wittyemi: Hmmmmmm,my witty writer. I see you just realised it's been long you gave us food for thought. Nice one.
After condemning we Africans you couldn't even commend us for always being at the airport at least 1 hour b4 our flight takes off; we hardly go late to the airport if we have a flight to catch...Whew! at least something good is coming from Africa by Africans. *Winks* Jesus Christ!
This man are you a prophet? I had the airport, boarding pass, and so on in mind when I was writing but deliberately left it out so it doesn't conflict with my line of thought.

clementy117: BREAKING NEWS.......
....
Can never be repaired!!
Well, the latest is that it will take 24 -32 hrs for NYSC to get things in other. These are some of the recurring factors that have held us bound and confined us to our current state of life. It is so awkward that we Africans operate predominantly with the African time Syndrome resulting in defiling and devaluing the essence of timing and time management. For example, going by your last statement, why should preparation for provision of Call Up Letters to PCMs be carried out on the supposed day of commencement of the printout? This is similar to some of the things that happen as stated below: 1. Lectures/Exams is scheduled for 10am. Students will begin to leave their homes by 5 minutes to 10am and start complaining about traffic on arrival. 2. Semester begins as usual, some student will deliberately not resume until they hear they have started writing tests, assignments and taking serious attendance. 3. Semester will begins 20th April 2016, many students will wait until it is 2 weeks to exam before they'll commence intensive reading (if there is no other way to pass the course). 4. An assignment/term paper will be given with a two-weeks deadline. But student will wait until it is 30 minutes to submission, before they begin to put facts together (usually from others who have completed theirs). 5. A church program will be scheduled for 4pm. Exactly 4pm is when people will begin to leave their home. 6. Some people tend to have goals (long-term, intermediate and short-term) about their dream organisations. But will wait until a day to interview before they think of putting up a standard CV (probably settling for common samples from Google.com) or practice likely interview questions from G-Maths. 7. Open a shop or start selling a product or service, before they begin to study and learn the basics and effect of Business Management, Business Systems, Business taxes, Business Registration, Staffing and working ethics, Corporate marketing, etc. 8. Most people get into Public Offices and wait until it is some months to the end of their tenure, before they begin to embark on a six year project. 9. Most tenants will rent an apartment and will wait until it is a week to eviction before they begin make plans to raise money to renew it. 10. Many people will buy an electronic/computing device (Phones, gadgets, television, etc), but will never read the MANUAL until the day it develops a fault. 11. etc WHEN WILL ALL THESE AFRICAN TIME SYNDROME COME TO AN END |

20 THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW AND/OR DO AS GRADUATES or BEFORE SERVICE ELAPSES CROBBOY: 1. Discover Yourself and your Gifts! Socrates the great Philosopher once said "Man Know Thyself" because he realized that the first and most important thing in life to discover yourself - to know your unique contributions to life. Many people just exist. They go along with the waves and current and anything that looks cool or trending. Their presence or absence in any place or gathering makes no difference because they are the "ME TOO" kind of people.
Unless a man discovers himself and know his gifting, he'll continue to operate in the lowest echelons of life (lightly esteemed and lowly look down upon).
2. Know how to Turn your Gifting into Financial Rewards Discovering your gifts is one thing. Getting rewards for them is another. People don't pay you to do for them what they can do for themselves. THEY ONLY PAY YOU TO HELP THEM SOLVE PROBLEMS.
Until you are able to turn your gifts and talents into the solutions to people's problem(s), don't expect to get paid (unless from relatives and close associates)
3. Sell you Value Proposition You can be as intelligent as Albert Einstein or as Innovative and Creative as Steve Jobs, but if no one knows you have those abilities, you will just live to be an INTELLIGENT-BROKE-ASS. Don't waste your time hanging around those critiques who see nothing other than reasons why those your products and services (skills, talent, abilities, etc.) won't work. Take them to people and places where there are appreciated and needed. Build and leverage on HUMAN NETWORKS as much as possible. (...to be continued)
4. Know the Difference between Assert and Liability A lot of people still work with the assumptions that their PERSONAL houses, cars, electronics, gadgets, clothings, et al are ASSERTS. This is one misconception that slavery has ingrained in us from time immemorial. Robert Kiyosaki in his book "Rich Dad Poor Dad" explained: "An ASSERT is something that brings money into your pocket on its own while a LIABILITY is something that takes money out."
"WEALTHY MEN" spend their money and so do "POOR MEN." While it is what the wealthy men spend on that makes them richer, it is also what the poor men spend on that makes them poorer. THE DIFFERENCE LIES IN UNDERSTAND WHAT IS AN ASSERT OR LIABILITY TO YOU.
5. Read (and own) atleast 30 books before you are 30 The saying goes that two things determines where you will be in the next 3 - 10 years: The people you associate with and The Books you read. Someone else said that when you find a man of uncommon intelligence, ask him what kind of books he reads. The Whites jeer us by saying "if you want to hide something from the blacks, put it in a book."
There are so much I have to say in this respect but note, the more you are diversified in your knowledge (know a lot within and outside your area of specialization), the better your chances of success in any industry. It is said that it is what you don't know that kills you.
THIS IN MY OPINION, IS ONE OF THE KEY FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MASS UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AMONG GRADUATES. This is because we are SO MUCH reliant on our schooling systems, when these systems DO NOT teach us ALL the basics we need to know that are required of us out there. Practical things like: =Attitude and Character =Interpersonal Relationship =Personal and Corporate Leadership =Time Management and Time Evolution =Temperaments =Entrepreneurship (Ability to pick anything and turn it into a business) =Public speaking and Skilful Communication =Nigeria taxes and its effect on business =Business Plan, system and proposal =Why FAILURE is a necessary TOOL for SUCCESS =Work and Dining Etiquettes =Dressing and Clothing for several purpose =Writing your Curriculum Vitae/Resume =Trending IT equipments and Office Tools =Multi-tasking =How to conduct one's self during job interview =How to manage Marriage/Love life with work and other things effectively =How to Transform your Talents and Gifts into financial rewards =The school will also not tell you that you will NEVER BECOME WEALTHY by being an EMPLOYEE (All what you will hear is study hard, get a good grade, so that you can get a good job. I LAUGH ) =etc etc etc etc etc
ALL THESE THINGS ARE HIDDEN IN ONE BOOK OR THE OTHER.
6. Get a Mentor A Chinese adage has it that "better than a thousand years of diligent search, is one day with a great Mentor - a great Teacher." Another saying goes, "when we stand on the shoulders of people that have gone ahead of us, we see into the future." Do not only resort to getting a ROLE-MODEL, get a mentor - a person with more experience than you in your chosen field, and be HUMBLE ENOUGH to follow his/her leading and teachings. All great men since the time of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, etc have succeeded following this single principle.
7. Get (a) Professional Certification(s) Since 1989, we have moved from the INDUSTRIAL AGE to the INFORMATION AGE. In the Information Age, it is no longer how HARD you work any more that count but how SMART. As a result, two kinds of certificates are required of you in the Work Force or Labour Market nowadays: EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION (like the B.Sc, B.A, B.Ed, B.Tech, LLB, etc. that you have where you earn less if at all) and a PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION (like ICAN, PMP, CCNA, NIMN, OCA, etc. where you earn more)
Believe me when I say that regardless of your Grade in School, a Professional Certification provides better opportunities in the WORK FORCE {i.e. a THIRD CLASS STUDENT with a STANDARD RECOGNISED Professional Certification stands a better chance out there than a student with only SECOND CLASS UPPER (CGPA =4.49)}
8. Know the true Definition of Love Love goes beyond a plate of Mr. Biggs, a one-time gift of golden chain, a Brazilian hair, a Blackberry phone or Car Key on a Birthday, 5-rounds of GOOD sex, broad chest and shoulders, nice lines extracted from Ramsey Noah, Sexy eyes/looks/endowments, etc. In Marriage, you will need much more than that (which I know that is where most of us are headed).
Love does not stop as an EMOTION - Love is COMPLETELY A RATIONAL CHOICE. This is because when the HEAT (challenges of life and of the relationship) begin to show up, those EMOTIONS die off temporarily or completely. The only guarantee at this time in your relationship is the REASON(s) you cannot let go (Which have to be set aright from the outset while thinking rationally).
Love is not blind - that is an illusion. LOVE SEES CLEARLY AND MAKES CAREFUL CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE MAKING COMMITMENT.
Some of the greatest qualities of love are found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. In all my reading, I've not been able to find a perfect replacement for this.

For all those still in doubt of 27th April being a reality, this is a confirmation from the New DG himself since 5pm yesterday: " NYSC, CLTC RENEW COMMITMENT TO PARTNERSHIP The Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC), Mr. Michael Fawole has described the relationship between the National Youth Service Corps and the centre as symbiotic. Fawole made the remarks when the NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Sule Kazaure paid him a courtesy visit in his office. The CLTC Director-General, who was visibly elated to receive the NYSC Boss a day after assumption of office by the latter, expressed joy for being among the first to be visited. He noted the cordial working relationship he had been enjoying with the scheme and pledged his support for the new Director-General. Fawole also said that the NYSC scheme had always created a forum for youths to find their feet adding that its role in the corporate existence of Nigeria could be over-emphasised. He prayed for God’s guidance for the NYSC Director-General in his new assignment. Earlier, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General SZ Kazaure said he was at the CLTC because of its importance and to seek for more synergy and cooperation. Kazaure also informed his host of the scheduled commencement of the 2016 Batch ‘A’ Orientation Course on 27th April, 2016. He solicited the agency’s support while also pledging his support and assistance." Source: https://m.facebook.com/officialnysc/posts/1000616290020899:0 and nysc.gov.ng/index.php |

At least I can sleep this night reminiscing on the +ve news I read about nysc on Nairaland today. Shey u get? Yea! I am not an antagonist of good news. Afterall, if corpers allowance is increased within our service year it'll all be to our benefit. But there is a difference between wishful thinking, hope, believe and statement of fact. The country's economic position at the moment should guide you on the kind of believe you should sustain which can likely see the light any sooner. Or are you thinking the 6 billion dollars deal Baba just signed in China was specifically for NYSC I was only reacting to your statement: "Dem wan increase allawee o" which has been a long standing saga for years. Walexz02: They are still cooking it I think...should have added that. The new is on front page now. Let me chose not to question the source of this your information and deal with it as it is. Walexz02: Dem wan increase allawee o Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, the outgoing Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Monday announced plans to increase allowances of corps members soon. From the above line, the bolded emphasizes an OUTGOING DG making decisions for an incumbent. What sense does that make Okay, let me work with the assumptions that he has started the course and encouraging the new DG for a continuity plan. WHICH IS STILL A PLANWalexz02: Dem wan increase allawee o
He said the management of the scheme had drawn the attention of the Federal Government to the need to increase the allowances. Olawumi said there was positive signal that the federal government would grant the request. The second statement above suggests to me that the management of NYSC is still in the process of deliberating and negotiating with the Federal Government. The third Statement (in bold) suggest that the provision of funds ( which you limited it to corper's allowance increment ) is still a wishful expectation of the outgoing DG and haven't yet seen a positive light from the Federal Government. That is a statement I have heard repeatedly since last year. Walexz02: Dem wan increase allawee o
“We have brought to federal government’s attention the urgent need to increase some of the allowances due to corps members and recent response suggests a strong ray of light at the end of the tunnel. This is another wishful thinking, with no precise fact specifying an exact date where the supposed "ray of light" will be implemeted. WHAT DO YOU DEFINE AS "END OF THE TUNNEL" Walexz02: Dem wan increase allawee o
“You may not be aware that series of letters that have been written and necessary follow up to the appropriate authorities on the need for proper funding of the scheme. “This is especially important now that the current corps population has risen to 260,000 per year,” Olawunmi said. Olawumi therefore advised his successor to make the welfare of corps members and staff his top priority to boost their morale for effective service delivery. The statement above suggest to me to be an acknowledgement of failure on the part of the outgoing DG to achieve the said purpose while encouraging the incumbent DG to bringing this into fruition. Walexz02: Dem wan increase allawee o
Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, the outgoing Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Monday announced plans to increase allowances of corps members soon. Olawumi said this in Abuja while handing over to the new director-general of the scheme, Brig.-Gen. Sule Kazaure.
He said the management of the scheme had drawn the attention of the Federal Government to the need to increase the allowances. Olawumi said there was positive signal that the federal government would grant the request. “We have brought to federal government’s attention the urgent need to increase some of the allowances due to corps members and recent response suggests a strong ray of light at the end of the tunnel. “The major challenge I had as director-general of the scheme is the increasing corps population which was accompanied with dwindling financial resources. “It is rather unfortunate that we could not execute some major programmes and activities due to paucity of funds. “The scheme was not able to handle some of its programmes especially the sports and cultural festival in 2015.
“On Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, I assumed duty as the 16th Chief Executive of the scheme during which I pledged to be transparent, fair and just to all toward the uplifting of the scheme. “To actualise this, I wrote out my vision for the scheme which aimed to increase the impact of the NYSC scheme and expand its value to critical stakeholders. “I could not have achieved much if I did not get the loyalty and support of the staff; whether I fulfilled in my duties or not I leave it for you staff to judge me.
“I urged you staff of the scheme to continue to support the new head of the scheme to enable him consolidate on the successes and achievements so far recorded. “Your role in the sustenance of the scheme cannot be overemphasised as this has over the years contributed to the development and progress of the country,” Olawumi said. Responding, Kazaure pledged to give corps and staff welfare priority, and called on them to support him to make the scheme achieve more success . He said: “The task ahead is enormous and the road looks very rough but with sincerity of purpose we will make progress.’’ He, therefore, enjoined the staff to be more proactive to enable the NYSC achieve the desired success in line with the vision of the present administration. Nice to hear from you. But how did the above write-up look like a move for corper's allowance increment |
