You can't know if it is true or false as a non-Muslim except you are Shia or Sunni.

It is like Pentecostal and Protestants calling Catholics idol worshippers. Or asking a Catholic about his views on Jehovah's Witness.

The Shia believe they are the true Muslims or the Muslims who have complete understanding of Islam and the Sunnah.

The Sunnis not only believe they are right, but that others too are wrong.

The point is we shouldn't be concerned with what people see as Quranic or not Quranic except if you really want a religious discussion to know the details. In that case, you should check the Islam board on nairaland. The Sunni and Shia are always having heated debates. You can even search the forum for older threads. People should be given the chance to choose.

Your question is filled with overwhelming ignorance. Nigerian's Muslims population is largely Mainstream Islam. Shias are a minority around 1 to 3% who you would find in various ethnicities.

There is nothing as mainstream Islam.

Sunni Islam was what your masters from the Middle East presented to you as "islam" not knowing it was only one side of the story presented to you. The Shia in the Middle East by that time were oppressed by the Sunni caliphate and had little contact with the wider world. So they couldn't have exported their own brand to you until recent when information became cheap thanks to the Internet and other means of communication.

Nasfat is not a type of Muslim. NASFAT is an organization. And it is Sunni. The IMN in the north is Shia organization. Many mistake the religion/sect/branch for the local organization. The IMN, Nasfat, ansarud deen, Izala are all organizations or groups belonging to an ideology or religion. Shia and Sunni are worldwide ideologies or two main branches of Islam. Just like redeem and Pentecostal, caritas and Catholics etc. IMN is only found in Nigeria. It's a local Shia group.

As for Yorubas, they are mostly Sunnis in practice with a sizeable Shia population. But majority hardly relate to these differences because they were sect blind. When Islam arrived Nigeria, it was the Sunni brand. With the happenings around the world especially the Middle East, it was of recent Nigerian Muslims got exposed to the ideas that there is another option in Islam. That the Islam they have been following and which was passed down to them (Sunni Islam) is only a version. It is one version. And there is another option or alternative which is Shia Islam. That is he rivalry between the two groups because if you follow one, you abandon the other and with no third choice in between. Even Ahmadiyyah is a sub sect of Sunni Islam. Even though excommunicated and most Sunnis see them as heretics.

Don't forget also that the extremist Sunnis known as Wahhabi with Saudi links see the Shia as heretics who can be killed. It's the same Wahhabi ideology that Isis, Boko, al shabab and every Sunni terrorist group share. If they don't target Shia, it is Christians. These bans are more or less to appease these extremist Sunnis and their ogas in saudi.

The Kaduna Government placed a ban on their activities, the Kano Government did the same thing, ditto Plateau State. So, my question is, what exactly about the Shiites scares everybody?are they the extreme wing of Islam?

they are scared at the spread of Shia Islam and how powerful and popular the IMN, the main Shia group in the north, is becoming. they are attracting millions. and that means less sheep for the emirs and other mallams or Sunni clerics. so their activities, such as processions, have to be curtailed.

The plateau state government has placed a ban on the activities of shiite muslims (also known as Islamic movement of Nigeria) in the state. The ban on shiites is coming after a clash between youths and some members of the sect in Angwan Rogo, Jos North.

The youths attacked the sect members while they were celebrating 'Ashura', a festival that commemorates the death of Prophet Muhammad's grandson. The husanniya (Worship building) of the sect was burnt down and destroyed by the youths.

State governor, Simon lalong, in a statement issued by his media assistant, Mr. Rufus Bature, said that the activities of the sect in the state could no longer be accepted, adding that the ban was necessary to maintain public peace.

it is the activities of the IMN (Islamic Movement in Nigeria) that have been banned. not that of Shiites. not all Shiites belong to the IMN in Nigeria. but the IMN is the main Shia group. take example Redeem is a Pentecostal group. NASFAT is a Sunni group. so the religion of Shiite or Shia is not banned. Shia is a worldwide religion or sect/branch of Islam. The IMN is a local group or organization of Nigerian Shia.

anyways, what is the rationale for a christian governor in northern Nigeria joining hands to persecute a Muslim minority? the same persecution that northern Christians complain of, a Christian governor is using the Shiites as punching bag. what a shame! and then when the Fulani/Hausa Sunni beat the hell out of his people in Jos, this same man involving himself in a**lic*ing oppression on the Shia will want others to sympathize with his people.

A takfiri sheikh from Sokoto state while rejoicing the murder of Shia Muslims in Nigeria’s north has bragged that the recent events were orchestrated by “under ground” works by “Sunni” takfiris linked with the Buhari government.

Jabir Sani Maihula is a lecturer at Sokoto State University.

What difference would it make to a Christian if a Muslim is Shia or Sunni? In fact most Christians would prefer the Shia because the world over I've never heard of a Shia suicide bomber attacking a church or people of other faiths. The Shia respect people of other faith. I've read and heard the Shia repeating severally that "man is either your brother in faith or your equal in humanity". That is a saying by their first Imam, Ali. Why would I not hold favorable view towards a people who value shared humanity? How many times have they been killed right here in Nigeria. Did they get crazy and starting senseless killings? Imagine if it was the other way and those killed were sunni Hausas. Just imagine.

It's obvious you know nothing about your religion. The Shia movement is the oldest movement within Islam and it was functional way before the "I dey mind my business type" of Muslims defined themselves as "Sunnis" or claiming indifference to the struggles against tyrannical caliphs the Shia were opposed to.

CDD condemns attack on Shiite

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has condemned Wednesday’s attack on members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) also known as the Shiite sect.

The Director of the centre Idayat Hassan said yesterday in statement that the clashes between the sect members, security agents and some Nigerians leading to scores being killed is unwarranted to prevent opening to another conflict front.

She said that among the reported reasons for the attacks was the commemoration of a religious rite called “Ashura”, which involves processional marches.

“Over the years, these processions have been done peacefully in many parts of the country. This year, however, there were concerted attempts by both security agencies and other Islamic groups to stop them.

The Order, which came into operation on 7th October, 2016 declares that: “the Society that bears the name, style, guise or nomenclature of the “Islamic Movement in Nigeria”, is hereby declared an Unlawful Society in Kaduna State.” Hassan said.

She said the new law by the Kaduna State Government has been a trigger that unleashed these attacks on members of the Shiite community across the country.

“It is estimated that there are about three million members of this religious community all over the country and it is very irresponsible for a State Government to proscribe their operations. One of the most dangerous acts is for members of a religious community to believe that their religious freedom to exercise their faith according to their belief is curtailed.

“It is important to note that the leader of the movement Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky has been in detention with his wife since December last year with no charges filed against them. His followers have been demanding for his release and the DSS has responded that they are holding him for his safety,” Hassan added.

She said that members of the IMN have however claimed that the government is trying to kill their leader.
“It appears that there is an attempt to push the Shiites in Nigeria to popular revolt. We have enough insurgencies and violent conflicts in Nigeria and the CDD appeals to authorities and the civil populace to beware of pushing our country to more violent conflicts

The same Nduka Obaigbena and his ThisDay newspaper that started the story accusing President Buhari as sponsor of Boko Haram with a fictitious caption, “Buhari: Military Offensive Is Anti-North,” is at it again quoting anonymous sources in the army allegedly trying to draw a link between the alleged kidnap of a colonel in Kaduna and the Islamic movement of Nigeria.

While the text of the article had nothing to imply what the caption was, Nduka Obaigbena put that particular fallacious caption to mislead the public and frame his person. NewsRescue debunked the caption at the time.

Nduka is doing it again in caption and story, distressingly, this time being hired by agents of the very Buhari he maligned.

ThisDay propagated the anti Islamic movement agenda tale thus:

Speaking to THISDAY, a reliable intelligence officer quoting a Presidential source, expressed concern that the kidnap might be a revenge mission by the Shiite Islamic sect against the Army over the clash in Zaria last year.

The source however assured that security and intelligence agencies are being mobilised to rescue the missing officer.

The IMN group has denied any connections and notified the public of this latest false flag attempt.

The tale in ThisDay was leading and predictive. It additionally predicted a tactical rescue: “assured that security and intelligence agencies are being mobilised to rescue the missing officer.” We can imagine this will be the way it will pan out.

The other unusual happening was the fact that the Military announced this kidnap. When 105 soldiers were killed and kidnapped by Boko Haram in Gudunbali, the military denied it. Suddenly the military is the one making the announcement. It is simply too suspicious. The additional fact of the reward publicized draws more suspicion to this incident as preplanned and a staged false flag event.

The public is advised to learn from the unscrupulous mischief and the destruction it brought to Buhari’s reputation int he past and deny such malicious campaigns their birth.

Under GEJ, an army vehicle was not able to pass through their procession and the shooting that ensued killed 34 IMN members, including three sons of Zakzaky. WHAT DID GEJ DO? GEJ carried a phone and offered a PERSONAL APOLOGY to the cleric like the gentleman he is. after the road incident, the army did not escalate and launch an attack on the cleric's house nor did they attack their worship building. why are you comparing oranges and apples?
