What can it take to turn Aba or Onitsha into a World Class Cites!. I don't think a summit will do that but action!.
A summit will create a kind of unity you know..Remember, " igwe bu ike" and " anyuko mamiri onu, ogbo ufufu"

This is why I personally don't see any single GREAT governor in SE. All we have there are third world Nigerian governors that cannot challenge anything. This is actually one of the strong points of those who say that Biafra cannot work, but I believe that the federal government play a big role in stopping such ambitious efforts in the East.
Still one of them needs to grow the balls to embark on projects that even the feds don't support; but it may mean single terms in office for such bold governors. Nigeria is the problem.
you are absolutely right..The problem is that free money has made them so lazy that they can't even think of how to generate money on their own...

What I don't like about a summit call it economic or social is that it may end up like a political jamboree or a debating forum which will end up achieving nothing!
It only happens when government is sponsoring it and there is a possibility of some cash somewhere to be shared. But when serious minded shroud businessmen come together to discuss how to create an enabling environment for themselves, they will surely match their words with action.

We may not need to leave Abia State alone in this, We need to push for it by forming a company made up of many States/individuals from the East to bid for it!.We can call the company The EastPort Ltd!.This company can invest in Ibom Port project or any port project in the East & beyond!
You have a good point there. That's why Eastern Economic Summit is a necessity. ..

The "issue" is what role the federal government has to play in things like this. The cost is not really the problem; the problem is with an overbearing federal government that can stop you even if you can afford it, or worse still stop you AFTER you've spent money by an executive fiat, especially now that we have a near dictator in charge.
I personally believe that if there is no federal interest whatsoever, private investors can raise the money and build the whole thing.
The return on investment is too tempting.
Prove me wrong though.
You have a point there...With the economic conspiracy against the East going, I suspect FG's interference once we starts doing that on our own..

abia state should build it first..then we see how it goes.constant dredging no be beans sha
True but Abia State needs to be encouraged to do that..The question is who will encourage them? If my State governor isn't a fool, I don't see any reason why he shouldn't team up with Abia governor to do that.. angry
Politics › Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by CyberWolf: 7:47pm On Sep 29, 2015
If our big economic players from the East both home and abroad can organize an economic summit which will involve all the governors from Eastern Nigeria, I think we can reach a compromise there on how to go about this seaport of a thing..

I dont think obuaku needs dredging for large barges..however for big ocean liners who will bear the cost of the dredging?
I think once serious economic activities starts going on there, government won't hesitate to dredge it...If Abia State can do that, it will surely boost their internally generated revenue..

Why not Anambra/Abia state invest in Akwaibom's Seaport?. If we do that,The economy of the whole Eastern Nigeria will be greater than Lagos & the rest of Nigeria!
That's another good idea because importing/exporting through AkwaIbom State will be much more easier than going through Lagos...The stress associated with Lagos scares the hell out of me angry

I doubt if obuaku can receive big oceanliners..it can receive large barges though..i think it needs serious initial and periodic maintainance dredging to have hope of receiving ocean liners
I see...But I think it will be a good idea starting from somewhere..Starting from large barges and maybe as time goes on, expand it so it can receive big oceanliners won't be a bad idea huh

What about Obuaku seaport in Abia State, any idea huh

To answer your question, a very brilliant idea was given by a patriotic igbo man in the moniker of lyn19. He said, we can build an offshore platform for our goods and use smaller ships to convey them to the shore. I think that's a brilliant idea.

If you want something to be done, you'll always look for ways for it to be done.
I think there is one Obuaku seaport in Abia State they've been talking about, how viable is that? Any idea? ...I'm interested in this seaport of a thing because I'm looking forward to exporting agro products very soon.

Igbo Kwenu! Igbo Kwenu!! Igbo Kwezuenu oooooo!!!

I have been saying it and I will keep on saying it. Let's build
seaport in the east. It is very important we understand the
happenings of our country before we make decisions. The
igbo tribe is blessed with men and women capable of being
self-reliant but we love to throw away every opportunity of
doing just that. Like someone said, Apapa is a gridlock. If
you haven't been to Apapa/wharf you won't understand
what these guys are saying. It is locked!

But I think Lagosians are sharper than we the igbos. Lagos
wants to build new seaport in Badagry and maybe lekki too.
That means more money for the already congested state.
Lagos has also opened new sites in Ibeju-lekki. Don't be
surprised, that will be your lekki phase 3. What are igbos
doing about it? Still lurking around and waiting for other
people to do their job.

I know many people will say seaport is not the important
thing, oh! Please, our economy is being run on the sea! So,
why can't you run your economy on your own sea? The IGR
of Lagos state is presently 28billion, like 3/4 of it from who?
Igbos! You cannot continue to feed other people and you
continue to starve. We have even started importing from cotonou. Igbos can enrich other people but feel very lazy to do thesame thing at home. I still say it anywhere, build a seaport and see the east explode like a mad man. People will say Rivers, Calabar and Delta state has seaport. No! They don't! Why? Its either not functioning or they don't have people who can import/export from there.

My people, we have people to export our goods to. We have
goods and raw material that we need. We have investors to
flirt with. We shouldn't sleep and let other states wake up
before we do. We should wake faster than the others.
Investors want igbos to do business because if we do
business, they'll be rich! Build a seaport will be very expensive, but the real expensive thing is, not doing anything about it!

Enjoy

BTW: If all Obiano said there is true, prepare for an explosive anambra state in 10years time.
you are doing a nice job here..Keep it up..

He's also running very well against Clinton in potential match ups in battleground states, he is one to watch.
of course in the last head to head match with Clinton, he had 49% while Clinton had 42%. He even posted on his FB wall that after the controversial statement regarding Moslems, that $$$$ has been pouring from different sponsors. This is to tell you that greater percentage of Americans supported what he said.

Ben Carson said the mind of the majority of Americans though some of them won't admit it openly. I salute BEN for his bravery and if care is not taken, I see him clinching the Republican ticket. If that happens, I see his as the next US president.

America needs someone with balls like this in this crucial time when Muslim beasts are on rampage spilling blood anyhow. Nobody wants a potential terrorist in control of a nuclear warhead. angry

You are COMPLETELY right. Most people on NL politics section supporting politicians are either being paid, doing it out of misplaced passion or hoping that some big politician would notice them and reach them offline for political appointments.
But then, they are being delusional. If they get noticed at all, it may never be on NL seeing that too many people have unrestricted access to type rubbish here.
If you are a good writer/analyst, these politicians can recruit you as PR assistant/ image maker, and it starts from there. They can sponsor you to become a LG chairman, HoA member or any other political appointment, but you MUST prove your loyalty to them. They know that they won't remain in those political positions forever so, it's through their boys like that they can always access public funds to loot angry

They are criminals indeed, yet we fight for them.
I sometimes imagine if all the graduates who truly have something to offer get jobs, and are allowed to develop the nation with their talents... it weighs me down, the thousands and thousands of people roaming the streets, taking to crimes and just wasting away; because nothing has been put in place to harness talents in this country.
Do you know most of the monies stacked away by our politicians may never be recovered even by them (or when they die). And they don't feel any pity for the suffering masses
The sad truth is that Nigeria is like a jungle and so, one has to take every possible option to survive. I know of so many people today that kept licking the balls of our politicians until they climbed to the top of political position today. The sad reality today is if you wanna excel in politics, you must suck the balls of these politicians. ...If you want to succeed as a big business man today, you must suck the balls of these politicians. That is just how it is.
