CelebritiesMarlian Gang Now Winning More Souls Than Redeemed Church - Investigation by cuiz(op): 3:28pm On Feb 11, 2020
For so many years, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG),under the leadership of Pastor Enoch Adeboye used to be the fastest growing church in the country.

This is as a result of its philosophy of planting branches in all the nooks and crannies of the country. However, the effort appears to have reached its peak and now suffering from diminishing return. But Marlian gang, a group that is linked to the Nigerian rap act, Naira Marley appears to have step up to take over from where the church left.

The gang has now become something like a mass movement in the secondary and tertiary institutions in Lagos State and even beyond. By the way it is spreading like Australian fire, it is now you either fall in love or you fall in line and
nobody wants to be left out. Apart from the recent open declarations for the group by high profile celebrities like the Nigerian music queen Asa and Super Eagles and Lillie of France striker, Victor Osimhen, other celebrities are secretly admiring or throwing their weight behind the gang.

Irukkanews reporters visited some secondary schools and higher institutions in Lagos State for fact finding. At a secondary school located beside Isolo fly over bridge, students were seen on the assembly ground in the morning giving each other hi-five and saying the Marlian gang slogan,”ma fo” meaning “fear not” to one another in the presence of their teachers. The way a lot of the students were giving the hi-five and saying “ ma fo”,showed that Marlian gang is no doubt the most popular movement in the school.

At the Lagos State Polytrechnic Isolo, the presence of Marlian gang was so dominant that one can easily feel it.
Many of the students there were also greeting one another with the Marlian gang slogan. A student who agreed to speak to Irukkanews said that Naira Marley is the voice of the voiceless in the country and the defender of the oppressed.

According to him, the youths in Nigeria need to emulate the rap artiste`s courage and outspokenness. He said that the Marlian gang would one day become so strong that it would force the corrupt government out of the country.
On the import of the slogan “ ma fo”,he said that it came from the Bible. According to him, God told his people to fear not the devices of the wicked.

TV/MoviesLegend Of Inikpi Becomes Nollywood’s Biggest Epic Film In Cinemas by cuiz(op): 3:04pm On Feb 11, 2020
Mercy Johnson Okojie’s production debut ‘The Legend of Inikpi’ has recently set a new record for Nollywood’s biggest epic film at the cinemas.

Almost hitting the N20 million naira mark in its 2nd week, the movie is poised to beat the ‘Nollywood epic’ jinx in Nigerian cinemas. Nollywood Epic movies perform poorly in comparison to all others in Nigerian cinemas. The record for highest grossing Nollywood epic was previously held by Emem Isong’s 2016 film, ‘Ayamma’ which grossed a total of approximately 16 million naira at the box office after several weeks.

Interestingly, ‘The Legend of Inikpi’ also holds till date the biggest Nollywood opening weekend of 2020 grossing 7.4 million naira while screening in just 44 cinemas. The producer who maintains that telling Nigerian stories is her mandate was excited to break the news on Instagram.

“The first reaction to my film was a rude awakening; ‘epic movies don’t sell in Nigerian cinemas’ Honestly, I was terrified when I saw statistics on statistics… I’m humbled to see the love that #TheLegendofInikpi has received in its first week, It’s not the regular blockbuster figures of course but most importantly, it’s a strong validation that we should tell our stories and the people will come and watch them’’

The Legend of Inikpi tells the true story of an Igala princess (Inikpi) who gives her life for the freedom of her people. It features a stellar cast of Nollywood’s finest including Mercy Johnson Okojie, Sam Dede, Odunlade Adekola, Saidi Balogun and newbie Nancy Ameh. The Legend of Inikpi is currently showing in cinemas in Nigeria and Ghana.

Family13-year-old Girl Pregnant For 10-year-old Boyfriend by cuiz(op): 12:18pm On Feb 07, 2020
A 13-year-old pregnant Russian girl who admits that the father of her unborn child is a 10-year-old boy has become popular following news of her pregnancy.

The schoolgirl and mum-to-be is now looking for sponsors so she can become an online influencer. Local media said the girl is trying to monetise her social media accounts and is willing to work with famous brands and sponsors.

According to reports. the teen, who lives in Siberian town Zheleznogorsk, is in her seventh grade while the 10-year-old who is reportedly the boyfriend and father of her child is still in fourth. She was only 13 when she fell pregnant but the girl, who was initially identified as Daria "Dasha" Rubchinskaya but later as Daria "Dasha" Sudnishnikova, has recently turned 14.

Ever since the story of her pregnancy made headlines around the world, Daria has been using her new-found fame to build up a following on social networks. She's been sharing snaps and video clips and has been including the hashtag "Pregnant at 13" on her posts.

Daria's mother Elena reportedly has terminal cancer, but says she is determined to overcome the disease in order to be there for her pregnant daughter.

She said:

"Initially, we thought she had food poisoning, but slowly we started to realise that whatever was happening had nothing to do with her belly. We then bought a pregnancy test and it showed up positive."

Elena said that she never considered making her teen daughter have an abortion because she would be concerned that she would not be able to have children in later life.

Elena also added that, despite her terminal-stage cancer, she plans to stay around as long as possible in order to take care of the baby in the future, adding: "Now I have a reason to live."

HealthRe: Chinese Doctor Who Blew Whistle On Outbreak Of Coronavirus Dies Of The Virus by cuiz(op): 10:37am On Feb 07, 2020
So Sad
HealthChinese Doctor Who Blew Whistle On Outbreak Of Coronavirus Dies Of The Virus by cuiz(op): 10:37am On Feb 07, 2020
A Wuhan hospital says a Chinese doctor who blew the whistle on the outbreak of coronavirus only to be reprimanded by police has died from the virus, amid confusion over earlier reports of his death and then resuscitation.

Li Wenliang, 34, was one of eight whistleblowers who tried to warn other medical workers of the outbreak, but was accused of spreading fake information by local police, according to the state-run Global Times local police. Global Times first reported Dr Li's death on Thursday evening, but later published a report from Wuhan Central Hospital that said his heart had stopped beating at 9:30pm (local time) and he was given resuscitation treatment and was in a critical condition.

This morning, the hospital confirmed on Chinese social media site Weibo that Dr Li had died. The initial reports of Dr Li's death triggered a huge response on Chinese social media. (Weibo)© Provided by ABC Health The initial reports of Dr Li's death triggered a huge response on Chinese social media. (Weibo)

"We deeply regret and mourn the death of Li Wenliang, an ophthalmologist in our hospital," the hospital said.

"He died at 2:58am on February 7, 2020, after failing to be fully rescued."

The BBC reported that official media outlets had been told to change their earlier death reports to say the doctor was still being treated, but later reported the new time of his death on Friday.

The number of people infected globally has risen to 30,877, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins this morning. More than 30,600 of those cases are in China.

The death toll stands at 636 worldwide, 634 of them in mainland China. The Philippines and Hong Kong have each reported one death.

Dr Li's warnings;

Dr Li sent a message to medical staff advising them to wear masks and protection to avoid infection after he noticed several patients presenting with a virus similar to the deadly SARS epidemic.

Days later, he was summoned by police and told to sign a letter that accused him of "making false comments" and spreading rumours.

He posted that letter to Weibo in late January, the BBC reported.

"We solemnly warn you: If you keep being stubborn, with such impertinence, and continue this illegal activity, you will be brought to justice — is that understood?"

Underneath, in Dr Li's handwriting, the words "Yes, I do" are written.

Dr Li said he was diagnosed with the coronavirus on January 20. Global Times said media reports said his pregnant wife was not in a good condition, and that Dr Li had told other media outlets that "as the coronavirus continues to spread, I don't want to leave. I'll work on the frontline when I recover".

China has been accused of suppressing information about the coronavirus, including reprimanding doctors, fuelling concerns Beijing is engaging in a cover-up.

Chinese President Xi Jinping declared a "people's war" on Thursday (local time) against the fast-spreading coronavirus whose impact has been felt around the world from slowing factory floors to quarantined cruise liners.

"The whole country has responded with all its strength to respond with the most thorough and strict prevention and control measures, starting a people's war for epidemic prevention and control," Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying in a telephone call with Saudi Arabia's King Salman.

Health officials in the United States and China want to get a vaccine to initial human testing within months, but drugmakers have cautioned they have a long way to go.

"There are no known effective therapeutics," WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said, when asked about reports of "breakthroughs" that boosted markets on Wednesday (local time).

China's National Health Commission said the HIV drug lopinavir/ritonavir could be used for coronavirus patients, without specifying how. That triggered a rush for the HIV drug.

'National grief' over doctor's death
The initial reports of Dr Li's death triggered a huge response on Chinese social media.

"Hero RIP" posted one user named Godfrey on Weibo.

"May there be no lies in heaven, RIP," a user named Weichujidemeng wrote.

"This is a big moment in China. I've never seen so much raw emotion on WeChat from so many," posted S_Rabinovictch on Twitter.

"An outpouring of grief over the death of Li Wenliang and tributes to his courage, mixed with seething anger at what can only be described as the system."

The People's Daily sent out a tweet saying Dr Li's death had sparked "national grief" and Global Times praised Dr Li as "the first to sound the alarm".

But at the beginning of the outbreak, Chinese media had quoted police saying he was spreading misinformation.

"I'm really starting to be disappointed with the country," user Xiaosahnyang said.

"The state media have lost their credibility once again, and freedom of speech does not exist."

By mid-morning on Friday, many posts relating to Dr Li's death were censored on Chinese social media, but tributes continued to circulate on Twitter.

Sadness and anger over his death were also felt by members of the Chinese community in Australia.

"I couldn't sleep last night. I was extremely sad watching the news," Gilbert Li, a Sydney resident who was originally from Hubei — the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak — told the ABC.

"I'm angry that the outbreak could've been curbed from the start when he spoke out."

Technology MarketGetting The Right Sound Equipment by cuiz(op): 10:07am On Feb 06, 2020
Buying the right sound/studio equipment is often difficult owing to the fact that the sound and musical instrument market in Nigeria have been marred by so many fakes that it is almost impossible to differentiate which is which, this causes most consumers who barely have basic knowledge of what audio equipment they intend to buy (Even those who know) easily become prey to fake dealers who rip them off their money.

The Nigeria in the country is a very dynamic one and has over the years grown into full demand and supply, giving room for new manufacturers to consider Nigeria as a market choice while the old ones continue to expand their reach as they compete for dominance in certain professional sound equipment.

There are several brands as well as importers who make available this professional audio/studio equipment for consumers alike, ranging from churches, Disc jokers, recording studios, malls, lounges, artistes, night clubs, hotels, rentals… etc

Most of these consumers often time plunge into the hand of fake dealers, and the bad experience, in the long run, leaving doubts in their minds after their trust have been marred by substandard and fake products which were gotten mostly on high price and sometimes low prices. Though, some of which are on low prices to lure consumers off their money in exchange for the fake they offer.

As earlier stated, buying a speaker in Nigeria is very tricky and one of the ways to avoid falling a victim to fake products is to first know the brand that you want to go for. No matter the range and size of speakers you intend to get for your usage, you should first make research and know what brand sounds better but also have a presence (i.e have an office. For example, if you are looking at buying Wharfedale speakers, even though Wharfedale has offices in Nigeria, China makes are surplus in the market so it’s advisable to visit the UK Wharfedale pro website, make a contact with them or you check the distributors list to be certain on where you could find the right Wharfedale Speakers.

For digital mixers, this depends on the channels, then the brands, you don’t have to follow the crowd but the best serving brand, and where to locate a trusted seller/distributor. With the availability of top digital mixer brands in the country, it is advised to know these top brands are quite on the high side so are their fakes. For Presonus digital mixers Irukka sound equipment store is the only distributor in the country, which also offers enlightenment in brand differences letting you see why you should undoubtedly choose what’s right for you.

Lagosians have called on the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to provide more buses to help to cushion the biting effect of the ban on Okada and keke.

Irukkanews had earlier reported that Lagos State government had deployed 65 buses to major routes across the state. The buses are to operate along Ikeja – Ogba, route; Berger – Ogba; Ikeja – CMS and Oshodi – Ajah corridor. Other routes to be covered include Obalende – Ajah; CMS – Ajah and Inner Marina – Ajah. Lagosians who spoke with irukkanews said that the 65 that the state government provided earlier did nothing to ameliorate the suffering that they are going through at the moment. They said that at the moment going round Ikeja has become a herculean task.

According to them, government should provide buses that would be running along major streets like Adeniyi i Jones, Oregun and the Government Reserved Areas(GRA). Nicholas Omeife told irukkanews that since the ban on Okada and Keke, he has been trekking from Ikeja Local government to Adeniyi where his office is located.

According to him, the situation is becoming unbearable to a lot of people whose offices are located along the route.

“I am living at Igando and working at Adeniyi Jones. Before, if I get to Ikeja alone, I will alight, cross and walk into the council and then board keke to Adeniyi Jones. But since the ban, I have been trekking and now it is telling on me. So, I am appealing to the governor to provide buses that would be running from Ikeja local government to Adeniyi Jones.”

The ban on okada by Lagos State government which witnessed total compliance on Monday appeared
to have broken down.

An irukkanews reporter who went round the major roads today Tuesday observed that unlike yesterday,
okada riders are back to the roads. Yestreday, okada riders that normally convey passengers from Okokomaiko to mile two were nowhere to be seen, but this morning, they were seen in their numbers coming like locusts with passengers from okokomaiko to Lagos international trade fair complex and from there to mile two.

The same situation was also witnessed at mile two oke,Oshodi-Apapa road. Yesterday, the mile two end of Oshodi Apapa road, which usually have conveyance of okada was empty. However, today they are back to business, conveying passengers from there to Tin can port and inside Apapa.

Okada riders who spoke to irukkanews said that they are helping to alleviate the suffering of the masses. according to them, yesterday, most people who work at Tin can did not go to work because there was no means of conveying them there. They said that from West Minster to Tin can is not motorable, adding that it is only motorcycles that can go there.

An okada rider told irukkanews thus:

“My brother, government did not make any alternative arrangement before banning okada. Most of the roads in Lagos are not motorable. It is only okada that can go through the roads. Yesterday, most of the workers at Apapa and Tin can did not go to work because petrol tankers blocked the whole road. Nobody takes his car to Apapa .Even today, passengers are the ones that begged us to help them to their work places. So, government should do the needful before taking this kind of decision”.

A clearing agent at Tin Can collaborated the view of the okada rider, according to him, for the past three years, he had not taken his car to his work place because tanker drivers blocked every part of the road. He said that without okada, there is no way anybody can go to Apapa.

According to him, Lagos State government should have fixed the roads and clear Apapa of trailers and
tankers before banning okada.

“ What I can say is that okada is a necessary evil. I don’t like them but I cannot do without them.
Government should have exempted the roads that are under reconstruction''.

Christianity EtcUS Travel Ban: See Why US Embassy Denied Bishop Oyedepo Visa by cuiz(op): 11:57am On Jan 31, 2020
The Travel ban instituted by the Trump administration which has extended Nigeria is to set affect everyone as the founder of the Faith Tabernacle and Winner's Chapel has been denied US Visa.

This has caused a stir in the entertainment industry and the Christian community, as they wondered why the comedian would be granted a US Visa and the founder of the biggest churches in Nigeria was denied the US Visa.

According to Aubrey Hruby, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center who spoke to Tech Crunch about the Visa bans, said;

“I’ve spoken to several people in the US government close to the matter who’ve indicated visa restrictions being discussed are also coming from concerns that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria and within the broader context of the administration using visa rules as tools of foreign policy,”

“If this is the case, and they go forward with a ban, the administration could be overlooking the deep cultural and commercial ties that exist between the U.S. and Nigeria, and how much restricting travel could disrupt them,” she added

CultureA Place In Africa Where They Don't Take Their Bath, But Still Look Beautiful by cuiz(op): 4:55pm On Jan 30, 2020
Africa is still considered a third world, and although most of its cities are joining the global village, some are still holding back. Today, we take you to the Southern part of Africa — Namibia, precisely.

One example is Himba people. They live in the Kunene region of Namibia. These people have cultures that members of the first world might frown upon. They live in isolation, away from external contacts. They sleep with their guests for free, and they lace their children's neck with heavy beads. Polygamy is also highly encouraged. These people mostly worship their old gods.

One of the most astonishing things about them is that they don't take their baths. But this is largely due to the harsh climatic condition in their desert region and the unavailability of water. Black is beautiful, right? The women are beautiful regardless. They maintain personal hygiene by applying red ochre on their skins and smoking themselves. They do this by dropping a charcoal in a bowl filled with herbs, they bend over it and the heat causes them to sweat thereby washing their body.Even though they don't want people to interfere with their culture, they are friendly to visitors.

CrimeCanadian Lady Threatens Nigerian Police by cuiz(op): 11:24am On Jan 29, 2020
A Canadian lady has called out the Nigerian Police for assaulting her husband after they allegedly called him a kidnapper at the Cele area of Lagos State.

She disclosed that the Police officer who wore black jackets with an “anti cultism” inscription, with no names, no badges, and no ID smashed the husband's phone when he tried making a call. She also added that the husband has been badly injured and could barely walk.

The Canadian lady wrote;

"This will NOT be the last I speak about this, this will not be all that I do. Mark my words @nigerianpolice @nigeriapoliceforce , I will be in contact, and you will be so SORRY you even laid a hand on my husband. This happened in cele, at the abandoned police station just across the bridge.. He was put into a white van, with officers who wore black jackets with write ups saying “anti cultism”. NO names, NO badges.NO ID.

There was about 15 other men in this truck before they had thrown my husband into the back. Men that were beaten and begging for their lives. When he got there, he saw about 40 other men, who were there before him, that they picked up randomly on the sides of the roads. These men were obviously beaten, and not being taken care of, and treated worse then animals. When my husband tried to make a phone call out to his brother, who is a lawyer, the officers threatened to kill him, and smashed the cell phone in use, and beat him and his cell mate.

The cells had feces, urine and rats roaming around. The officers said that they would kill him, and label him as a kidnapped, or highway robber! These other men, faceless men, who may not have funds, family, or the means to save themselves against these dangerous people the Nigerians call “the police”. My husband now, who can barely walk, was LUCKY compared to some of these other victims, but he is physically and mentally struggling.

This is a huge danger, and a huge step back in the world! Nigeria you need to be holding these men accountable, and holding your country accountable for the danger you are putting your people in! Many people died, and NO-ONE is speaking to get the justice, so here I AM NIGERIA, in front if anyone who will listen, in front of the LORD, HERE I Am. A change will be made if it’s the last thing I do!"

Foreign AffairsMichelle Obama Wins Big At The Grammy's Award by cuiz(op): 3:06pm On Jan 28, 2020
Her win on Sunday gives the Obama household its third Grammy. The former first lady can now add Grammy winner to her resume, after snagging the award on music’s biggest night for Best Spoken Word Album, for the audiobook of her memoir “Becoming". Former President Barack Obama has already snagged two Grammys in the same category for his books.

She faced an eccentric group of rivals that include Michael Diamond and Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys for “Beastie Boys Book” and John Waters, the director-performer known for his transgressive cult films, for “Mr. Know-It-All."

Released in late 2018, “Becoming” saw the former first lady slam President Donald Trump for questioning her husband’s citizenship and promoting the notion that he was born abroad.

"The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed,” Obama wrote.

America’s first black first lady also dug into her personal life in her book, expounding on issues including a miscarriage, using in-vitro fertilization to conceive her daughters and marriage counseling.
