Sports / Transfer: Barcelona Finally Agree Fee With Ajax For De Ligt by Crackthebrain: 11:21am On Jun 11, 2019
Barcelona have agreed on a fee
with Ajax to sign their captain,
Matthijs de Ligt, in this summer’s
transfer window.
This claim was made by respected
ex-Spanish footballer and Sport
analyst, Oriol Domenech.
Domenech said this on Monday
night while appearing on Spanish
TV show, Club de la Mitjanit.

“The number is already agreed
upon and that is what Barca will
pay if De Ligt decides to come,”
Domenech said.
“The agreement between the two
clubs is total.
“The fee Barcelona are set to hand
over for De Ligt if he chooses to
sign for them is about £67m
(€75m).”
Domenech added: “If he comes to
Barca, I doubt that they will
announce it in June.
“They will announce it in July.”
De Ligt is the most wanted player
in Europe after an outstanding
season with Ajax.
The 19-year-old had been linked
with a move to Liverpool,
Manchester United, Juventus and
Barcelona in recent weeks.

Crackthebrain:
The Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board announced the results for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in the early hours of Saturday.
From the breakdown and analysis given by Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the board, it became pretty clear that, just like last year, another precocious student, emerged as the overall best student.
Ekele Franklin, 15, is this year's superstar!
To score the highest mark in UTME, at whatever age, is no mean feat. To do it at the age of 15, when most of your contemporaries are still tied to their mother's apron strings, is breathtakingly incredible. And when you consider the number of candidates that sat for the Examination(over 1.7million!) Franklin and his kith and kin have every reason to be on cloud nine. The teenager from Imo state is now the envy of his age-mates.

However, Franklin's joy may be short-lived, the impressive result may not secure him the desired admission for this reason.
Is it fair ?, however, that such a brilliant mind be held back by age?
An Unwritten But Attractive Law ! There is an unwritten law, effective though, that puts a limit on the age by which a student can start his/her academic odyssey in any public University in Nigeria.
According to the unwritten law, the 'standard' and official age for admission into public University is Sixteen(16). The admission seeker is expected to be sixteen by the 1st of October in the year of admission. If not all is the hope of securing admission will be a mirage.

For the reason, Franklin whose official age is 15 might not be offered admission for his dream course at the University of Lagos, come to the beginning of a new session except he is 16 by then.
Are There Precedents?
Yes. Thousands of brilliant admission seekers had been denied admission solely because of this unwritten but active law.
Though most of the people that had been at the receiving end of this law are faceless, a case will suffice; That of Faith Oluwatomi Oyende. Faith Oluwatomi Oyende, at the age of 21(now a graduate of biochemistry), graduated with a 4.68 cumulative grade point average, CGPA, to emerge the best graduating student from the Faculty of Science at the 21st convocation ceremony of Lagos State University (LASU). While answering questions from the Vanguard Newspaper last year on how she achieved the feat, Faith said: "It is a long story. I actually wanted to become a medical doctor. But I was denied admission at both University of Lagos, UNILAG, and LASU because i was not yet 16years old.
Having finished secondary school at age 15, I wrote and passed the Joint Admission Matriculation Board Examination. But during the post-JAMB test, I was told I must have completed 16 years on or before October 1, 2011.
Unfortunately, I was to be 16 on January 1, 2012."
The same fate befell the brilliant Orishenye Okorogheye who, after having A1 in the students he sat for in May/June 2018 WASSCE, emerged as the best UTME candidate in 2018 at the age of 15 as well. He was stopped in his tracks while trying to apply to UNILAG for Post-UTME despite scoring 332.
Justification Of The Law :
There are many justifications for this Law both from academics and counsellors. The summary of which is that most of the under-16 brilliant students are not 'emotionally mature' to withstand the multi-tasking that tertiary education demands. Another reason is that they are still impressionable and may fall easy prey to the antics of the adults in the ivory tower.
Though the age-limit 'policy' has no legal backing it has become the gold standard for securing admission. Do you think the 'law' is retrogressive and be done away with?
Also,what can he do now ? ?

Politics / Buhari VS Atiku International Forcasters Views. by Crackthebrain: 5:51pm On Feb 20, 2019
Few days to the rescheduled
presidential election coming up
on Saturday, February 23, there
are still heated arguments,
debates, prophecies and
forecasts/predictions on who
will emerge as Nigeria’s next
president.

The two leading candidates are
President Muhammadu Buhari of
the ruling All Progressives Congress
(APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the
opposition Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP).
A collection of eight predictions by
international analysts, published
by Bloomberg, shows that the
2019 presidential election will be
keenly contested by the two
leading candidates as the election
has “split analysts down the
middle”.

Out of the eight forecasts by eight
analysts, four predicted President
Buhari will win a second term
while the remaining four also
predicted a victory for Atiku

Four predictions in favour of
President Buhari.

1. Control Risks
Bloomberg reports that Control
Risks, a London-based company,
predicted that President Buhari
will win by a small margin due to
the divisions within the PDP,
Atiku’s party, and its lacklustre
campaigning.

2. Eurasia Group
According to Eurasia Group’s
forecast, President Buhari has a
60% chance of winning. The New
York risk firm said it predicted
victory for Buhari because his
cause has been helped by some
key PDP politicians, including
Senate president Bukola Saraki and
governors in the southeast, who
didn’t allegedly give active support
to Atiku’s campaign.

3. NKC African Economics
Jared Jeffery, an analyst at NKC
African Economics, a research
house based in Paarl, South Africa,
said though President Buhari’s
approval ratings have plunged
since he became president four
years ago, incumbent presidents in
Africa win around 85% of the
elections they contest.
He added that Buhari is from the
northwest, which is the region
with the most voters, and he’s
maintained an “image of
incorruptibility.”

4. Capital Economics
John Ashbourne, an economist at
the London-based research group,
said: “The advantages of
incumbency will help President
Buhari clinch a narrow win”.

Four predictions in favour of
Atiku Abubakar.

1. Fitch Solutions
Fitch Solutions predicted that Atiku
has the edge given how Buhari
“struggled to fulfill key election
pledges’’ made when he came to
office in 2015. The London-based
research house also said Atiku may
be able to take a large chunk of
votes in the north, a region Buhari
dominated last time when he was
facing former President Goodluck
Jonathan.

2. Songhai Advisory
Songhai Advisory in its forecast
said Atiku will benefit from the
support of key powerbrokers,
including ex-army chiefs and
former heads of state such as
Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun
Obasanjo. It specifically highlighted
Obasanjo’s endorsement of Atiku,
saying the latter “continues to
sway election outcomes’’ and since
he left office in 2007.

3. Teneo Intelligence
Teneo Intelligence predicted that
Atiku will get up to 57% of the
votes, against 42% for Buhari if the
election is free and fair.

4. Verisk Maplecroft
Ed Hobey-Hamsher, an Africa
analyst at the Bath, UK-based firm
predicted that Buhari has just 41%
chance of victory. It said that
President Buhari’s chances have
been damaged, in part, by recent
military setbacks against Boko
Haram and other militants
affiliated to Islamic State in the
northeast.

Culture / See The Strange Way Teens In Okene Celebrate Birthdays (PHOTOS) by Crackthebrain: 10:34am On Jan 02, 2019
Usually in most part of the country, birthdays are celebrated by organising feast
consisting of part or an entire roasted cow
or goat shared in served
jollof rice made with
rice, tomatoes, red peppers, and
onions.Cake is also baked with the celebrant name and new age usually printed in it.
At their birthday parties, children
play a game known as Pass the
Parcel. Guests pass around the
package to music and when the
music stops the person holding the
package unwraps the parcel then
passes it on until the last bit of
paper is taken off the prize.
However, here in Okene, friends tends to bath the celebrant and do all sort of things around him/her.
See photos of the celebrant and his friends below ;
