Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom on Friday said no amount of gang-up against him within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would make him leave the party for another political party again.
There have been insinuations that the governor may defect from the PDP to the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
Ever since his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the PDP, there have been some unresolved disagreement between him and the leadership of his new party over who controls the structure of the party in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the governor on Friday, his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, told reporters in Makurdi that talks between Ortom and other governorship aspirants within the PDP were still ongoing.
He said, “As l speak with you, there is no such thought (of defecting) at all. The governor has joined the PDP, he was in the PDP before he left and he has said that he has come back home. So, there is no such thought at all.
“Ortom is a true member of the PDP and is confident of flying the PDP flag in next year’s election.
So, why should he think about leaving the PDP? There is no reason and no cause for such thought as I speak with you. l don’t have to comment about what any aspirant is saying because the PDP I know is a big family that makes decisions to accommodate all its members.

Lionel Messi’s brother has been sentenced for possessing an illegal firearm. The Barcelona star’s sibling, Matias, received a two-and-a-half year prison sentence on Thursday but instead of going to jail, he will undertake community service.
Argentine newspaper, La Capital, report that the decision was reached through a deal with investigating prosecutors.
The firearm was found late in 2017 inside a blood-stained boat, which Matias crashed in the Parana River.
The 35-year-old was initially held under preventive arrest and later released while he recovered from a fractured jaw and other injuries in the Santa Fe province of Argentina.
Matias’ lawyer originally argued that his client crashed the boat into a sandbank and denied that he owned the gun.
This isn’t the first time Matias has had brushes with the law for allegedly illegally carrying a firearm. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s brother, who has been linked with known criminals in the past, was held for 16 hours in a prison cell for in 2015 after officers found an an unlicensed 22-caliber gun in his car.
He was also arrested in 2008 for allegedly having a loaded gun in his belt. Matias is the middle brother in the Messi family, with Rodrigo aged 38 and Lionel aged 31. The trio also have a younger sister, 31, called Maria.

Kano – Twenty eight people have lost their lives to cholera in Kano between the months of January and July this year as a result of 400 reported cases of acute watery diarrhea and 50 confirmed cases of cholera across 33 local government areas in the state. The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has urged security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to probe the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for allegedly planning to scuttle next month’s governorship election in Osun state as well as reportedly cloning some Permanent Voter Cards PVCs. Acting National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena who made the allegation Wednesday in Abuja said; “The Peoples Democratic Party PDP on Tuesday vowed to deploy all ‘means, schemes, shenanigans in all ramifications and magnitude’ to rig all coming elections, starting from the Osun State Governorship election. She never left my side, matter of fact, she was my younger twin. We looked alike and she could sing for the whole of AFRICA.

Nasri, 30, took the treatment while on holiday, but it contravened World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) rules leading to a Spanish Anti-Doping investigation.
Nasri’s lawyer told BBC Sport the suspension was being imposed by Uefa.
Reports in Spain have suggested the ban will be made public on Monday.

President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why he ejected the proposed bill establishing Peace Corps of Nigeria.
Buhari’s explanation was contained in a letter read during plenary on Tuesday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
In the letter, Buhari cited security concerns and financial burden of funding the organisation by the government as his reasons for rejecting the bill.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has written a letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) directing him to withdraw a recent recruitment advertisement into the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Daily Trust gathered yesterday.
A source yesterday said the commission wrote the IGP over two weeks ago after the advert was published in newspapers and circulated across the country.
The source raised concerns over the legality of the recruitment process, hinting that the entire process could be challenged in court as recruitment into the Police Force is the responsibility of the commission.
The source said the IGP does not have the mandate to carry out any recruitment into the police. The source further said already the commission is aware that the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari had written the Finance and Budget ministers to review budget proposals made to the commission for the recruitment exercise.
The source said Kyari had requested the two ministers to review the recruitment budget of the commission, recommend funding option and revert on or before today, February 19, 2018.

U.S. intelligence agencies have issued a stern warning to Americans: Do not buy smartphones made by Chinese tech companies Huawei or ZTE.
Top officials from the CIA, NSA, FBI and the Defense Intelligence Agency testified in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday that the Chinese smartphone makers posed a security threat to American customers.
Republican Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas asked the group to raise their hands if they would recommend private American citizens use products or services made by Apple competitor Huawei or smartphone maker ZTE. None of them did.
FBI Director Chris Wray explained why it is an issue for companies and local governments to use Huawei or ZTE products and services.
There is a risk of letting any company “beholden to foreign governments” inside the country’s telecommunications infrastructure, he said. Huawei is a global leader in networking equipment, and the government has previously blocked it from selling technology to some federal agencies.
“It provides the capacity to maliciously modify or steal information,” Wray said. “And it provides the capacity to conduct undetected espionage.”
Huawei has not made strides in the U.S. market in large part because of government concerns that the Chinese government can use its smartphones and other products for intelligence gathering.

A Belgian court on Friday ordered Facebook to stop tracking internet users in Belgium who have no accounts with the social network, or face fines of 250,000 euros a day.
The California-based firm vowed to appeal the ruling amid increased efforts in Europe to boost privacy protections in a digital economy dominated by US giants.
Facebook must "stop following and recording internet use by people surfing in Belgium, until it complies with Belgian privacy laws", the Brussels court said.
It based its verdict on a probe by Belgium's privacy watchdog into Facebook's use of pixels and cookies, tracking devices that follow a user's internet activity.
The court warned Facebook it could face fines of 250,000 euros per day or a maximum of 100 million euros ($125 million) if it failed to heed the ruling.
"Facebook must also destroy all personal data obtained illegally," the court ordered.
Finally, it said, the social network must publish the complete 84-page verdict on its own website and excerpts in Belgium's Dutch-language and French-language newspapers.
The court said it "determined that Facebook does not respect Belgian privacy law",basing its ruling on the investigation of Belgium's privacy watchdog CPVP.
In 2015, the watchdog lodged a legal complaint over Facebook's tracking of internet users when they visit pages on the site or click "like" or "share", even if they are not members.
