Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Is’haq Oloyede
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Sunday said the much anticipated conduct of the 2018 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) would now hold on February 26.
The board’s Head, Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
According to him, a total of 245,753 of the 1,652,795 candidates that registered for this year’s UTME are expected to write the test.
“We are happy to announce to the public that the board has concluded arrangement for the conduct of the mock UTME, slated for Monday, February 26.
“This is irrespective of the ongoing strike embarked upon by members of the non-academic unions of federal universities nationwide.
“Candidates will soon be informed on when to print notifications for the examination and in addition, notifications will be sent through e-mails and text messages on the schedules of their examination,” Dr. Benjamin said.
He explained that the examination was expected to be hitch free because the board had successfully reduced incidences of malfunctioning of computers by electronically integrating the systems to see their functionality and effectiveness through link tests.
“What this means is that, at the end if the exercise, whatever system that is not seen will not be used for the mock examination.

Staff of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, were on Tuesday morning surprised when the senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, stormed their office with anti-snake venom and snake charmers, a day after a staff claimed a missing N36 million was eaten by snake.
JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, went into rounds of laughter when the lawmaker presented him with two packs of anti-snake venom and offered the services of two snake charmers to fish out snakes that swallowed huge amount of money.The exams board said it suspended the staff, Philomena Chieshe, at its Makurdi office following the bizarre claim.In reaction to the development, the senator visited the JAMB headquarters to ascertain the truth of the matter and to lend his “assistance”.
“The reason for my presence here is in response to the story that a snake swallowed about N36 million. It is my concern that such a huge amount of money is reported to have been swallowed by a snake. I believe the contribution I can make is to bring snake charmers from my constituency to the JAMB office to help them fish out the snake or weed out snakes from their premises,” Mr. Sani said.
“If a snake can actually swallow N36 million one day we may wake up in this country to see that a snake has swallowed our foreign reserve or it has swallowed money that was gathered in the TSA. ”Mr. Oloyede continued his laughter and insisted on taking photograph with the unexpected gift.“Let’s take pictures with anti-snake,” he said.One of the snake charmers, Tasiu Abdulrasheed, who claimed to have been a professional snake charmer for up to 20 years, said he has never encountered a money-swallowing reptile.

Yes he is no Neymar, but he truly is one of the best young talents in the world, and his price tag agrees to that. At only 20 years old, the young winger is fast, skillful and provides attackers in the box with killer passes and crosses. By no means is he the best winger Barca could have bought, perhaps Coutinho of Liverpool or Hazard from Chelsea would have been a better buy, but Dembele is one for the future. Many fans already believe he will soon be a Ballon d’Or contender so by no means will a player of his quality be holding Barcelona back in the attacking areas.

President Muhammadu Buhari has declined assent to the bill to establish Peace Corps which was transmitted to him last year.
According to Vanguard, Buhari has refused to append his signature to the NPC Establishment Bill, which was officially sent to him by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Omolori, in the last week of December 2017.
The 30-day window under, which the president should sign a bill duly transmitted to him elapsed on January 31, 2018.
The President now leaves the National Assembly with the only option of mobilising two thirds of its members to veto the president’s rejection of the bill.
A top Presidency official told the newspaper last night that the President could not have assented to the NPC bill because there was no need for such an outfit under the Nigerian security architecture.
The newspaper quoted the source as saying that by implication, the bill has been rejected by Mr. President since he did not sign it into law within the stipulated 30 working days.
Reacting to the development, the Spokesman for the House of Representatives, Abdulrazaq Namdas, told the newspaper that the members would wait patiently for President Muhammadu Buhari to write the NASS on why he would not append his signature to the bill before deciding on next step.
Namdas said lawmakers were aware that the president was in the habit of giving reasons whenever he rejects a bill sent to him by the NASS.

Barcelona did not expect their big money signing Ousmane Dembele to have such a slow and sluggish start with the team.



The Catalans, who are the sole leaders in LaLiga and finalists of the Copa del Rey, have so far survived without the Frenchman, who arrived in the summer from Borussia Dortmund for 105 million euros.

His signing was the consolation that club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board found in the market to compensate the sudden departure of Neymar.



Dembele arrived to be a starter alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, however his muscular injuries have prevented him from joining in on much of the action, as he has been sidelined more than he has been available (only playing 294 competitive minutes).

After almost a month of suffering, and yet another injury, the Frenchman made his latest comeback appearance against Getafe on Sunday.

Ernesto Valverde gave him half an hour to contribute to a team that was missing their spark throughout the entire match, but his football was not as dazzling as usual, failing to make a difference for the Blaugrana. In fact, he lost possession a whopping 13 times in less than 30 minutes.

The internet users increased marginally to 98.3million in November, the Nigerian Communications Commission, has said.
The NCC made this disclosure in its Monthly Internet Subscribers Data for December 2017 on its website on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the data, Airtel, MTN, and Glo gained more internet subscribers during the month in review while 9mobile was the big loser.
The data also showed that overall, internet users increased by 98,391,456 in December from 94, 818,553 in November showing an increase 3, 572,903.
The data breakdown revealed that MTN gained the most with 2,642.666, new internet users increasing its subscription in December to 36,069,597, from 33,426,931 in November.
It showed that 9mobile lost 68,341 internet users in December decreasing its subscription to 11,338.839 as against November when it recorded 11,407,180.
It said Airtel gained the most with 911,040 new internet users in December amounting to 23,985.203 users as against 23,074,163 users in November.

Former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has urged Nigerians to immediately transit “to a popular movement” ahead of the 2019 elections.
He said this on Tuesday at the peaking at the 15th Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL) Annual Lecture and International Leadership Symposium in Lagos.
Obasanjo, who subtly promoted his Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM), noted that Nigeria has been moving from one phase of leadership to another since independence.
He said, “We cannot fold our hands and think that we are there yet, we are not there yet.

Barcelona face a defensive crisis for the upcoming La Liga clash with Getafe on Sunday (11 February) after manager Ernesto Valverde admitted that he had to take off Gerard Pique during the 2-0 Copa del Rey win over Valencia on Thursday (8 February) due to the Spaniard's ongoing knee problem.
Pique was a major doubt going into the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final at the Mestalla after he picked up a knee injury during the weekend's 1-1 draw against Espanyol.
Initial reports from AS on Monday (5 February) claimed that Barcelona fear that the Spain international could be on the sidelines for up to a month and could consequently miss the decisive trip to Valencia as well as the Champions League first leg last 16 trip to Chelsea on 20 February.
However, a second scan was much more positive and Valverde decided to risk his centre-back at Valencia with Barcelona looking to book a place in the Copa del Rey final for the fifth consecutive campaign.
Pique started in the heart of the back-line alongside Samuel Umtiti and was able to help his side to reach the final with a 3-0 victory on the aggregate thanks to goals from Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic.
But his participation in the upcoming game against Getafe after he had to be replaced by January signing Yerry Mina in the 83th minute of the game.

The 25-year-old, who started the game on the bench, found the back of the net in the 49th minute after coming on as a half-time substitute for Andre Gomes.
After the match, the Brazilian told members of the media that he was hoping to score a goal a whole lot earlier, but is delighted that it finally came in an important game like this one.
"It's a very happy day," Coutinho told GOL after the match.
"I was looking for the goal in the first few games and today I got it and, most importantly, helped the team reach the final.
"It's a special moment. It'll be a great game and a difficult one (against Sevilla). We have time to prepare ourselves.
"It's my first final and it's a special and important moment for me, but there are a lot of moments to play before the final."
Coutinho has made five appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring once.

A Nigegrian man is being sought by US authorities in connection with an international gang accused of committing $530 million in cybercrime fraud.
Anthony Nnamdi Okeakpu, 29, is wanted on behalf of US authorities for allegedly being a member of the Infraud Organisation, the country’s department of justice said.
They described the case as “one of the largest cyber fraud enterprise prosecutions ever undertaken by the department of justice.”
He is one of 36 suspects from across the globe indicted over their roles within the group, which is said to have committed “large-scale acquisition, sale and dissemination” of stolen identities, debit and credit cards and other sensitive information.
One advert posted on Infraud’s online forum in 2011 claimed to have 795,000 log-ins for British customers of HSBC, the indictment says.
Mr Okeakpu, who used aliases including “Aslike1″, “Aslike”, “Moneymafia” and “Shilonng”, could face up to 20 years in a US jail if he is extradited, the country’s authorities say.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has extended the registration deadline for the 2018 UTME exam until February 11.
The board had earlier announced that registration for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will close on February 6.
But in a statement released on Tuesday by Fabian Benjamin, the board’s spokesman, JAMB said the registration window will be further extended.
“JAMB as a responsive organisation has taken the decision albeit with great hesitation to accommodate candidates who failed to register between the two months window period that ended at midnight of Tuesday, 6th February, 2018.
“The failure of these candidates to register is unfortunate and the board hastens to add that this culture of impunity will not be tolerated and indeed penalty may be imposed for late registration in future.

Premier League Champions, Chelsea, have been handed a major boost ahead of their Champions League last-16 clash with Barcelona.
This is after Gerard Pique picked up an injury.
The Spanish international scored a late equalizer against Espanyol in the Catalan derby on Sunday, but picked up a knock in the bruising encounter.
An insider told AS that the injury could keep him sidelined for up to a month – meaning he would miss the clash with Chelsea.
The Blues host Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on February 20, two weeks’ time, and Pique is a major doubt for that away trip.
Pique is currently undergoing tests at the club’s Ciutat Esportiva training centre to determine the full extent of the injury before a diagnosis, and return date, can be ascertained.
Another Barca defender, Thomas Vermaelen is also out injured which gives Ernesto Valverde a serious selection headache ahead of the tie with Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho post Man United 2 – Huddersfield 0
Jose Mourinho seemed happy enough after Manchester United beat Huddersfield 2-0 on Saturday.
The Special One saw his side recover from their 2-0 loss to Spurs at Wembley, with goals from Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
Huddersfield were defensively sound for the opening 45 as they restricted Manchester United in the first half.
During the second period Manchester United made their breakthrough. Lukaku converting a Juan Mata cross.
And, midway through the second half, Alexis Sanchez won and then scored his first Manchester United goal from the penalty spot.

After the Premier League game, Jose Mourinho had an amusing turn of phrase when discussing the Alexis Sanchez goal.
It came on 86 minutes. Jonas Lossl saved the initial effort. Sanchez followed up with an easy finish to make it 2-0.
Speaking with MUTV, Jose Mourinho commented on the penalty miss and follow-up saying: “Yeah, you know, it almost broke my heart, but the important thing is the second goal to really kill the game.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB registration deadline has been announced. The Unified Tertiary Matriculation registration for 2018 will close soon. Candidates and members of the public are hereby informed.

House of Representatives to investigate Police IGP, Ibrahim Idris over Peace Corps
Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Justice and Equity (Coalition-JE), has written a petition to the House of Representatives against the IG of Police, Ibrahim Idris, accusing him of disobeying court orders on Peace Corps.
The group petitioned the House over what it described as “total disregard of court judgments” by the Inspector-General of Police.
Rita Orji, member representing Ajeromi/Ifelodun federal constituency of Lagos State, read the petition signed by Comrade Olayemi Success on behalf of the coalition.
The petitioners held that the IGP has fragrantly unnoticed many judgments against him and the supervise in favour of the Trustees of peace corps of Nigeria (PCN) and its citizen Commandant, Amb. Dickson Akoh.
