1. FACEBOOK
China turned out the lights on Facebook
( ) in 2009, and there are no signs that
Beijing plans to restore access to the U.S.-
based social media platform.
Some analysts trace the ban to riots that
broke out in July of that year between
Muslim Uighurs and Han Chinese in the
restive western region of Xinjiang.
But others also cite a protectionist
commercial motive.
China-based social media sites are allowed
to operate in the country, which helps to
promote the domestic tech industry. Still, these platforms are heavily censored. Domestic
operators accept this as a fact of life, while western tech firms are much less likely to give
up control.
2. FOREIGN FILMS
Chinese regulators allow only 34 foreign
films to be shown in theaters each year,
severely limiting access to the latest
Hollywood blockbusters.
Approved films still face the heavy hand of
government censors, who cut anything the
Communist Party considers offensive or
subversive.
Chinese audiences love the slimmed-down
foreign films, and Hollywood is eager for
regulators to expand their quota.
Despite the commercial advantage it gives
them, Chinese filmmakers are likely to continue to bump heads with Beijing over
censorship. China heaped praise on Taiwan-born director Ang Lee when he won the
Academy Award for Best Director in 2005. His film, Brokeback Mountain, was never shown
in China.
3. CASINOS
Beijing outlawed gambling in 1949, and
casinos are not allowed to operate in
China. Yet many Chinese have an
inclination toward games of chance, a
tradition that dates back thousands of
years.
Today, the blanket ban doesn't stop
entrepreneurial Chinese from setting up
underground gambling operations and
private lotteries.
The policy has also given rise to a ring of
casinos that operate just outside Beijing's
reach. The most notable of these territories
is Macau, which boasts a casino industry that is seven times larger than Las Vegas.
4. WEBSITES
Beijing blocks access to thousands of
websites at any given time, including
social media platforms and websites that
host pornography.
Censors also prohibit Internet users from
visiting sites that criticize the Communist
Party or address sensitive issues such as
human rights.
Search results and social media chatter are
also censored, forcing Internet users to
come up with a clever alternate language
to discuss news or historical events like
the Tiananmen Square protests and
crackdown.
The massive censorship project has been dubbed the Great Firewall of China, and using a
Virtual Private Network or secure proxy are the only ways to access forbidden websites
5. BOOKS
China's General Administration of Press
and Publication screens all books before
publication in China, and censorship is
standard procedure.
Critical talk regarding human rights, Tibet
or the Communist Party is off limits.
Reporting on the wealth of Chinese officials
is also forbidden.
Publishers that skirt the rules are quickly
shut down, leaving authors with a choice:
Agree to censorship or forfeit access to 1.4
billion potential readers.
Books are often smuggled into China from jurisdictions including Hong Kong, where
publishers enjoy more freedom. Bookstores in the city overflow with works on everything
from President Xi Jinping to the devastating Chinese famine that killed upwards of 45
million people during the Great Leap Forward.
6. SNAPCHATS
Facebook and Twitter aren't the only social
media platforms blocked in China. Chinese
users are unable to access Snapchat,
either.
Keeping western firms out has given
Chinese tech companies ample time to
develop their own networks.
A few of those homegrown platforms are
now flourishing.
Related: China tech companies on
spending spree
7. TWITTER
Change is afoot in China. Its leaders have
promised a decisive role for markets in the
huge economy, and a litany of economic
reforms are underway. But in many areas,
there's still a long way to go.
Try using Twitter ( ), for example. Too
bad!
The social media platform can't be
accessed from within the so-called Great
Firewall of China, a censorship project
operated for more than a decade by the
Communist Party.
Thousands of websites cannot be viewed inside China either, but social media platforms
draw special attention from censors.
8. GOOGLE
Gmail is the latest Google service to be
severely restricted by Chinese regulators.
Other Google ( , Tech30 ) offerings
including Search, Sites, Picasa and
YouTube are also currently disrupted,
according to the company.
Google has for years engaged in a running
battle with Beijing over censorship. In
2010, Google redirected search traffic from
Mainland China to its uncensored Hong
Kong arm and largely pulled out of the
market. The relationship has improved little
since then.
Determined users can still access Gmail using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), which for a
fee allow subscribers to circumvent the Great Firewall.
Meanwhile, homegrown streaming video sites Youku, Sohu and iQiyi are very popular in
China.

CultureA Thread For The Urhobo People Of Delta State. by Crownofwealth(op): 10:13pm On Dec 30, 2014
The Urhobos are people of southern Nigeria , near the northwestern Niger delta. The
Urhobo is the major ethnic group in Delta State. Delta State is one of the 36 states of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria . The Urhobos speak the Urhobo language . A language in the
Niger–Congo group . The Urhobo culture is related to several cultures in the Niger-Delta -
Isoko are related in language and culture, leading to the missionaries erroneously
labelling the Urhobo and Isoko cultural groups as Sobo. This name was strongly rejected
by both tribes. The Urhobo nation is made up of twenty two sub-groups, including Okpe[1]
the largest of all Urhobo sub-groups? (disputable). The Urhobos are noted for having their
own unique style of speaking Nigerian Pidgin English. Since their language is very
demonstrative that translates into their style of speaking English and Pidgin English. As a
result of their unique language style, their names are also unique. An example of a unique
Urhobo name would be the name Onaodowan, belonging to the Onaodowan family from
Warri and the Onomakpome, belonging to the Onomakpome family from Sapele.
The Urhobos live very close to and sometimes on the surface of the Niger river. Thus most
of their histories, mythologies, and philosophies are water-related. Annual fishing
festivals that includes masquerades, fishing, swimming contests, and dancing, are part of
the Urhobo heritage. There is an annual, two-day, Ohworu festival in Evwreni, the southern
part of the Urhobo area when the Ohworhu water spirit and the Eravwe Oganga are
displayed. The king in an Urhobo clan or kingdom is called the Ovie. His wife of the queen
is called Ovieya and his children Ọmọ Ovie (child of the king also known as prince and
princes). Precently, these names are also given to children without royal heritage. A
number of Urhobo cultural divisions, have other titles other than Ovie: the Okpe call their
traditional ruler "Orodje".
Before marriage in Urhobo culture is said to be properly contracted, prayers must be
offered to the ancestors( Erivwin) and God( Oghene). The marriage ritual known as Udi
Arhovwaje takes place in the ancestral home of the bride or a patrilineal relation of the
bride as agreed by the family.
As with most tribes in Nigeria, a certain food is considered to belong to or originate from a
particular tribe, for example, pounded yam and egusi soup from the Igbos, Eba ; and
Ogbono soup (made from Irvingia gabonensis and sometimes referred to as Ogbolo soup
by people of Esan or Etsakor descent). For the Urhobos there are two foods considered
Urhobo in nature. They are: Ukhodo (a yam and unripe plantain dish prepared with either
Beef, Poultry or fish and spiced with lemon grass and potash and "Oghwevwri (emulsified
palm oil soup)" (oghwo) and Starch (usi)(the actual name of this staple is not often used).
The starch is made from cassava plant. It is heated and stirred into a thick mound with
palm oil added to give the starch its unique orange-yellow colour. Oghwevwri is
composed of smoked or dried fish, bush meat, unique spices, potash and oil palm juice.
Other delicacies of the Uhrobo tribe are palm nut oil soup amiedi or banga soup, often
eaten with usi ("starch"wink and or garri. Banga is made from palm kernel. Other culinary
delicacies include Iriboto, Iriberhare, and Okpariku .
Urhobo notable people
Blessing Okagbare , IAAC Silver medalist and Olympic bronze medalist

GOVERNOR Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State was recently appointed Director-General of the
Buhari Campaign Organisation. At an interactive session, Amaechi among other things,
reels out plans of the campaign organisation and also clears the air on knotty issues.
Excerpts:
Why Jonathan is in trouble — Gov Amaechi
Says he didn’t fund Buhari’s campaign
By Dapo Akinrefon
IS it true you funded the Buhari campaign for the primaries?
I did not. Buhari did not spend money for the primaries. Anybody who said they spent
money should come forward with evidence. We have maintained consistently that Nigerians
would fund us and that is why we have launched our campaign we are hoping that people
will contribute. It is there on our website; you will just look at the account and go and
pay.
And we are making sure that we convince General Buhari to be the sole signatory to that
account. That is the way we would raise our money. We would not depend on rich men.
You can’t fight the president on funds. See how much he raised from people who some of
them collected the N2.3trillion on oil subsidy and are yet to pay back. If he is not
prosecuting them for oil subsidy, why shouldn’t they pay for his election?
Symbol of change
The president is trying to raise over N200 million for power and then those people he is
helping to raise the money are giving him N500million. We can’t fight the president with
money, we will fight him with the people. We will fight the president by telling Nigerians
that they have to vote for change and the symbol of change for us is the APC and General
Buhari. I will like to reiterate again that General Buhari did not pay anybody to vote for him
at the primaries and he won because Nigerians want change.
How do you intend to combine your duty as director-general of the APC presidential
campaign with your duties as governor?
We will try. That is why there is a deputy governor. I have a deputy who is efficient and I
will also from time to time go back to the state. But we need to deliver and we are all
making sacrifices ?to deliver this change. I don’t know how people feel. The president and
the federal government have not denied the fact that N2.3trillion was taken for oil subsidy
and that was six months in 2011.
Oil subsidy before that time was N300billion, so how did it rise to N2.3trillion and the
people are not afraid? The federal government and all its agents were not afraid that
N2.3trillion was taken. So, basically, I don’t mind what I can do legally to make sure that
there is a better Nigeria.
What about the controversy that you have not paid eight months salaries?
Anybody who said I have not paid him salaries should come forward. We have paid up till
December; you can call Rivers State to confirm. I got a Blackberry message on Tuesday,
saying; “Thank God, we are going home with our salary before Christmas.”
Payment of salaries
What we agreed in the cabinet was that we should make sure that everybody goes home
with his salary before Christmas because as a Christian, I know that December 23 and 24
are the two days that Christians like to shop. I do not owe salaries in Rivers State. I am
proud to say that I will pay salaries until I leave office and I will continue to pursue
development projects in the state.
I was even surprised that the president’s spokesman even put it in one of his statements
when he was responding to the accusation that the people who contributed to the
N21billion are those plundering our economy and he said after all, Governor Amaechi
funded the election of Buhari while he owes teachers eight months salary. And I asked the
question, for you to be a presidential spokesman, facts and statistics must be on your
palm; you shouldn’t joke with that. But the man was just reacting to gossip.
What are Buhari’s programmes for Nigeria if he wins the 2015 election?
The message is simple. Buhari chased away Maitasene while he was Head of State. Many
Nigerians will remember that Maitasine was like Boko Haram and they were killing people
in Borno and Kano and Buhari chased them away because he is a strong leader.
Strong leader
We need a strong leader now to chase away Boko Haram or it will chase us away. Buhari
will deal with insurgency because he has done that before. Many Nigerians would
remember that when Borno was attacked by Chadian rebels, Buhari as an officer of the
Nigerian Army almost chased them into Ndjamena. He had crossed the Lake Chad when
President Shehu Shagari called him back. If he didn’t do that, Borno would have been
overrun by Chadian rebels and till today Chad has never crossed into Nigeria to fight us. It
takes a strong leader to do that.
We will deal with insurgency. The country may be broke now because of two factors. The
first which is very critical is the diversion of funds at the NNPC. That is the greatest factor
for me. The level of diversion in the NNPC has affected everybody including me.
We will deal with power because if you don’t address it, you cannot tackle unemployment.
The essential factor for industrialisation from elementary economics is power.
So, when you hear that people in the power sector contributed N500 million for the
president’s re-election, where did they get it? First, you must pay your bill every month
whether you like it or not; whether you have power or not. People are now being forced to
pay N75 every month whether they use power or not. So, they are being punished for not
having power.
How do you respond to the claim by the PDP that Buhari is a semi-illiterate jackboot?
Our campaign will be issue-based. The president has a PhD in Zoology, how many farms
do we have and how many people has he employed? If you say the president has a PhD
and Buhari does not have one, let him show us his thesis. You are bringing yourself to the
level of those who are making those allegations. Don’t bring yourself to that level, remain
focused on the issues and let the president meet you there.
Many have defected from the PDP to the APC and as soon as they move they become
progressives. What exactly does the APC stand for and what is the ideology of the party?
How many people would say that when I was in the PDP, I wasn’t a progressive? Those
who left the PDP are the progressive wing of the party.
Please tell me what else I need to do to become a progressive. The ideology of
progressivism is about the people and I bother about them a lot. That is why there is free
education in my state which is not part of the PDP manifestoes. While in the PDP, I
introduced free education and health care. What else would I need to become a
progressive?
Those who studied at the University of Port-Harcourt will say that I have been a Marxist
from my university days till today. APC stands for a progressive ideology and you can see
that in our manifestoes.
What is the assurance that Buhari will win the presidential election?
The simple electoral arithmetic is that before the president had the South-south and
Southeast 100 percent, but now there are problems for the PDP in Cross Rivers, Akwa-
Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States. It wasn’t like that before.
By this time the PDP would have been dancing but have you seen them doing so? When
they were doing the Transformation Ambassador of Nigeria (TAN) rallies, I knew that it will
get to this point.
You have not seen the PDP dancing or doing any major campaign because there are
problems everywhere. There is problem within the party in Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia States.
So, it is no longer the same. The electoral map appears to have changed.
If we go to the north, does the APC have problems in Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa and Sokoto?
Did we have problem in Lagos State? No, it is the PDP that has problems in those states.
So the political map has changed and that is why I believe that by God’s grace, Buhari and
the APC will win. I am a Christian and I think positively.
I am not from the north; I am not from the south. I am a Nigerian. I don’t believe in
indigeneship, but in citizenship. Buhari will win the 2015 presidential election by God’s
grace and he will also win because the political map does not favour the president
anymore. In 2011, in the South-South and Southeast, we said he is our brother and now
we are saying he is no longer our brother.

Gambian soldiers launched a foiled coup bid in the capital Banjul overnight while
President Yahya Jammeh was abroad, military and diplomatic sources said Tuesday.
“The presidential palace was attacked very early this morning, at around 3:00 am (0300
GMT), by armed individuals of whom some came from the presidential guard,” a Gambian
diplomat said.
Army sources and residents of the city confirmed the report and said the attackers had
been driven back. Soldiers had prevented some civilians from going to work in the
morning, an AFP journalist said.
“They wanted to overthrow the regime,” a military source in the small west African country
told AFP, while a Western diplomat said a coup attempt has “apparently been foiled” by
loyal troops.
Jammeh has ruled over the largely rural country of some 1.8 million people since 1994,
when he seized power in a military coup himself, to be elected into office two years later.
Gambian officials said the president was on a private visit to Dubai, but foreign diplomats
said Jammeh was in France.

PORT HARCOURT— Former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, has said that he
regretted working for Governor Rotimi Amaechi to emerge governor of the state.
Odili, in Ndoni Local Government Area of the
state, at a campaign rally for the governorship
candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
Mr. Nyesom Wike, alleged that Governor Amaechi
dismantled structures that the founding fathers
of the PDP had in the state when he assumed
office.
He said: “We thought we did the right thing by
supporting Amaechi to become the governor of
the state. We left a united state. We also left a
united party. PDP was one. Rivers State is PDP.
There was no other party in Rivers State.
Whatever the party hierarchy said would happen,
that was what happened. The secretary is here
to confirm what I am telling you here today.
“With all the best intentions, we supported his political career and ambition. We thought
we did what was best for the state. As you know, until a man has power and has money,
you don’t really know him, but that is a story for the future. One thing is clear, we have
accepted our mistake and we are determined to correct it in 2015.
“Who would have thought that a governor who won an election on the platform of the PDP
would decamp with the mandate of the party to another party? Who would have thought
that a governor elected on the platform of the PDP would abandon the PDP to join an
opposition party?
“The elders of the party who are here can corroborate what I am saying here today. We ran
a cohesive party. We had respect for the elders of the party. We had respect for party
members. No one attempted to hijack the PDP because the party was bigger than anyone
no matter his or her position. Party officials were respected because the party was run
from the secretariat which was home to all members of the party
“I want to thank the governorship candidate of the PDP for the 2015 governorship election
and the next governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, for miraculously rescuing the party
from disintegration and working tirelessly to unite the members of the party. God will bless
you.
“By the special grace of God, in February, we are going to the polls. The first election is to
re-elect President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term. The second election will be the
governorship election where our candidate, Wike, will emerge as the next governor of
Rivers State.”

PoliticsNBA Wins Suit On Disputed Anti-money Laundering Provisions by Crownofwealth(op): 10:05am On Dec 22, 2014
The Nigerian Bar Association has won a suit challenging the enforcement of some aspects
of the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 dealing with legal
practitioners.
The suit was instituted before the Federal High Court in Abuja against the Attorney-
General of the Federation and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole in his judgment declared as invalid, unconstitutional and illegal
the directive by the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering that lawyers should
report to it certain transactions relating to their clients.
The directive was said to be hinged on the provisions of Section 5 of the Money
Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011.
The defendants in the suit are the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Central Bank
of Nigeria.
The court held its in judgment that sections 5 and 25 of the MLA sought to impose
sanctions on legal practitioners, who flouted the provisions contrary to the provisions of
the Legal Practitioners Act, the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, and
Section 192 of the Evidence Act.
In an originating summons dated March 15, 2013, the plaintiff had asked the court to
delete legal practitioners from the definition of Designated Non-Financial Institutions as
contained in Section 25 MLA.
The plaintiff had also sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the CBN from
seeking to implement its circular reference FPR/CIR/GEN/VOL.1/028 dated August 2, 2012
in relation to legal practitioners.
It had also sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the Federal Government,
acting through Special Control Unit against Money Laundering, the National Financial
Intelligence Unit, the EFCC or otherwise howsoever from seeking to enforce the provisions
of Section 5 of the MLA in relation to legal practitioners.
Justice Kolawole agreed with the NBA that the SCUML was not a juristic person, being the
creation of the Ministry of Trade and Commerce.
He added that even the Ministry of Trade and Commerce was also not a body known to
law, adding that the Federal Executive Council could not by a resolution confer on SCUML
a juristic personality.
He noted that there was no connection between the SCUML and legal practitioners, adding
that it was improper for the SCUML to seek to exercise oversight powers over the plaintiffs.
He further held that even if any oversight powers were to be conferred on any ministry, it
ought to have been the Ministry of Justice.
Justice Kolawole observed that the sanctions sought to be imposed on lawyers had
already made provisions for the manner in which a legal practitioner could be disciplined
where his conduct fell below the prescribed standards of the rules guiding the profession.
The court held that since the Minister of Trade and Commerce neither issued the Call to
Bar certificate nor entered the name of any legal practitioner in the Roll, he had no right to
disqualify any legal practitioner.
He also held that legal practitioners could not be categorised “traders” because they never
had “customers.”
The disputed Section 5 (1) of the MLA 2011 had read, “A Designated Non-Financial
Institution whose business involves the one of cash transaction shall (b) prior to any
transaction involving a sum exceeding US$1,000 or its equivalent, identify the customer by
requiring him to fill a standard data form and present his international passport, driving
licence, national identity card or such other document bearing his photograph as may be
prescribed by the ministry.”
Section 5(1)(c) directs all such DNFIs to “record all transactions under this section in
chronological order, indicating each customers surname, forenames and address in a
register numbered and forward to the ministry.”
The Central Bank of Nigeria had also in its Circular No. FPR/CIR/GEN/VOL.1/028 of 2nd
August, 2012, classified legal practitioners as DNFIs in line with the MLA.
The SCUML is an agency currently under the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment with
operational linkages to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The defendants had argued that the objective of the MLA and the SCUML was not to
monitor the legal practitioner but to monitor their clients who might have the potential to
commit crimes.

In my opinion, both are important. At Christmas, we celebrate His birth..and in Easter, we celebrate His ressurection. His ressurection wouldn't have happened if He hadn't been born as a man and crucified. That is why so much preparations were made prior to His birth.
Also, the purpose of His birth was to bring us salvation. The purpose was achieved when he died for us, defeated satan, who had the power of death, and brought salvation to us. His ressurection proves His victory over death, and strengthens our believe and faith in Him.
we knw all these.bt one question is.do u knw he cud have died without redeeming the world?

Christmas shouldn't be celebrated at all considering its origin
even at that.does that means that those who celebrate christmas today are pagan?
