Politics / At Least One Million Traders Have Benefited From Tradermoni – Osinbajo by cute9ja: 8:52pm On Nov 15, 2018 |
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that no fewer than one million traders have already benefited from the TraderMoni Scheme of the Federal Government. “The first phase of the TraderMoni was targeted at two million petty traders across the country, but over a million have today benefited from the scheme,” the News Agency of Nigeria quoted Osinbajo as saying. Osinbajo was in Bodija and Oje markets in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Thursday, during which he introduced the TraderMoni Scheme of the Federal Government to the traders. He was accompanied by Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, alongside other government officials. According to the Federal Government, the TraderMoni is a collateral-free loan that ranges from N10,000 to N50,000, depending on how well the borrowers are able to make repayments. All petty traders and artisans in Nigeria are eligible to access the loan, government said. Osinbajo said, “We have observed that nobody wants to give these traders credit because lenders believe they won’t pay back. “The market traders represented the most significant percentage of those who engage in commercial activities. “Both the TraderMoni and the MarketMoni schemes seeks to address that large population or persons involved in commercial activities who usually don’t have access to credit.” Some of the traders, who spoke to NAN at the markets, lauded the initiative of the Federal Government. The Babaloja of Oje market, Mr. Saliu Delesolu, lauded the Federal Government for initiating the programme, saying it would enhance petty trading. “This is the first time a government in this country will be extending credit facility to petty traders. We appreciate this and thank President Muhammadu Buhari for this. “We assure our members that the money would go round. Not everybody could benefit from it at once but we have been assured that the programme will be institutionalised,” he said. A petty trader, Mrs. Olajumoke Ajao, also corroborated Delesolu’s claim, saying the government must be commended for the gesture. Politics / Plenty Stolen Money Still Stashed Away Abroad – Buhari Laments by cute9ja: 8:03am On Nov 13, 2018 |
President Muhammadu Buhari again on Monday said the country’s stolen money was still stashed away in major European cities, the US and other havens around the globe. He noted that the bulk of the stolen money could have been invested in the education sector to improve on quality, blaming the elite for allegedly looking the other way while the theft took place. Buhari spoke in Paris during an interactive session with the Nigerian community in France. The President observed that the five per cent of Nigeria’s budget currently spent on education was inadequate and far off the 26 per cent recommended by the United Nations. However, he assured his audience that his administration would spend more on education to cover lost ground. The President added that a similar commitment to improving roads and rail lines was already yielding positive results. A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, quoted Buhari as saying, “We are currently reviewing investments in the entire infrastructure of the country like road, rail and power, including investing more in education. We will certainly need to do more in education. My frustration is that some people still have plenty stolen money stashed away in Europe, US and other countries.’’ Buhari seized the opportunity to appeal to the elite both at home and in the Diaspora to help in rescuing the education sector by contributing to support the government. It can be recalled that Buhari proposed N496.9bn for education in 2018, but it was later raised to N541.2bn by the National Assembly. Incidentally, the budget was later cut as part of the virement for the Independent National Electoral Commission to prepare for the 2019 polls. In Paris, the President said the war against terrorism would be reinforced with procurement of additional weapons and hardware for the military. He stated that kidnapping and other violent crimes would also receive more attention. “We campaigned on three key issues – security, improving the economy, and fighting corruption – and we have not been controverted by anyone that we have not recorded some results,” the statement further quoted Buhari. Buhari also spoke on Diaspora voting, assuring Nigerians living abroad that it could happen in the near future but certainly not in 2019. The country’s Ambassador to France, Dr. Modupe Enitan-Irele, had earlier informed the President that Nigerians living in France were law abiding and responsible. The ambassador said, “Nigerians here are law abiding, peaceful and resourceful.” The Governor of Anambra State, Mr Willie Obiano; Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; and the Governor of Katsina State, Mr Aminu Masari, attended the session, which was facilitated by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa. It's not bribe, it's a scheme that has been going on for a while now, it's called 'TraderMoni' and thousands of market women nationwide have benefited from it. Nobody can survive with 10k, yes. Politics / Buhari Govt’s Prudent Management Of Resources Has Boosted Development – Osinbajo by cute9ja: 11:55am On Nov 12, 2018 |
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has stated that prudent management of resources by the Buhari administration has helped it achieve far more in terms of infrastructure and development than previous administrations. Prof. Osinbajo stated this at a public lecture organized by the Council of Chief of Imams, Ikeja Division in Lagos on Saturday. The Vice President also stated the determination of the administration in its fight against corruption, noting that it was a major challenge which had slowed the country’s development in the past. He added that the Buhari administration has spent over N2.7 trillion on capital expenditure in the last three years, pointing out that it is the highest amount ever spent on capital project in the history of Nigeria. The Vice President listed some of the infrastructure projects to include, among others, the Lagos-Kano Standard Gauge Railway, the Lagos-Ibadan Dual Carriageway and the Second Niger Bridge. According to Prof. Osinbajo, the Buhari administration has been able to achieve this through prudent management of resources, despite earning 60% revenue less than the previous administration when the price of crude oil was high. “Despite earning 60% less revenue, we are spending more on infrastructure in this government, from roads, rails to power,” he said. The Vice President also said that components of the administration’s Social Investment Programme have impacted the lives of millions of Nigerians. He adds, “If the N60 billion that was part of the sum looted from the nation’s treasury in the past, was given out to these traders, 6m petty traders would have been beneficiaries.” Prof. Osinbajo said at the inception of the administration, over 23 states in Nigeria owed salaries of between three to 12 months, which necessitated the Federal Government giving the states bailout funds to pay their workers. He said the Buhari administration was also confronted with the drop in Nigeria’s crude oil production of 2.2 million bpd, coming down to around 1 million bpd as a result of the restiveness in the Niger Delta Region. Speaking further, the Vice President stated that the struggle in Nigeria is that between good and evil, and not between religions. “I want to say to you that it’s a battle between good and evil. What we are fighting for in this country is a battle between good and evil, it is not a battle between religions. Corruption is our major challenge. The people that steal Nigeria’s resources are both Christians and Muslims,” he said. SOURCE - http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/11/buhari-govts-prudent-management-of.html

Politics / Search Of Atiku’s Aircraft A Normal Routine Exercise In Airports - FG by cute9ja: 9:08pm On Nov 11, 2018 |
The Federal Government on Sunday said the search on the aircraft of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, at the Abuja airport was a routine exercise that applied to all international arrivals. The Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja. Sirika said while it was true that the Task Force on Currency at the airport did the routine action of checking the former Vice President’s travel bag, he was accorded full respect as a senior citizen. He described the checks as mandatory, conventional, internationally applied and routine, adding that no one is excused from them under the nation’s laws. While urging law-abiding citizens to respect the laws of the country, Sirika advised prominent Nigerians not to seek to be treated over and above the citizens they wish to serve. The minister claimed that the public outcry that followed the routine exercise was a mischievous attempt to grab headlines. The statement read, “This is a mischievous attempt to grab the headlines. Nigerians need to know that one of the resolutions of the Atiku team at their recently-concluded, opulently-held Dubai retreat was to embark on scaremongering. This is one of such. “For the records, all incoming passengers on international flights go through customs, immigration, health and security screening. “Where the aircraft is using the private, charter wing, as the PDP candidate did, such arrivals are met by a team of the immigration, customs and other security agencies. They go to the arriving aircraft as a team. “The airport authorities confirm that this is a routine process, applying to all international arrivals, including the minister unless the passenger is the President of Nigeria. The President, the Vice President and passengers aboard planes on the Presidential air fleet use the Presidential wing of the airport. “It is also important to state that even in the Presidential Wing of the airport the President of Nigeria uses, there is the presence of immigration and other security officials who must stamp his or her passport on arrival. “By standard procedure, all aircraft on international arrivals must first of all park at the international wing of the aircraft. They can move to the domestic terminal only upon the completion of the arrival processes. “While it is true that the Task Force on Currency at the airport did the routine action of checking the former Vice President’s travel bag, he was accorded full respect as a senior citizen. “These checks are mandatory, conventional, internationally applied and routine. No one is excused from them under our laws. These checks are carried out on all international arrivals and President Buhari does not get involved in them. “Law-abiding citizens are encouraged to respect the laws of the country and our VIPs should not seek to be treated over and above the citizens they wish to serve.” SOURCE - http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/11/search-of-atikus-luggage-aircraft.html 21 Likes 7 Shares

The Grassroots Mobilisers for Buhari and the Abuja chapter of the Arewa Traders’ Association have agreed to mobilise 1.03 million votes for President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming 2019 presidential election. GMB is a political association saddled with the task of ensuring electoral victory for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections. The National Chairperson of GMB, Dr. Fatima Goni, who announced this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, said the agreement was reached at a meeting between the leaderships of the two associations at Kebbi Hotel, Abuja. She also revealed that the GMB and the traders’ association planned to stage a one million march in support of President Buhari’s candidature in the February 2019 general elections. Goni, who is popularly referred to as Mama GMB, said the association would soon commence public procession in major streets across the country in support of the candidature of the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket. She said: “Our campaign strategies include polling to polling mobilisation of voters and continuing sustenance of public enlightenment through media support. “Our strategies will also use structures across the federation to counter the negative narratives being propagated by retrogressive forces. “We require your kind understanding and patriotic support, which shall be adequately complemented by our personnel resources to achieve a dynamic result in the monitoring and countering of anti-government propaganda. “This is the time for all who are deeply concerned about the prospects and challenges of our democratic growth and national progress to rise and be counted on the positive side of history where the Buhari administration has steadfastly striven to place our great country, Nigeria.’’ Goni pledged to forward all the challenges facing members of the association to relevant authorities. The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the GMB, Umar Farouk, disclosed that the association had intensified efforts to mobilise over 10 million of its members nationwide towards ensuring electoral victory for President Buhari in the presidential election. Farouk said the GMB was formed in 2014 with the sole aim of promoting President Buhari’s political ambitions as well as good governance. The chairman, Arewa Traders’ Association, Abuja chapter, Adamu Hassan, disclosed that the association, with membership from 63 market areas in the FCT and environs, voluntarily agreed to join GMB to ensure electoral victory for Buhari in 2019. “Apart from organising the one million-man march in support of Buhari/Osinbajo ticket on December 6, we are also working towards mobilising about 23 million of our members across the country to vote for Buhari/Osinbajo in 2019. “We will be doing all this in partnership with the GMB with our little resources because of our love for President Buhari and the achievements of his administration so far,’’ Hassan added.
