Nigerian student, Badmus Ololade Rafiat in Ternopil State Medical University in Ukraine has committed suicide after she was expelled from the school for failing to pass the mock exam ahead of her final MBBS.

Following her death, the school mourned her and put up a notice on a wall in the school with her photo. They expressed their condolences to her friends and family. The school added that she killed herself because she was depressed and suicidal.

Deceased friend, Pemisire, however, has planned a protest as she said the deceased wasn't suicidal or depressed as the school claim. They said she was only frustrated at having to start all over again after studying up to her 6th year in medical school.

Friends of Pemisire blame the school authorities and they have planned a meeting to protest the alleged unfair treatment that caused her to take her life.

"Lets meet in Centre @ 12pm," a notice sent out by Nigerian students in the school reads.

A 10-year old boy is on the wanted list of the Ugandan Police for allegedly stabbing a 16-year old boy for having an affair with his 11-year old girlfriend.

The suspect is a pupil of Buwali Primary School and resident of Bunamubi trading center in Bunamubi Parish in Bukiqai Sub Country. He is reportedly on the run with his father.

Police identified the victim as Sam Watsosi, 16. Watsosi was allegedly stabbed with a knife below the naval area on Sunday on suspicion that he was dating the suspect’s longtime girlfriend.

After the incident, which happened at the Bunamubi trading center in Bunamubi Parish in Bukigai Sub County, Watsosi was rushed to Bududa hospital bleeding profusely.

Watsosi who was a senior two student at Bulucheke Secondary School in Bududa District died on Monday. The body is still at the hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.

Bududa District Police Commander (DPC) Mr. Jaffar Magyezi, confirmed the incident on Wednesday morning and said they were hunting for the suspect.

“We are hunting for the pupil, who is currently on the run with his father following the death his colleague,” he said.

There’s high tension in the area as the relatives of the deceased threatening to attack the family of the suspect in retaliation.

However, Mr. Maggyezi asked Watsosi’s family to exercise restraint, saying the suspect will be apprehended and charged with murder in court.

Mr. Charles Mutabali Kibeti, the LCIII chairperson of Bunamubi trading center, described the incident as regrettable.”

“It was an unfortunate incident but we request the relatives of the deceased to refrain from seeking for revenge,” he said.

The LCIII chairperson, Bukigai Sub-county, said the incident was a sign of moral decay in the community.

“It is very surprising that a 10-year-old boy can have a girlfriend, whom he is willing to do anything to protect at such a tender age,” he said

President Muhammed Buhari has approved the Financial Transparency Policy, which mandates the publication of Public Financial Information through an Open Treasury Portal, in line with the Nigeria Government’s determination to enthrone transparency and accountability in public financial management.

According to the Presidency, the Transparency Policy mandates the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), and all Nigerian Government accounting Officers to publish daily reports of payments of least 10 Million Naira, while all MDAs must publish payments above 5 Million Naira of all public funds under their purview, Irukka news reports.

The Policy also directs that all Nigeria Government’s MDAs must publish:

Monthly Budget Performance Reports, which must be ready within 7 days after the end of each month.

Monthly Fiscal Accounts detailing Fiscal Performance of Nigeria Government within 14 days after the end of each month.

The Policy also requires the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) and all Accounting Officers of MDAs to publish Quarterly Financial Statements for Nigeria Government as a whole and for individual MDAs respectively.

The Policy requires the AGF to publish Annual General Purpose Financial Statement, while all Public Sector Entities are required to publish for their individual entities.

These statements must be prepared following the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).

A union of civil society organizations has petitioned the United States to protect the rearrest of the convener of the #RevolutionNow protests, Omoyele Sowore, by armed operatives of the Department of State Services at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The group during a protest to the US embassy in Abuja forwarded a petition to the American government urging it to place a visa ban on the Director-General of the DSS, Yusuf Bichi; the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and their families.

The representatives of the groups included the Coordinator, Free Nigeria Movement, Raphael Adebayo; the Secretary, United Action for Democracy, Kunle Ajayi; Juwon Sanyaolu of Take It Back Movement; and Coordinator, Coalition In Defence of Nigeria and Constitution, Dare Ariyo-Atoye.

Adebayo, who spoke on behalf of the groups said,

“The latest arrest of Sowore, which happened within the precinct of court, and which was led by gun-wielding officers of the DSS who stormed the court with an apparent resolve to stop at nothing to effect the re-arrest of Sowore, typifies the disturbing fact that the rule of law and human rights have become victims of executive despotism in Nigeria.”

The groups highlighted the “strong” condemnation of Sowore’s detention and the violation of his basic and constitutionally guaranteed rights by the US Department of State on Democracy, Human Rights, and Labour and Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey.

They, however, expressed the belief that the US could do more, citing its strategic role in ensuring that democracy was not undermined in Nigeria by anti-democratic and fascistic elements within the country.

They added;

“We, therefore, request in the best interest of Nigeria’s Democracy, that a visa-ban be imposed on the Director-General of the DSS, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, and his immediate family, for undermining Nigeria’s democracy.

“We also request that a visa-ban be imposed on the Attorney General of the Federation in Nigeria, Abubakar Malami, and his immediate family, considering his eerily suspicious silence in the face of the desecration of rule of law and violation of human rights by the DSS in Nigeria.

“Equally, we urge the US to impose as many other sanctions as deemed necessary on Nigeria, to demonstrate its commitment to the rule of law and human rights in Nigeria.”

While describing the role of the US in sustaining democratic ideals and values in Nigeria as inestimably immense, the activists expressed the hope that it would continue to defend the fundamental freedoms and rights of Nigerians.
