Phones / What Is 5G? Here’s What You Need To Know About The New Network by DaBillionnaire: 12:06pm On Mar 06, 2019 |
5G smartphones are already taking over in 2019: we've already seen big-name phones like the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, the Huawei Mate X, and the LG V50 ThinQ show off their 5G capabilities, and plenty more are on the way. Bear in mind that Qualcomm President Christiano Amon, has said that "every Android vendor is working of 5G right now", plus all the 5G tech we saw at CES 2019 and MWC 2019 – and it's clear that by the end of 2019, 5G will have well and truly arrived on the scene. The transition to new fifth-generation cellular networks — known as 5G for short — will also affect many other kinds of devices, including industrial robots, security cameras, drones and cars that send traffic data to one another. This new era will leap ahead of current wireless technology, known as 4G, by offering mobile internet speeds that will let people download entire movies within seconds and most likely bring big changes to video games, sports and shopping. Officials in the United States and China see 5G networks as a competitive edge. The faster networks could help spread the use of artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies. Expect to hear more about 5G soon at events like the MWC Barcelona (formerly the Mobile World Congress) in February in Spain. Wireless service providers including AT&T and Verizon are already talking up 5G. And device makers are previewing gadgets that will work with the technology. Samsung recently demonstrated prototypes of 5G smartphones that are expected to operate on both Verizon and AT&T networks. Many other manufacturers are racing to follow suit, though Apple is not expected in the initial 5G wave. Analysts predict that iPhones with the new technology won’t arrive until 2020. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment. Here’s what you need to know. WHAT EXACTLY IS 5G? Strictly speaking, 5G is a set of technical ground rules that define the workings of a cellular network, including the radio frequencies used and how various components like computer chips and antennas handle radio signals and exchange data. Since the first cellphones were demonstrated in the 1970s, engineers from multiple companies have convened to agree on new sets of specifications for cellular networks, which are designated a new technology generation every decade or so. To get the benefits of 5G, users will have to buy new phones, while carriers will need to install new transmission equipment to offer the faster service. HOW FAST WILL 5G BE? The answer depends on where you live, which wireless services you use and when you decide to take the 5G plunge. Qualcomm, the wireless chip maker, said it had demonstrated peak 5G download speeds of 4.5 gigabits a second, but predicts initial median speeds of about 1.4 gigabits. That translates to roughly 20 times faster than the current 4G experience. The 5G speeds will be particularly noticeable in higher-quality streaming video. And downloading a typical movie at the median speeds cited by Qualcomm would take 17 seconds with 5G, compared with six minutes for 4G. Rather than remembering to download a season of a favorite TV show before heading to the airport, for example, you could do it while in line to board a plane, said Justin Denison, a Samsung senior vice president. IS THAT THE ONLY SPEED THAT MATTERS? No. There’s another kind of speed, a lag known as latency, that may become even more important with 5G. Issue a command now on a smartphone — like starting a web search — and the response isn’t exactly immediate. A lag of 50 to several hundred milliseconds is common, partly because signals often must pass between different carrier switching centers; 5G, which uses newer networking technology, was designed to reduce latency down to a few milliseconds. It was also designed to deliver signals more reliably than earlier cellular networks, which today frequently drop bits of data that aren’t essential for tasks like watching movies on a phone. That improvement could bring many benefits, notably in fields such as virtual reality. The highest-quality VR applications now typically require bulky headsets that are connected by wire to nearby personal computers that generate 3-D images. With 5G, that would be off-loaded wirelessly to other machines, freeing users to move and making it easier to develop goggles the size of eyeglasses, said Cristiano Amon, president of Qualcomm’s semiconductor business. In the related field of augmented reality, people could point a smartphone camera at a football game and see both live video on the display and superimposed player statistics or other data, said Patrick Moorhead, an analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. And 5G’s impact extends to medicine and other fields that increasingly rely on high-speed connections. “If you talk about remote surgery or connected cars, you don’t want latency times to be too long,” said Fredrik Jejdling, an executive vice president at Ericsson, a maker of cellular equipment. Sprint's prospective merger partner, T-Mobile, has stressed a nationwide 5G launch in 2020, but said it was installing gear in 30 cities that would be ready when 5G smartphones appeared in 2019. Countries expected to follow the United States with 2019 rollouts of 5G include Britain, Germany, Switzerland, China, South Korea and Australia, according to a timetable compiled by Qualcomm. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/31/technology/personaltech/5g-what-you-need-to-know.html https://www.t3.com/news/best-5g-phones cc: puskin, dragnet, honsule

deepsuk: Islamic history and biography » The beginning of creation and wonders of creation. Consensus that the Earth is round Is there consensus that the Earth is round? If there is, then what is the evidence from the Qur’an or Sunnah that the Earth is round or egg shaped? Published Date: 2014-06-05 Praise be to Allah. More than one of the scholars have narrated that there is consensus that the Earth is round. For example: Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that from Abu’l-Husayn ibn al-Munaadi (may Allah have mercy on him), when he said: Imam Abu’l-Husayn Ahmad ibn Ja‘far ibn al-Munaadi narrated from the prominent scholars who are well known for knowledge of reports and major works in religious sciences, from the second level of Ahmad’s companions, that there was no difference of opinion among the scholars that the sky is like a ball. He said: Similarly they were unanimously agreed that the Earth, with all that is contains of land and sea is like a ball. He said: That is indicated by the fact that the sun, moon and stars do not rise and set over those who are in different parts of the earth at the same time; rather that occurs in the east before it occurs in the west. End quote from Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (25/195) He (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about two men who disputed about the nature of heaven and earth: were they both round bodies? One of them said that they were, but the other denied that and said there is no basis for that. What is the correct view? He replied: The heavens are round, according to the Muslim scholars. More than one of the scholars and Muslim leaders narrated that the Muslims are unanimously agreed on that, such as Abu’l-Husayn Ahmad ibn Ja‘far ibn al-Munaadi, one of the leading figures among the second level of the companions of Imam Ahmad, who wrote approximately four hundred books. Consensus on this point was also narrated by Imam Abu Muhammad ibn Hazm and Abu’l-Faraj ibn al-Jawzi. The scholars narrated that with well-known chains of narration (isnaads) from the Sahaabah and Taabi‘een, and they quoted that from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. They discussed that in detail with orally-transmitted evidence. There is also mathematical evidence to that effect, and I do not know of anyone among the well-known Muslim scholars who denied that, apart from a few of those who engaged in arguments who, when they debated with the astrologers denied it for the sake of argument and said: It may be square or hexagonal and so on. They did not deny that it could be round, but they said that the opposite of that was possible. I do not know of anyone who said that it is not round – with any certainty – apart from some ignorant people to whom no one pays any attention. End quote from Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (6/586) Abu Muhammad ibn Hazm (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Evidence for the earth being round: Abu Muhammad said: We are going to discuss some of the arguments against the idea that the earth is round. They said: There is sound evidence that the earth is round, but the common folk say otherwise. Our response – and Allah is the source of strength – is that none of the leading Muslim scholars who deserve to be called imams or leaders in knowledge (may Allah be pleased with them) denied that the earth is round, and there is no narration from them to deny that. Rather the evidence in the Qur’an and Sunnah stated that it is round. … and he quoted evidence to that effect. End quote from al-Fasl fi’l-Milal wa’l-Ahwa’ wa’l-Nihal (2/78) The evidence that the earth is round includes the following: Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “He created the heavens and earth for a true purpose; He wraps the night around the day and the day around the night” [az-Zumar 39:5]. Ibn Hazm and others quoted this verse as evidence. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The earth is round, based on the evidence of the Qur’an, reality, and scientific views. The evidence of the Qur’an is the verse in which Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “He created the heavens and earth for a true purpose; He wraps the night around [yukawwir] the day and the day around the night” [az-Zumar 39:5]. The word yukawwir (translated here as “wraps around” means to make something round, like a turban. It is well-known that night and day follow one another on earth, which implies that the Earth is round, because if you wrap one thing around another thing, and the thing that it is wrapped around is the Earth, then Earth must be round. With regard to real-life evidence, this has been proven. If a man were to fly from Jeddah, for example, heading west, he would come back to Jeddah from the east, if he flew in a straight line. This is something concerning which no one differs. With regard to the words of the scholars, they stated that if a man died in the east at sunset, and another died in the west at sunset, and there was some distance between them, the one who died in the west at sunset would inherit from the one who died in the east at sunset, if he was one of his heirs. This indicates that the earth is round, because if the earth were flat, sunset in all regions would occur at the same time. Once this is established, no one can deny it. This is not contradicted by the verses in which Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? And at the heaven, how it is raised? And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? And at the earth, how it is spread out?” [al-Ghaashiyah 88:17-20] Because the Earth is huge and its curvature cannot be seen from a short distance, it appears to be spread out and one cannot see anything that would make one fear living on it, but this does not contradict the fact that it is round, because it is very big. However they say that it is not evenly round; rather it is indented or pushed in at the north and south poles. Hence they say that it is egg-shaped. End quote from Fataawa Noor ‘ala ad-Darb Thus it is known that the Earth is round, and that is not contradicted by the fact that it is like an egg. Rather the false view is that which claims that it is flat, as the Church used to believe and for that reason used to curse and burn those scientists who said that it was round. Islam for Muslims / Evidence For The Ritual Of Stoning The Jamaraat During Hajj by DaBillionnaire: 9:22pm On Aug 23, 2018 |
Praise be to Allaah. Stoning the Jamaraat is one of the obligatory rituals of Hajj and is prescribed for everyone who intends to do this great pilgrimage. This ritual is mentioned clearly in the Sunnah and its authenticity is agreed upon by the scholars. It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) seated al-Fadl behind him on his mount, and al-Fadl said that he did not stop reciting the Talbiyah until he stoned the Jamrah. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1685) and Muslim (1282). It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he came to the largest Jamrah and put the House on his left and Mina on his right and stoned it with seven (pebbles), and he said: This is how the one to whom Soorat al-Baqarah was revealed (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) stoned it. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1748) and Muslim (1296) It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he would stone al-Jamrah al-Dunya (the Jamrah near the Khayf mosque) with seven pebbles, saying takbeer after every throw. Then he would go ahead until he reached the level ground where he would stand facing the qiblah, and he stood for a long time, offering du’aa’ and raising his hands. Then he would stone the middle pillar, then he would move to the left towards the middle ground, where he would stand facing the qiblah. He would remain there for a long time offering du’aa’ and raising his hands. Then he would stone Jamarat al-‘Aqabah from the middle of the valley, but he did not stand beside it. Then he would leave and say: This is how I saw the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) doing it. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1751). Abu Haamid al-Ghazaali (may Allaah have mercy on him) said As for the stoning of the Jamaraat, the purpose behind it is to follow the command and manifest submission and servitude to Allaah, and show complete obedience without rational thought or the ego having any part in it. The aim is also to imitate Ibraaheem (peace be upon him), when Iblees (may Allaah curse him) appeared to him in that place to instil confusion in his mind or tempt him to sin, and Allaah commanded him to throw stones at him so as to drive him away and dash his hopes. If you ever think that the shaytaan appeared to him and he saw him and that is why he stoned him, but as for me, the shaytaan did not appear to me, it should be noted that this thought is from the shaytaan and that he is the one who is putting it into your mind, so as to slow you down when you are throwing and you will imagine that it is an action in which there is nothing good and that it is like playing, so why should you bother with it? Expel him from your mind with a serious attitude and determination to throw the pebbles despite the shaytaan. Remember that you are outwardly throwing pebbles at al-‘Aqabah, but in fact you are throwing them in the face of the shaytaan and you are breaking his back with them, because nothing annoys him except your obeying the command of Allaah out of veneration for Him, simply because of His command, and the soul and mind have nothing to do with it. End quote. Ihya’ ‘Uloom al-Deen, 1/270 And Allaah knows best. source: https://islamqa.info/en/125711 cc:Sissie, mukina2 4 Likes 1 Share |
