The airconditioned atmosphere heightened my suspense and tension, I practically boiled deep down with anger. I had been praying for a day like this to come, for me to unleash the hatred and pain in my heart. No Jupiter would stop me from doing what I had up my sleeves. Ol' boy!! Karma is a b!tch.




" Are you sure its her ? " Mimi said " Wait!" she pulled me back " What if you are wrong?




" I know its her. I am certain of it" I replied.



I tried to move, Mimi blocked my path and held me tightly , her hands cluthed onto my shoulders and she pushed me back a little. She knew what I had in mind, and tried to avoid a disaster from taking place.we had to be sure.




"Take it easy Kate " She sighed then turned round " at least, lets be sure ,before we act"



I had heard enough . I couldn't get my anger constrained anymore



" Its her, I'm very sure of the face. I can't easily forget it."

I wanted to confront them immediately .I knew the little girl was Funmi. There was no doubt to it and the thought drove nanobots of anger down my spine.






" So what are you going to do? Mimi asked
" interrogate the child ? Like " Hello , I'm Kate,I've seen you somewhere before, are you really my husband's daughter /With another lady? " She scoffed " C'mon Kate, let me do this like a prof"


Elisha drew me back to seat. Mimi went forward and convinced the ladies and child (Funmi) after a short chat, to take group pictures . I could not hear anything from their discussion due to distance between us.




Mimi came back shortly and smiled.

" that was easy" she said and showed me the pictures " Recognize anybody? "she asked.








" Oh God, No----- no. no" I said " this is not happening, I should have known. She was a fake doctor all along."






" Fake doctor? Mimi and Eli chorused.


I clutched my fist and pushed the seat backwards , I walked straight to their table and before the lady could say "jack", I already landed two heavy slaps on the her cheeks. she barely recovered from that when darkness engulfed her again - a hot slap to the left eye.






" You harlot, you have no shame. How dare you ? You are such a devil. " I barked my lungs out.

The second lady ( there were two of them) was shocked and confused , she nearly jumped out of her skin. Then she touched her friend and said







" Damilola ?.. Are you OK? "






" oh that's the name! " I hit her again " say something ,you devil. Are you dumb?






Mimi had followed me and waited for any slight opportunity to damage "somebody" . I couldn't believe that the lady standing before me ,had dressed up as a doctor the first time we met,when Gabriel was hospitalized.



" Doctor huh? you remember me , don't you?" I smiled and I pulled her shirt " everything about you is fake and cheap"



She tried to say something ,"Kate listen, we are in the public, you are humiliat-"




" Shut up!!!" I cut in " You had the guts to seduce my husband and even reproduce a child with him " I pointed at Funmi " that girl is the result of your cheap lovepeddlling huh? She is even as ugly as you are " I hissed . " And I'm warning you. stay off my man if you know what's best for you."






" Or what ? Damilola suddenly barked , her eyes became bloodshot red " Go on ! Tell all these strangers that your man couldnt resist my charm and that he left you for me. You should have chained your beast of a husband---- if you think he is such a dog-"





" You bastard "
I slapped her so hard ,that my palms became red.


She retaliated with a resounding slap . I flung the table over ,the plates and glasscups shattered to pieces. Broken bottles littered the floor. I pulled her hair and she dragged it back. It nearly went off. People tried to separate us. Fight had already ensued . I wouldn't let her break free. She threw a punch . I hit her on the temple with my elbow. She jerked and struggled.







" Kemi , do something " she cried for help.





Her friend tried to help. Mimi and Elisha pounded her with blows on the back. They pulled her to a corner and gang beat the life out of her.


Damilola grabbed a bottle on the floor. She charged towards me. I dodged. She accidentally hit her own daughter.







" Arhhhhhh!! Mummy , my head o .I'm bleeding " Funmi screamed out in pain.

I thought it to be an illusion, until I checked the camera footage again. It was really Kemi and she stood helplessly at the gate . I had given her my address but I didn't think she'd stop by so early, we just met .
I pushed a button from the control room to let her in, and went out to the living room. It didn't take long before she came through the front door.






" You look like hell " I said .I noticed her facial expressions.


She looked like whom had been tortured by Adolf Hitler himself and the Nazi's . Whatever her ordeal was, her tormentors did a good job on her. One eye was almost blackened, and bandadges adorned her wrist. I suddenly felt pity for her.





" I got into a fight " She began " A crazy lady and her friends tried to end my life today , fortunately I survived "



I was shocked and grabbed her on the shoulders.





" Come here ,Sit down .Kemi, tell me what happened. "







" It happened so fast, " She began" Damilola and I got outnumbered , three to two. Turned out, the lady and her friends had a personal beef with Lola"





" Damilola? The one you told me---"




" Yes, my friend who is a single mom " She cut in and heaved a sigh.

I gave her a cup of water and sat into the cushion, next to her. I needed to hear more.





" Andy...she was a tiger, her anger was like no other ,in the end, Dami's daughter got hospitalized"




" How? What happened? I asked.



" long story , but what I can say is that things went crazy and out of hand"


I cuddled her into my arms and gently brushed her hair ,but she jerked " ouchh , my arm, be careful"

She had twisted it and I couldn't help but laugh.




" What's so funny" she frowned and hit me on the chest.




"Nothing "

Kemi sat up and drank the water in the glass cup, her face became moody . I couldn't tell what she had in mind, all I knew was that she sought revenge of whatever that happened. How she'd go about it was unclear to me .



" I am so angry right now. I feel like assasinating that witch called Kate" she blurted out in anger.


I moved back a little and looked her in the face..




" Kate ??



" Yea,Kate . You know her?

I had no idea if it was my Kate. It could have been anyone




" Don't worry" I said and embraced her" there are thousands of Kate's out there. It could have been anyone"

" This one is really crazy " She retorted.


Then,she relaxed on my shoulders and the chemistry between us grew even more intense ,This was more than attraction, it was something greater and I could feel it deep down in my bones.


She pulled back and clutched her fist together .


" This so far from over " she said " Its very far--very far from over".

I suddenly felt afraid as shivers went down my spine. whatever this lady had in mind ,it was evil and I would be lucky if she told me about it.

I couldn't believe my ears anymore , his words hit hard onto my skull and I had to take it as a mistake. He was not serious, he definaltely was not . He tried to come closer and grasp my arm, he probably saw how terrified I was. I least expected such from him.




" Please , understand me here "He tried to touch my cheek, which I dodged. " Kate, don't get me wrong here, I was only pointing out an instance of what could happen if --"



" it was a very stupid one " I said and moved even backwards " You were joking right?. Like, what kind of a person wishes a pregnant lady, a miscarriage ? Are you for real? I just hope you didn't mean a word of it"




It ate deep into my soul , and that was the first time Andy said something really foolish . I picked it as a slip of tongue, he wouldn't even think about hurting me not more ,wishing me evil.


He closed in the gap between us , his fresh breathe and perf did magical things on me, which I couldn't explain







" I'm just a bit stressed out- believe me, I am here to protect you and not scare you " his voice became calm and he continued " Kate, I don't like seeing you suffer like this, it hurts me, and truth be told , I will stick with any decision you take"

I sat down and looked at my wrist watch, I had to leave, the discussion was getting me nauseated and Andy bluffed even more. If he loved me truly , then he'd be matured enough to know that I carried a living soul inside me , not something to make instances of death, with.

I got up and dusted my skirt's tip and behind, made for the door and he followed closely ,his arms trailed my back and he touched me on the shoulder.

I sat quietly in the restaurant's corner ,gazed at Elisha as he was telling the dark skinned girl what he would have. We had gone out that eve to spend sometime together and escape the reality of the problems that faced us. It was supposed to be fun time but I was confused and felt awkward.

I shrugged but didn't say a word. I had nothing to say, the two men whom my world revolved round were such d!ckheads and it gave me sleepless nights.




" You can go now " Elisha said to the girl who stood to wait on orders" just bring me the bottle ,the big size."



He turned and faced me, empathy showed all over his face and his arms gently brushed my shoulders.

" Nothing is down " I said and smiled , drank my juice and relaxed a bit.

I laughed my ribs out until they started to ache. The joke was unexpected.

Mimi waved her fingers " Whatever ! "

He nearly turned red with anger "Kate , did you hear what she just said?, can you--"

I laughed out so loud that I forgot that I had been sad some minutes ago. These guys were hilarious and so funny.



" Mumu " Elisha blurted out after casting a prolonged gaze at her .

"Its alright , please" I cut in " You guys should stop , we are in the public-" I barely finished the statement when I saw her.

oh my God it was her , I coudnt believe my eyes , It was the little girl I 'd had seen in a picture with Gabriel.
My resolve changed as my mood became worse again, I looked at her and the two women that sat with her,both with their backs facing us.Their table was across the restaurant hall . one of the ladies had to be her mother.





" Kay ? " Elisha said , he noticed something " you look like you 've seen a ghost."




" Eli, someone will become a ghost today, by the time I'm through with her"....I said and carefully got up from my seat.







Gabriel.




When I pushed the door open, I expected someone to pour me hot water or even a sackload of gabbage. I sighed a relief , when none of the above happened, at least not yet.The thought was loud in my head.

I had called Yvonne to pick up David from his grandparents house , I didnt want to go there , not at that moment, given the circumstances of Kate's disagreement with me. It was better to let things cool off a bit .

I wanted to see my son, but it had to be in Maxwell's house, and I hoped for the best but prepared for the worst, just in case someone loosed it and poured me a pot of stew.

The sitting room was quiet and I thought a mutiny or coup d'etat was about to occur and my head was the state of emergency for the process. I was afraid though, then suddenly




" Daddy!! " Came David's voice as he rushed in from a room adjacent the parlour.



I was so glad to see him. The joy in my heart leaped to hundred degrees , when I launched him into the air repeatedly and he laughed and smiled at every dive.
I exhaled deeply and carried him like a baby into my bossom.



" I've missed you so much, daddy " His eyes shone with joy " And so has mummy"




I stopped to assimilate his words " Really? Did she say so?




He shook his head in dissparoval, and I became disappointed, so how did he know she had missed me?






" she cries every night and calls your name " He said.



I put him down and looked him in the eye " Now David, I want you to be strong for daddy, " I stroked his hair " I want you to look after mummy , while , I'm away ,OK. Can you do that for me?



He saluted " Yes sir"



" That's my soldier . OK where is ?- " I was about to ask him of Yvonne when I saw her standing at the corridor ,arms akimbo .





"I envy you both " She touched her abdomen " I wish God had already blessed me with even one"

It had been almost five years of marriage for her ,without an issue and I felt it too, as it ached me internally.







" Don't worry " I hugged her briefly " you will soon have yours. where is Mama?




She told me that Mama was in the Kitchen and Maxwell was in his room.



I looked at David " OK , little man run along , go and play. Your aunt and I want to have a word " He was about to move " here , I bought you snacks "

I gave them to him and he was so happy . He kissed me on the cheek when I bent down a little and disappeared into the big house.




" Gabe, your son will suffer badly if you don't mend your marriage " Yvonne started when we took seats in the living room.

I scratched my head a little and looked at my wrist watch, somehow , it felt like everyone wanted me to be perfect, but overlooked the fact that I was human and also fallible.




" Yvonee " I began " It's not as easy as you think , things have gotten real messy and comp-"


I paused when Mama came out from the Kitchen through the dinning room . She held a spoon in her hands and I thought she had me in mind, maybe she wanted to konk me with it ,because our previous argument was so rough.






" Good evening Ma" I greeted in Ikwere.


She shrugged and replied, gave me a prolonged look and dashed back into the kitchen , she hadn't said much, it was very unlike her to do so.




" The situation is very complicated " I continued



" How bad ? Gabe , I hate to admit this to you but I just have to. I don't know what your plans are , the truth is that you will end up hurting a lot of people if you choose to split up with your wife. Not only your son will be hurt but me also ;Maxwell ; Mama( especially mama- ) And don't overlook Kate's parents too, they are already hurt by your actions . Don't make it worse"



I kept silent and let the words sink into me.



" But its not my fault " I barked " Why is everyone blaming me?



" Whose fault is it then? " She retorted and even louder.



I stood up, and moved round the spacious room, my fingers rubbed the furniture and it felt very expensive and smooth. I turned to Yvonne
" You are lucky, you married a wealthy and Kind man"



"What does it have to do with our discussion ?




" Nothing- but I've heard you. I will try my best. I can't promise yet, but I will try.. "..



" You better--"

" Little sis,I already told you. I will try, now let me breathe please" I barked out again.



I sat into the cushion and thought deeply about how my life had broken into tiny pieces. I had to fix it soon, time was flying and I was behind ,trying to overtake it.
