PoliticsRe: LASG Plans Total Water Supply By 2020 by Crayola1: 8:58pm On May 31, 2013
Municipal water supply should have had the highest priority if Fashola is interested in infrastructure.

At least begin the steps of laying down pipes, setting up the location where water would be sourced from, setting up a water company to monitor and maintain the system.

The SE will survive, its faced much worse and managed.

I pity the Yoruba guys though, the ones that bad mouth Igbo people online only to be on the prowl for an Igbo chick. The enbargo may be rough for Dayokanu grin

Better stock up on vaseline and pics of your favorite Igbo chicks before the day of reckoning

Bigots supporting bigots. Beautiful. grin

I laugh at his idiocy, so a man should remain content toiling in the fields instead of moving up the rank on to better things? See how happy he was to tell the white guy we rather have you over Nigerians. No wonder they handed the reins over to him, a black dummy is the best dummy.

No wonder Nigeria is screwed, instead of betteing yourself you should smile and accept the bare minimum.
TV/MoviesRe: Igbo People Are Killing Nollywood With Tribalism ––actress Halima Abubakar by Crayola1: 1:59pm On May 31, 2013
speedyboi: Okay.....I see she was referring to Alaba and poundroad films. Cos the kinda Nollywood films i watch have various actors from different tribes. Even Hausas; And there's no majority or minority.

On another note.....Looking back at the time I watch crappy Nollywood, The actors then were not solely Igbos;
Ramsey Nouah - Yoruba
Omotola - Yoruba
Desmond Elliot - Yoruba
Ini Edo - Calabar etc.....

And to those shouting Kannywood and Yorubawood. Are yoruba and Hausa films not Nollywood? People amaze me! cheesy cheesy.

She's suffering from inferiority complex just like the others arguing senseless arguments on this thread! I'm out!!!!!!!!!!!! angry
They should be considered under the Nollywood banner but some folks do the most to divide the two.
TV/MoviesRe: Igbo People Are Killing Nollywood With Tribalism ––actress Halima Abubakar by Crayola1: 8:32pm On May 30, 2013
Ruby_Pearl: Blacks in Hollywood are still racially divided.
This sentence makes no sense, but tribalists are not known for their intelligence so I digress..

What you meant to say since you are not clever enough to make the distinction is that Black actors in Hollywood still experience racism when it comes to getting roles.

Is Omotola Korean? She is a Yoruba woman who is one of the biggest names in Nollywood, how is she making it if tribalism is a factor? Magic? Positive thinking?

If tribalism was truly killing Nollywood it would have died long time ago instead we have the emergence of directors from other background creating films with different perspectives and still under the Nollywood banner, but thanks for playing.

I've never understood why some Yoruba people have such a fit over Nollywood, you have your own industry work on that and leave the folks who like and prefer Nollywood to live in piece. Not a day goes by where I don't see a thread that compares Nollywood and Yorubawood or claims that Yoruba films are superior to Nollywood films. No one cares tongue
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Crayola1: 1:54am On May 30, 2013
Why does it bother people so much what titles people want to give to others?

A South African gave him the title and the rest of the world ran with it, it wasn't Igbo people who gave it to him. Go fight with the NYT and the BBC if you are upset at the distinction.
TV/MoviesRe: Igbo People Are Killing Nollywood With Tribalism ––actress Halima Abubakar by Crayola1: 1:46am On May 30, 2013
So how is she is getting work if tribalism is a factor? These articles never make sense how do you have an Igbo agent and get roles from Igbo directors but tribalism is a factor?

How come Omotola never makes these remarks?

Most of these producers are thinking about their bottom line and not tribe. If your name sells you will get roles.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Crayola1: 1:31am On May 20, 2013
Dudu_Negro: The works of Soyinka is compared to the Greek classics. Myths and Rituals, Perversion and Force. Through his works the myths and rituals of Yoruba classical works and the role of the deities in Yoruba cosmology has gained global appreciation and understanding. Soyinka unveils what is noble and grandeur and forces the world, particularly Europe to study Yoruba Art comparatively.
By who? You lol?
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Crayola1: 12:45am On May 20, 2013
Dudu_Negro: Your opinion on this work is irrelevant. The opinion of his peers is what counts.

Beside, to understand and speak on abiku you first need to understand the cultural rites of the abiku phenomenon. Prof. Soyinka writes from spirit, not from his brain. His brain only give expression the apparitions formed in the spirit....and many critics have argued that if you read Wole Soyinka be prepared to go into the depths where mortals fear to go. Do you think he got Nobel Prize for writing about virulent social chaos? grin grin
And Soyinka protested this injustice of Achebe's by reprising a role in a film/play based on that same book by Achebe. cheesy

So you are saying Soyinka was too dumb to notice all these things you are claiming? Or maybe you are full of it?
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Crayola1: 11:40pm On May 19, 2013
Dudu_Negro: In the realm of literature there are far more skilled and accomplished writers in Africa than Prof. Achebe. It is therefor misplaced to call him the father of African Litrrature.

The novel that put Achebe in limelight is Things Fall Apart. He was the first Ibo writer to reveal the nak.edn.ess of Igbo culture and what he narrated coincided with the writings of European explorers who in their reports described the igbos as a savage people. Things Fall Apart was a treasure in white man's hand, whose goal of justifying his missionary work in Africa can now be legitimized as a saving grace to the black man. How else does any noble society justify and excuse Okonkwo's murder of Ikemefuna, an innocent young boy who looked up to him as father? Achebe, a tribal African, in his depictions of his own people, thus vindicated the white man of his atrocities against the African tribes. Everything in Things Fall Apart is vile and socially reprehensible. Okonkwo lacked respect for his socially irresponsible father who died indebted to the community, he lacked respect for his own son and wished Ikemefuna had been his blood son but yhen he bludgeoned the poor lad to death. In a male dominant society, Okonkwo preffered dominance in his daughter above his son......a very confused and troubled man, damned!

If any novel out of Africa should be promoted and widely marketed as the best, this was not it......but in the white man's judgement this was that novel. This would explain its translations into many European languages. Its a self condemnation and a beg for redemption. It falls perfectly into the agenda of those in Europe who advocate missionary work for the heathens in Africa.

So Achebe's Things Fall Apart speaks to the ego of the white racist. They promoted his work and sold him as the best African writer.....Father of African Literature. If they truly believed him to be so why have they blocked him from the apex achievement in literature, the Nobel Award?
Thank God most of us are more educated than you. I would say you should get a refund ftom the school that taught you but since it was free cheesy

eggheaders: You know the problem I see with you which is prevalent with everyone
in your tribe? EMOTIONS, You are just emotional like bitches
You wrote how many paragraph no single Data or figure. My post you
quoted was loaded with figures and verifiable facts
Thats why you would continue to be failures.
A people that act on emotions is always an accident waiting to
Happen.
A little history lessons would show us its not new, Its sewn in the DNA,
How else would someone wake up and declare war based on emotions.
Do you have any allies? NO , Do you have weapons? No 200 guns, Do
you have stockpile of food? No our opponent would feed us. Do you
have money? No we would use our opponents currency etc.
So why are you going to war? We are the bravest army in Africa and
chukwu is with us. . Series of decisions based on emotions alone.
Your brother came here to beat his Chest about how the Eastern
Nigerian budget overtakes Nigeria, We broke it down and we saw that
the SE contribution to this awesome budget is less than 25%?
Its like a Greek or Mexican coming to boast about European or North
American economy when they barely contribute anything to it.
Emotional statements Like We are 60% of the voting population of
Kano, We own 70% of Lagos, We are 60% of Jos, We own 80% of Port
Harcourt is what makes even your SS neighbours detest you.
Stand on your own dont leech on people. All these senseless SE/SS
" attache by force" just show you as desperate parasites
There is a sizable Yoruba population in North Central, You dont see
anyone shouting SW/NC bla bla,
There is a sizable population of people with Yorubalike ancestry in SS
states of Delta and Edo, You dont see anyone shouting SW-SS bla bla
bla
The more you yell the more you get exposed for what you are.
Leeches.
dayokanu really figured out the mindset of this peeps here. any
sensible person should stop doing a back and forth with this set of
programmed humanoids.

You know, the esoteric nature of Soyinka's works endears me to that Dude! His works are not for all and sundry!...
Clearly. Which is why they collect dust at the local library. You can consider that as keeping them in mint condition cheesy

You are scoring own goals here in your bid to discredit a great writer
Wole is a good writer yes

His work is not popular
The guy's books sit on the shelves in my school's library with dust on them. Achebe's books are always in rotation because one class or another has them listed as required reading.

No disrespect to Soyinka but his books are not hot anywhere in the states at least.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Crayola1: 10:36pm On May 19, 2013
ajanaku2: ...so bad you think Literature is all about Novels. If that's the case, I think J.K Rowling, John Grisham and Dan Brown should have won the coveted Nobel award...As a matter of fact, Dan Brown's "Da Vinci code" has sold more than 100 million copies, belittling Achebe's "Things fall apart"...

Guy, Literature wide no be small...Prose, Poetry, Drama, Biographies. Soyinka is a master of all...His versatility is the reason he was awarded the Nobel prize...

Go and get a copy of Soyinka's "Ake: The years of Childhood" and get a glimpse of what it his to be a Writer!
Yes, but Achebe is an African writer so the fact he sold as many as he did is proof of the novel's value to people.

Yet no one reads Soyinka's books in the US despite his jack of all trades skill. I guess we are all uncultured cheesy

No thank you, I read for pleasure and enjoyment not for grammar and diction.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Crayola1: 10:25pm On May 19, 2013
Dr. Seuss pass Soyinka self and he only used 3 letter words in his books.

ajanaku2: Ogbeni, nobody's saying Achebe's "Things fall apart" is not a good book and has not been translated into several languages....

As a matter of fact, that book is his only noteworthy book, the rest are just average...Should he be informally crowned as the "Father of modern African literature" just 'cos of one remarkable book?
If that's the case then thank God for Soyinka's nobel because no one even remembers the book that won him the damn thing.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Crayola1: 10:16pm On May 19, 2013
Ola Johnson: You never read the interview. If you had you will know that WS quoted what you now doubt.
I read the interview. Soyinka claimed he said it, when and where did Achebe say that. Or do we now take one man's word as the whole truth.

Show a newspaper clipping or someone backing up Soyinka's statement. If you guys are goung to hold Achebe to that standard, Soyinka will be held to the same one as well.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Crayola1: 10:12pm On May 19, 2013
Ola Johnson: This thread has been infested by those who know nothing but give titles to themselves. I mean those people that call themselves the Jews of Nigeria. Very soon they will make their son who led them to an ill prepared war in 1967 to 1970, 'Moses.' Moses indeed.
This is the white flag of defeat boys and girls cool

ajanaku2: Immediately after winning the Nobel prize in 1986, Soyinka had academic offers from top universities in the World; Ivy League and Oxbridge. He rebuffed their plum and lucrative offers and opted to stay with the then University of Ife, not until Abacha forced him out of the country! That's a true and through Nigerian...

Achebe relocated to the USA, claiming the bad roads in Nigeria caused his "Skoroism", as if accidents don't happen on the smooth roads of Massachusetts...Well, he was a Biafran!

If only some Niggers know what it means to be a Nobel Laureate...
He left because he was paralyzed from his injury and Nigeria is not known to be wheelchair friendly. But your "version" my mistake "lie" sounds so much better cheesy lmao lazy people can't even consult wikipedia for Godsakes.

Nigeria is not friendly to healthy human beings how nuch you want to wager that life for this disabled is no picnic. But you are among the privileged to not worry about those things so you make ignorant statements like this.

Achebe stopped writing for a while because he said he does his best writing in Nigeria and draws inspiration from the Nigerian setting. cheesy
