--continuation-- Tina held Christopher's hand as they walked into the parking lot happily. Mother and son had rediscovered their lost touch and for once Chris was happy that he missed school for the whole day. He wouldn't mind doing this some other time. "Miss Tina." A voice called from behind. She stopped, turned to see a femal computer analyst approaching her. Even though she didn't know her name, she kew she was a level three clearance agent. "Are you going home already?" The lady asked. "Yup. Its closing time, isn't it?" Tina replied with a smiled. "It is, but aren't you aware that there is a meeting on going inside Oga Collins office?" The lady asked. "A meeting? What's it about?" Tina asked. "Its a meeting involving all the heads of a every department here. You should represent the field operatives." The lady explained. "Oh! I wasn't informed. I guess it has to do with administration." Tina quickly formed a lie in her head and dished it. "It can't be administrative. The head of the ICT is there too. Probably you didn't check your to do list or you mail." "What the hell is your problem? You be witch? Can't you just get out of here already." Tina thought within her angrily. "So, are you going to join them?" The lady asked. "No, not today. I have to drive my son home." Tina replied after a minute, the lady gave up and returned into the building while Tina hopped into the car. "My happiness, what's the matter?" Tina asked, immediately she swung the car unto the main road after noticing the angry look on Christopher's face. "Mum, I am angry with that lady who just left." He replied. "What did she do?" Tina asked placing her right hand accross his shoulder. "You told her you want to drive your son home and she couldn't even say hi to me." He explained. Tina smiled, she knew where this was heading to. "What has her not saying hi to you got to do with your anger?" "Mum, I am a man. That means she didn't notice me. Am I that bad looking? I am handsome right?" He asked. Tina stifled a laugh as she carefully manouvered her way despite the traffic. "You are very handsome my dear. If mummy could notice how handsome you are then you shouldn't worry about other people." She replied. Just what he wanted to hear. "And since mummy is the most beautiful girl on earth, I am happy she noticed me." He said smiling. "You dared call mummy a girl?" she laughed. "I sure know how to make you laugh." He said dreamily. "Believe me, I know how to make my boy happy." She replied. "What-?" He asked sharply like he just remembered something. Tina turned to face him with an askance look. "Never mind." He said as he looked away. Obviously, his countenance has changed, but she knew best to let him be that moment. Twenty minutes later, Chris was back in his happy mood as he jumped around the ward conversing with other patients who were sharing the ward with Mark. "When did the doctor say you'll be discharged?" Tina asked as she held his hand. "He didn't give me a specific date, but according to him, he would watch me till the end of the week." Mark replied looking into her eyes intently. "Which means you have four more days." She said. "I am getting out of here tonight. There is no way I am passing the night in this sh!thole called the hospital." He replied. Tina stiffened and backed in suprise. "Why?" She asked. "I am allergic to hospitals." He replied. "But you've been here all day." she protested. "I am allergic to spending the night in hospitals." He quickly changed his words. "Okay, so how do you intend to return to your hotel?" Tina asked. "Clara has promised to drive me home. In fact, she is the one I am waiting for." Mark replied. "Clara? But why that lady? You know, I can drive you back to your hotel." Tina replied. And just then, the door into the ward opened and talk of the devil, Clara strode in that moment. "It has to be Clara. If it is not Clara, then it can never be like Clara. So, deal with that." She said as she walked towards Mike. Tina had to step aside to allow her access Mark whose face had lit up the moment he saw her. "Good for you then. See you in office tomorrow then." With this, Tina walked out of the ward with her son who was suprised, but couldn't ask any question. Was it jealousy? She couldn't say. But its a married man we are talking here. She thought as she hoped into her car, ignited the engine and just as she made to shut the door, a masculine voice called. "Christina." She looked towards a white coloured Masserati and saw Daniel Martin walking towards her. "Noooo." She screamed as she drove off angrily with tears in her eyes. END OF CHAPTER 5 |
CHAPTER 10 __________________________________________ By the time Serena woke up the next morning, it was some few minutes before 9:30am. She shook her head sadly as she dropped her phone. For the first time she slept for over twelve hours and waking up, she seemed to have forgotten the events of the previous day, surely, sleep do have a way of erasing sad memories. She had concluded as she picked up her tootbrush and headed to her bathroom. She returned a minute later, walked towards the mirror which was attached to her wardrobe, she opened her mouth and admired her sparkling white teeth. She opened it wider, brought out her tongue rolled it, twisted it until it hit her that she was acting weird which made her burst into laughter. She approached the window and opened the blinds only to open her mouth in shock. Inside the compound was her father's cars. "Is daddy not going to the office today?" She asked herself. Never for once has she seen her father in the house during weekdays by 8am. As early as 7am, he was out. So, what could be delaying him this morning? She asked herself as she unlocked her door and walked towards the living room. "Good morning." Dave greeted from the dinning room as soon as he saw her emerge from the hallway. "Morning bro." She replied almost to herself as she approached him. "How was your night?" He asked. "Fine o." She replied as she sat on the chair next to his. "Daddy never comot?" She found herself asking in pidgin in front of the principled Dave who believed pidgin is meant for the illiterates who desperately wanted to be classified as English Language speaker. "Him still dey o." To her suprise he replied in pidgin and she couldn't help but laugh. "What nau, did I fumble with it?" He asked innocently with a smile. "Fumble ke? You got it right." She replied. Something was definitely wrong somewhere, even though she was happy that something was wrong, because the Dave of the previous week would never sit down to have a two minute conversation with her. Even when he does, he made sure there is a frown on his face. But the new Dave here felt comfortable talking to her, even with a smile and also broke his no pidgin principle. Surely, whatever gave Dave the change of heart should better continue with the good job it started. "I think you should go and greet him." He said calmly. "Are you sure?" She asked with fear all over her face. "He is your father isn't it? And he can't kill you. Abeg, go greet am jor." He replied with a smile. After contemplating for a while, she stood up and just then, he rounded up his meal. "Seriously Dave, you are a changed man o." She said as she packed his plates ready to take them to the kitchen, something she had never done before for him alone. "Really?" "Seriously. And I want to know the reason behind this sudden change." She said. "Fine, I'll sneak out of office today and will take you somewhere. There you'll know the reason behind the sudden change." He replied. "Wow! Dave wants to sneak out under the watchful eye of his oga and papa." She let out a hearty laugh and as she made to walk into the kitchen, she froze and the plate dropped and subsequently shattered into pieces. "Good morning dad." She stammered. "Morning Princess." He replied with total indifference, without looking at her or the plates she just broke. "Let go boy." He said as he dropped his briefcase on the nearest couch and walked out of the house. As expected, Dave picked the briefcase, but this time he handed it to Serena. "Follow him to the car and tell him you are sorry about the woeful result." He said and followed his father. Serena immediatly held the briefcase firmly and followed her brother with series of question on her mind. "Did he just call me princess?" "Does that mean he is cool with me?" "It was like he forced himself to say it. Maybe he meant it afterall." She thought as she walked towards the land rover, but to her suprise, Dave was unlocking the doors of the small toyota. She watched her steps as she opened the backdoor and dropped the briefcase on the seat. "Dad....am sorry about..." She was stammering when the gate was opened by the gateman and Stephanie walked into the compound. What does she want again? --to be continued-- |
__________________________________________ Serena was lying on the floor in her semi dark room. The time was 6:5pm and for the last two hours, after her encounter with her angry father, she had restricted herself to her room. Afterall, she had succeeded in getting the word 'disappointment' out of her father's mouth for the third time in two weeks. She wanted to tell her father she was sorry, but what was she sorry about? She couldn't tell. Even though she wanted to beg her father, she still couldn't bring herself to do it, she just stood defiantly in front of him and cried inside without shedding a single tear. But all hell was let loose when she entered her room. That moment, she realised the implication of scoring 191 in UTME exam. Another extra year. Her mind drifted back to Stephanie's call, how would she handle the news of her failure? She would definitely mock her and make life hell for her, but that is if she told her her score. But knowing Stephanie, she could go any length to get a glimpse of her score. The door creaked and the next second, even though everywhere was getting dark, she could still make out Dave's figure as he walked in, using his phone backlight as torch. "Serena." He called as he got to her empty bed. "I am here." Serena replied weakly. He walked to the side of the bed, bent down, held her two hands and helped her up. "Are you okay?" He asked her made her sit on the bed. "Am fine." She replied with a weak smiled. "Are you sure?" He asked. "Uhnn uhnnn." Her voice threatened to break but she held her breathe. After almost a minute of silence, he spoke again. Probably he was searching for the right words to use at the moment. "Dad told me about you score. How did you do it? What happened?" He asked, the cocern evident in her voice. Even though they weren't close siblings, Serena still felt the sadness in his voice. "I don't know what went wrong." She replied. Silence enveloped the room for another minute before he spoke again. "Except the exam body made use of bad computer, I don't believe this is your score. I mean, for the last two months, you are always at home 24/7. Tell me, who do you do while at home? Eat and sleep? If you had prepared very well, you should at least make the benchmark of two hundred. One hundred and ninety one is nothing to write home about. And you know dad will never settle for the less." she has been expecting this, she knew he would definitely yab her and put the blame on her. "There is no point repeating what dad had already told me, I know I failed because I didn't prepare. Lets talk about something else." She thought. And as if he could read her mind, he expertly changed the topic. "So, what do you intend to do now? I mean, UI won't accept anything less than two hundred. Do you plan purchasing the change of institution form or what?" He asked. "I know UI is out of it. I think I will just purchase Ede polytechnic form and hope for the best." She replied. "Are you just knowing dad? He won't give you a kobo to purchase the form. If its anything short of the University, forget it. He won't even support your going to a state university." Dave replied. "But no fedral university in the South west will take below two hundred." She added sadly. "I'll talk to Nathan, I think there are some one hundred and ninety courses in Unilorin. At least last year, there was. Hopefully, there will be this year too, but first, you need to do a change of course." Dave explained. "But don't put your hopes so high, Dad might not buy the idea of going for a change of course, he wants you to spend that extra year at home. And he won't let you go to a private Uni either. Just pray that he accepts, I will talk to him. There is no way you are spending an extra year at home." Serena looked at her brother searchingly, for the first time, he wasn't on their father's side. "Thank you bro." She said with a smiled. "Don't thank me yet. Pray he accepts and bear it in mind that you deserve a spank for not getting two hundred at least." He said with asmile. Like seriously, Dave is making jokes? She asked herself. Five minutes later he left her room and she was once again back with her thoughts. Will he let me take the change of institution form? Will he support a change in my course? What will Stephanie say if she hear about my score? Were the question on her mind as she drifted into sleep. END OF CHAPTER 9 |
Next update to drop in minutes. |
--continuation-- Daniel was seated on his chair and Magaret(his secretary) sat astride him as they indulge in hot romance "We shouldn't be doing this." Daniel moaned as the romance grew hotter. Magaret ignored him and took his lips in hers. She knew he wanted it, he was almost a maniac, he can't do without s*x and according to the story he told her, he had been avoiding his wife for weeks, which means he no longer have s*x with her. "Mag, stop it. We can do this some other time. This is an office." Daniel protested weakly. "Have you booked a room? Is there a hotel nearby?" She asked as she unbuttoned her shirt, took it off her shoulder, pressed her chest tightly against his. "Magaret." He moaned. The door into the office burst opened and Jimmy walked in. "Oh my! God! Dan, what's this?" He asked and immediately, Daniel felt the energy surge from nowhere and pushed the possesive lady off his body. "Jimmy, what are you doing here?" Daniel asked. "You called to see me, remember?" He replied before facing Magaret with a deadly look. "Hey Jimmy. I love your jacket." She winked as she seductively buttoned her shirt, tucked it into her skirt. "See you later oga." She said to Daniel before walking out of the office. "What was that about?" Jimmy asked when he was sure that Magaret had shut the door. "What?" Dan replied. "Tell me you haven't lost your decency. In your office with one sl*tty secretary. You disappointed me man." Jimmy poured out. "Its my office and I can do whatever I like. As if you are not aware of what I am going through at the moment..." He was saying. "Listen to me, you are going through nothing. Your wife has a damaged womb, you decided to avoid her. Why not file divorce? I know you can't. You are afraid of loosing your job here. And you think if Adeola gets to know about this, she'll pat you on the back? Even if she can't have a child of her own, she still deserve your respect. And if you can't give her one, then divorce." Jimmy said. "Why are you here?" Daniel asked changing the topic. "Its about Tina and your son. I don't think that lady is ready to tell the boy the truth o. With the look of things, I think it is high time you stepped into the picture. Meet with the boy and tell him about yourself. I have done my part, I have registered the name, Daniel Martins in his head, he is curious to know who Daniel Martins is, the ball is in your court." Jimmy explained. Daniel breathe in deeply. "So, what do I do?" He asked. "I suggest you visit Tina at home. I have the address. Go there, talk to her and thing'll be fine." Jimmy replied. Jimmy ringing phone prevented them from talking any further. "Hello..." Yes? This is Daniel Matins." "What? Which hospital?" He hung up, faced his friend. "Adeola is in the hospital." He announced. "What happened?" Jimmy was out of the office before he could complete the statement. ----------- Clara had a smile of content on her face as she pulled up in the parking lot of the 'Omo Oodua club.' "Hello sir, are you inside already?" She asked. "Yes." Came the masculine voice. She alighted from her car and walked into the relaxation centre which is mainly for the elderly men. "Good evening sir." She greeted as she sat beside an elderly fierce looking man. "Good evening Clara." The man replied. "I came to discuss the next line of action with you. Getting Christina out of the way is the next chapter in our script." Clara began. "Really?" The man asked with a forced smile. "Yes sir. I have challenged her innocence on Idris death and the Legal dept have taken it up. I am sure she won't pull through." Clara explained. A minute later, the man had not replied. "Sir, did you hear me?" Clara asked. "Of course. Its just that, I don't think we should take Tina off. You know the girl is a very good girl. You remember when I was the director, she did me so man goods. Lets scrap out that part from our script." The man replied. "Sir, this is meant to be a revenge mission. Forget about the goods she did you. Tina got me this job, and I will make sure I get her sacked." she replied. "Sir, have you forgotten how Tina attested to Collin's ability to lead and called yours a ruse. Tina cost you your job, she made sure Collins was instated as the director while you were transferred to the ministry, it doesn't work that way. Tina must pay." She continued. "Fine, we get her through her son. I'll speak to my boys." The man who was the ex-director of N.A.T.U said. "Good." Clara said and the next minute, a waiter came around with a plate of pepper soup and a bottle of beer. --to be continued-- Anybody with an idea of what Clara and the fierce looking boss is up to? |

__________________________________________ Serena removed the last piece of clothing on her body, picked up her towel and walked into the bathroom. Even though she returned from the exam hall two and half hours ago, she hadn't had the opportunity to change her cloth. The impromptu family meeting she was made to take part of was still haunting her, afterall, her Uncles and aunty had agreed that her mother should return to the house or he allowed the children visit her once in while, but he refused bluntly. Even though she had a feeling her father would in the end bow to the pressure from his family, she strongly had a feeling that there was something going on between her father and Stephanie's mum. She couldn't place it, but the show of generousity from her father was just too much. "Only time would tell." She had concluded as she walked out of the bathroom minutes later. After drying her body with a seperate towel, she got dressed simply in a blue top and a black jean short. Her ringing phone got her attention and she made for her reading table. Without checking the screen, she picked the call. "Hello Serena I made it." The excitement was quite evident in the caller's voice. "Please, who is this?" She asked calmly. "Check you screen.." Whoever was on the other side of the line replied. Boldly written on her screen was Stephanie. "Yes? What's the matter?" Serena asked angrily. "Hey! Chillax na. I got 256 in my exams." Stephanie screamed. Serena didn't know when she exclaimed "wow!" But quickly got herself together. "So, what do I do with that? Start running on the street because you got 256?" Stephanie broke into a scornful laugh. "I only called to tell you that I am not as dumb as you think. Thank God I was seated beside you and you didn't see me cheat or did you? Am waiting for your woeful result tho." With this she hung up. Her revelation kind of got to Serena and she felt bad about attacking Serena the other time. Even though she truly got her WAEC result thanks to the special centres in villages, she shouldn't have said that in public. Moreso, this is their second time of writing the UTME exam, the previous year she had scored 176 in the paper test while Stephanie who sat the computer based had 218. But unfortunately, she couldn't secure admission anywhere except colleges of education, while Stephanie couldn't secure admission because she still needed her complet o'levels. This year again, Stephanie had set the records between them straight, she just needed a score above 200 to be qualified to settle for any course in the university. And since she was yet to recieve her own text message, she decided to say hi to her brother and if possible, ask him why Mama Londoner referred to him as being rude while she was with them. "Serena, come here." No sooner had she walked out of her room that she heard her father's voice. With shaky hands, she shut her door and walked into the living room. "Yes dad." she said as she stood before him, expecting the worst. "What were you thinking when you were blabbing in front of Mama Londoner and others? Did I tell you I am going out with a woman presently? Why Stephanie's mum and not someone else? Not even my secretary. I only picked them up this morning because she was your friend's mother. You and I know I don't pick people on the street while driving. Are you out of you mind?" And the father-daughter relationship they had shared in the last three days had gone sour again. "Dad, it was just a slip of tongue. I was actually deep in thoughts, so by the time I came around, I blurted out the first thing that came to me oblivious of my environment or what was being discussed." She lied. "Serena, I know you have learnt bad things and lying is one of them. Why were you thinking about the woman that time? What a coincidence." Her father replied. "Anyways, I have seen the type of girl that you have become. Even when you have everything at your disposal, the best you could do is leave your books and focus on things that has nothing to do with you and your life. Are you being influenced by friends or your mother?" He continued. "Check it." He said handing his phone to her. She took it fearfully and on display was a message from JAMB. Than it dawned on her that, she used her father's number during the registration process. "What?" She screamed. --to be contined-- |
I will just drop one more update here and we'll call it a day on The Thomas. To the lovers of Serena, you may not like what is about to come for your beloved girl, but one secret. I dnt like Serena. Looooool |
--continuation-- Tina was seated in her office and her son, Christopher was seated uncomfortably in front of her when the door opened and the N.A.T.U director, Collins walked in. "Hey Chris." Collins said. "Uncle Col, good morning or afternoon?" Christopher replied. "How are you?" Collins asked. "Am good, but bored." Christopher replied. "Hey! You shouldn't be. Here is lively enough to make your day interesting." Collins said. "Yeah. You are right, but not with me seated in mum's office on the visitor's chair and staring at her in silence." He replied and they all laughed. "Could you please excuse your mum and I?" Collins asked. "You could take a tour around the building. You'll love the exterior. Do you know we now have sporting facilities and a gym? You can look around." "Oh! That sounds great." His face lit up in happiness. "Do you still remember the way around here?" His mother spoke for the first time since Collins entered. "Yes I do, and even if I missed my way, I can always press the emergency button." He replied. "Ok good. Have this, to be able to walk around." Tina said handling her Identity card to the boy who hung in on his neck. And few seconds later, he walked out of the office. "Who are you calling?" Collins asked when she saw Tina pick up the intercom. "The security." She replied. "Hello, Agent Tina on the line. My son, Christopher would be taking a tour around the building, get someone keep a watchful eye on him and make sure he doesn't go near the gate." She said and hung up. "So, how's Mark?" Collins asked. "I haven't been to the hospital, but the doctor promised to keep me posted on the situation of things." She replied. "That's great then, but I would have loved him being treated by our medical staffs. That way, security is assured, but anyways, we just have to let this slide." Collins said, almost to himself. "Did you get the blueprint sent to your table?" She asked moments later. "Yeah... I got it. What's it all about? The Private investigator? Why recommend him for the Agency?" He replied. "Like it was written in the report, the man is really in a class of his own and I would have loved if he could work with us here. You know, he might know a thing about the event leading Idris death." Tina explained. "It still doesn't make any sense. We can't trust these people. I actually commend him for a job well done today, but haaving him on our side will be disastrous. He could work agaist us later on. He may be used. Tina, just let him be. If you need his help call him and let him work for us from the outside. Bringing him inside reveals a lot of things to him...." Collins was saying when a gentle knock sounded on the door and over a second later, the door opened and a young man walked in. "Good morning Miss Tina." He greeted with a slight bow as he checked his wristwatch to be sure. "Good morning Mr Collins." "We have met today already." Collins replied, while Tina acknowledged his greeting with a smile. "Have your sit." Collins said pointing to the second chair on hi right. The young man muttered a 'thank you' to himself as he sat down. "From the Legal department is it?" Tina who has been trying to recollect where she had see the face asked. She remembered running into him a couple of times at the entrance and sometimes in the parking lot. "Yeah. I am Edward." He replied. "There is no doubt, you are Headward." Tina thought staring at the man's head. "I have been asked to give you this." He said handing a brown envelope to her. She knew nothing good can come out of the visit of anybody from the legal department which also served as the disciplinary panel. "You have been asked to show up at the panel briefing at ten tomorrow morning." He said. "Panel briefing? Why?" She asked as she scanned through the letter. "Idris death? Who made this call?" She asked angrily. "I am not allowed to say that here. Get prepared to answer questions from the panel tomorrow." The young man said bowed one more time and walked out. "Collins, what's going on?" She asked. "I have no idea." Collins replied. "Stop it. I know you knew about this, don't you?" She asked. "There was nothing I could do. The filing has been done." He replied. "But you signed it on." She said. "I have no choice." He replied moving close to her. "Who pinned this on me?" She asked. "Clara." He replied. "Dammit!" She knew it. Clara was ready to frustrate life out of her. --to be continued-- You remember Clara, don't you? For those who might have forgotten her. She was the lady who drove Mark home in the previous episode. You remember the hatred and bad blood between them? |
TrishaP:Lolz.... I dnt change story line na. My stories will always go as planned. |
__________________________________________ "Jane, is it true you visited his office to discuss getting a new wife with him?" Patrick asked. "Of course I did. And I don't think there is anything wrong with it. He is divorced, and giving love another chance won't hurt, will it?" Jane replied. "That's very rude of you Jane. Your mother was not like this. Even though we were twins, she still respects me, so where did you get that from? Next time when talking in my presence, you are to be on your feet." Mama Londoner scolded. "Am sorry Aunty." Jane replied. "Jane, let me ask you, if Wole decides to re-marry at this stage, what will be the motive behind it? Is it to have more kids or what?" Patrick asked. "Uncle, not have more children, but to know how it feels to be in love." She replied. "Let me ask you this question. Do you enjoy the relationship that exist between Wole and his children? Do you like how they relate? Serena as his wife, Dave his best friend and confidant. Don't you like it? What do you think will happen if a woman should join this family aside Anita? She will succeed in turning father against his children for no just cause. Jane, you don't pray for such do you? Your children can't survive it." Patrick said. "Uncle, I never said he should take another to the alter. All am saying is, he should get himself a woman to take care of him." Jane defended. "When has a grown up daughter." Patrick asked. "Won't she go to school? Won't she get married?" Jane retorted. "What's your own problem gan sef?" Serena wanted to ask, but the consequence of saying such sealed her mouth. "Wait till she is married first and even before then, Dave may decide to settle down and start his family in his father's house. Won't his wife take care of Wole and moreso, did Wole tell you he can't take care of himself?" "Its like you don't understand Uncle.." Jane was saying. "Hey! That's enough. I am not getting a new wife, a woman friend or whatever. Can we please talk about some progressive." Wole said to his younger sister who kept quiet immediately. "Wole, listen to me, you may decide not to marry a new wife, something I am strongly against. I am your mother, I can't lead you astray, you need Anita back in this house. Not because of anybody, but because of your girl. She is gradually growing into a woman, she need someone with experience by her side. Only her mother can do it, she needs advice, she needs to be put through some certain things. Wole, you can't do all these." Mama Londoner began. "You see, I have seen some things in her that needs correction. If you can't have her mother back in the house, let her visit her mother once in a while." she continued. "Mama, what futher 'putting through' does she need?" Wole asked. "She would be saying goodbye to teenage life very soon. She'll be in school very soon, on her own, making her own decision, deciding when to go to class or not. Wole, you will seize to be a part of her daily life once she resume schooling. Take it or leave it, Wole, she'll make friends with whom she'll share secrets with. Wole, do you know the implication of that? Friends who still need to be advised will be advicing your daughter and do you know what they say about friends? You trust your friend more than you siblings and even your parents." Mama Londoner said. Oluwole breathe in deeply. "Aunty, let me see you outside." Patrick said and walked out of the house, Mama Londoner followed. They returned minutes later with satisfactory smiles on their faces. They were able to conclude that if Anita was allowed to visit her children once in a while, it won't take time before she rediscover her love life with her husband. "I don't want to see Anita in this house ever again. The children can go to see her on my permission, but stepping into this house is impossible." Wole said angrily. "It seems like Wole has other plans. Do you care to share it with us?" Mama Londoner asked as if she had read her nephew's mind. "Stephanie's mum." The new outspoken Serena blurted out and all eyes turned on her including her father's who was the only person who understood her. "What's that?" Mama Londoner asked. "Nothing." She replied. --to be continued-- |

--continuation-- "Mum, I need to get back to school." Christopher said a few minutes later. "You said what?" She asked. "Our school bus is leaving." He repeated. "No, you are going back with me to the office. I don't think I can leave you in the custody of you in the custody of your teachers. At least, not today anymore." "Mum, what has my teachers got to do with this? Is it their fault? And moreso, I wasn't hit, so I think I should just return to school." He said. "I am glad you weren't hit, and I think its high time you stopped partaking in extra curricular activities. It is you in sports, it will always be you in debates and quizes. Christopher, face your books and graduate with top grades." Tina complained. "Mum, this is not a time to talk about this. Can I get back to school?" He asked, he was visibly getting angry. "Take the key, go and wait for me in the car." She said and walked towards the education minister who was having a discussion with the Lagos state commissioner for Defence. After exchanging pleasantries with the two men. "You know, that was a brave act there." The Minister said. "Thank you sir." she replied. "And what about the other man? Will he make it?" The minister asked. "He should. Even though the head of the medical team is kind of unsure about it, but the man in question is strong, so I expect him to pull through." She explained and glanced back in the direction where the commissioner was staring at. There stood her son Christopher discussing with a young man who had his back to her. And mere looking at her figure, she could feel her heart burning, the figure looked familiar, plus her son defied her orders. "Is that your son?" The minister asked when he had joined them in staring. "Yes sir." she replied. "You know, the boy is really brilliant. I went through the video of the preliminary stages of the debate and I am awed. He'll make a good orator." The minister said. "Thank you sir." She replied curtly, but one would clearly see she was proud of her son. "Please I'll be right back." She said and marched towards her son. "Chris!" She screamed, and immediately, the boy stepped aside to see his angry mother, while the man talking to him turned too. "Oh my God! Not again." She said as she stopped in her tracks, trying to prevent herself from collapsing. "Mum, what's the matter?" Christopher asked running towards his mother. "Get off me." She shoved him away violently. She glared at Jimmy who was approaching her by now, hands in his pocket and a smile on his face. "Hi Tina. Its good to finally see you after so many years." He said. "Oh my God! Jimmy, what are you looking for? What do you have with my son? What are you doing here?" She threw questions at him. "Which one do I answer first?" He asked. "Jimmy, please stay away from my son and I. We have nothing to do with you. Okay?" She replied. "But the boy needs to know the truth. He is no longer a kid." He said. "What truth?" She asked feigning innocence. "There is no point playing dumb. You and I know where this leads us. But I will stay away from you, but your son, I doubt it." He said confidently before walking away after giving Chris a goodbye wink which the boy returned. "Now lets get out of here you devil." She said dragging him by the ear towards the parking lot. "Ouch! Mum, it hurts." He cried, but she would have none of that. She unlocked the car door and shoved him into the passenger seat. "Madam." A female voice called from behind forcing her to stop. "Yes? What is it?" She asked rudely. "The school bus is leaving and Chris should be with the other students." The lady said. Tina sized the lady up for roughly thirty seconds before speaking. "Who are you?" She asked. "I am a teacher in his school." She replied. "Good. Take care of the others and return them safely to school. I will take care of my son." She said more like and advice. Still in shock of how Tina spoke to her, by the time she came back to life, Tina had driven out of the stadium even though she should have waited for the FBI team probably begin investigation, but right now, she need to get out fast. "How did that man know you would be here today? And why didn't you tell me about the debate?" She broke the silence. "I told him you won't be there to cheer me up, so he said he is gonna come." Christopher replied. "Did you tell me about it? You only assumed I won't be coming. That's very bad of you Chris." Tina began angrily. "Now, see how everything played out. The man you invited came late and I who you didn't invite came early and I still save people's live, including yours, something that man couldn't have done." She continued. "But, Chris why?" She asked. "Mum, he said something about a secret. Do you care to share?" "Shut your mouth there or I do it for you." --to be continued-- |

__________________________________________ The moment he entered the compound, he could guess the set of people he would be meeting inside his living room. His elder brother's Mercedez benz was parked just a few steps away from the front door, a black coloured Honda CRV was parked beside the Mercedez while his younger brother Collin's car was parked in a way, such that its side was facing the first two car's rear. He could guess that Pa Patrick would be in the living room, the owner of the Honder CRV, he couldn't say while he was dead sure that Collins would be in there with Jane. Afterall, they had grown up together and they move about together to an extent that, one begin to doubt if Jane was married to Collins or her husband. "I'll enter through the kitchen." Serena said as soon as they got to the entrance. "You won't say hi to them?" Her father asked. She reluctantly followed her father into the living room. "Ah ah. They are here finally, husband and wife." An elderly woman said. "Mama Londoner. Good afternoon ma." Oluwole prostrated to an extent that his chest was almost touching the ground. Serena was suprised to see her father respect someone that much. Even though she had never met the woman, Mama Londoner in person, but she hadspoken with her on phone and from what she gathered, the old lady was her paternal grandmother's twin sister, which means, she was Oluwole aunty and Oluwole her nephew. "When did you return into the country?" Oluwole asked as he sat down beside his Aunty. "I returned last week and believe me, I planned visiting you the day I arrived, but Patrick said I should hold on, and here I am today." The old lady explained. "Mama, you should have called me since then, at least I would have visited you at home and also bring your children along. You don't know any of them do you?" "I know this one. This rude boy." She said pointing to Davies. "I don't know his younger brother and this young lady here." She said referring to Nathan and Serena. She beckoned on Serena to come closer. "How are you my daughter. You look gorgeous, hope boys have not been coming here to disturb you?" She asked and Serena blushed. "Stand up, let me see my girl. Turn around." "Mama Londoner, you still haven't changed." Even though Oluwole had forgotten about his siblings, since he didn't meet them in the living room, he concluded that they were somewhere having a meeting and just when he wanted to ask about them, Patrick walked out and his younger ones followed. After exchanging pleasantries with them, they all sat down in silence, even though Mama Londoner was still whispering something into Serena's ear, much to Collin's annoyance. The reason for his anger, he couldn't say, maybe because he hated Serena, the same way he despised her mother or because he didn't like the way she got on very well with Mama Londoner. "Let the children excuse us." He said, anger evident in his tone. "Children? These ones are not children, they are grown up. Come to London and see their mates and how they move about." Mama Londoner replied. "But this is a gathering involving adults. They should be in their rooms." Collins still protested. "Agreed, but this one who is already running his father's company is a kid abi? Even you, Collins, you are a kid to your siblings. Just sit down and lets discuss things." Mama Londoner replied him. Silence enveloped the room and they all looked at each other. "Jane, can you tell this honourable house why we are here." Patrick said and just as if everything has been planned, Jane rose up, greeted everyone present and stated their reason for coming. Wole wanted to talk, but a wave of hand from Patrick told him to keep quiet. "Mama, what do you have to say?" Patrick asked. "I don't have much to say, afterall, this issue concern Wole a lot, as well as his children, we need their opinion as to what they think should be the next step." "Thank you mama. I married Anita legally, in the face of law, I gave her the ring, and I have honourably collected the ring in the face of the law. And by the way Uncle, did you ask Jane the role she played during the divorce process? She was in my office late last week asking me to give love a second chance. Why the sudden change of heart? Must I have Anita back in this house? Is she not happy wherever she she is? Uncle, please, you were not around when these things happened, you probably would advice me against going to court for divorce. You would by yourself chase Anita out of theis house." --to be continued-- |

CHAPTER 5 Danny Lovato was standing in front of Colonel Mark Anthony with red bloodshot eyes while a visibly angry Mark stood beside the tv stand. "But sir, you are making me feel incompetent. It wasn't like I sent you amateurs to finish this job. These men are one of the best in my armies, but I think the security agents who controlled the situation are experts." Lovato began. "Listen to me man, expertise or no expertise, you've been in this game for a long time, don't you know about tricks? Can't you trick them? Can't you outsmart them? If you want to attack the Minister for education as planned, instead of setting the bomb around where he was seated, can't you set it on his car? Then whoever wants to avert it keeps running around." Mark Anthony asked. "You do have a point sir. But remember, these boys loaded under your nose, you shoul give them a bit of incentive, being an ex millitary man. And moreso, the bomb was first placed inside a truck, but the useless captain who went over to an hotel to do only God knows what, as well as the useless Lagos commander who took a spy into his room as a worker and he threw caution to the air. He made all his calls in the lady's presence, and being a spy, she recorded everything, sent it to her boss and security agents were waiting for them at the hotel, by the time they arrived. It was at the last minute that I made a call and sent one of my men to change the location of the bomb and thanks to the expertise of these agents once again, their guess was right, because they located the bomb inside the executive box, and even though they couldn't stop it. They ended up evacuating everybody and the bomb went off without achieving our aim." Lovato explained. "You have been talking about expertise and everything as if you are not an expert yourself. Or what do you call this type of failure?" Mark Anthony asked. "I am expert in my field, but those against me are experts too. And even the Nigerian government are experts because they have simply wised up. They now work directly with America. They have a close working relationship with the CIA and I learnt one of their top agents is working for Nigeria against us." Danny Lovato explained. This revelation didn't shock Mark Anthony much, afterall, The United states of America as they are known to be a world power, loved interfering in things that doesn't concern them. So, their assisting Nigeria is not suprising. But the CIA doing the job is a major concern. The CIA as they are known would stop at nothing unless they bring an end to these madness and they would start by establishing a direct relationship with the Nigerian Embassy and the American embassy and immigration services of the two nations to control and have a first hand knowledge of the entry and and exit into the two countries. But that was the least of his worries right now. "I lost about six of my men today and three were arrested with injuries, while one escaped. And only one man did the job." Danny Lovato explained. "One man? How possible?" "Well, he led the team to Ocean view hotel, got a first hand idea of what my men are up to, then rushed over to the stadium to destroy everything. Even though I am not suprised, he is CIA." Danny explained. "His profile?" Mark Anthony asked. "I don't have it here, but one of my men is getting facts about him." Danny replied as he slumped on the nearest sofa. "Here sir." A young man handed an android tablet device to Danny Lovato who quickly went through the profile. "He is even a Nigerian-American." He said as he gave the device to his employer. "Mark Ashimolowo?" Mark Anthony asked. "My son?" He asked himself. "Yes sir, Mark, that's his name. You know him?" Danny asked. "Not at all. Am just suprised, his being a Yoruba." He replied. "God punish you Grace. Is this how you intend to set my son against me? You'll pay." He though as he angrily swept all he had on his table to the floor. "Are you okay sir?" Danny asked as he rushed to hold him. "Am fine. Get off me." He screamed. "Get him the nurse." Danny commanded the young guy who brought the tablet and at once he left the room. "I don't need the nurse. I need Grace." He said before he passed out. --to be continued-- |
__________________________________________ After the short introduction of Labake to her father, Serena hopped into the car and sat on the passenger seat. She brought out her almost broken phone and started playing game, while she inserted her USD card into the car's stereo player and reduced the volume to the barest minimum. As she played with her phone, she allowed the music to flow into her head and also left a listening hear to the arguement her father was having with his new found friend. All she understood from their talks was, 'politics', 'election', 'President Jonathan,' 'PDP.' 'Buhari' and 'APC.' She listened as old men not less than fifty years argued back and forth. Talking about their encounter with a certain politician in 1993 after the June 12 election. She knew her father was no good politician, but she loved how he expertly analysed the countries economy and she was proud of him. Stephanie's mum was not left out, even though the basis of her argument was that Nigerian politicians have abandoned God in their dealings. And slowly as more candidates trooped out, the men left one after the other to drive their wards home. "Can I have your card?" She had heard the question many a times from her father. She had never seen a day that her father would return home with no new card. "My car is parked over there." One of the men replied. "My daughter will follow you to get it." Mr Oluwole Thomas said loud enough that Serena need not to be told what was expected of her. She slowly alighted from the car and followed the man at a distance. "How was the exam?" The man asked when he had given her the card. "Great." She replied. "Your dad is a great person." He heard the man say before he entered his car and for the first time she was standing very close to a Mercedez G-wagon. No way, this man is richer than her father. But hey! Dad doesn't waste money on cars, she had concluded. "You look pretty." A female voice called from the backseat of the car, but she couldn't get to look at her properly before the car zoomed off, so she just waved. "Who are we waiting for?" She asked angrily as she shut the car door. "Nobody, but you." Her father replied. "What about Steph..." Her voice trailed off when she saw her through the rear mirror seated comfortably at the backseat with her mother. "Like you cared about my well being. You left me all to myself after the exam." Stephanie replied. "You don't deserve my care." Serena replied a bit angry as her father drove out of the ICT center. "We shall see." Stephanie said jokingly, followed by a plastic laugh. The two adults in the car also joined in the laughter much to Serena's annoyance. "Can't you people notice the friction between us? Can't you see that we are not cool with each other?" She asked herself angrily. Then Stephanie's voice came again as she sang along with the song being played on the car stereo. She his angrily, thrust her hand forward and removed her memory card adapter. "Leave it. I am enjoying the songs." Her father said without looking at her. She reluctantly reinserted the adapter and the song resumed. Her eyes fell on the rear mirror once again and caught Stephanie growling at her with tongue out and an expression full of mockery. "So, Madam, how do you intend to get your car out of here?" Her father asked calmly as he drove pass Stephanie mum's car. "I'll call a mechanic to come fix it." she replied. "How about if I call mine to fix it? I mean, he is a specialist in your type of car. He'll fix it within an hour and bring it home for you." Why the sudden nice attitude? Was the question on her mind after they had dropped Stephanie and her Mum close to their house and as they head home she couldn't help but stare at her father with the side of her eyes. "Why are you staring at me?" He asked. "I am not." She replied and quickly faced the window. "You were. You can't help but notice how handsome your dad has become. Stop drooling, I am married." He said playfully as he brought the car to a halt the moment the traffic light turned red. "Dad! I wasn't drooling. I was just...." She kept quiet when she saw the mockery smile on her father's face. There is no point arguing. "But, did he just say he is married? Married to who? Jesus? Or Mary?" She smiled and the next minute, the light turned red and her father stepped on the gas. Five minutes later, her father honked outside the gate, only for the gateman to come outside to meet him. "Sir, you can't drive in." The man said. "Why?" "The compound is filled with cars." He explained. Then his eyes fell on the car which Davies drove to work in the morning? Outside the compound. "What's going on?" He asked himself as he parked properly behind Davies car and followed Serena into the compound. --tbc-- |
--continuation-- Mark in company of his bike man sped into the stadium and without thinking twice, he rushed over to the parking lot. "Hey...hey." A policeman called. Mark glared at him, hissed and made for the section where the trucks were parked. "Are you deaf?" The policeman asked. Mark ignored him, yanked the door open, hopped into the only odd van in the section, but a big problem surfaced, there was no key. "Hey man, I am CIA agent, there is a bomb in this truck. Can you inform the organisers of this event?" Mark asked as he flashed his Identity card, as well as his badge. "Here is the key." He policeman handed the key to him and immediately, he switched on the ignition and roughly backed the car out of the compound, not minding if there was anyone on the way. ----------- Tina parked her car by the roadside, removed a traffic symbol from the trunk and placed it at the centre of the road, therefore, bringing all vehicles to a halt and a few seconds later, Mark drove past her. She was forced to check her watch and she realised that they still had ten seconds before the bomb detonates. "Mark, you have five seconds." She screamed as she ran after the truck and immediately, Mark pulled the brake therefore, bringing the tuck to a halt at the centre of the road. "Secure every entry and exit in the stadium, no one is allowed to leave or enter." Mark ordered as he alighted from the truck, and ran after Tina towards the stadium which was a few yards away. Tina stopped running and waited until Mark caught up with her. "Ten seconds should be up already, isn't it?" She asked looking at the truck which still remained. Mark stared at the truck then, back to her. "The VIP box." He said and took off, while Tina followed back into the stadium. "No one is allowed into the stadium." A policeman said. "Are you nuts? Don't you know me?" Mark asked. "That's the instruction, no entry, no exit." "I gave the instruction. I am Agent Mark, are you crazy?" Mark ranted angrily, but all the policeman did was to turn his back to the gate, an action which infruriated Mark, he stretched his hand through the bars and grabbed the policeman's neck. "Unlock this goddam gate and let me in." He said, but the policeman still struggled. "Mark." Tina screamed as she saw Mark strangle the man till he became unconscious. "He is not dead. Get the medics." He said as he jumped on a SUV parked just infront of the walls and jumped into the compound. Without bothering to get the key to open the gate for Tina, he took off towards the stadium, even though he had never been to the stadium, but the few he had seen in America, the way to the VIP box are always the same. "There is a bomb in the building, everybody out." He screamed at the education official who were just about kick starting the National debate. "If you can hear me, a bomb detector is needed right away in the vip box." He said into his communication device. "Your game is up." A masculine voice thundered. Mark turned to face the man who held a gun with a wicked smile on his face. "That's the bomb over there." The man said pointing towards the extreme. And that moment, Mark did the unthinkable by running towards the man who foolishly released two shots which broke the glass used in constructing the VIP box and he lunged an attack on the man whose gun dropped in the process. Mark need not to be told, he ran out and jumped, thanks to the broken glasses and the next second, he landed on the spectator's chairs. "Mark, over here." He heard Tina call from the centre of the pitch and lazily, he dragged himself away from the chairs. One last row before he got to the ground level, the bomb detonated with a lound blast and the VIP box came crashing as well as the other parts of the stadium. "Are you okay?" He saw her beautiful face, but he could only smile weakly until he passed out. "We need medical attention here." She said to no one in particular as she lifted a very big concrete which fell on Mark's leg away. "Mum." A familiar voice called and she turned. There stood amidst thousands of student, her one and only Christopher. "What are you doing here?" She asked as the boy ran towards her and jumped on her they they almost fell. Her mind was in great turmoil, first, Mark must not die. Secondly, the reason why the bomb didn't go off in three minutes like she was made to understand and thirdly, why the bomb was not found in the truck, but rather inside the stadium's structure. Loud applause broke out and sounded around the stadium, but she wasn't interested in why they were clapping or those who were clapping. "Will he survive?" She asked a lady dressed in a madical suit. "He needs medical attention." The lady replied. "Then give it to him." She shouted at the lady. END OF CHAPTER 4 |
