Let me open the floor.

Hi i am Uzoma and an aspiring start up founder. I already have developed the business model, the problem holding us back is the design of the website of the business bearing in mind that this is an internet startup, that's the most important part.

Well i have identified a guy who is a very good programmer and web designer and i am trying to woo him to design the website with the view of him being the CTO and also a co-founder with a 40 percent stake in the company.

Anyone with this experience or has a better solution can contribute. Thanx

Well it depends on the kind of business you want to launch online? Can you share a little bit? You must also know that it's very easy to start creating a website, but not have a strategy to launch the business...As in begin to build buzz and interest even before you launch.. So think of having a launch strategy..

I figured there has been a lot of talk on How To DO Online Business, but yet even does that launch into buying all the courses and starting their blog or any other online business, fail to succeed or loose interest at some stage..

1. Don't Start Without Definition: Most beginners don't define their goal when they start online business...Some would think it's just to make money, but please i think that is a cheap reason... But what if the money doesn't come after may 2 months of hard labouring, you pack sheee?

2. Don't Start Without A Platform: Where can people find you online. For some people that start online business, it's usually to share a message or their passion...Like Linda Ikeji does with celebrity gist or Jide Ogusannya does with Tech stuff..But these people have a blog. Somewhere every body know they can find them... Do you have a blog? Are you utilizing Whatsapp or BBM, or your Facebook Timeline as your platform. Where can we always find you.

3. Don't Start If You DOn't Have Anything To sell - Linda Ikeji is selling gist news and also adverts spaces on her blog..Should i say she is selling traffic...LOL, Jide Ogusannya is selling blogging training to his followers.

Good questions, but I may not tell you how much I make per month. I do freelance jobs and it pays me.
Well, the major reason I quit blogging is because I was not making money, yet publishing all the time. as regards my monthly earnings, I make between 500 and 900 dollars monthly.
Like I said in the original post, what works for me might not be okay for you. Other people are making it big through blogging, but it just don't work for me.
I trained a few guys about "Passion and Personal Ability". I can't tell which is the best for you until I have a private interview with you. So for recommendations, I can't generalize it.

Blogging is mostly instrumental to people that know they want to share a message or passion...probably teach or share something they feel other people want to learn from...Just like Linda Ikeji is sharing gist on her blog.

One great thing i love about owning a blog is that it provides people first hand information on what you do..
You don't have to spend time explaining it to them...just direct them to your blog and they also can access your content and materials. I have been doing that on through my blog www.richardokere.com

I personally recommend blogging for personal brand building and building a Fan base or community of followers... You wouldn't love that??

Now i want to share with you some great ideas on how you can use your business website to make more money for yourself, in fact unlimited cash; and also use it to build yourself as an authority in your field and grow your business faster.

1. The first thing is that you must actually be selling something. Whether we believe it or not, your website is a sells tool. So there should be something on it people can buy. It could be your skills as comedian or a dancer or a writer. You could be offering a service such as consultancy or web designing or construction or baking and decorating.

2. Make It Easy To Find You

The next thing about having a website is that you have it easy for your potential clients or buyers to find you. it would be useless and kind of frustrating to have all that information on your website about your product and services, your company, how to contact you but yet people cannot find you. There are different ways to get people to find your website and I want to some of them with you.

First is by search engine optimization (SEO). This has to do with building your website in such a way that your it attracts a sizeable number of visitors from search engine like Google. Another way is to use to use online discussion forums on your niche just like Nairaland.

Now another method you can use to make your website seen is to use Pay per Click Advertising. In this advertising model, the publisher will publish your ads on his site and you’ll only pay when you ads are clicked – that’s why it’s called Pay Per Click.

3. Build A Mailing List
A mailing list is a list of people who subscribe to a periodic mailing distribution on a particular topic. This people give you permission to send them information to their email addresses regarding your product, services, offers, events, materials etc. If you don't understand what email marketing means, then I suggest you log in to your yahoo or Gmail account and check out all the emails you've been receiving, then you'll understand better.

When you build an opt in or mailing list, you are creating one of the most valuable assets for your online business. Your customer or subscribers have given you permission to give them something they've asked for, develop lifetime relationship with them.

Here is how this works. First step is that you build in a subscription form into your website which you'll use to collect the email addresses of your visitors, then the second step is for you to send targeted traffic (visitors) to the subscription page.

Now it's usually advised that you offer your visitors something in exchange for their email address. You could say something like: "Subscribe To My Newsletter and Receive This Free E-book on How To Attract 1000 visitors To Your Website In 24 hours". Something like that will get attention. But you have to ensure that what you're giving is something that will really be of great benefit to the subscriber. Something they can hardly resist.

The third and final step is simply to keep sending them stuff once you've gotten their email address. Just any relevant helpful stuff you lay hands on or develop. It could be industry news, or an update on new products, trends, free books, or audio or video etc.

I think the problem most people have is the don't do strategic planning before importing the products. You should ask yourself: What need would I be filling with my product and where is the best place to find the exact people that need it? What strategies do I deploy?
Even providing the right answers to these questions will not guarantee success if you don't back it with consistent promotion.


Maybe we are too interested in quick profit and when it doesn't come, we lose motivation to continue. It's either your sales approach is not right or you are in the wrong market.
