PoliticsFox News: Activists Accuse Nigerian Military Of Killing Hundreds Of Shiites by crosbreaka(op): 10:06pm On Dec 15, 2015
Published December 15, 2015Associated Press

LAGOS, Nigeria – Activists on Tuesday accused Nigeria's military of killing hundreds upon hundreds, perhaps as many as 1,000, Shiite Muslims in just three days in what the country's top human rights protector is calling "a massacre" in the ancient Islamic town of Zaria.

The Shiite Islamic Movement in Nigeria said soldiers on Monday carried away about 200 bodies from around the home of leader Ibraheem Zakzaky, who was badly wounded in the attack, and demanded that the bodies be returned for the speedy burial required by Islamic tradition, according to group spokesman Ibrahim Musa.

Chidi Odinkalu of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission posted photos on social media showing a bulldozer tearing apart a Shiite shrine and said Zakzaky's home also was destroyed Zaria, located 100 miles southwest of Kano, Nigeria's second-largest city in the north.

Odinkalu told The Associated Press that Zakzaky suffered four bullet wounds and one of his wives was killed in raids that began Saturday and ended with Zakzaky's detention by soldiers on Monday morning. Odinkalu was quoting the family doctor.

Two of Zakzaky's sons also were killed and one was wounded, according to Musa.

Zakzaky and one wife have been detained by the military, according to Kaduna state Gov. Nasir El-Rufai.

Odinkalu and other human rights activists said there are hundreds of bodies at the mortuary of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital on the outskirts of Zaria.

"Citizens must ask, who ordered this carnage?" Odinkalu tweeted.

Nigerian troops said the raids came after 500 Shiites blocked the convoy of Nigeria's army chief, and tried to kill him. Army spokesman Col. Sani Usman said the Shiites stoned the convoy. But a military report seen by the AP said the group actually opened fire on the convoy and planned to petrol bomb the vehicle of Gen. Tukur Buratai.

Maj Gen. Adeniyi Oyebade, who was in charge of the operation, told reporters Monday night that the military acted because they had reports the Shiites were gathering for an attack. "Of course, because of the report I got that they are mobilizing, I had to order that the Gyallesu (Zakzady's residence) and Hussainiya (shrine) be brought down," he said.

He said both the military and the Shiites suffered casualties and that the dead are still being counted.

Odinkalu tweeted that his friend, UNDP worker Bukhari Mohammed Bello Jega, was killed and "his young wife & child are also missing, presumed dead ..."

Outraged Nigerians took to social media to condemn "trigger-happy troops" and "extra-judicial killings."

The three areas attacked by the military remained on lockdown Tuesday, with no one allowed to enter or leave. Musa charged wounded people are being denied medical treatment by the blocks.

Iran, seen as the guardian of the Shiite Muslim faith, condemned the killings. Iranian state TV said the Foreign Ministry on Monday summoned Nigeria's charge d'affaires to demand that the Nigerian government take responsibility for the lives and properties of its millions of Shiites.

State Department spokesman John Kirby said the U.S. Embassy in Abuja is seeking information about what happened. He said the U.S. government will continue to make protection of civilians and respect for human rights "a priority in its ongoing engagement with the Nigerian government."

Nigeria's Shiites, a movement started 37 years ago by Zakzaky, who dresses in the robes and turban of an Iranian ayatollah, often have clashed with police and other security forces over their unlawful blocking of major roads to hold religious processions.

Nigeria's military is infamous for its excesses. Nigerian troops are accused of killing thousands of detainees by shooting, torture, starvation and suffocation in its prosecution of a war against Boko Haram Islamic extremists in the northeast.

The Shiites two weeks ago suffered a suicide bombing by Boko Haram that killed 22 people. Boko Haram often attacks Muslims who oppose its radical vision of Islam.

In 2009, Nigerian armed forces attacked Boko Haram's headquarters and killed about 700 people, including its leader. The group re-emerged as a much more violent entity.

"protective custody" is play with terminologies and to escape constitutional scrutiny, as anyone arrested should not be held for more than 48hours.

possibly, they wish to keep him for a long time under the excuse of "protecting him".

From all indications you have never encountered these shiite people. That's all I will say. Seems you've never been to the north.
This people will shut down a whole town with all its business activities for almost a whole day without prior notice. You can't even cross the road on foot else they can and most definitely will kill you. They mount structures on the major way through town because of their activities and can destroy your vehicle at will. They don't have regard for any law or person.
in their decades, over forty years of processions, how many people have they killed?

So soldiers were "pleading" with suicide bombers?! Nonsense!!!

Who even believes Nigerian soldiers would plead with civilians? And after pleading they killed hundreds! And the killings took place at three locations and after the army chief has passed.

Keep justifying state terrorism. Soon it would be your own turn.

it is actually funny how northerners have all of a sudden become civil, social, and peace loving sensitive to road blocking.

Jonathan's convoy used to be stoned in the north during visits and campaign. is the COAS higher than the president? yet Jonathan security convoy shot at no one but left without throwing a stone back.

people being disobedient and stubborn headed doesnt warrant killing them. if this is not checked, it would be seen as impunity.

You are talking out of ignorance. Peaceful indeed
ISIS and Boko Haram are bloodthirsty
And the Shia Quds Force are the same? Go to Iraq and see what they are doing to Sunnis

But at least this one is indisputable. Iran used to be a Sunni country. The Safavid regime turned it into a Shia country by force - assassination, massacre, intimidation. Just google how Iran became a Sunni country
Egypt was a Shia country. read how Salahuddin turned it Sunni.

as for Iran, the Persians have long had a distaste for Arabs. Sunni caliphs were seen as racist to persians. persian became Sunni through conquest. so if persian revolted, dont blame them. Shi'ism though had deep root in persia. only that when the safavid took over, they imposed Shia Islam as official religion.

in iraq, who is bombing Shia mosques? almost everyday i turned on the tv, i hear Shias are killed. i wonder why? even if they are not Muslims, must you kill them?

stop justifying Sunni terrorism, please.

Last year, three of Zakzaky's sons and thirty others were shot and killed during a procession. The reason was they blocked roads and they attacked the soldiers patrol vehicle. Yet not one soldier sustained a bruise!

Today we hear again of blocking roads and another spicier story that there was an attempt on the Chief of Army Staffs life. Is it blocking roads or attempted assassination ?

Common sense would tell us that Zakzaky as a leader of an organization cannot allow his followers do such a stupid thing except if he wants to get tortured. This is a man that preaches in broad daylight. When his three sons were killed, Iheajirika wasn't attacked. Why would they attack Buratai? The penalty for closing roads should not be death. In a democracy people have the right to express themselves freely and peacefully associate or rally. Why the bloodshed?

The Claim by the Nigerian Army is a blatant lie

Saturday, 12 December 2015 16:35

The Flimsy excuse given by the Nigerian Army, as reported by some Media outlets, that a Commandant or Chief of Army Staff narrowly escaped death as a result of Attack from Muslim brothers and Sisters is a blatant lie.

The attack on the defenseless people by the Nigerian Soldiers is unprovoked. The Claim by the Army raises series of questions in the mind of right thinking people. The armless Muslims gathered for ceremony at Husainiyyah, as usual to change the flag on the dome of Husainiyyah, heralding the beginning of the month of R/Auwal- the birth month of the Prophet Muhammad Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him and his household.

Any excuse given by the military as reason for besieging Husaniyyah and firing for hours, leading the death of yet to be specified number of people, is considered a Lie of the Decade.

In the same vein, the report of clash, as given by some media, between brothers and Nigerias soldiers is also untrue as nothing like a clash but a crackdown on a defenceless people by blood thirsty soldiers.

so holding peaceful processions to commemorate religious events now amount to "trouble making"?

is it better to hold peaceful religious ceremonies as the Shia Muslims do or to behave like jungle animals like Wahhabi Boko Haram does?

for those who dont know, recently the largest pilgrimage on earth was held in Iraqi city of Karbala. over 20 million Shia Muslims converged on the shrine of Hussain Ibn Ali, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammed revered by Shi'ite Muslims in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala.

if in london and washingon and other western capitals, and even in accra (ghana) and elsewhere they hold their peaceful processions, why should a religious procession be seen as a cause for concern in Zaria? after all, it is not more than the roads they make use of. if western countries can tolerate such processions in their capital, then why should they be shot elsewhere?

Shiite Muslims hold anti-terrorism rally in Washington

By Michelle Boorstein December 7

Hundreds of Shiite Muslims turned a major annual spiritual ritual into an anti-terrorism rally Sunday, marching, singing and praying for hours from trendy Dupont Circle to the White House as tourists and brunch-goers rubbernecked.

Connecticut Avenue was a sea of black as Shiites mostly from the D.C. region waved banners with the name of their spiritual forefather, Imam Hussein, and pounded their chests with their fists simultaneously as an expression of mourning. His martyrdom 1,400 years ago is a major part of Shiite narrative and a defining event in the break between Shiite and Sunni Muslims, and is marked annually. A few days ago, more than 22 million Shiites and others visited the Iraqi city of Karbala in a pilgrimage to the place where Hussein died.

But this year the event twinned as a peace march. Muslims — including head-covered women, young children and hipsters with man buns on hoverboards — held signs condemning terrorism and the Islamic State and handed out hot chocolate and doughnuts in an effort to open conversations with passersby.

Some American Muslim groups and prominent U.S. Muslims have been making extra public efforts since the recent terrorism-related killings in San Bernardino, Calif., to speak against the Islamic State terrorist group, which is also known as ISIS, and radical Islamists.

“What’s happening now is we feel even more compelled to come out of our homes,” said Zehra Raza, 27, an electrical engineer from Alexandria, Va., who was at the rally with her husband.

The crowd was smaller than in past years, she and others said, because many Muslims were afraid of being harassed or targeted with violence. Such incidents have been on the rise. Many police officers were on hand, and there were no obvious protests against the rally.

When the crowd arrived at Lafayette Park across from the White House, tourists pulled out their cellphones. One group from Poland attempted in broken English to explain to a pair from Colombia what was going on.

“Some [Muslims] were afraid, but I think this is the perfect time to come out and stand with people who are oppressed. ISIS is the same as what Hussein was fighting 1,400 years ago,” Raza said.

ISIS has persecuted Shiites — among other religious minorities — in Syria and Iraq, called them infidels and killed them.

As Raza spoke, and offered strangers Krispy Kreme doughnuts, a woman from outside the group approached her to offer support and give her a hug. “God bless. Or whomever bless — the universe bless,” the woman said as she walked away.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says that the U.S. cannot "vilify" all American Muslims in the wake of recent violent extremism in the U.S. and overseas. (AP)

Many of the signs echoed the views of marchers — that Shiites are victims of ISIS, and in particular of the Wahhabi branch of Islam that dominates Saudi Arabia. The front row of the marchers was a phalanx of young boys holding posterboards with words such as “Americans unite against Wahhabi terrorism,” “Muslims against ISIS” and “American Shia Muslims stand with the victims of San Bernardino.”

Ali Alkhafa, 23, a University of Maryland student who grew up in California but was born in a Saudi refugee camp, said Muslim Americans are hindered from being a louder voice against terrorism by their own internal divisions.

“Muslims aren’t as vocal as we need to be,” he said as the sound of men thumping their chests punctuated the air. “It’s cultural. We’re welcoming but not as open to one another as we should be. My folks’ generation are still isolated [by ethnic group], but my generation is really open.”

The crowd appeared conservative. Men and women marched mostly separately, and women’s heads were covered. However, participants said they were more ideologically diverse, and were deferring to the more traditional gestures out of respect for one another. In the mix were convenience store managers, emergency room doctors and chemistry teachers.

Thousands of Iranian protesters took to the streets today to denounce the 'incompetence' of Saudi Arabia's handling of the Hajj pilgrimage where more than 719 people were killed in a stampede.

The horrific crush, which also left hundreds wounded, happened when two giant waves of Muslims collided at an intersection near a holy site in Mina.

Saudi health Minister Khaled al-Falih blamed victims for the disaster for failing to follow instructions, adding: 'This type of accident could have been avoided. However, this is God's will.'

But pilgrims and Muslim groups hit back angrily at the claims, accusing Saudi officials of closing two key roads so dignitaries could reach a palace.

Regional rival Iran also expressed outrage at the deaths of 131 of its nationals, with politicians in Tehran suggesting that Saudi capital Riyadh was ‘incapable’ of managing the event.

Mohammed Jafari, an advisor to the Hajj and Umrah Travel tour operator in the UK, said: 'Talking to pilgrims on the ground, they say the main reason for this accident was that the King and his palace was receiving dignitaries including the minister of defence and members of the GCC (the Gulf Co-operation Council).

'For this reason, they closed two of the entrances to where the ('stoning of the devil' ritual) happens and they closed two roads... which created two bottlenecks.

'It is the fault of the Saudi government because any time a prince comes along, they close the roads and don't think about the disaster waiting to happen.'

Speaking to Radio 4's Today Programme, he added: 'I get angry because he (Falih) blames God. In every disaster, the Saudis say it is God's will. It is not God's will – it is man's incompetence.'

Ahmed Abu Bakr, a 45-year-old Libyan who escaped the stampede with his mother, also blamed the police, saying they had closed 'all entrances and exits to the pilgrims' camp, leaving only one'.

He added: 'I saw dead bodies in front of me and injuries and suffocation. We removed the victims with the police.'

He said police at the scene appeared inexperienced, adding: 'They don't even know the roads and the places around here' as other survivors nodded in agreement.

One outspoken critic of redevelopment at the holy sites also said despite the large numbers, police were not properly trained and lacked the language skills for communicating with foreign pilgrims, who make up the majority of those on the Hajj.

'They don't have a clue how to engage with these people. There's no crowd control', said Irfan al-Alawi, co-founder of the Mecca-based Islamic Heritage Research Foundation.

Another witness, 39-year-old Egyptian Mohammed Hasan, voiced worries that a similar incident 'could happen again'.

'You just find soldiers gathered in one place doing nothing,' he said.

He also alleged that he had been insulted because of his nationality, when security men asked him to 'come identify this Egyptian corpse'.

'Why are they humiliating us like this? We are coming as pilgrims asking for nothing,' Hasan said angrily, urging the security forces to 'organise the roads' to ensure the smooth movement of people.

King Salman has ordered 'a revision' of Hajj organisation while Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayyef, who chairs the kingdom's Hajj committee, started an inquiry.

Pilgrims in Mina stay in a complex of white fireproof tents big enough to hold more than two million people, and the interior ministry said it deployed 100,000 police to secure the Hajj, maintain safety and manage traffic and crowds.

The stampede broke out in Mina, about three miles from Mecca, during the symbolic stoning of the devil ritual. The Saudi civil defence service said it was still counting the dead, who included pilgrims from different countries.

Iran announced that 131 of its nationals were among the victims and accused regional rival Saudi Arabia of safety errors, while pilgrims at the site blamed the authorities and said they were afraid to continue the annual religious rituals.

Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims had converged on Mina to throw pebbles at one of three walls representing Satan, for the last major ritual of the Hajj, which officially ends on Sunday.

Interior ministry spokesman General Mansur al-Turki said the stampede was caused when 'a large number of pilgrims were in motion at the same time' at an intersection of two streets in Mina.

'The great heat and fatigue of the pilgrims contributed to the large number of victims,' he said. Temperatures in Mina had reached 46C on Thursday.

After the incident helicopters patrolled overhead and ambulance sirens wailed as the injured were rushed to hospitals, AFP reporters said.

At one facility, a steady stream of ambulances discharged pilgrims on stretchers.

The disaster came as the world's 1.5 billion Muslims marked Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice, the most important holiday on the Islamic calendar.

It was the second major accident this year for Hajj pilgrims, after a construction crane collapsed on September 11 at Mecca's Grand Mosque, Islam's holiest site, killing 109 people, including many foreigners.

The Hajj is among the five pillars of Islam, and every capable Muslim must perform it at least once in a lifetime. Official figures released Thursday said 1,952,817 pilgrims had performed this year's Hajj, including almost 1.4 million foreigners.

For years the event was marred by stampedes and fires, but it had been largely incident-free for nearly a decade following safety improvements.

In the last major incident, in January 2006, 364 pilgrims were killed in a stampede during the stoning ritual, and in 1990, 1,426 mainly Asian pilgrims died in a tunnel stampede at Mina after a ventilation system failure.

There was little immediate information on the nationalities of the dead, though India said 14 of its nationals died, while Jakarta said three Indonesians were killed. Officials in Turkey said at least 18 of its citizens were reported missing.

In Shi'ite-dominated Iran, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed 'improper measures' and 'mismanagement' by Saudi authorities, who he said 'must accept the huge responsibility for this catastrophe'.

Condolences came from capitals around the region and the globe, including from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, while Pope Francis expressed solidarity with Muslims and voiced the 'closeness of the church' in the face of the tragedy.

The stoning ritual emulates the Prophet Abraham, who is said to have stoned the devil when he tried to dissuade Abraham from God's order to sacrifice his son Ishmael.

At the last moment, God spares the boy, sending a sheep to be sacrificed in his place.

Muslims worldwide commemorated Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son by slaughtering cows, sheep and other animals on Thursday as part of Eid al-Adha.

Eid celebrations were also marred in neighbouring Yemen, where an Islamic State suicide bomber struck a mosque in the capital Sanaa in an attack targeting Shiite rebels, leaving 25 dead.

STAMPEDES, FALLING CRANES AND COLLAPSED BUILDINGS: HOW THOUSANDS HAVE DIED ON THE HAJJ PILGRIMAGE

Every year, millions of Muslims converge on the Saudi holy cities of Mecca and Medina for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, with the massive ceremonies representing a major security and logistical challenge for the kingdom's authorities.

On occasion, the Hajj and events surrounding it have been marred by accidents and tragedies, such as today's stampede near Mecca.

Here's a look at some deadly hajj-related incidents:

2015: At least 107 people are killed and scores wounded when a crane collapses in bad weather, crashing onto the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Islam's holiest site.

2006: More than 360 pilgrims are killed in a stampede at the desert plain of Mina, near Mecca, where pilgrims carry out a symbolic stoning of the devil by throwing pebbles against three stone walls.

The day before the Hajj began, an eight-story building being used as a hostel near the Grand Mosque in Mecca collapsed, killing at least 73 people.

2004: A crush of pilgrims at Mina kills 244 pilgrims and injures hundreds on the final day of the hajj ceremonies.

2001: A stampede at Mina during the final day of the pilgrimage ceremonies kills 35 Hajj pilgrims.

1998: About 180 pilgrims are trampled to death in panic after several of them fell off an overpass during the final stoning ritual at Mina.

1997: At least 340 pilgrims are killed in a fire at the tent city of Mina as the blaze was aided by high winds. More than 1,500 were injured.

1994: Some 270 pilgrims are killed in a stampede during the stoning ritual at Mina.

1990: The worst hajj-related tragedy claims the lives of 1,426 pilgrims in a stampede in an overcrowded pedestrian tunnel leading to holy sites in Mecca.

[b]5 FACTS ON THIS STORY AFTER RESEARCHING ON IT:

Some ignorant and over-sensational folks on Nairaland need to get their facts before they spew rubbish. they are even trying to capitalize on this story to attack President Jonathan for what the court in Nigeria has absolved some people for.

1.) you need to know that it is not every group that the US or any country brands a "terrorist group" that Nigeria must also brand a terrorist group. being a Muslim party or group doesn't necessary make any group that is at odds with the US a "terrorist group". the IRA fighting for Irish independence and nationalism is a Catholic group branded by both the US and UK "terrorist". Nelson Mandela was also once designated a terrorist for fighting for his people.

2.) Based on Nigerian law, and based on the ruling of a Nigerian court, Hezbollah is not a terrorist organization. so the owners of Amigo or any Lebanese who is associated or affiliated with that party/group has committed no offense against Nigeria, Nigerian law, or the government of Nigeria. the other charges on arms were all dropped by the court. the Lebanese businessmen were imprisoned for five months, during which it was purported that they were even drilled by MOSSAD agents in Nigeria, and the court dropped charges against them. they were freed. this can tell you that there is deep politics being played from abroad. foreign countries should not settle their scores in Nigeria. everyone in Nigeria should abide by Nigerian law, and Nigeria is neutral in their fight.

3.) if you follow international politics, this isn't the first time Lebanese businesses and businessmen have been targeted by US sanctions and were accused of having links to Hezbollah. the US could sanction anyone or anything that it doesn't have control over, or anyone who opposes Israel, and anyone that refuses to go by their dictate. a quick reminder of recent is that the US refused to sell arms to Nigeria because it claimed that human rights abuses were committed by the Nigerian Army, while the same US is having arms deals with despotic, crude and backwards governments that abuse their citizens and use American weapons on peaceful civilian protests in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and elsewhere. sanctioning of Lebanese businesses owned by Lebanese Shia has been the tactics also employed by Sunni regimes in the middle east to put pressure on Hezbollah and to try to influence Lebanese internal politics.

4.) Hezbollah is a political party in Lebanon with 14 members in the Lebanese parliament and two ministers in the Lebanese government. Hezbollah's main political ally in Lebanon is the largest Christian party in parliament called the Free Patriotic Movement led by a retired Christian general and former prime minister, Michel Aoun. the main constituency of Hezbollah is the Shi'ite (also spelled "Shia" ) community, which is the largest single religious community in Lebanon comprising 43% of Lebanon's total population. Hezbollah also has an armed wing it dumbed "the Islamic resistance" that drove Israeli occupation of Lebanon out in 2000 and fought with Israel in 2006 a standstill war. European Union members meet often with Hezbollah officials, and just yesterday it was in the news that French members of parliament met with a high ranking Hezbollah official. even until recently (in 2014) after much pressure from US and Israel, the EU only blacklisted the armed wing of Hezbollah as a "terrorist organization" and refused to blacklist the entire party. the EU, as already stated, continues to deal directly with Hezbollah.

5.) for those easily swayed by religious sentiments, who get "irritated" by anything "Muslim" or "Islam", cool down. Hezbollah is a Shia Islamist party. it is opposed by the Sunni islamist parties with Wahhabi ideological leanings. Hezbollah is currently fighting against ISIL and the Nusra Front (alqaeda's affiliate in Syria), while US allies- like turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia- continue to support these groups to battle the government of Bashar al-Assad. so the point is Hezbollah is no friend of Boko Haram. Boko Haram's leader recently pledged allegiance to the ISIL caliph. Hezbollah is siding with the Syrian Army and the government of Bashar al-Assad (who is Alawite, an sub-sect of Shia Islam) against both ISIL and Nusra Front in Syria. Nusra Front fighters are giving medical care and support by Israel across the border. Israel, and the US and its allies oppose the government of Bashar al-Assad. ISIL and other extremist Sunni Wahhabi terrorist groups view the Shi'ites as apostates/heretics.

to conclude, as far as the foreigners hosted in Nigeria are law abiding and peaceful, they pose no threat to Nigeria. whatever tactics or poltical maneuvers the US/Israel choose to play by, they should respect the sovereignty of other countries and not impose their will.[/b]

Attempts to kill Sheikh Zakzaky – Sheikh Turi calls for mass rallies, prayers

Following series of attempts on life of the Leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, His Eminence Sheikh Ibraheem Yaqoub Zakzaky (H) by the Nigerian security, Sheikh Muhammad Mahmoud Turi had issued a press statement, Monday. Below is the translated statement from Hausa to English.

Attempts by Jonathan Government to Kill Leader of the Islamic Movement, Sheikh Ibraheem Yaqoub Zakzaky

There had been series of attempts by Jonathan administration to assassinate the Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, which recently intensified. There machinations is nothing short of achieving a selfish agenda.

It would be recalled that, Jonathan administration had during the International Quds Day in Zaria killed 34 peaceful protesters and rendered over 100 injured. Out of those killed were three (3) biological sons of Sheikh Zakzaky namely, Shaheed Ahmad Zakzaky, Shaheed Hameed Zakzaky and Shaheed Mahmud Zakzaky.

Not satisfied with this atrocity, Jonathan is now blinded with full desperation to kill Sheikh Zakzaky, by laying ambush on the Sheikh’s convoy whenever he goes or returns from the Ashura mourning currently taking place at the Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, Zaria.

Therefore, we decided on our part to take the following preliminary steps:

1. We call on Muslims in and outside Nigeria to know this evil intent and take appropriate steps to ensure it does not succeed.

2. Brothers and rest of Muslims should engage in fervent recommended supplications such as Jaushan Kabeer, Jaushan Sagheer, Du’a Alqamah, Du’a Faraj, etc. similarly, Qur’an should be wholly recited at least once in a week.

3. Mass rallies should be held this across cities and towns this Friday to protest and condemn this heinous and unpopular action.

4. Posters of Sheikh Zakzaky would be raised during the rallies, in addition to distribution of specially tailored press statement that carries the written protest and condemnation of the assassination attempt.

Attempt to kill Sheikh Zakzaky: Malama Mukhtar Sahabi cautions government

By Ibrahim Usman
Following series of foiled attempts to kill Sheikh Zakzaky recently, Malam Mukhtar Sahabi has cautioned Nigerian government on the implication of its plan. He made the statement at the closeof this year's Ashura Majalis in Kaduna on Sunday.

Malam Mukhtar Sahabi said for peace to reign in Nigeria, the government led by Goodluck Jonathan should desist from their planned evil act, as "Sheikh Zakzaky the widely acclaimed as the most peaceful man in the country and even beyond Nigerian shores".

According to him, Jonathan had made up his mind to kill Sheikh Zakzaky at all cost, but the consequences will not favour him and his evil team as Allah the Almighty watches over events. "To Allah we depend, and He will surely protect His servant from the evil-plotters".

He explained that the attempt on Sheikh Zakzaky's life was sponsored by Israel, which the Nigerian president was directed to execute as a prerequisite to remain in office. "Nigerians should realize that this is an evil wind that will blow nobody any good. No one is safe, they are desperate and blind to cling to power", headded.

Malam Mukhtar Sahabi further said, the fact that Jonathan and his evil clan had given 30 days within which to kill Sheikh Zakzaky shows that, the plan is on and will continue to unfold till Araba'een, and probably beyond.

He therefore called on Brothers and Sisters to intensify prayers and vigil, as the plan also included what he calls 'Soft Targets', individul members of the Islamic Movement who will be identified and killed at any point and any moment.

"In the event of any eventuality, we know who to hold responsible. Let them know this. Besides, we will protect our Leader to last drop of our blood", he concluded.

PoliticsNigerian Government Urged To Bring Ashura Attackers In Potiskum To Justice by crosbreaka(op): 9:14pm On Nov 07, 2014
Source: IRNA
A London-based Islamic NGO said it was saddened and appalled by the deadly attack on Tuesday targeting Shia Muslims commemorating the Islamic holy day of Ashura in the city of Potiskum, Nigeria.

"The allegations of military involvement in this massacre add to a growing list of atrocities by Nigeria's armed forces. We urge the Nigerian government to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into the Potiskum attacks and bring its perpetrators to justice,"

said Islamic Human Rights Commission Chairman Massoud Shadjareh.

We urge the Nigerian government to launch an immediate investigation into the Potiskum attack, particularly the claims of Nigerian military involvement, said an IHRC press release.

So far at least 29 people are understood to have been killed and approximately 80 wounded in the suicide bombing of a religious procession and subsequent gunfire from soldiers who arrived at the scene. About half of the dead are believed to be children, the Islamic NGO added.

The bombing took place at approximately 11:15 when the suicide bomber, masquerading as a participant, detonated his explosives in the midst of the procession. Reports say that another bomber's explosive charges failed to go off and he was arrested by police.

Another attack on an Ashura procession by a mob of men in the north-western city of Sokoto left several people injured.

According to the press release quoting local sources, the finger of suspicion is being pointed at the Nigerian military, sections of which have recently been implicated in other attacks against Shia Muslims and those sympathetic to the hugely popular Islamic Movement led by Muallim Ibrahim Zakzaky.

A recent IHRC investigation into the attack by troops on a peaceful Al-Quds Day march in Zaria in July concluded that sections of the Nigerian army are out of control and may be acting outside the remit of the central government. Other human rights groups have recently documented gruesome atrocities carried out by Nigerian soldiers against alleged members of the Boko Haram movement.

Sheikh Zakzaky exposes desperate attempt at his life

By Ibrahim Usman
For the past four consecutive days during the Muharram Majalis at the Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah Zaria, Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, His Eminence Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky had been exposing the series of failed attempts at his life by the Nigerian security, especially after the bomb attack and shooting on Ashura procession in Potiskum on Monday.

On Thursday during the 14th day in the series of Ashura mourning, His Eminence disclosed that Ebele Jonathan wants him dead at all cost.

The plan, he said, was to lay siege and staged an ambush on his convoy while coming or returning from Hussainiyyah. “Ebele Jonathan after killing my sons, still insists on killing me. These people have not given up in their plan to further unleash bloodshed. They are hell-bent and desperate to continue the killings. We are not in any way surprised, this is the tradition of past and present enemies”.

He further explained that having realized their plan, his convoy changed route on Tuesday, but the security operatives stationed their combatant men on each of the two routes and planted some things, but Allah thwarted the plan.

He further explained that, a security car was identified with its number plate parked at the post office near the Hussainiyyah Wednesday night waiting for his departure and sped up and took position along one of the route when he was about to depart and had to change route.

“Whenever we expose their plan they usually retract, but I am surprised that this time around they so insistent and desperate to accomplish their mission. Yet, their strategy exhibits element of cowardice as they preferred darkness and always want a location with an escape route so that they kill and go unnoticed”, said Sheikh Zakzaky

Sheikh Zakzaky stated that, though they are blinded by the obsession to kill, they should know that one day the table will turn against them. “Yes, they have guns and can kill people, as they have killer instinct in them. They should however know that gun does not rule. They should ponder over their continuous failures, and realize that there is a Supreme Force that rules over everything”.

He assured that at the end of the day the truth, which the Movement stands for, will emerge victorious.

Sheikh Zakzaky replies Colonel Benjamin

ZakzakyColonel L. Benjamin has written a letter inviting Sheikh Zakzaky to appear before his Military Board of Inquiry or send a representative. He is the chairman of the board.

The Sheikh sent a representation of Dr Abdullahi Danladi with three others to assist him. Also two human right activists followed them as observers. The sitting took place at Sabon Gari Local Government headquarters on Thursday 14 August 2014. It lasted for about four hours. Dr Danladi presented to the Colonel the Sheikh's reply to an earlier letter of invitation. It was read by all the four members of the military panel before commencing the sitting.

Sheikh Zakzaky's letter is self explanatory. It gave clear idea of the content of the colonel's earlier invitation. Here is the full text of the letter:

The Chairman 12th August, 2014
Board of Inquiry (BOI)
Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police
Sitting in Zaria
Dear Colonel,

Peace upon those who follow the guidance,

Re-Letter of Invitation

Your letter with above title is referred.

In it you invited me to either appear or send a representative to your board of inquiry “to unravel the circumstances that led to” what you called “exchange of fire” between soldiers and what you termed “followers of Shi’ah Islamic Sect” during a procession in Zaria!

Going through these lines it appears you have already written your report before making any inquiry. You have already concluded that there was an “exchange of fire” between two parties! On one part you have the soldiers and on another you have “followers” of a certain “sect”!

Please be informed that I do not believe in sect, I have never been a member or follower of a sect, I am not one and I will never ever be. Similarly all the thirty-three people murdered including my three undergraduate sons and over fourty injured are not followers of a sect. In none of my speeches or writings for the last fourty years one can deduce the idea of referring us to the idea of a sect. It will be mischief on the part of anyone to call us with names we do not call ourselves with.

As for International Quds Day celebrations participants cut across religions, faiths and ideologies. In Europe and the Americas participants include Muslims, Christian, Communists and even Jews including some Rabbis who support Palestine’s cause. In Nigeria Muslims and Christians including some pastors took part in the procession on 25th July 2014.

What took place in Zaria on that fateful day was a massacre by soldiers against citizens they were employed to protect. Anyone who attempts to cover up or justify the actions of these killer soldiers will be a partner in their crime.

While I do not expect you to be an umpire in investigating a crime committed by your colleagues in uniform, all the same, I am sending a representation of Dr Abdullahi Danladi, a University don, to be assisted by Sheikh Abdulhamid Bello, Chairman of Shuhada (Martyrs) Foundation, Dr Shuaibu Musa, a physician, and Barrister Bello Jahun, a legal practitioner.

I appreciate your kind regard and respect but I also expected a word of condolence.

Thanks.

Yours faithfully,

Ibraheem Zakzaky

Nigerian Army Writes Fake Security Report To Justify Killings—Zakzaky

by SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK

Aug 10, 2014

More than 35 Shiites, including the sheik’s three sons, were killed by soldiers in a series of attacks the sect said were unprovoked and unjustified. Members of the sect were carrying out a peaceful march to exhibit solidarity with the Palestinian people when Nigerian troops reportedly attacked them, killing men, women and children, including a nursing mother and her baby.

Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, the spiritual leader of a Shiite Islamic sect whose members were recently shot dead by Nigerian soldiers, has accused a Nigerian army officer of fabricating a security report in order to justify the killings.

In a statement obtained by SaharaReporters on Sunday, August 10, 14, Sheik Zakzaky described the ostensible army report as not only misleading but also a misrepresentation and cheap blackmail.

“In a bid to cover up the crime committed by the Nigerian soldiers on peaceful Quds Day Procession in Zaria in which the soldiers, under Lieutenant Colonel S.O. Okuh, killed over 35 people, the Depot HQ of [the] Nigerian Army sent a memo to the Nigerian Army HQ DIV1, on the Quds Day crime, with a copy sent to the office of Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

“The memo signed by Brigadier General B.A. Fiboiumama with Special SITREP No 04/14 and with title 'Religious Disturbance' states that:

‘AT ABOUT 251545A July 14 A ZARIA-BASED ISLAMIC CLERIC AND LDR OF SHIITE SHEIK EL ZAKZAKI AND HIS FOLLOWERS UNLAWFULLY ENGAGED IN AN ACT OF CIVIL DISTURBANCE WHILE PROTESTING ONGOING CONFLICT BETWEEN STATE OF ISRAEL AND PALESTINE. Describing the report as false, the sheik said, “From the above memo one can deduce that Depot HQ covered up the crime committed by the Nigerian soldiers in Zaria where they attacked and killed over 33 people during Quds Day Procession—a procession which has been taking place in Zaria and other cities for 32 consecutive years peacefully. The Army Depot accused whom they called 'Shiites' of civil disturbance—an accusation which is baseless for obvious reasons.

“The worst is the accusation that the 'Shiites' were carrying dangerous weapons and attacked civilians and even soldiers; they attempted to disarm some of the soldiers and the soldiers responded in self-defense by engaging them in exchange of gunfire! This type of allegation is the most unfortunate from the Nigerian Army. We think setting up an independent body to investigate the matter would be the best option. What is clear is that crimes against humanity and extra-judicial killings by the Nigerian soldiers [were] even recently labeled against [the] Nigerian Army by Amnesty International.”
