Verdi: Hello everyone,
Great job you guys have done, in disseminating information on the entire US grad school application process. I have gained so much perusing this and the previous thread parts for a while now and I hope to also provide useful feedback which others may find useful.
My question is concerning the payment of the MRV fee. I completed my applications for Fall 2016 and I've been admitted with my I-20 on the way(should be here next Friday or slightly later) and I want to know if I can go ahead and pay the MRV fee this week (like today or tomorrow) considering the site says the present fee rate expires on May 23. Is it possible to pay for the MRV fee without the I-20? Also I'd like to know if there is any time restriction to schedule your interview from the day you pay your MRV fee, for instance, is there some rule that says you must use the UID or receipt number or something within xyz days?
Thank you. I guess you can go ahead with payment of your MRV fee sir... you need just your international passport to process the payment... I don't think there's an expiry date for the usage... All the best sir 1 Like |

Bussy123: Hi all,
I recently accepted an offer into graduate program (PhD) in chemistry. I was offered a financial support as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) with stipend. In short, its fully funded.
What are the embassy requirements please? How can I prove strong tie to my country? My education has been back to back, I recently completed Master in Chemistry (graduated in September) in UI but still carrying out researches and writing papers (Journals) so I am not doing any paid job now.
What advice can you guys give when it comes to embassy in Lagos? so far my PhD is fully funded with monthly stipend, do I have to present huge back statement to embassy? What are the documents that I should provide or take to the embassy with me?
Looking forward to hear from you guy. Thanks
Another chemist in the house... your head is super valid!!! As regards embassy requirements, you will need your international passport, i20 (i hope the school has started making provisions for that already), a proof of sevis payment (you can't proceed with this until your i20 arrives sha), ds160 confirmation page, your gtbank MRV receipt, a 2 by 2 passport photograph, a bank statement and some other supporting documents. I guess stating what this degree will do for you in Nigeria after your study is a good home tie. Are you married? Marriage can serve as a very good home tie too. I'm just a learner here too, my ogas in the house over to una oo abeg 4 Likes |

Angelapinkytoes: I know it's a norm to drop transcript interviews in order to for others to learn from cause I read a few on my over 6months been a guest here. Feel a lil sober to type cause I've been drinking with my friends celebrating my new F1 visa stamp that'll be on my passport in a few days. So,my interview was for 7am;at the consulate in Lagos.I had a few drama on the way cause my car suddenly stopped on mainland bridge that was about 6.15am,I had to call my dad who sent the driver with another car in exchange for mine. I said to myself,Devil this is not your day. I finally got to the embassy, checked in and screened. I was called by a white lady who looked sort of mean but she gave me a smile though.Asked for my i20 and asked I place my fingers for the machine. VO-I see you're going for an MBA in Marketing in Howard University school of Business? PINKYTOES-Yes ma'am VO-So,why marketing? PINKYTOES-Cause,I did that for undergraduate studies here in Nigeria,it's a field I have great passion for,not forgetting am gonna be educated more on consumer behavior, product management. This also ma'am is gonna earn me more advanced promotions and overall increased career opportunities in a variety of other fields. VO-Excellent. Did you apply to other business schools? PINKYTOES-Of course,I did. I applied to Yale University and Kellogg School of management in Evanston Illinois. I choose Howard cause,my mom and dad who are alumni of the university gave me great reviews about the school.Half my tuition was waived for me considering my great GMAT scores and BSC results. And was promised a full tuition waiver if i maintained a great GPA during my first year. VO-(Can I see your GMAT test scores and undergraduate transcripts). I passed her my testscores and transcripts. VO-(Flipping through the pages of my passport) I see here you've been to the States before, and you have visa stamps for Australia,Germany and South Korea. PINKYTOES-Yes ma'am,I was in the states on visiting I stayed for 2months,Australia for visiting,Germany for a six months business course and South Korea on a business trip with my dad. VO-Do you have family in the states? PINKYTOES-My mom lives and works with the federal government in Washington, she visits Nigeria on holidays. I have siblings there too. VO-Who's your sponsor? PINKYTOES-My parents. VO-Can i see their bank Statement? PINKYTOES-(Passes her my bank Statements)She flips through it for almost 3mins and ask. VO-I see it's a joint account of 57,200dollars. Who controls the account more often? PINKYTOES-They both do,my dad gave me this cause he recently visited my mom and had the statement printed for my interview. VO-Give me a few minutes to make some confirmations inside(She took my bank statements and passport inside). She came back and asked What do your dad do? PINKYTOES- He's a private investor in Nigeria and owns a building constructing firm in New York City. VO- okay,I will hold on to your passport and issue you your visa,Pick up your passport from this circled location in 3days. PINKYTOES-I know the routine ma'am,she smiled. Thank you all for those, who replied to my first post on here yesterday and those who sent me private messages, you're really appreciated. I will drop by when I have the time to help most people on the little knowledge I have on visa issues. God bless us all. Congrats dear 1 Like |
