@larky, try any of these steps, either will confirm if the famous rav 4 transmission probs is abt to hit ur car. 1. go to a diagnoistic center, let dem use their scanner, if the get error code p0755 or so, or the solenoid malfunction error. 2. put ur key in the ignition and open the bonnet, turn the key to ON position, but dont start the car, listen carefully in the engine bay, if u hear a humming sound, then its probablly the shift solenoid probs = early warning signs of ecm probs 3. when u put the car in reverse, does it enter reverse with a thump? 4. on the highway when accelarating, does the car hestitate in changing gears, ie a time lag b4 it responds to ur pedal input on the accelarator? other signs, Symptoms could occur any time and quite suddenly, without any warning signs. Shifting of gears will become erratic, bumpy, sometime even slipping. Car may start taking off from high gear, reverse engagement often harsh, forward too soft. Check Engine Light might comes on, but not always. ABOVE ALL, GO TO A DIAGNOISTIC CENTER AND HV THE ERROR CODES READ, THAT WAY U CAN KNOW UR STAND, COS IF ITS THE ECM PROB and u continue driving the car, u will damage ur transmission/gear box, and that my friend costs abt 4k usd in the states, though it might be cheaper in naija,. there is a thread on nairaland on this rav4 ecm issue, search 4 it, will post it if i see it. @ siena sorry 4 going offtopic! |

@ larky, is ur oxygen sensor bad? the only way of knowing is if ur check engine light comes on, and u scan it with an obd scanner.from the error code it brings, u will now know if its the oxygen sensor or something else. most cars comes with 2 or 4 oxygen sensors, mine has 4 such sensors, 2 located before the catalytic convertor [pre CAT], this one is normally called the air- fuel sensor = A/F sensor 2 located after the catalytic converter [post CAT]. driving a car with bad oxygen sensors 4 a long period of time will damage the CATALYTIC converter, n this aint cheap, it also makes ur car eat more fuel. though ur average mechanic will tell u, OGA NO MIND THAT THING, JUST DEY DRIVE UR CAR DEY GO, E NO DEY WORK ANYTHING', |

yeah most nigerians dont hv the right mindset when it comes to fuel consumption. most of the colleagues in my office, if u ask dem,, they always say, my fulltank takes me 1wk or 2wks, they hv no clue on the actual mileage driven, the tank capacity etc, it really pisses me off, though thank God for the internet, i do my research online on any car am interested in, that way i get to know the mpg, and common major and minor issues faced by users. & yes, the quality of petrol in nigeria is poor, plus our bad roads, lack of regular maintaince - peeps rarely change their fuel/air filter until the cars performance is affected so its gonna be hard for any nigerian to achieve us/uk kinds of mileage |
no ur maths is wrong, i said 152miles on half tank, so it implies i do 152 X2 on a full tank, doing the math i get 24.6mpg. note my post cat oxygen sensors are bad, just changed them last wk, will check the mpg again when next i travell if i wud notice any increase. |
highway miles and intercity miles aint the same thing.the traffic situation in nigeria is a mess. a full tank gives me abt 160miles intercity/heavy traffic, with a/c on highway, i hv done 152miles on half tank. my tank is 56litres Fuel tank capacity: *** 56 Fuel type: Petrol/Diesel. petrol Fuel computer: Yes/No. no Transmission: Auto/Manual. auto Air conditioner: Yes/No. yes Fuel range as indicated by fuel computer: *** n/a, but users in the US claim btw 320 to 370 per full tank Actual range consistently achieved: *** n/a |

PapaBrowne:its the same sahara reports that reported that yar adua was dead - 2 solid months b4 the fg acknowledged it. sahara reports also reported that gej was stoned in abuja - n gej assistandt on media rushed to deny the event and labeled sahara reports as liars, but the ugandan prez was at the same time apologising to nigeria 4 the incident!!, now u and i know that gej was stoned in uganda, n that his advisers in nigeria lied that he wasnt stoned. !!!, no newspaper/media service is 100% right all the time. sahara reports make their mistakes once in a while, but this time they r correct, look at the scanned copy of the 63m to be spent on church service, its 100% original, [am not against the 63m church service tab] |
Era Of Waste: Jonathan's Inauguration to Gulp N5 billion, Church Service N63 Million Posted: May 22, 2011 - 14:44 By SaharaReporters, New York A scandalous squandering of scarce public funds for next Sunday’s inauguration of Goodluck Jonathan's presidency is in effect. SaharaReporters investigations have revealed that the inauguration ceremonies will last one week at a budget of about N5 billion ($32 million). In a memo obtained by SaharReporters, the church service alone, which will take place next Saturday, will swallow over N62 million( $403,000) The memo is signed by the Minister of Aviation, Fidelia Njeze, in her role as the chairman of the Church Service sub-committee of the 2011 Presidential Inauguration Committee. Wearing that cap, Mrs. Njeze will oversee the church service on Saturday May 28, at the Christian center in Abuja for a couple of hours. The Presidential Inauguration Committee is listed under the office of the Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF). Presidency sources told SaharaReporters that apart from the series of committees set up by the Office of the SGF, the president's office and that of the First Lady also have their different budgetary expenses for the event. In the church committee activity, Mrs. Njeze proposes to provide a public address system for N35 million. She will also refurbish the Christian Center's 24 air-conditioning system for N8 million; provide multimedia projectors and screens for another N8 million, and pay as well as pay officiating ministers N2.5 million. wonders shall neva end. era of wastage don begin o. gej inaugration to gulp 5bn naira! http://www.saharareporters.com/news-page/era-waste-jonathans-inauguration-gulp-n5-billion-church-service-n63-million |
endmoll:i wish i cud do it free, but there are so many free vin check threads. my thread/service i render is directed towards those who want urgent service for their vin reports, and cant stand the delay in the free vin threads, i was a victim of the free vin thread thingy, i wanted to buy a car and had several cars to pick from, thus i needed the vin check urgently.abt 4 vins and i needed the report within hrs, and not days as obtained in the free vin check thread. take for example posting 4 vin check requests in the free vin check thread - u wud just be ignored, no one wud do it for u, and then mailing it 2 u within hrs again, no one wud also do that 4 u, -- since its a free service, u get the report when the poster is free/is happy/is in the mood. the service i offer, is fast n reliable, no downtime, and i always deliver on time, go tru my thread, not a single complaint of poor or slow service. i post most vin reports within 1hr or within 12hrs if its posted after 9pm.charging the token fee enables me pay for my internet acces and be online 24/7, thus making me respond fast 2 vin requests cheers |
guarantees?, i doubt, listen my car had a check engine light, n since i hv a personal scanner, i scanned it myself, it said that both post CAT oxygen sensors are bad. i chked some auto parts shop, they didnt hv it, had to order it 4rm the US, when it arrived, it got a mechanic to help me remove it, since i didnt hv the oxygen sensor socket. he took both of them out, n fixed new ones right in my presence, i started the car, and within 10mins another check engine light came on!, guess what?.it was the pre CAT A/F sensors, 1 of them had just gone bad!, if i wasnt there and if i wasnt knowledgeable, i wud hv said that the mechanic is the cause/is playing pranks, but i had done my homework well, n most people reported that 4 out of 10 times another oxygen sensor usually goes bad just after changing any of them, |
