ok, thanks for the prompt reply. apart from cost, the other reason i dont wanna switch to synthetics is I HEARD THAT IF YOU HV BEEN USING NORMAL OILS FOR A WHILE, THAT ABRUPTLY SWITCHING TO SYNTHETICS WILL DAMAGE YOUR CAR ENGINE SEALS/O RINGS, thus making it leaks and burn oil, cos the orings hv somewhat adapted to the chemicals in the normal oils, and the switch to synthetics will make dem warp and twist, thereby loosing their good sealing properties. has anyone succesfully switched from normal oils to synthetics?, kindly educate the house |

pls cud some knowledgeable peeps shed more light on this issue, what grade of oil is good to use for cars in nigeria, bearing in mind our ambient tempreture. my car is auto 4wd and has abt 120k miles, my mechanic advised me to be using mobil super xhp 20w 50, but from the info am getting, it seems thats not the right oil to use. nb:i dont wanna switch to synthetics, unless the person can prove to me that switching wudnt damage my engine seals and that the high cost of synthtics is comensurate with the improved mpg and longer duration of use |

@andman, its only by trial and error that u will know the good ones, some bmw cars hv a digital fuel guage, those are the best.its easy to know when you are cheated,, when am in ph, the oando filling station by woji elelenwo link rd is my choice, their meter is always accurate.never being cheated there |

trace the air intake box in the engine bay, from it, u will see a big black hose that goes inside towards the engine block.plug area, the throttle body is always under that hose, pull off the hose, u will see a butterfly valve that opens and closes as u match the accelarator, that is ur throttle body, spray carburretor cleaner through the throttle body, if you are lucjky, it will resolve the problem,, if not u will have to clean the IAC valve below, ur mechanic can help you do that. nmote: the correct way to clean the throttle body is to take it out and use tooth brush and a good solvent to clean the insides throughly |

olason:ur total load is approx 350watts. see the calculation below 200 X 12V DIVIDED BY 350WATTS THIS WILL GIVE U ABT 8HRS, u can punch out the numbers. so depending on the life/quality of ur battery and the efficiency of ur inverter, u wud hv btw 7 to 12hrs on inverter use 2 Likes |

prolly the throttle body or the idle air control valve, IAC VALVE. ANOTHER COMMON CAUSE IS THE VACCUM problem. best bet is to start simple, clean the throttle body and IAC valve first, and then proceed to the major ones iof the problem still persists |

u gotta post more details,,,,, does it happen when the a/c is on or off?, does it happen all the time, or only when the engine is cold? what make/model is ur car. is the check engine light showing?, note: most naija mechanics/car dealers are fond of disconnecting the check engine light bulb/sensor, to give u a false sense that all is well, CROOKS! |

a lot of nigerians dont care about mileage.tis a pity. when i wanted to buy a car, the dealer showed me a 2003 corolla, with 6000miles!!!.lol, i laughed in his face, he was explaining that the car is just like tear rubber, blah blah blah. i know the odometer was rolled back, or that the car was left parked and unused for yrs, and both factors above are deterimental to the performance of any engine. leaving a car parked for yrs, causes lots of probs. thats why i started my express vin check thread to help fellow nigerians check the car vins urgently b4 paying/buying any car, cos then i knew abt vin checks, but had no clue on how/where to check it. some nairalanders hv called me while they were at the car lot and i helped them check and mail the vin reports within minutes! |
