nina161:
Nsibidi originated from the Ekoi/Ejagham people of Cross River state in Nigeria. It spread to parts of Igbo land from this area. Igbos should stop misintepreting history to assert themselves as a progressive tribe.
Sadly, the Ekois are a minority tribe in danger of extinction. Most of them don't even know their Bantu origin or speak their language. As a result, the Igbos are yet to be corrected on this issue.
Which was said on the first page:

Nsibidi's origin is generally attributed to the Ekoi people of southern Nigeria.

So please exit right and don't let the door hit you on your as.s

How can you dislike someone over somethings so frivolous and not even in their control, but change gears when they did you a favor. God bless who ever puts a ring on your scaly finger. You are a snake in the grass and a fair weather individual only sticking around when you profit or benefit. You are type of woman who will Mary an old ugly man for money and be frowning your face because you don't like the fact you have to sleep with 100 year old d!ck to keep the money flowing. You'll probably even devise a plan to murder the man for his money if care is not taken.

Abeg make una free them na Igbo thread b dis so they think we are fools for leaving the ancient buildings abi if u go to some parts of Lagos in Epe, Ipaja you will find this ancient houses that is because the families have refused to sell d house or the lands just to maintain the heritage. Like if you go to that same ibadan you won't find good estates and buildings same as Abeokuta if their brains can tell them it's a deliberate act to leave it that way leave them let them keep ranting.
Lies, they cant sell because the money they would collect would not even be enough to afford a place better than the cr.aphole they are currently in.

If someone offered them more than 3 pennies on the dollar for these eyesores people would be selling left and right.

Maintain which heritage? by letting them fall apart? None of those houses have seen paint or a new roof since the first republic lol. No wonder all the businesses went under after Awo's Indigenization policy you people do the opposite of what is expected.

Running successful businesses means running a business poorly. Which is why GLO and Oando still trail MTN and BP in their hometurf.

Maintaining in the SW means to allow a building to fall apart as a sign or history.

I understand you people very well. It's always opposite day in the SW.

The french have cities older than yours and Paris is Paris. No city in Yoruba land is older than Rome. In fact Igbos have been in Nigeria longer than Yorubas but our cities don't look like swamps. Is it ancient history that gave those cities imported british tin roofs? Ignorance.
It's all hype. Hiroshima that had an atomic bomb dropped on it, Germany that was fire bombed and torn bit by bit, and etc.

Go look at them today, even their historic quarters that surpass anything in Nigeria in age and existence. They look nothing like this.

If those areas are so historical and important to them why don't the fix them up? Who leaves history to rot? It's because nobody has the money to fix them or gives two hoots about it! That's why!!!

Nothing is worse than a decaying eye sore of a building, which is why even in the US you will see these buildings pulled down. When they are not people take it upon themselves to set up historical committees to raise funds to rehabilitate the buildings. No such thing is happening in the SW these buildings will look the same way 50 dam.n years from now and they will be screaming sophistication and civilization.

How dare some people compare themselves to actual sane societies with these ugly glorified huts with tin roofs. if anything these buildings are health hazards that are releasing dangerous toxic metals into their inhabitants air.

Only Lagos tries small with some of the old areas, the rest. Burn those fu.ckers down for the sake of progress. Even if you attempted to save some of them the cost would not even justify such a project.

Insulting people with real history and reverence for history with these monstrosities.

Lea28: Hi,

Just wanted to comment that this thread is really interesting and informative. I am going to follow up with the docs some of you posted. As an AA, I can attest, at least in my family, that some Yorubas did end up in the state of Virginia, and that they were assigned to domestic work at the plantation manors. My father's ancestry is the Ovimbundu of Angola. His ancestors were confined as farm laborers in the state of North Carolina.

Although mt DNA is said to be a match to Nigerian Yoruba, many of my Grandmother's and my Great-grandmother's siblings resembled Igbos. Since there was probably a lot of mixing with other African ethic groups, who knows. The males on that side of the family are gone, so we may never know.

My parting comment is, the main reason why many AA don't know their ancestry, isn't because we wanted to forget, it was snatched away from defenseless children. Many slave children were orphaned when either they or their parents were sold separately. One advantage of breaking up families this way, was to permanently erase all traces of ethnic identity. Those who were resourceful learned to survive by redefining themselves apart from what the slave handlers tried to impose upon them. Although a slightly different dynamic, the same principle applies today.

Not all of us are lost, many of us are doing well for ourselves, through much perseverance and faith.

The Kingdom of Kongo (Kongo: Kongo dya Ntotila[4] or Wene wa Kongo[5] or Portuguese: Reino do Congo) was an African kingdom located in west central Africa in what is now northern Angola, Cabinda, the Republic of the Congo, and the western portion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.[6]
The dominant political force of the Congo region prior to and during the initial arrival of Europeans was the Kongo Empire. The Kongo was a highly developed state located primarily in the southwest portion of the modern Congo, and also occupying portions of northern Angola and Cabinda. At its greatest extent, the empire reached from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Kwango River in the east, and from the Point Noire in the north to the Loje River in the south.

Radoillo: Gwendolyn Hall has been quoted in this thread to show Igbos were unwanted and useless.

The same Hall wrote: "...during the Spanish period in Louisiana the mean price of Igbo men was highest among the five most frequent ethnicities."

"The Igbo became one of the five African ethnicities found most frequently in Louisiana documents after 1803. Between 1804 and 1820, Igbo began to appear in higher proportions among all Africans and became one of the five most frequent ethnicities encountered in the documents. They were more heavily MALE than during the eighteenth century."

"Igbos were among the ethnicities ACTIVELY smuggled into Louisiana long after the foreign slave trade was outlawed. They were smuggled into Cuba in LARGE numbers as well."

"Igbo women were among the two African ethnicities whose women had the highest proportion of surviving children....The other ethnicity with high reproductive results were the Wolof....Mandinga women demonstrated relatively low reproductive results...Congo women's reproductive rate was substantially lower, possibly because of a high abortion rate among them..."

Now the interesting part:

"African-Americans are likely to be descended directly from African women via the female line because they have many more white male than white female ancestors. In the United States, our African mothers were reasonably likely to be IGBO or Wolof: a thesis which can eventually be tested through DNA studies".

This is not from Douglas Chambers who y'all believe to be pro-Igbo. The quotes are from Dr Gwendolyn Hall. Kwame has been quoting her researches, but CONVENIENTLY ignored these sections.

For every year on that chart the Bight of Biafra contributed more slaves than Sengambia, West Central, South East, Upper Guinea, and the Windward Coast. The only region that surpasses it is the Bight of Benin, which again is not Sengambia nor Central Africa. Sengambia contributes a grand total of 479,900 while the Bight of Biafra contributes a grand total of 1,463,700, how in the hell is the former greater than the latter? Hell you'd have a leg to stand on if you said the Gold Cost or Bight of Benin, but Sengambia and the rest not even close undecided

Lawd have mercy....niggas on crack are arguing about having the right to be ignorant.

Damn shame.
To be honest, the fact that we are even arguing about how many slaves came from where is silly. Slavery was a sad and dehumanizing experience, I'm honored the strides that people of African descent in the Americas made not only for themselves but for the future generations that would come after them. The life I have today is thanks to them, demanding their full inalienable rights in a place where they were seen a second class humans not fit for anything but being someone's property.

However, I think its in everyone's interest to challenge ignorance and half truths and whole lies wherever they may be. I don't think that AA are majority Igbo descendants, but I do believe the Igbo people contributed their portion just like all other groups did. That's it.
