms because of the fear of been killed by those who claim to own the country, the list is endless.

Address the root cause of agitations across the country rather than using the military to harass free speech and expression.

Nigerian youths asked for good governance during endsars, the govt responded with sponsored thugs, when that failed they used the military to attack armless youths.

I really do not pity the police and military men who lost their lives in recent attacks expecially in SE because they have allowed themselves to be used by the political class against the innocent citizens which is their primary responsibility to protect, I sympathize with the families they left behind.
PoliticsDrama As Kaduna Govt Agree To End Face-off With Labour After Initial Decline by cptjacksparrow(op): 5:29pm On May 21, 2021
The committee is mandated to revert to the Minister of Labour and Employment on or before next Tuesday, May 25, to enable the completion of the process of resolution.

A mild drama played out at the meeting between officials of the Kaduna State Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as the delegation from Kaduna initially refused to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached between the two parties.
However, they later signed after consultation with government officials in Kaduna, AIT reports.

The MoU read by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige agreed to set up a 10-member committee to fashion out a work plan to resolve the impasse between the Kaduna State Government and NLC following disagreements over the sacking of thousands of civil servants by the Nasir El-Rufai government.

The Head of Civil Service in the state, Bariatu Mohammed will chair the committee while the NLC Deputy President, Najeem Yasin will serve as its vice-chairperson.

The committee is mandated to revert to the Minister of Labour and Employment on or before next Tuesday, May 25, to enable the completion of the process of resolution.

El-Rufai had declared the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba and some other Labour leaders wanted for "economic sabotage" and likened them to bandits.

The labour leaders had kicked against against El-Rufai's move to sack thousands of workers in the state and subsequently declared a five-day warning strike.

The strike was suspended on Wednesday following the intervention of the Minister of Labour and Employment.

Say it the way it is, we know how nigerian politicians sponsor thugs to attack protesters, exactly the same strategy they used during #endsars protest blaming the the protesters for the violence they sponsored. They pay the oppressed to fight the oppressed. If doctors go on strike will you blame them for shorting down hospital? There's no consensus among Kaduna State residence the only consensus when issues like this arise is to tell the governor to stop mass retrenchment and even employ more to reduce unemployment and poverty in the state. Those thugs were sponsored by Kaduna State government just like #endsars to disrupt the protest and give it a bad name not a consensus among Kaduna State residents.

Arewa1stSon:
Whether on the side of NLC or KDSG, the consensus amongst all sincere residents of Kaduna state is that cutting water supply, electricity and forcefully shutting down hospitals cannot qualify as “protecting the rights of workers.”

Forcefully Shutting down of hospitals in the name of 'protecting the right of workers' is extremely inhuman act. you have the right to painfully censure against the govmnt, but please denying access to health care is hell NO!!

I condemn the attack on protesters by yan janwiya!

I stand with Baba Elrufai...!!

NLC is only acting film, we know how it will end. NLC can't represent the Nigerian people (workers), Nigerians will fight for themselves when they are ready. NLC leadership work hand in hand with the govt, they negotiate rubbish on behalf of the people e.g when govt want to increase fuel to #50 from #30 they (govt) will announce #85 NLC will now call for a protest, govt will now invite them for a dialogue where they will now reduce it to #50, expecting Nigerians to celebrate them for fighting for the masses, abi no be so that short Edo man turn governor? yeye dey smell.
PoliticsMother Of Kaduna Student Accuse Sheikh Gumi, Allies Of Using Them To Make Money by cptjacksparrow(op): 10:07am On May 06, 2021
How Sheikh Gumi, Allies Collected N800,000 From Us To Help Free Our Kidnapped Children —Mother Of Kaduna Student

The controversial cleric has been criticised by some Nigerians for his position that government should negotiate with bandits and yield to their demands.

Some mothers of students kidnapped in Kaduna have accused an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, of capitalising on their challenges to make money. Speaking to journalists, the aggrieved parents narrated their ordeal in Gumi's house.

Thirty-seven students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Kaduna State were kidnapped in their school by bandits on March 11.

Ten of them have been released in batches of five each, leaving 27 students with their abductors.
The controversial cleric has been criticised by some Nigerians for his position that government should negotiate with bandits and yield to their demands.

One of the mothers said, "They took us to Gumi's house, he directed us to an Ahmed, who invited a Fulani man from Kaduna. We contributed N800,000 for him; he told us that was just for transport. I cried and pleaded with him, saying I'm a widow, that I do not have a husband. I am training the boy to help me tomorrow. He said it wasn't his concern.
"Initially, they were after the government to pay the N500 million (ransom). But they later started calling and persuading to talk to the government to pay the money. I told them that I don't have access to the government. After they called for two weeks with no results, they asked me, how much have you people raised, and I asked 'which people'. They said you parents, and I told them that the parents do not have money, we are poor people, we don't have any money to contribute. They now said, so if the government does not pay, you will allow your children to die?"
Gumi on Tuesday urged the government not to take the threat by the kidnappers of students of Greenfield University, Kaduna, lightly.

Gumi noted this in an interview with Punch, saying the Central Bank of Nigeria should pay the N100 million ransom demanded by the kidnappers of the students.

He made the call as a parent of one of the abductees lamented that the kidnappers were insisting on a ransom of N100 million.

No fewer than 22 students and a member of staff of the university were abducted in the school on April 20, 2021. Five of the students were later killed by the bandits.

It was reported on Monday, that one of the bandits, Sani Jalingo, in an interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America, demanded N100 million and 10 motorcycles for the students to be freed.
He threatened that failure of the Kaduna State Government or families of the students to meet the demands by Tuesday (yesterday), would lead to the death of the abductees.

However, a parent pleaded with the Federal Government and corporate organisations to do everything possible to rescue the students.

He said, “The bandits still stand their ground of demanding N100million and ten motorcycles; no individual negotiation.

“We are calling on the government to do whatever it can to see to the release of our children. Our children have stayed long in the forest.

“We don’t know the state of their health at the moment. We don’t know whether they are being fed or how they are treated by the bandits.

“All that we can say now is for the government of the day, especially, the Federal Government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to our aid. We can’t afford the N100 million and the motorcycles demanded by the bandits.
“We are also calling on corporate organisations to come under their corporate social responsibilities to assist us to get our children out of the bandits’ den.”

PoliticsACF, Ohanaeze, PDP Slam Buhari As Presidency Alleges Coup Plot by cptjacksparrow(op): 8:23am On May 05, 2021
The Peoples Democratic Party, the Arewa Consultative Forum, the Pan- Niger Delta Forum and the Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, on Tuesday took a swipe at the Presidency over an allegation that some leaders were plotting to overthrow the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

The groups, in separate interviews with The PUNCH, cautioned the Presidency against misinterpreting well-intended criticism amid worsening insecurity in the country.

The Presidency earlier on Tuesday claimed it had evidence to show that some elements were recruiting ethnic groups and politicians with the motive of convening conferences where a vote of no confidence would be passed in the President.

It said the purpose of the move was to further throw the country into turmoil.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, disclosed this in a statement titled ‘Our response to DSS alert, by Presidency.’

Adesina was giving further insights into a recent claim by the Department of State Services that some people were planning to undermine the government and the nation’s sovereignty.

The presidential spokesman, however, said the present regime would keep the country together, even if some unruly feathers would be ruffled in the process.

He claimed that some disgruntled religious and past political leaders were behind the plans.

The statement read, “The Department of State Services on Sunday alerted on sinister moves by misguided elements to wreak havoc on the government, sovereignty and corporate existence of the country.

“Championed by some disgruntled religious and past political leaders, the intention is to eventually throw the country into a tailspin, which would compel a forceful and undemocratic change of leadership.

“Further unimpeachable evidence shows that these disruptive elements are now recruiting the leadership of some ethnic groups and politicians round the country, with the intention of convening some sort of conference, where a vote of no confidence would be passed in the President, thus throwing the land into further turmoil.

“The caterwauling, in recent times, by these elements, is to prepare the grounds adequately for their ignoble intentions, which are designed to cause further grief for the country.

“The agent provocateurs hope to achieve through artifice and sleight of hands, what they failed to do through the ballot box in the 2019 elections.”

Reacting to the allegation, the pan-Northern sociopolitical organisation, the ACF, lashed out on the Presidency for calling all perceived critics of the regime of the President disgruntled elements.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Emmanuel Yawe, noted that the Presidency’s penchant for always viewing critics of Buhari with “dark motives” was wrong.

“The criticism is done in good faith and if acted upon will help improve the situation in the country. It is wrong to see all critics as disgruntled, religious and past political leaders with dark motives. Some of them mean well for the government and the country.”

Presidency is chasing shadows – PANDEF

On its part, the Pan Niger Delta Forum said the Presidency was chasing shadows rather than looking for ways to tackle the myriad of problems facing the country.

The National Publicity Secretary of PANDEF, Ken Robinson, who stated this, said, “It is rather shocking that the Presidency would under the prevailing situation of disastrous insecurity tag religious leaders and past political leaders as ‘disgruntled.’ That is the least expected.

“PANDEF cautions that the Presidency should stop chasing shadows. Citizens are anxious and troubled, many are becoming hopeless, with even the security agencies seemingly helpless and vulnerable.”

You’re overheating the polity, PDP, Yakasai tell Buhari

Also, the PDP and the convener of the Northern Elders Council, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, accused the President of overheating the polity.

In a statement titled, ‘You’re Haunted By Your Own Shadows, PDP tells Buhari Presidency, APC…Asks Buhari to look inwards,” signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP described the allegation as a desperate attempt by the Buhari regime to blackmail Nigerians in the face of its failures.

The PDP said, “Rather than live up to the responsibilities of office by taking charge and securing our nation, the Presidency is busy engaging in frivolous allegations against Nigerians.

“It is however imperative to state that the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress are being haunted by their own shadows as Nigerians know the persons as well as the political party with the history and penchant to scuttle democratically elected governments.

“Perhaps, the Presidency has forgotten that in 1983, Brigadier Muhammadu Buhari, as he was then known, led a military coup to truncate a democratically elected government thereby causing our nation a huge drawback on democratic governance.

“Also, in 2015, the APC, which was hurriedly formulated, made itself available as a vehicle of brigandage to disrupt our political process by beguiling Nigerians and taking power through violence, propaganda and falsehood.

Speaking in a similar vein, Yakasai said, “It is not enough to embark on scaremongering by issuing statements on such a serious issue. We have yet to recover from the violent overthrow of the Tafawa Balewa -led first Republic by young military officers. I do not support any change of government other than that which comes through the ballot box.”

The spokesman of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, in an interview with The PUNCH, distanced the group from the plot.

He, however, noted that the President himself knew that all was not well in the country.

“Ohanaeze is not interested in anything coup. Ohanaeze is interested that the President should listen to us and address the nation. President should reorder his steps. He should root his governance in justice because everything has become injustice especially to the Igbo.”

Presidency’s statement, an expression of guilt, says Middle Belt

On its part, the Middle Belt Forum reminded the President that Nigeria was operating a democratic government.

He stated, “We view the statement as an expression of guilt by the Presidency for the deteriorating situation of things in the country including insecurity and its inability to stop it.”

The leader of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, in an interview with The PUNCH, said his group and others in the south were only after the peaceful restructuring of Nigeria.

He asked, “Who is interested in passing a vote of no confidence in Buhari? Who has confidence in Buhari before let alone pass any vote of no confidence in him.”

PoliticsNigeria Becoming A Huge Field Of IDP Camp's, Interfaith Media Center Warns. by cptjacksparrow(op): 7:02pm On Apr 30, 2021
The group expressed concern over the increasing number of widows and orphans in the country as a result security challenges.

A Nigerian organisation working to promote trust and tolerance between Christian and Muslim communities, Interfaith Media Centre, has expressed fear that the country will turn into lnternally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps if nothing is done urgently to address the worsening insecurity.

The group expressed concern over the increasing number of widows and orphans in the country as a result security challenges.

File photo used to illustrate story.

These observations were contained in a communique issued at the end of its monthly forum with media on peace journalism in Kaduna state on Thursday.
The communique was signed by its co-Executive Directors, Pastor Dr. James Movel Wuye and Imam Dr. Muhammad Nurayn Ashafa, who also expressed dismay over the worsening rate of kidnapping and killing in the country.

"The Forum observed that if nothing is done about insecurity, Nigeria will be turned into IDPs' camps, considering the high increase in number of widows and orphans.

"They further appealed to governments across the country to help address students and pupils to be given psycho-social counselling, so as to help address the challenges of the experience faced during their various predicaments.

"They plead with the government at both state and national levels on the need to provide them with better military and modern equipment so as to drastically continue to fight against the insurgency and banditry in the country.

"They describe the information received on the increased in tuition fees in some of the higher institutions, particularly in Kaduna State as a threat to western education and urged the state government to have a re-think considering the fact that failure to do that, the state will have a setback on our educational enrollment.

"They noted that women play vital role in promoting peaceful coexistence and unity at the family and community levels.

"The event, which usually organised by IMC on the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP) was attended by coordinators from Kogi, Plateau, Kano, Katsina, Benue under the CIPP programme in attendance," it stated.
The Forum was also attended by the District Head of Kufana (Hakimi), Titus Daudu.

Earlier, participants called for more action from the government, especially through massive recruitment into recognised civilian joint task forces like hunters "who will assist the security in the fight against insecurity in the country".

The Forum urged some state governors and other public figures to stop utterances that can easily provoke the kidnappers to maltreat or even kill their victims.

"They lamented the proliferation of small and light arms in the hands of civilians as well as decried farmers/pastoralists' clashes, especially in Benue state and other part of the country," it said.
Regarding the controversial past pro-Islamic extremism views of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, the Forum urged Nigerians not to use it to escalate tension in the country, but to allow due process on the matter.

According to the Forum, unemployment in the country has led to many being recruited into criminal gangs, most especially among the youths who play active roles in perpetrating heinous crimes.

PoliticsTinubu On Insecurity During Jonathan & Buhari Govt Suggest Desperation For Power by cptjacksparrow(op): 6:45pm On Apr 30, 2021
There are rumours in many quarters that Tinubu is nursing an ambition for the 2023 presidential election.
Former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu's speech in a space of seven years has suggested his desperation for power.

There are rumours in many quarters that Tinubu is nursing an ambition for the 2023 presidential election.

Checks by SaharaReporters have revealed Tinubu's bias towards the President Muhammadu Buhari-eld government in comparison to the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
In November 2014, Tinubu said President Jonathan’s administration lacked the wherewithal to tackle the country’s security challenges.

The former Lagos State governor consequently asked Jonathan to resign as Nigerian president.

He said, “I saw the sea of refugees caused by the Boko Haram insurgents and the lies coming from Jonathan’s administration. They have exhibited failure, lack of capacity, vision and creativity. The lies of yesterday are what they repeat today and are what they will repeat tomorrow. They are lying to you.

“They are lying about the security, toying about the security of this country. I don’t have time to explain the logic of their lies.
“But if you control the armed forces and you are the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic, why should any part of this country be under occupation? And you give us excuses every day. In any civilised country, Jonathan should have resigned. But if he will not resign, he should wait for our broom, we will sweep him away. I will come back.

“This is just the endorsement of Governor Ahmed, that he will be re-elected by the grace of God with the support of you people here and those outside there. The unemployment situation will be conquered by this administration of APC (All Progressives Congress). We have the vision for the security of the lives of our children.

“The thieves that daily steal your money have not given you any job, they cannot create jobs and they are starving states of funds to pay workers salaries. The best thing to do is to sweep them away through the broom revolution. APC is a party of the masses.

“It now behoves on you to begin a house to house campaign that this is a party of the masses.”

But speaking in 2021, during the 12th Colloquium themed “Our Common Bond, Our Common Wealth” held in Kano, Tinubu, urged President Buhari to recruit more youths into the Nigerian Army.
This is a sharp contrast to the condemnation of the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.

He authorised the immediate recruitment of up to 50 million young Nigerians into the Nigerian Army to tackle the Boko Haram and criminal bandits ravaging the country.

He later said he meant to say 50,000 and not 50 million.
He argued that such an action would overwhelm the ragtag groups of insurgents and bandits terrorising the country across multiple flanks.
“We are under-policed and we are competing with armed robbers and bandits to recruit from the youths who are unemployed —33 per cent unemployed?” Tinubu said at his 69th birthday celebration which was held in Kano.

In his address, Tinubu suggested that education and literacy were not important to the recruitment process, rather it should be based on the willingness to fight criminals.

He said: “Don’t talk about illiteracy, anybody who can hold a gun, who can handle a gun, who can cock and shoot is technically competent to repair a tractor in the farm.”

He claimed the commission and Magu mismanaged the assets by sharing some of them to cronies.
Meanwhile, out of all the subpoenaed witnesses, only Falana, appeared before the court on Thursday.
The senior lawyer entered the courtroom around 11:30 am while Maina’s second defence witness, DW-2, Mr Emoakemeh Charles, was giving his Evidence-In-Chief.
Midway into the testimony of the witness, trial Justice Abang told the parties that he was minded to adjourn the case to another day to enable him to attend to other matters.

At that juncture, a lawyer in Falana’s chambers, Marshal Abubakar, drew the attention of the counsel that represented Maina on Thursday, Adaji Abel, to the presence of his principal (Falana) in court.
When the court was notified, Falana, though not robed in his wig and gown, took the floor and addressed the court.
He said, “My lord, I learnt that I have been summoned. Even though I have not been served anything, but I am here today out of respect for the court.

"I will go and collect the summons from the bailiff myself.”

While commending him for showing such respect to the court, Justice Abang explained that all the summons were issued at the behest of Defendant.
“Unlike what was reported in some sections of the media, it was not this court that issued the summons on its own. It was the Defendant that applied for them, and this court, going by decision of the Court of Appeal, had no choice but to sign them.”

Responding, Falana said he had no problem testifying in the matter.
“I quite understood my lord. It will be my pleasure to testify in this matter,” he added.

Among those that accompanied Falana to the court on Thursday included pro-democracy activist and convener of the #RevolutionNowProtest, Omoyele Sowore.

PoliticsSeek Protection From Court, Ozekhome Tells Sunday Igboho by cptjacksparrow(op): 1:19pm On Feb 28, 2021

A human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, has advised a self-styled Yoruba warlord, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to seek court protection from being arrested and detained by security operatives.

Mr Ozekhome gave the advice in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES Sunday to condemn the attempted arrest of Mr Igboho.

This newspaper reported how security operatives attached to Operation Burst, a joint police-military outfit, in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, attempted to arrest Mr Igboho.

He was accosted on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway while on his way to meet an elder statesman, Ayo Adebanjo.
While the state police spokesperson, Olugbenga Fadeyi, refused to speak on what played out in Ibadan on Friday, the spokesperson of the State Security Service (SSS) Peter Afunanya, said its officers were not part of the operation.
Mr Igboho, who confirmed the incident, said authorities should go after Boko Haram leader, Ibrahim Shekau, and Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, who has been holding meetings with bandits before coming for him.

In his statement, Mr Ozekhome said the attempt to arrest the acclaimed warrior is an act of terrorism, advising that authorities ought to have sent him an invitation if they felt he had committed an offence.

“If the security agents felt there were any internal security issues or breach of the law, they should have invited him to the DSS or police office,” he said.

“It became, therefore, totally absurd that a whole security armada like soldiers, the police and the DSS will waylay an innocent Nigerian citizen in a commando-like manner and attempt to abduct him. At least, Nigerians have not been told he has committed an offence, or what offence, if any.

“What if Sunday Igboho and his handlers had felt they were being kidnapped and responded with a shootout? There would have been unnecessary mayhem and loss of lives because of the indecent and incongruous manner and way the attempted arrest was carried out.

“What the government does not still seem to understand is that because it has failed to give security and welfare to the Nigerian people as provided for in Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution, ethnic nationalism is fast rising in a way that ethnic groups and the various nationalities in the Nigerian contraption have begun to feel that they need to go the extra mile to protect themselves from ravaging insecurity.

“Someone needs to drum it to the ears of this government that the young man with a tattooed face that proudly displays his tribal marks is no longer an ordinary “small boy” representing himself alone. He has become a metaphor for the Yoruba struggle for self-determination.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, however, asked Mr Igboho to approach a court of law under the Fundamental Rights Enforcement (Procedure) Rules and seek protection from being killed or arrested.
“Sunday Igboho can approach a court of law under the Fundamental Rights Enforcement (Procedure) Rules and seek protection from being killed, arrested, being waylaid, being detained and having his humanity degraded.

“He can go to court to seek his fundamental rights that he is entitled to freedom of movement, freedom of association and the right to move about and across Nigeria to any part that he wishes, without let or hindrance. See sections 32, 33, 35, 40 and 41 of the 1999 Constitution.

“A court of law will readily grant him that protection because it has not been shown that he has committed any offence; and none is alleged against him. If any has been alleged against him, then they could invite him over to make a statement. We are operating a constitutional democracy where things are done by the rule of law; not rule of the thumb,” he said.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how Mr Igboho issued an eviction notice to Fulani herders in South-west Nigeria, over reported cases of kidnappings and killings.

He alleged that the herdsmen are perpetrators of all forms of criminality. His action is against Nigeria law which frowns at the eviction of citizens from any place of their choice.

Bandits have resumed operations in Kagara, Niger State on the same day that 42 students and other persons they kidnapped from a school in the town regained fredom.

No fewer than four persons were on Saturday reportedly killed and scores kidnapped in fresh attacks on the town and adjoining villages in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

According to Musa Kwabe, a community leader in Kagara, eight persons were kidnapped in Kundu and 11 others in nearby Gunna district.

He said the four people killed were from Karako, a neighbouring village where seven persons are still missing.

He also told PREMIUM TIMES the bandits rustled many cows in the affected villages.
Muhammed Hussein, a chief in Kagara and a former local council chairman, named one of those kidnapped as Ibrahim Ruvo, who is a chief imam at Madaka village.

“One chief Imam, Ibrahim Ruvo, was kidnapped around Madaka axis. He is yet to be found.”
Mr Hussein begged the state government to deploy more security operatives to the affected communities to prevent further attacks.

The spokesperson of the police in Niger, Abiodun Wasiu, told PREMIUM TIMES that he would confirm the incident and send a feedback when contacted on Saturday afternoon.

This newspaper had reported how Kagara and its adjoining villages have been under the siege of bandits for more than two years.

However, it was the kidnapping of the schoolboys that brought the ordeals and sorrow of the community to national attention.

In that incident at the public secondary school on the outskirts of Kagara town, bandits abducted 42 persons, including 27 students, three staff and 12 members of their families.

The bandits raided two of the five hostels in the school, Barde and Lafene halls, to ferret out the students, in the process killing one of them, Benjamin Habilah.
This newspaper learnt that the schoolboys were released on Saturday morning after more than nine days in captivity.

As of the time of filing this report, the state government is yet to brief the public on how it secured the release of the students and whether or not payment of ransom was involved.
PoliticsEx-chief Judge, Who Issued Court Order Proscribing IPOB, Is Dead by cptjacksparrow(op): 6:08pm On Feb 26, 2021
The immediate-past Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Adamu Abdu-Kafarati, is dead.

Mr Abdu-Kafarati, who retired about 19 months ago, died at 66 on Thursday.
A major highlight of his judicial career was the court order he issued in September 2017 to proscribe the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports on Friday that Mr Abdu-Kafarati, who hailed from Gombe State, died Thursday night, after observing his evening prayer.

NAN quoted a family source announcing the passing of the former judge in a statement.
The statement read, “Innalillahi Wa inna ilaihi Rajiun.

“It is with deep sorry that I announced the passing away of our elder statesman, Hon Justice Abdul Kafarati the immediate-past Chief Justice of High Court of the Federation and former Bauchi State Attorney General which occurred this night (Thursday) after magrib salat at Abuja.”
Mr Abdu-Kafarati was inaugurated as the Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on September 16, 2017.

He was sworn in as the substantive Chief Judge of the court on June 18, 2018. He retired 13 months later on clocking the mandatory retirement age of 65 on July 25, 2019.

Barely four days after his appointment as the acting Chief Judge, Mr Abdu-Kafarati on September 20, 2017, issued the order proscribing IPOB and its activities.
The order, which validated President Muhammadu Buhari’s earlier executive order, designated IPOB as a terrorist group and its activities “an act of terrorism”.

Mr Abdu-Kafarati gave the order following an ex parte application filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
The proceedings took place inside chambers and not in open court.
IPOB later filed an application challenging the proscription order.

Mr Abdu-Kafarati, in a ruling delivered on January 18, 2018, dismissed the application and affirmed its order proscribing and designating it a terrorist organisation.

He ruled that the issuance of the proscription order by him in chambers on September 20, 2017 was in accordance with the provision of the Terrorism Prevention Act.

Mr Abdu-Kafarati, ruled that the ex parte did not violate the group’s right to fair hearing, rights to freedom of assembly, freedom of assembly and expression.

He also awarded the sum of N500,000 as cost against IPOB.
IPOB has since been on appeal to have the proscription order reversed.
Despite the proscription order, IPOB has continued to carry on with its activities in the South-east region, insisting on its demand for a Republic of Biafra.

Its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who fled the country after a violent military attack on his home under an operation code named ‘Operation Python Dance II’ in September 2017, has continued to reach out to members of the organisation through various social media channels.

PoliticsLekki Tollgate Protests: LCC Calls For Peace by cptjacksparrow(op): 8:54pm On Feb 12, 2021
Premium Times
By Ifeoluwa Adediran February 12, 2021

The Lekki Concession Company (LCC), the company in charge of the Lekki toll plaza, has appealed to Nigerian youth to refrain from the planned lekki toll gate protest and the #DefendLagos counter-protest slated to hold at the Lekki Tollgate.

In a statement released by the company on Friday, Yomi Omomuwasan, the managing director of LCC urged “leaders of movements planning a protest at its destroyed Admiralty Circle Toll Plaza to give peace a chance.”

He added that LCC not returning to full operations within the shortest possible time would result in loss of jobs for the LCC’s over 500 direct staff and thousands of others across its business value chain.
PREMIUM TIMES reported how youth, using the #occupyLekkitollgate, plan to hold a protest at Lekki Tollgate on Saturday, to express their displeasure over the reopening of the toll plaza.

In response to the call for protest, a counter-protest tagged #DefendLagos surfaced on social media to counter the former.
Several parties, including the Lagos State government and the Nigeria Police have appealed to protesters not to go ahead with the protests.

Speaking on the planned protests, Mr Omomuwasan said LCC was distressed by the reactions as there is need to halt further losses being incurred by the company as an aftermath of the October 20, 2020 incident.

“Last weekend’s decision by the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry to return the Tollgate to the LCC had generated strong reactions from youth movements with a group threatening to occupy it and another pledging to defend it.

“We are distressed by the reactions the decision of the Panel has elicited from some members of the public and their resolve to again forcefully take over the already destroyed Plaza on Saturday 13, January 2021.

“It was in a bid to halt further losses, especially given our subsisting financial commitments to local and foreign lenders, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), that we approached the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry for permission to repossess our facilities, ” Mr Omomuwasan said.
He added that the company approached the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry to return the Tollgate to it in good faith and stem its losses.
Mr Omomuwasa said the company refrained from making comments since the Lekki shooting incident of October 20, 2020, because of the heightened temper.

The director, who referred to the shooting incident as an “unfortunate event,” said the LCC was “also a victim of the unfortunate circumstance.”

The Lekki Tollgate not has been operational since the night of October 20, 2020, following the shooting of unarmed protesters by officers of the Nigerian Army.

The Judicial Panel of Inquiry, last Saturday, however, returned the control of the toll plaza to the LCC despite that the reports of forensic examination of the event scene are yet to be out.

The ruling to reopen the Lekki toll plaza, which was dissented to by some members of the panel, has generated controversies among Nigerian youth, with protest and counter-protest slated to hold at the Lekki toll gate on Saturday.

Mr Omomuwasan, who described the LCC as a ”peace-loving organisation” empathised with individuals and businesses that suffered losses, adding that the LCC is “an institutional victim” in the October 20, 2020 event.

“To set the records straight, LCC never prevented the protesting Nigerian youths from occupying our plaza before the unfortunate incident of Tuesday, October 20, 2020, even as we incurred huge losses from the forced closure of the facility by the protesters who chose to make our facility their protest ground.

“LCC had nothing to do with the protest against police brutality, which was the central point of the youth agitation. As an organisation, we were unlucky to have been caught in the web,” he said.
Mr Omomuwasan appealed to well-meaning Nigerians from across the divide to sheath their swords and give peace a chance.

“We appeal to the leaders of the protest movement to cooperate with us as we gradually restore and commence operations. To every sored heart and scared body, we at LCC ask for divine comfort and speedy healing. As we grieve together, let us find warmth in the embrace of one another with a common resolve to rebuild a better Lagos upon the ashes of our yesterday,” he said
Despite pleas from the Lagos State government, the Lagos police and other quarters, some youth have insisted on going ahead with the planned protests on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a police truck, police vehicles and several police officers have been positioned at the Lekki toll gate as of Friday morning.
PoliticsThere'll Be Suya Feast When Next Herdsmen's Cows Invade My Home, Soyinka Warns by cptjacksparrow(op): 7:58pm On Feb 12, 2021
Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has criticised the Ogun State Police Command for denying that cows invaded his building in Abeokuta, Ogun State, warning that there would be a Suya feast If such happened again.
Soyinka on Thursday stated that he would invite the police to join the feast as there "will be no lack for cadaver affirmation."

In a reaction titled, "Mad cows and madder narratives," the Nobel laureate from Kemta Housing Estate, Abeokuta, noted that it was unprofessional for the police to deny an incident that had photographs and other obvious proofs.

He said, "For those who truly seek details of the Ijegba incident, I hereby affirm that I was never physically attacked, neither did I attack any cows. The cows and herders did however attack my property – and not for the first time.

"The police need to be very, very careful, learn to be straightforward with public information. Failure to adhere to that obvious, basic form of conduct means that the public will lose total confidence in security agencies and constantly bypass them in times of civic unrest, no matter how trivial or deadly. How on earth could the police claim that my property was not invaded by cattle? It was.

"My groundsmen knew the drill and commenced the process of expelling them. Fortunately, I was then driving out and was able to lend a hand by vehicle manoeuvering. Both cattle and herdsmen were flushed out of my property.

"Once they were outside the gates, I came down from the vehicle and beckoned the herdsmen to come over. At first, they pretended not to understand, then, as I approached, they fled into the bush. We thereupon 'arrested' the cows, confining them to the roadside, while I sent my groundsman, Taiye, to the police to come and take over.

"Since they took rather long in responding, I summoned a replacement and proceeded to the police station. On the way, we met a detachment, turned round, and together we returned to the scene of the crime."
Soyinka noted that the police wanted to commence combing the bush for the herders but he stopped them, asking them to keep the cows and the owners would show up, which was what happened.
"I thoroughly resent the police version which suggests that the cows never invaded my home: home is not just a building, it includes its grounds. And it was not a stray cow, or two or three. It was a herd – we have photos, so why the lie? It is so unnecessary, unprofessional and suspiciously compromised.
"The police suggest that I have nothing better to do than to go accosting cows on the public road – to what end?
"If the police demand proof, the next time such an invasion takes place, I warn that there will be no lack for cadaver affirmation and the police will be officially invited to join in the ensuing Suya feast. So please, let us get serious."

He added that the menace of "cattle imperialism under any guise is an obscenity to humanity."
"So, let me serve notice that we are about to commence a process of public sensitisation; we hope even the police will join hands with the agenda as it progresses.
"A special practical plea: now that the railways are being resurrected, let us make cattle wagons a priority. I grew up with the regular sight of those practical conveyances. It is time to bring them back," he concluded.
Cows had been reported to have invaded the residence of the Nobel laureate on Wednesday - an incident which drew condemnation from various groups and quarters, although the police in Ogun denied the incident, saying it was a case of straying cows.
