Power tiller. Now I learn of it. Tractors can't work on swampy rice farm like ours, but this could.
But for over six consecutive years of farming cycles now, the rice still comfortably produces as a wanted weed it happened to be, without fertilizers even nor tillage!

You mean no tilling of land? What if it's hard? Can this be applied to maize farming also? I've come across "intensive no-tillage maize cultivation" b/4 and my questn hav always been what if the land is hard?

Hard farm land always required tillage, for gaseous penetration and support of microbial activities to the roots.
We live on a loamy soil all through. All our upland crops are tilled for, but the swampy areas - mainly for rice - are no longer tilled since the advent of strong herbicides.

mount1ng: With lowland, u spend less, but with upland, you must take into consideration that rice is not a good competitor with weeds. To have a good yield, land preparation is key.

Lowland of course. A part of the community is swampy, were rice is planted.
I only saw the upland cultivation as a child, when one of our primary school teacher practiced it. Never knew it can be commercially dependable.

I will give this info then you can run the cost:
1. Land - lease or buy
2. Land preparation ( tractor: plow (2), harrow (1)
3. Seeding (Paddy 50kg by planter, 80 - 100kg by broadcasting)
4. Herbicide (selective and non-selective)and pesticide
5. Fertilisers (5-
6. Labour (harvester, sprayer, bird scares
7. Spraying tanks..
This is mainly for upland planting

In my own place, land preparation is required less even. We dry herbs around with non-selective herbicides and cut them off thereafter and arrange it. Cultivation is no longer required. You just sow the seedlings or plant the nursery. The skip of cultivation makes it far less expensive these day and many are getting back to the farm for that!

We are all part of our problem. We are naturally too possesive, as Africans. If I tell myself that I am not corrupt as those in power, but I can fight over little acquisitions like land, money, woman and even pride, how am I even sure that I won't embezzle public fund when in position?
Jesus said that whoever is with us is not against us. Moreso, if we can't talk to our representatives we can approach, but show royallity on their mischieves instead, we are all part of the problems then!
It's not an easy venture. But we can't clean the outside while the inside is in ruin. Taking to the street (protest) may not solve our problem absolutely - because of who is that totally corrupt free one that can bell the cat - though it would go a very long way towards solution.

I am aware of that. But the merchants and larger percent of consumer, especially the commercial food vendors like restaurant managers really care less about nutrient thing to appearance.
Please tell me if there is any special polishing machine or technique out there? The regular milling machine around doesn't get it right.

mount1ng: "value chain" is when value is added to a product outside planting. You buying Rice paddy from the farmers, then process to bag. With that, you've added value to the rice. Which sells better.
We sold a tonne to LASG for 80K. But when we processed and sold to them we made double. So u see, you make more money when u add value to a product.

This is general core business ethics, standing out from the crowd. I will like to know other techniques used in cleaning the rice as bright as the foreign brands, trash free?
