The girlfriend of a murdering drug dealer who enjoyed first class travel, expensive holidays and lavish shopping trips to New York using her boyfriend's laundered money has been jailed.

Courtney Randles, 26, lived a champagne lifestyle in a luxury apartment in Liverpool while her boyfriend Christopher Kenny - now a convicted murderer - worked as a major drug dealer across the UK.

Despite earning an £18,000 salary, council worker Randles posted selfies from transatlantic flights and bragged about her shopping sprees online, posting photos of bursting Juicy Couture bags.

When police raided the couple's flat, they also found £62,000 stashed behind a bathroom mirror.

Randles has now been jailed for three years and four months after pleading guilty to money laundering and disclosing personal data without consent.

The court heard she was aware of her boyfriend's trade and tried to flee the country with him, while carrying £7,000 in her handbag. She even contacted a Euromillions winner to see if she would help launder money on the couple's behalf so Kenny could buy a Mercedes-Benz, the court was told.

Passing sentence, Judge Clement Goldstone QC said Randles was 'steeped' in her boyfriend's 'criminality'.

He said: 'You were quite willing to continue your association with a man who was not simply to your knowledge a successful drug dealer but a murderer.

'I do not consider for one moment that you were coerced, intimidated or exploited – you were greedy.'

Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis announced his shock resignation this morning - only hours after the heavily-indebted country delivered a resounding 'no' vote on an international bailout package that plunged its future in the eurozone into further jeopardy.

Varoufakis claimed that during victory celebrations in Athens after the 'no' campaign won with a staggering 61 per cent of the vote, he was made aware that European Finance Ministers no longer wanted him to take part in talks on Greece's future.

Announcing his immediate resignation in a blog post that ended with Varoufakis claiming he will 'wear the creditors' loathing with pride', he revealed that Greece's Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had judged that his leaving the job 'might help achieve a deal'.

Yesterday Greece overwhelmingly rejected Europe's latest bailout package, plunging the country's future in the eurozone into jeopardy.

Germany immediately played down the significance of Varoufakis's resignation after the outgoing finance minister was pictured riding around Athens on his motorcycle both last night and yesterday morning

'It is not about people but rather positions,' Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert said.

With Greek banks running out of cash and facing the danger of collapse within days without new aid, the government in Athens is racing against the clock to facilitate negotiations on a new bailout program.

Despite his frequent clashes with creditors in negotiations over the past few months, Varoufakis' resignation comes as a huge shock - especially coming so soon after the historic 'no' vote.

But the Finance Minister - who rose to fame and infamy this year for his informal image among stuffy European finance ministers, his abrasive negotiation style and his acerbic attacks on austerity - appeared to suggest that his immediate departure was in Greece's best interest.

This morning Spanish Economy Minister Luis de Guindos said his government is ready to talk about a third Greek bailout.

De Guindos told a press conference in Madrid after the government's economic team met to discuss Greece's referendum result that everyone wants Greece to 'stay in the euro.'

However, he said 'the rules for the euro remain the same as they were two days ago...I don't contemplate in any way Greece leaving the euro,' he said.

The minister conceded the situation now was probably the most complex since the euro launched in 1999 but that the currency's irreversibility would be reaffirmed at the meeting of eurozone finance ministers tomorrow

SportsFootball’s Autocrat In First Class Gets A Red Card... by cutebola(op): 10:23am On Jun 03, 2015
Sepp Blatter told Fifa's 65th Congress in Zurich that he would be leaving the field of play at world football's governing body

Like Fidel Castro, Sepp Blatter possessed a kind of genius: not for running things, but for staying on the horse. Like Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Communist party, the uncharismatic Swiss built his power base in the global football authority Fifa as a bureaucrat, before seizing control of the organisation in 1998. Like Saddam Hussein, Mr Blatter has now been removed by a crusading US. Like the other rulers above, he leaves no worthwhile legacy. By the time he resigned as president on Tuesday evening, his organisation was being hit by a scandal a day. But Mr Blatter’s departure will not in itself cure Fifa, just as the capture of Saddam in his hole did not sort out Iraq.

Mr Blatter likes to boast that he “developed” global football. That claim is false. Admittedly his reign coincided with a growth in the game’s revenues and increased interest from regions that had never cared about football before. But that is due not to Fifa’s scanty development work — the odd all-weather field here, always unveiled to tremendous fanfare by an official flown in first-class — but rather to television. From the late 1980s, the new wave of commercial TV channels discovered the game’s magic. For the first time, regular league games began to be screened live in many countries. Football worked so well on TV that many viewers were prepared to buy subscriptions. Globalisation then spread the game to new countries.

No wonder that more people have discovered football since 1998, and that Fifa’s revenues soared under Mr Blatter. The organisation still is hardly “big business”, as he claimed last week. Fifa’s $5.7bn in revenues for the last four-year World Cup cycle was only about the same as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona between them turned over in the same period. But $5.7bn was enough for Fifa. A large chunk of the money was paid out to national football associations, often in the form of cheques handed to individual FA presidents at Fifa congresses. Some of that money may have ended up “developing football” in the FA president’s country. Some of it will have ended up in offshore bank accounts. No matter: 133 of 209 grateful FAs were still prepared to vote for Mr Blatter in last Friday’s presidential election.

The rest of Fifa’s revenues flowed into the coffers in Zurich, Mr Blatter’s to do with as what he wanted. He paid himself — and other Fifa executives — large undisclosed salaries.

His was a life removed from reality. Everyone else in the “football family” — by which Mr Blatter never meant fans or players but just senior international football officials — lives first-class, too. Almost everyone Mr Blatter met in those 17 years as president fawned over him. No wonder he formed the view that everyone supported him except the bitter English media and bitter US justice — both countries just unable to accept that they had lost the votes for hosting the World Cups of 2018 and 2022, he thought.

He may have to become used to a simpler life. Or he may have to brace himself for worse. Last week the US indicted nine Fifa officials and five sports marketing executives. More indictments will surely follow. American prosecutors will presumably offer these unhappy men plea bargains: squeal on a bigger fish, and we will cut you a deal. The biggest fish of all would be Mr Blatter.

The US can congratulate itself this week. Most westerners, at least, have been cheering the American pursuit of Fifa and the Swiss investigation of the awards of the 2018 World Cup to Russia and the 2022 event to Qatar. The World Cup has become arguably the biggest media event on earth, too big for its host to be picked by 22 unaccountable old men, several of them concerned chiefly with buffering their personal bank accounts. Both Qatar and Russia deny any wrongdoing.

But Mr Blatter’s resignation is only a first step. Fifa still has a structure that encourages corruption. Each national FA has one vote at its congress — Germany the same as American Samoa. That structure will encourage any president to bestow gifts on smaller FAs in return for their votes. Moreover, if a couple of dozen officials in the executive committee can make decisions on big matters like who hosts the World Cup, attempts at bribery become inevitable. Roger Pielke Jr, political scientist at the University of Colorado who follows Fifa closely, says: “As long as they have one vote per FA, it’s going to be a patronage organisation. So effecting reform under western business practices is unlikely under that scenario.”

If the national FAs decide they want to reform — and turkeys rarely vote for Christmas — then one structure they could consider is that of the World Anti-Doping Agency. WADA has seats on its governing Foundation Board for government ministers from many countries — though inevitably, the ubiquitous Mr Blatter sits on the board too. Mr Pielke suggests there could also be a role for the UN in a reformed Fifa. But many Fifa insiders may prefer, even now, to stick with the old patronage organisation.

Even if Fifa does clean itself up, it is hard to see it stripping Russia and Qatar of their World Cups. That could cause geopolitical ructions between the west, Mr Blatter’s ally Vladimir Putin, and parts of the Islamic world.

If there is one thing we have learnt since Saddam went, it is that getting rid of a tyrant is just the start. Often, in fact, the ousting turns out to be the sweetest moment of a sorry tale.

The Imperial State Crown is transported today from the Tower of London to Buckingham Palace in preparation for the State Opening of Parliament tomorrow.

The Queen likes it to arrive early so the Crown Jeweller, Martin Swift, can give it the once over. The monarch will then walk around the palace wearing it for at least two thirty-minute sessions, so her hairdresser and osteopath can gauge the effects it has on HM's head and back.

It's feared the 2.5lb crown – lightened and 'feminised' when she took the throne – may have to be carried in front of her in future. Expect intense competition among flunkeys for this honour.

Mary Lindell found post-war fame as a survivor of Ravensbruck concentration camp, hailed for running Allied escape routes in occupied France. A 1991 film based on her autobiography, One Against The Wind, starred Judy Davis and Kate Beckinsale.

The actor was 13 when he helped his stepfather build the family home his mother inhabits in Homestead, Iowa
He used new app Houzz, for which he is an investor, to design modifications remotely before 27 day redevelopment
Renovations were a Mother's Day present and thank you to his mom, Diane, who he suprised with the changes
Ashton said he wanted the house to be prepared for 'lots of grandkids' and installed bunkbeds for offspring
While Mother's Day for a lot of sons means remembering to buy a card and a bunch of flowers, for Ashton Kutcher it involved redecorating the entire house.

'It's my way of saying thank you to my mom,' the 37-year-old new father said, calling it his 'lifelong dream'.

She has made it no secret that she and husband Kanye West are trying to conceive another child.

And it certainly seems to be a labour of love for Kim Kardashian as she recently revealed how draining the process has been.

The 34-year-old actress opened up to E! News about the tiresome venture while backstage at a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel Show on Thursday evening.
She told Catt Sadler: 'We are trying. We try every single day. You can't try harder than we try.'

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star also revealed that her 37-year-old rapper husband has not been too happy about the struggles they have encountered in trying to conceive.

Kim said: 'It's getting exhausting. He always says, "Trying for baby No. 2 isn't as fun as trying to baby No. 1."'

She went on to discuss the difficulties they faced when giving birth to their now 20-month-old daughter, North, as she said: 'I did go through a lot with the delivery and so we faced a couple challenges.
But we're literally trying everything that we can to make it happen, so I'm to the point now where it's not as stressful to me. And maybe that's when they say it happens.'

Though they would like to have the child on their own, Kim revealed at that she may be open to a surrogate as she elaborated: 'I think if it came to that point, but we've trying for over a year and I would maybe wait a couple of years until that point happened.'

As the couple are coming up on their one-year anniversary, it seems to be nothing but wedded bliss for the couple as she said: 'You just learn all the little things about each other.

'We love to work out together. We love to have the TV on and I'm cooking and we're playing with our daughter. You know we have this routine…[we] love being together. And so I think you learn something about each other every single day when you're living together.'

An individual mother-and-child incident like this one is the best way to get these violent groups to listen, according to ABC News contributor and former FBI agent Steve Gomez.

"If you get them separated, and you get their family member, someone they respect, to lay into them," he said. "I don't think that they're going to listen to anybody other than their parents or someone in their family that they respect."

Fifteen officers were injured Monday when violent groups threw bricks, rocks and other objects at police.

About 75 to 100 school-age children were involved in the violence, police said, as they urged parents to bring their children home:

At a news conference Monday, Police Commissioner Anthony Batts referenced one mother who grabbed her son and smacked him on the head, although it is unclear whether this is the same mother caught on video.

"I wish I had more parents that took charge of their kids out there tonight," Batts said.

Baltimore City Public Schools are closed today in the wake of the violence.

A citywide curfew will be in effect from 10 p.m. today until 5 a.m. Wednesday. The 10 p.m. curfews will last for one week, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said, and could be extended as necessary.

A 9 p.m. curfew is already in effect for children 14 and younger.

CrimeXenophobia In South Africa, A Case Of Insipid Resentment By Patrick Fynn by cutebola(op): 9:48am On Apr 23, 2015
When you are little, night time is scary because there are monsters hiding under the bed. When you get older, the monsters are different and though you may be mature, you still find yourself scared of the dark.
Being in a forest can be creepy, so xylophobia which is a fear of forests is justifiable. It’s equally not awkward to have xyrophobia, fear of razors; it may be necessary for personal safety. And a lot of us have the fear of foreign languages, in what is called xenoglossophobia. These are all ordinary.

But Xenophobia, a dislike of foreigners? What is that?

It doesn’t sound like a good, admissible type of phobia. The last time we heard of it, it was trending at the south of Africa; in a country that has been through dark moments of oppression. We woke up to the news that the nation that had once suffered apartheid is now been hit by a wave of violence against immigrants.

Shops have been looted and set ablaze. Human beings are slain and burnt into ashes. Women and children are flogged on streets. Terrified foreigners hide in police stations and stadia, fleeing from machete-wielding attackers. This is not the first time xenophobic violence has exploded in the country. Seven years ago, stealing, rape and murder were recorded in the cities of Johannesburg and Cape Town in a similarly brutal pogrom.

And like every phobia, the fear is intense and unmerited.

As seeds grow into flowers, in stark contrast xenophobia has matured into racism. Xenophobia, afrophobia, racism, terrorism are deadly diseases with similar presenting symptoms – and when they become acute, the results are devastating. What is happening in some parts of the country is in total disregard for human lives! To hack foreigners to death in such barbaric manners is unreasonable, arbitrary, illogical and irrational.

And it is a pity that the very people whose nations sacrificed to help South Africans fight, repel and defeat apartheid will today be considered parasites and aliens.

The nightmare your brothers from other countries are going through is obviously more haunting than when you were politically persecuted. Ghanaians, Nigerians, Zimbabweans, Mozambicans are persecuted in your streets with the same cruelty that the apartheid police persecuted freedom fighters inside and outside the country, years ago. After that violence and hate that came with apartheid, you are the last people we expect to treat others with contempt.

See, the attacks are not merely cruel against these immigrants, but on the nation itself. This is an indelible stain that will require almost nothing to fade.

The massacre, according to reports is precipitated by the protest that African immigrants are taking their already scarce job and undermining businesses owned by locals. So what happens when you remove every black foreigner from your country? Will it stop your hunger for bloodshed and crime? Will you finally seize the opportunities around you and become entrepreneurs even when you are unqualified or does the killing consequently make you managers?

It is documented that the country has about 2 million immigrants, which is about 4% of the 50 million population, and an unemployment rate of about 25%; meaning for every 4 persons living in the country 1 is unemployed. This clearly points out the economic exclusions and hardships these communities are exposed to. It is only in South Africa that an illiterate villager thinks a qualified medical doctor from another country is the reason for his unemployment. What frustration can do!

See, immigrants contribute to a nation’s economy and bring skills that are in demand. To stereotype them as criminals is sheer bigotry. Indeed the muggers involved in this barbaric act must be condemned by all and justice needs to be served to those leaders who incited hate crimes and violence.

Africans killing Africans?

Xenophobia is when we can’t look beyond our countries and ethnicity. It is disheartening this is what the black man has reduced himself to. We are our own enemies. After all, ‘Hedgehogs are not porcupines and lizards are not crocodiles because they look alike’. So if someone asks me if I am an African, I might just say, I’m a citizen of the world.

That's not to say that nobody has bought one; SeatGeek, which claims to be the world's largest event ticket search engine, is selling briefs for up to $30,000 (£20,000).

These are known as 'spec tickets' which the sellers don't have but expect to get before the fight.

The venue for the bout, the 16,500-capacity MGM Grand Arena has the following message on its website:

'Details on ticket sales coming soon! Please be aware that tickets for the May 2, 2015, Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight are not yet available for purchase.

'Buyers should use extra caution when purchasing alleged tickets from unofficial sources, for fraudulent or counterfeit tickets will not be accepted.'

So why the delay?

Initially, Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum said tickets would be on sale in the first week of April but that less than 1,000 - priced between $1,500 and $7,5000 - were expected to be made available to the public.

But last week, SeatGeek analyst Connor Gregoire said: 'It's bizarre, normally there's a public sale 10 weeks before the fight. To our knowledge no one has a printed ticket in their hands right now.'

Gregoire went on to say that only a dozen tickets had been sold through the website at an average price of $8,000 (£5,400).

Another ticketing site, StubHub, are yet to put any tickets on sale.

Spokesperson Alison Salcedo said: 'There's still so much up in the air for this fight that we're not allowing spec sales. We're not willing to take that risk now.'

As far as Arum is concerned, the blame lies squarely on Mayweather's side.

'All of this is on the MGM (Grand), I mean, if you think that the MGM is calling the shots here, you're totally mistaken. It's the man behind the curtain,' he told Boxing Scene, alluding to Mayweather's.

First picture of migrant ship's 'killer captain': Tunisian skipper bites his nails as he is brought to shore to face charges of 'multiple manslaughter' after 900 perished on his capsized boat

Mohammed Ali Malek, 27, has been charged with multiple manslaughter
Arrived in Malta on Italian rescue ship with bodies of 24 migrant victims
He was arrested alongside his 26-year-old Syrian 'smuggler accomplice'
Prosecutors say Malek crashed into ship which had come to its rescue
Migrants then shifted position as result of collision, causing it to capsize

Biting his nails nervously, these are the first pictures of the migrant boat captain accused of killing 900 men, women and children in one of the worst maritime disasters since World War Two.

Tunisian skipper Mohammed Ali Malek, 27, was arrested when he stepped onto Sicilian soil last night, some 24 hours after his overcrowded boat capsized in the Mediterranean.

Before leaving the ship, however, he was forced to watch the bodies of 24 victims of the tragedy being taken off the ship for burial on the Italian island.

He was later charged with multiple manslaughter as it emerged he mistakenly rammed his vessel into a Portuguese-flagged merchant ship that had come to its rescue.

As a result of the collision, the migrants shifted position on the boat, which was already off balance, causing it to overturn.

Malek was also pictured with his alleged smuggler accomplice, a 26-year-old Syrian crew member named Mahmud Bikhit, who charged with 'favouring illegal immigration'.
