Nearly four months after a Nigerian was executed in Saudi Arabia for alleged drug-related offence, two more have been killed in a similar manner, sending fears to no fewer than 15 other Nigerians being detained in parts of the Middle East country, Saturday Vanguard is reporting.
Prison Sources in Saudi Arabia confirmed to the newspaper that the two Nigerians, whose names have been given as Ibrahim Ciroma and Maimidu Issah, both from the Northern part of Nigeria, were executed last week.
The prison source said while one was brutally terminated on Tuesday, the other Nigerian faced the hangman’s noose on Thursday.
The summary execution of the two Nigerians came nearly two weeks after a prison source in Medina leaked the names of 15 Nigerians, who are currently on death row at the Medina Prison, awaiting the long knife any moment from now.
Saturday Vanguard had on January 13 this year published a Save-Our-Soul letter despatched by the embattled Nigerians awaiting execution in Riyadh to President Muhammadu Buhari and pleaded with him to intervene and save their lives by repatriating them home to save their jail terms in their fatherland or be killed at home and given decent burials instead of being killed as cows in a foreign land.
In response, the Federal Government, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, affirmed the determination of the government to wade into the matter and save the lives of the imprisoned Nigerians in Saudi Arabia.
The minister promised to dispatch officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Riyadh to liaise with their Saudi counterparts so as to prevent the inmates from being executed.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs has directed the Nigerian Mission in Riyadh to look into the detained suspects’ case urgently,” the Spokesman for the Ministry, Dr. Tope Adeleye Elias-Fatile, said in response to Saturday Vanguard’s enquiry on the matter.
“The Nigerian Government will continue to engage the Saudi authorities in negotiations so that they will not be executed,” the Foreign Ministry assured.
However, more than two weeks after the report was made to the Nigerian Government and with no action coming from Abuja, the additional two Nigerian drug suspects were sent to their early graves.
It was learnt that following the directive of the Federal Government to the embassy in Riyadh to intervene and save the troubled Nigerians from death row, the Nigerian embassy simply requested for the file numbers of the inmates from the prison officials and nothing else was done about it.
One of the suspects told Saturday Vanguard on Friday that an indication that more of the detainees might be executed any moment from now was that their files had been removed from the prison in Medina and its computer system.

Libyan forces have arrested gang members suspected of torturing Nigerians and other African migrants.
They are reported to have been arrested near Tripoli after torture video surfaced on Social media.

Miss Loveth Ekumabo , 25-year-old Libya returnee, who blamed her father’s incestuous behaviour for her decision to flee to Libya, at least, for safety from her father; narrated how she was subjected to inhuman condition.

She has, in her life, gone through bitterness, especially her stay in faraway Libya, where she undergone forced labour and made a subject of serial rape.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she cursed all those who raped her in Libya.
Migrants in Libya hoping to cross to Italy
Mr Harrison Okotie, 35, married and has two children is one of the returnees with gory story to tell.
Okotie, who hails from Ughelli South local government area of Delta, left everything in Benin, where he had lived all his life, before leaving for Libya in search of greener pasture to take care of his family.
He noted that his journey through the desserts without food and water and the inhuman treatment meted on him, made him realised that there is no place like home.
”I will never in my life think of leaving my country again. Whether there is work or no, I will stay here and manage with my family.

”The Nigerians held-up in Garian prisons are well over 4,000. The Libya authorities do not want to release them because they are making money from them.
”They will call you from prison and ask you to call your people in Nigeria to send money for them to release you. Even if you succeed in getting money from Nigeria, they still would not let you go.
”It is a big business. They are not happy that the United Nations and international bodies are helping to deport people to their countries. So they now keep Nigerians in their underground prisons.
He said: ”It was a horrible experience. One day a truck that carried 28 people, 15 of them died on the way due to lack of food and water.’’
The story of 34-year old Miss Josephine Ajabor, also from Delta, is however strange.
Mr Sunday Ehiagina, another returnee, squandered his life savings on the trip to Libya.
Ehiagina, a native of Irrua in Esan Central local government area of Edo, said he owned and operated a shoe factory for seven years in Benin.
In Libya’s Garian and Saba prisons many people are tortured.

The Lagos State Government on Friday confirmed the death of Mr Deji Tinubu, the Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.
The government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan, expressed shock and disbelief’ over the sudden death of Tinubu.
According to Bamigbetan, Tinubu, a soccer fan, slumped while playing five aside match with fellow participants at the ongoing retreat of members of the State Executive Council and permanent secretaries in Epe.
“Doctors and nurses rushed to give him first aid and he was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Epe, where he was confirmed dead.
“An autopsy is expected to be carried out while burial arrangements will be announced by the family.
“We are still in shock. All of us at the state executive council are in disbelief, we shall miss him,” Bamigbetan said.
He described the deceased as a good and committed patriot who brought his passion to his job and a gentleman who maintained excellent team spirit.
Bamigbetan said the government had reached out to his immediate family to commiserate on the huge loss to the family and the state.
According to Bamigbetan, the late Tinubu was the son of late Kafaru Tinubu, one of Nigeria’s foremost police officers.
The deceased is survived by an aged mother and wife.
Tinubu was sworn in as Special Adviser on Sports and Chairman of the state’s Sports Commission in October 2015 and was recently moved to take up his new portfolio

The police on Saturday confirmed that 10 people have again been killed by the Fulani herdsmen in the troubled Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The armed nomads reportedly attacked the agrarian community in the early hours of Saturday and hacked the deceased to death in their homes.
The fresh attack is coming barely six days after the herdsmen attacked five communities in Guma and Logo local government areas of the state and killed over 50 persons.
The latest incident, according to sources, happened at Tombo village in Logo Local Government Area of the state.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the attackers invaded Ukemberagga/ Tsewarves and Tse Toradi, all in Tombo community in the Mbagber-Gaambe- Tiev district.
Another source claimed that the attackers launched the attack about 11pm on Friday and that it lasted till 5am on Saturday.
It was also gathered that the herdsmen invaded the village and burnt houses and shot sporadically, leading to the death of the victims.
Governor Samuel Ortom, who confirmed the incident through his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Mr. Terver Akase, called for more deployment of security personnel.
