Politics / Election Postponement :ipob/southeast Factor by dachez20(m): 9:10am On Feb 16, 2019
Could this be as a result of ipob/southeast factor. Where maybe they thought that ipob election boycott will bring low turn out in Southeast and they where counting on exploiting it, only to hear all of a sudden that ipob has called of their boycott and that forced them into last minute postponement knowing fully well that as usual it will be only way to cause easterners voting apathy, cause of the traveling involved. Been the highest traveling region. My thought though.

Hopeless Idiots are blaming Buhari for this, Buhari as a former military dictator, petroleum minister n now a democratic elected president n petroleum minister still does not have a single oil block or filling station under his name. An Atiku an ordinary VP sold all Nigerians companies sellable to himself to an extent Obasanjo was mesmerized. Now if that does not say a thing or two about integrity I wonder what will to the bigots from PDP.

Can you also prefer a mad man as a president because he doesn't own oil block . maybe when atiku was vice too babachir lawal, kemi adeosun etc were what they are under atiku too. Religion / Buhari Not Coming Back Any Time Soon. by dachez20(m): 5:58am On Feb 11, 2017
Popular Nigerian preacher and prophet, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has spoken up on the recent unrest trailing the rumoured death of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The rumours making the rounds about the president’s health status have made a lot of people ask series of questions, especially with Buhari not returning to the country on Monday, February 6 as initially promised.
So many Nigerians have spoken about the state of the nation as well as what they think about the president’s health status, with many Nigerians fearing that the unbelievable may have happened to him.
But the fearless preacher has come out to state categorically that President Buhari is still very much alive. He noted, however, that he needs serious prayers if he is to continue at the helm of affairs when he returns.
In a telephone chat with NAIJ.com on Thursday evening, Primate Ayodele said: “Since 2015, I have been telling you that Buhari cannot go for second term and that his government will have a lot of protests, now see what is happening in the country.
“There shall be rumbles with politicians and I have seen it clearly that it is an unexpected person that will emerge as Nigeria’s president in 2019. Tinubu will also want to contest, Dogara, Tambuwal, Atiku… they will miss it.”
Asked what he thinks about the rumoured death of the president, the INRI spiritual head, confirmed that he is still alive but stated however, that “his coming back needs a lot of prayers. He needs a lot of prayers to be able to come back to that seat otherwise, it might not work as we are looking at it. Only God will bring Buhari back.”

He added also that the president has to deal with certain bothering issues in the country.
“I want to tell you that the economic hardship will continue. Dasuki issue will continue, Avengers’s request must be met. CBN governor should be removed, then we can have stability in the economy.
“There will be more protests, Osinbajo will betrayed by those he trusts the most. America is in trouble presently, the world is also in trouble.
“The United Nations and the American government will be in trouble. America, Lagos, and Nigeria will break unless the right things are done.
“Biafra is not a joke, it should be handled carefully. The people defecting to the APC will be disgraced from there. Some will leave APC and let us pray because not all governors will finish their terms,” the revered Nigerian preacher offered.
Primate Ayodele spoke about his upcoming birthday slated for Tuesday, February 14, explaining that he would be “sending people to Jerusalem, empowering women and give out free foods to as many people as can be at his church’s Isolo headquarters on Tuesday.
“There shall also be empowerment for students, support for police, road traffic management officers and several others.”
In his prophecy at the beginning of the year, the primate stated that Nigeria’s chances of having a smooth ride in 2017 is hinging on the condition that President Buhari adheres strictly to what the spirit of God asked him (the president) to do.

CHIEF JUSTICE OF NIGERIA BERATES BUHARI IN FACE-TO-FACE MEETING AT ASO ROCK
 October 12, 2016
 featured post, News  1,115 Views
Mahmood Mohammed, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, has confronted President Muhammadu Buhari in a face-to-face meeting in the Presidential Villa following the weekend crackdown on federal judges and two Supreme Court justices by the country’s secret police, The Trent can exclusively report.
The meeting, which held in the morning of Monday, October 10, 2016, was at the instance of the Honourable Justice Mohammed, multiple sources reveal.
Present at the meeting were Lawal Daura, the director-general of the Department of State Security Services, DSS, which serves as the country’s secret police and the president of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Babatunde Adejumo.
Our findings are that the meeting was very tense and the chief justice did not mince words when addressing the president on the matter. The visibly infuriated CJN tongue-lashed the president for violating the democratic principles of separation of powers and assuming the unconstitutional status of “supervisor” of the judiciary, an independent arm of government.
Justice Mohammed accused President Buhari of victimizing the judges targeted in the midnight crackdown by the DSS for refusing to be intimidated by the secret police over the matters of the election petitions of Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.
According to one of our top inside sources, the CJN exposed a series of scare and intimidation tactics carried out by the DSS director general, a kinsman to President Buhari, to make the bench bow to its wishes and overturn the judgement against the current governors of two oil-rich states.
Mohammed expressly accused the DSS DG of using the name of President Buhari in carrying out what he called an “unprecedented attempt to influence the bench and pervert justice” in the country. The president was visibly upset by the revelations and repeatedly denied knowledge of such harassment of of judges by the DSS.
Mr. Daura attempted to deny knowledge of such subterranean moves and claimed that the judges that were arrested, in what the secret police wrongly termed as “sting operation”, were corrupt. A claim which saw the CJN shout him down telling him to shut up and sit down.
After lambasting the secret police boss, Justice Mohammed proceeded to unreel instances in which Daura contacted judges handling the election petition cases claiming that ruling in favour of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates was “what President Buhari wanted”. Again, the president denies issuing such instructions.
The CJN also revealed that the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi offered the judges millions of dollars to overturn their ruling on the two election petitions. He said the honourable justices rebuffed Amaechi because they were hellbent on delivering a sound judgment on the cases which had been unduly sensationalised by politicians.
Justice Mohammed revealed that Amaechi also said that he was acting on the orders of the president and that in actual fact, the judges arrested over the weekend were those who refused to be corrupted by the DSS and Amaechi and insisted on preserving the independence and integrity of the bench.
On this revelation, Buhari presented a disturbed contenance, our sources say. The president requested that the CJN puts down his position which we are reliably informed has been done.
Insiders revealed to The Trent that the climate in Aso Rock is unusually tense following the posture and damning revelations by the CJN.
There are whispers in the corridors that based on the gravity of the allegations against the DSS director and Amaechi, Buhari may let go of the duo to “clear his name from the embarrassing episode’, a top security source told our reporter.
President Buhari appointed Lawal Daura, his kinsman from his hometown in Katsina on July 2, as head of the DSS after firing Ita Ekpeyong. Daura was recalled from retirement as he had retired from the service of the DSS when he reached the mandatory age of 60 according to the Civil Service rules of Nigeria. He is also a member of Buhari’s political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and served on the security committee for Buhari’s presidential campaign.
While the election petitions were being heard at the courts, the INEC resident electoral commissioners (RECs) for Akwa Ibom, Austin Okojie, was detained and tortured for 13 days and his Rivers State counterpart, Gesila Khan , was also detained for two weeks by Nigeria’s secret police. The harassment, detention, and torture of electoral officials of the two oil rich states was reportedly connected with the interest of President Buhari in reclaiming electoral victory from main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in those states.
None of the INEC officials detained by the DSS have been charged with any crime and the election petitions were eventually ruled in favour of the PDP by the Supreme Court.

Politics / Cardinal Okogie:can Buhari Ever Read And Understand This? by dachez20(m): 7:35pm On Aug 30, 2016
Last year, when you assumed office, the chant of “Change”, your campaign slogan, ushered you into the Presidential Villa. Today, cries of “hunger” could be heard across the length and breadth of our vast country. Nigerians hunger, not only for food, but also for good leadership, for peace, security and justice. This letter is to appeal to you to do something fast, and, if you are already doing something, to redouble your effort.
May it not be written on the pages of history that Nigerians die of starvation under your watch. As President, you are chief servant of the nation. I therefore urge you to live up to the huge expectation of millions of Nigerians. A stitch in time saves nine.
The way forward
This is the second year of your administration. You and your party promised to lead the masses to the Promised Land. It is not an easy task to lead. But by campaigning for this office, you offered to take the enormous task of leadership upon yourself. Nigerians are waiting for you to fulfill the promises you made during the campaign. They voted you into office because of those promises.
The introduction of town hall meetings is a commendable idea. But in practice, you, not just your ministers, must converse with Nigerians. You are the President. You must be accountable to them. The buck stops on your desk. Even if your administration has no magic wand at least give some words of encouragement. On this same score, please instruct your ministers, and insist that they be sincere and polite at those town meetings. Their sophistry will neither serve you nor Nigerians.
READ Jonathan Treated To Executive Lunch In London (Photos)
Mr. President, if you want to leave a credible legacy come 2019, in all sincerity, please retool your administration. Change is desirable. But it must be a change for the better. Let this change be real. Change is not real when old things that we ought to discard refuse to pass away. You will need to take a critical look at your cabinet, at the policies and programmes of your administration, and at those who help you to formulate and execute them. You will need to take a critical look at the manner of appointments you have been making. It is true that commonsense dictates that you appoint men and women you can trust. But if most of the people you trust are from one section of the country and practice the same religion, then you and all of us are living in insecurity.
The Nigerian economy has never been in a state as terrible as this. You as President are like pilot of an aircraft flying in turbulence. Turbulent times bring the best or the worst out of a pilot. We can no longer blame the turbulence on past administrations. You know quite well that some of the officials of your administration served in previous dispensations. Blame for what we have been experiencing is in fact bipartisan in character. The entire political class needs to come together, irrespective of party differences, to acknowledge its collective guilt and to seek ways of saving the sinking ship that our country has become. This cannot be done if some officials of your administration demonise and alienate members of the opposition. If a large portion of the blame for the present situation is to be laid on the doorsteps of the entire political class, the search for solution must involve everyone. That is why no one should be alienated. All hands must be on deck.

This is the time to revitalise moribund industries, reinvigorate our agriculture, make our country tourist and investor friendly, and enable our young men and women to find fulfillment by contributing to the common good. None of these lofty goals can be achieved without good education. On this particular issue, recent appointments you have made in the education sector raise a question: have you really appointed the best?
Still on education, it is important that our universities be allowed to use their own criteria to admit students. It is a gross violation of the principles of federalism and academic freedom for the federal government to insist that only a federal parastatal can decide on who gains admission into our universities. It is the role of the university senate, not of government bureaucrats, to decide on who gets admitted and who is awarded a certificate.
The war on corruption
Mr. President, your desire to wage a war on corruption is just and noble. But a just war must be waged with just means. Those who have stolen the wealth of this country have broken the laws of our country. They must be treated according to the law and not outside the law, and the outcome of the judicial process must be respected by government. Even accused persons have rights. Where those rights are violated, we risk a descent to anarchy.
It is our candid opinion that corruption is not found in only one party. No political party in Nigeria has a monopoly of looters. That is why we need an EFCC that is thoroughly independent of the presidency, and an Attorney General without party affiliation working in partnership with various independent accounting institutes. This will ensure that we come up with an objective list of those who plundered our treasury.

Mr. President, pardon me if I sound like a gratuitous counselor. I owe you the truth and nothing but the truth. In my life as a public figure and a religious leader, I have offered my counsel, for whatever its worth, to quite a number of Presidents in this country. I do this because I desire that you succeed. For the success of the leader is the success of the citizens. If there is no solution to Nigeria’s problem there may be endless war. You strike one town, you gain it, and you come again to regain it. Remember that you cannot put a crown on your head. It is the people who put it on you. Otherwise one day, you will get tired of it. Please listen to the legitimate cries of your fellow citizens.

You see the Man on the right hand side of this picture... Never pick a fight with him, you will lose If you join him, you will be a winner, if you oppose him, he will destroy you.
Many have tried. Former Governors Peter Odili and Celestine Omehia and the then seemingly powerful PDP faction tried and failed. Former President Goodluck Jonathan tried and failed as well. Honorable Evans Bipi and Honorable Ihunwo as well tried and failed.. CP Mbu of the Nigerian Police force also tried and failed. The One they call Mama Peace also tried and has failed. Akpabio has tried as well in the Senate and has failed.
This Man is unstoppable. The Hand of the God's are strong in his life.

Politics / Pmb:don't Offend Those Kids:dele Momodu by dachez20(m): 5:11pm On Mar 12, 2016
The reason and purpose of my sermon today is predicated on one major controversy, the debate over whether to cancel the concessionary allocation of foreign exchange at official rates to Nigerian students abroad. As a matter of fact the speech and body language of President Muhammadu Buhari has shown unequivocally that he does not consider those schooling outside Nigeria the priority of his government. I beg to disagree Sir. We should stretch the argument and logic by all means. When asked why he sent his own kids abroad, our people’s General retorted that he could afford it. But I wish to say categorically that education should never be the exclusive preserve of those who can afford it. Poor people have sacrificed to send their children to the best schools and being assisted by Government to do so is not a bad idea. Why does this administration not want to be different by demonstrating its vision of transforming Nigeria through quality education? Indeed, the debate negates President Buhari’s much-appreciated and advertised credentials as a friend of the poor.
Education is the ultimate leveller. The best schools in the world are not likely to admit anyone based on your bank statement. The students still have to undergo very intensive and rigorous examination, interview and general screening exercise. I cannot over-emphasise that it is the dream of every reasonable and loving parent to send their children to the best schools all over the world whether they can afford it or not. It ought to be the dream of every responsible government to help its youths attend Ivy League schools and donate them to the academic world. Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Buchi Emecheta, Ben Okri, Chimamanda Adichie and others would probably have remained local champions if their talents had been limited and restricted to Nigeria. I’m not sure they were all born with silver-spoon.
It is wrong to say those who cannot afford school fees should return home. What it means is that the children of the rich and those of privileged government operatives would be the only ones remaining to attend great institutions. No government should encourage such disparity. I quite understand the frustrations of this government and sincerely sympathise with our President but no investment is bigger and better than encouraging our children to rule their world by exposing them to global experience. Those encouraging the President to take anti-people decisions are doing him no good. This government can step on powerful toes but it should not invite the wrath of the younger generation who are not the cause of our backwardness.
Are we saying students who are already in schools all over the world should return home because they campaigned and supported APC in their collective wisdom or stupidity? When some of them went out of their ways to vote for change I’m sure it was not to make their situation worse but they would have expected some marked improvements in their lives. It is not their fault that our economy has taken a cataclysmic fall. We should not punish them for the recklessness and rascality of the elders. No matter how bad the condition of our nation is today, the kids should remain under our firm protection. They should not be made to regret their support for the change movement.
Some may argue that Nigeria cannot afford this and that harsh decisions have to be taken in the face of our really despondent situation. However, education should not be on the blacklist of banned items because brains are not commensurate to goods. Nigeria alone has not been able to provide jobs for our army of unemployed. Most of them are naturally unemployable within and outside for various reasons. Nigerian universities are not highly rated and the certificates are not well regarded. The few jobs available at home are thus reserved for those who have been to good schools while many of those who studied abroad often get employed in a jiffy by blue chip companies. Why do we want to deprive our kids such opportunities when we have nothing good to offer them right away?
Our foreign exchange basket is leaking not because of school fees but largely because of the profligacy of various governments of the past, including the present, and the terrible lack of fiscal discipline. For many decades, a country that is supposed to be secular has spent its resources on sending pilgrims to Mecca and Jerusalem. There is no doubt that religious obligations are important but education cannot be treated less so. Indeed, if there is a choice between government support of religious pilgrimages and education, I am sure even the sensible pilgrims will choose education.
It is important to guide our kids and encourage them to work and study hard if they wish to enjoy government loans, subventions and scholarships. This can be activated simultaneously with the rehabilitation of our campus infrastructure and the reactivation of our school curricula to meet international standards. We cannot cancel something for nothing but should replace nothing with something. That should be our goal. Nigeria desperately needs its best brains to germinate and blossom all over the world. Nothing should be done to discourage and frustrate them. We should make the necessary sacrifices for them and not the other way round. Nigeria would be greater and thankful for it sooner rather than later.
Even when we have something in the form of good educational institutions, we must not be parochial, insular or myopic especially when the world has become a global village. It will take a long time before we can come anywhere near our desired destination of good schools for our children. If we eventually breed a decent crop of teachers, where are the physical and material resources that will complement them and provide sound thorough education the kind of which we received many years ago? In those halcyon times, no Government ever toyed with the idea of effectively outlawing foreign education for the middle and lower class or even the wealthy upper class! Every Nigerian, rich or poor, has a right to education wherever they choose, based on the suffering they are prepared to endure and Government must assist and not scupper this choice.
As if to buttress my views, I met a young Nigerian two days ago who rekindled my hope in the unlimited possibilities available to some of our youths. The story of Ayodele Daniel Dada of the University of Lagos has been a celebrated one in the media both traditional and social. We were requested and challenged by many youths to find and promote the academic exploits of this prodigiously gifted genius who had a 5.0 grade point average in Psychology. The Ovation Media Group took up the challenge and we assigned The Boss newspaper, our online publication, to locate and invite Ayodele over. It was a most difficult task which yielded fruits after a few days of camping around University of Lagos, Akoka.
I was surprised when Ayodele walked into our offices. The first thing that struck us was his mild manner. He was simple, modest and humble. We asked him a couple of questions and he came across as someone who truly knows his onions. We asked about his future plans and he revealed his dream of travelling out to the United States of America to study at Yale and hopefully meet his academic idol, Professor Robert Sternberg. I asked if he has any scholarship yet and he said No.
Life is indeed very strange just as God is very merciful. Ayodele arrived at a time a good friend of ours, who wishes to remain anonymous, was also visiting. Our friend listened to Ayodele’s trajectory with rapt attention and immediately got hooked. The good news is that our wonderful friend has offered to help Ayodele realise his dream of attending Yale. The offer came when I asked how he would feel if the foreign exchange debacle renders his plans useless and he said he would be totally disappointed and heartbroken. I’m sure there are many Ayodeles carrying their dreams around the way Jesus carried His cross in Calvary. No one should be subjected to such pain and anguish at this time and age for God’s sake.
According to a Yoruba adage: “if the Gods cannot make our lives better, then they should please leave us the way they met us.“
True, President Buhari should do nothing to aggravate the agony of his core supporters, the Nigerian youths. They are already suffering enough under the weight of the economic crunch. This is my kobo advice Sir.

Politics / Tompolo: Could This Be Possible Of Gen Buhari by dachez20(m): 12:35pm On Jan 17, 2016
Dear Mr. President.
As a loyal citizen of Nigeria, I wish to send this urgent appeal to your office with regards to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) on-going battle with former Nigeria Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo.
I just want to say that some of the point-proving tactics deployed by your government and your security agencies are not necessary.
When you have a possibly volatile suspect like Tompolo, it would make sense to also review the possible backlash of going all out and creating a stand-off. The government looks bad. EFCC looks bad. Tompolo looks bad, and I don’t think he cares.
The excessive confrontational approach of the EFCC has caused a militant who has been ‘domesticated’ to be forced back into his natural habitat. I am sure that you are aware that some strategic oil pipelines have been blown up by militants in the last two days. Tompolo has disassociated himself from the incidents and condemns the attacks. But, Tompolo is possibly having the time of his life right now, regardless.
Mr. President, there are many ways to cook fish. One-way traffic approach to law enforcement doesn’t always yield positive results.
Sir, you are not the first President of Nigeria. You won’t be the last.
When Tompolo did not have as much resources as he does today, he waged war against Obasanjo’s regime. You would recall, Sir, that Obasanjo’s (1999 – 2003) regime was tyrannical, just as yours. Obasanjo couldn’t finish the battle, he handled it over to his successor late President Musa Yar’Adua who continued the face-off with Tompolo and other militants. At a point, Yar’Adua declared Tompolo as the most wanted man in Nigeria.
The militants waged a campaign against oil production in the Niger Delta region that successfully crippled the nation’s economy from 2005 till 2009. One party had to blink first, and it was Nigeria when the country went broke.
Sir, you are well aware that Yar’Adua sent a presidential jet to fly Tompolo, Ateke Tom, leader of Niger Delta Vigilante, and Ebikabowei Victor Ben, also known as Boyloaf, and others to dine with him in Aso Rock and pleaded with them to lay down their arms so Nigeria could get “money to feed”.
The Niger Delta restiveness only ended when the late President Musa Yar’Adua successfully negotiated a cease-fire and launched the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme.

This is not the North East where an insurgency has been on for more than 7 years and in the midst of it,Nigeria’s economy grew to the biggest in Africa. This is the real ‘bread basket’ of Nigeria we are talking about.
When former President Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat to you at last year’s presidential elections, his people followed his words and his actions and chose peace over conflict.
In the weeks leading up to the presidential elections, this year, Tompolo and other militant group leaders had threatened to make the country ungovernable if Jonathan was rigged out of office. But to our greatest relief, the militants accepted the results of a flawed election, and in a surprise move, Tompolo appealed for calm and everybody moved on. These current confrontations are uncalled for. They serve this country no good.
As a country, we depend on crude oil sales to survive. Prices are at an all-time low. Sales price is $6 below our production price of $31. Experts predict that prices will hover around $5 – $30 for the next six years. On Monday, it appears, sanctions against Iran will be lifted by the US and the U.K. Iran will gladly sell crude oil at $25 a barrel and smile to the bank because the country’s production cost is $12.60. India and China would gladly buy from Iran than Nigeria. Who wouldn’t buy from a closer source and save money?
Contrary to the message that your government is trying hard to push forward, the war against Boko Haram is far from won. Just yesterday, the terrorist group attacked a military base in Yobe. This follows Wednesday’s bombing of an Adamawa community near Sambisa Forest. Sunday, six Nigerians were brutally murdered in the same community by Boko Haram. It is only a matter of time before the terroristsstage a ‘spectacular’ attack just to prove your information minister, Lai Mohammed a liar.
There is a man on Twitter who seems to predict Boko Haram attacks days or weeks before they happen. Why he is walking around freely is something I don’t understand. But, he claims to see Boko Haram wires and says that the group is planning something big to shock Nigerians and the world. According to this person, who describes himself as some kind of security expert, Boko Haram has activated sleeper cells in reaction to your inauguration speech.
Mr. President, you have gone on record several times practically begging Boko Haram to accept an amnesty deal. If you can suspend your strong-arm image for Boko Haram. I wonder why you can’t also suspend this image just to allow things cool down in this Tompolo situation?
As far as your anti-corruption fight is concerned, there are many big fish to fry. There are low hanging fruits like former governors who enjoyed allocations when crude oil was $100 a barrel and did nothing to improve their states. Let us allow this Tompolo situation to simmer down a bit. We can always revisit the matter another day.
No country fights four wars at the same time and makes any progress. Already, Nigeria is home to thedeadliest terrorist group in the world, Boko Haram; the world’s 4th most deadly terrorist group, the Fulani militia also called Fulani herdsmen; then we are fighting a war against corruption. There is no need starting a 4th war in the process of waging the 3rd.
This appeal comes from someone who loves her country deeply and would hate to see Nigeria go up in flames just because of the massive ego of the EFCC. Please, please, please some wise Nigerians need to surround the President and offer alternatives to confrontation.
I also use this medium, being an open letter, to appeal to Nigerians who are close to the President, don’t be like the subjects of the naked king who kept admiring his imaginary coat and even took measurements of the coat just because they didn’t want to tell the emperor the truth – that he was unfit for his position. Leave a legacy of telling truth to power at all times, even when it was the uncomfortable truth.
Let all Nigerians bear it at the back of their minds that circumstances like Tompolo ignoring court summons are a direct offshoot of Buhari getting on national television and telling Nigerians that he obeys court orders only when they are in line with his beliefs. Lawlessness cascades downwards. The example shown by the government has now embolden Mr. Government.
Anarchy looms. May wisdom prevail.
God bless Nigeria.

Politics / Femi-fani Kayode Replies Emir Sanusi On His Article Blasting Yorubas [MUST READ] by dachez20(m): 1:53pm On Dec 13, 2015
n an essay titled Afenifere: A Syllabus Of Errors, which was written in 1998 and published in Gamji.com , Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi wrote the following. ”Anyone who needs a lesson in how not to be a politician, and how never to win power in Nigeria should study Yoruba politicians. Unless the Yoruba masses disown Afenifere, this group of degree-bearing political illiterates will lead Yoruba land down its own version of a syllabus of errors, an island unto themselves, hallucinating in their own idiocy and content to remain marginalised citizens in their own country while blaming the north for their self – inflicted woes. The syllabus of errors remains a black spot on the history of the Catholic Church. Afenifere will be an even blacker spot on the political history of the Yoruba. Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi’s pedigree speaks mountains of what his political stance would be ab initio. He probably believes, like other Fulani politicians, that the problems of this country have a lot to do with the shift in power away from the Fulani to individuals like Babangida and Abacha, products of “ lower cultures”. The Fulani of the North, proud of the history of the Caliphate, remain proud of the roles played by Fulani leaders of the political and military establishment in Nigeria- Ahmadu Bello, Murtala Mohammed, Aminu Kano, Shehu Yar’Adua, Shehu Shagari, Jubril Aminu. They are sad that other Nigerians do not know the difference in ethnic background between say, Murtala Mohammed and Ibrahim Babangida. They do not understand how a man like Abacha, born to a cigarette- seller in Fagge quarters of Kano (and this speaks mountains of him, how he ruled and how he died) can be taken as the quintessential representative of the Caliphate whose head he disgraced and whose culture and values he sought to erode. So Shinkafi probably believes in the need for a power-shift: Back to the Fulani. He may not be alone in this tendency. Politicians like Mahmud Waziri, Bamanga Tukur, Jubril Aminu, even M. D. Yusufu may consciously or unconsciously have similar views. To the Fulani, there is nothing like ceding the presidency or power. If you want it, you work for it…If you lack the stomach to dig in and fight, too bad for you. Southern politicians have always failed to understand the complexity of the North and its politics”. These are interesting words from an interesting Fulani man. The disdain and sheer contempt that Emir Sanusi harbors for non-Fulanis and southerners and for Afenifere and the yoruba people in particular remains intact till today. His assertion that ”southern politicians have always failed to understand the complexity of the north” is false. Despite the fact that we southerners understand the nature of core northern politicians and leaders very well we have always chosen to hold our peace, condone their excesses, carry their baggage and accept their strange ways and complicated peculiarities in the name of national unity. The truth is that it is Emir Sanusi and his Fulani people that have misunderstood southerners all along. We in the south may be accommodating, tolerant and generous people but our kindness and liberal nature must never be mistaken for stupidity or weakness. That is the mistake that people like Sanusi often make with their racist views and condescending words. He forgets that the culture and history of most of the southern empires and kingdoms predates that of the Fulani caliphate by hundreds of years. Seventeen years after Sanusi wrote this piece about southerners I have decided to respond to him by sharing my views about the core north and its Fulani leaders. This is especially so because we have a hardline Fulani conservative at the helm of affairs in our country today. Sanusi wrote his views about the south in 1998 when his fellow northerner was Head of State but I choose to write my views about the north, not when my fellow southerner is in power, but rather when a northerner is President. I have not taken offence at Emir Sanusi’s views about southerners and I sincerely hope that he and his people will not take offence at my views about core northerners. This essay will not only be deemed as being controversial but its contents will also be keenly contested and scrutinized. This is because I am going to express some home truths here which the majority of our people know to be true but few are prepared to voice. I am making this intervention not out of hate but out of love and compassion for those that have lost their lives at the hands of our adversaries over the last 55 years. I am also mindful of the fact that every single person that is a member of the ruling class or that has held a position of leadership in this country between 1960 and today, including yours truly, has to take partial responsibility for the terrible things that our people have experienced over the years, for the criminal negligence that we have all indulged in, for the shameful conspiracy of silence that we appear to relish and for the abysmal and pitiable situation that we have found ourselves in as a people and as a nation. Those of us that are members of the ruling elite are all, in varying degrees, guilty and it is to partly ameliorate that sense of guilt that I feel constrained to speak out and expose the truth. I am not a racist or tribalist. I deplore violence and bloodshed. I have no hate in me for any individual or ethnic group and I am a firm believer in the view that all men are equal before God regardless of the circumstances of their birth, their creed, their tribe, their nationality or the color of their skin. Whilst I hold these truths to be self-evident , I also believe that it is incumbent upon those of us that lay claim to being leaders to always speak the truth about the history and unfolding events in our country no matter how uncomfortable that truth may be. We owe it to ourselves, to posterity and to God to do so. Let it be said many years from now after we are all long departed that within the madness and cacophony of national anguish, servitude and pain and during the course of the brutal and systemic suppression of the freedom and will of a cheated and broken people, there were at least a few voices that were courageous enough to call a spade and spade and to warn about the grave dangers and consequences of ignoring the injustice and wickedness that has thrived in our country from time immemorial and from generation to generation. Despite all the insults, threats, misrepresentation and, oftentimes, slanderous and utterly bizarre allegations that I, my family and my loved ones have been subjected to over the years from ignorant, venal and hate-filled men, I shall be counted among those few voices. If nothing else that is good enough for me and with that alone I would have made a meaningful contribution to my nations history and done my forefathers proud. It is with this in mind that I urge readers to fasten their seat belts and consider the following contribution. When Cain killed his brother Abel the bible tells us that God asked him the following question: he asked “where is thy brother Abel?” Cain responded in a defiant manner by asking God the following question in return: he asked “am I my brothers keeper?” God responded by telling Cain that his brothers blood was crying to Him from the ground for vengeance. From that point Cain was afflicted with a terrible curse which could not be lifted because it came from the Living God. Wherever he went the curse that goes with shedding his brothers innocent blood followed him. This was made worse by the fact that he refused to repent or show any remorse for what he had done. Everything that he did failed and everywhere he went he was despised, rejected, feared, hated and viewed with suspicion by his compatriots, colleagues and fellow men. Tragedy and misfortune stalked him and he ended up being nothing but a vagabond, a marauder, a parasite and a wanderer in foreign lands. He became a byword and a proverb: a herder of goats and cattle who lived and survived by guile, doublespeak, stealing, pillaging and intimidating others. He became the proverbial leech who made a headway in life only by benefiting from the sweat, labor and hard work of his hosts and benefactors, by sponging off whichever community gave him succor and by resorting to violence and bloodshed at the slightest opportunity and at the drop of a hat. He also acquired an obsession with controlling others and an insatiable lust for power and the perpetual domination, suppression and conquest of what he perceived as “lesser tribes and lesser people”. Simply put he was a dangerous predator who sought to milk others dry and conquer by guile and assimilation. There are comparisons to be made with Nigeria here . Sinister forces and dark elements from the deeply conservative core north have killed more Middle Belters and southerners than any other in our country over the last 55 years. Worse still those sinister forces do not just kill but they also establish their own communities in the land and territory of their victims and forcefully occupy it. They have refused to stop doing so and to all intents and purposes they have developed an insatiable blood lust which compels them to shed innocent blood at the slightest whim in order to subjugate others and to remain in power. The south, whom our British colonial masters once referred to as the “rich wife”, has effectively become the Abel of Nigeria whilst the conservative core north, whom they once called the “poor husband”, has now become the Cain. For many years the Lord has been asking the core north what they have done to their southern and Middle Belt brothers and why they keep doing it. For years the conservative core north has responded with defiance and anger and asked God “am I my brother’s keeper?” The result of this open defiance and lack of remorse is simple and clear: it has attracted Gods wrath. Is it any wonder that Boko Haram now ravages the core north? Is it any wonder that every single core northern leader that has ever ruled Nigeria since 1960 has either been killed or died in mysterious circumstances whilst on the throne or was removed in a military coup and then subjected to a number of years in detention? Is it any wonder that the core north is totally dependent on the rest of the country for its sustenance and economic survival? Is it any wonder that a UNICEF report which was released a few years ago stated that if Nigeria were to ever break up that the core north would be the most impoverished, the most backward, the most unsustainable and the most barren area in the whole of the west African sub-region? Is it any wonder that they were viewed with so much suspicion by others that the core northern states were excised from the country by Major Gideon Orkar in his 1991 coup broadcast and asked to re-apply if they wanted to be part of Nigeria again? Is it any wonder that the leading south-western politician within the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) is secretly complaining and quietly lamenting the fact that he was used in the 2015 elections by the core north simply to put one of their own back in power so that their hegemony could be resurrected and their agenda of perpetual and everlasting northern rule could be established forever? Is it any wonder that according to a survey carried out this year by Global Terror Index , which was published in the United Kingdom’s Independent Newspaper , that two of the four most deadly terrorist organisations in the world today are based in core northern Nigeria and are led, funded, peopled and inspired by core northern Nigerians? According to the report Nigeria’s Boko Haram is now officially the world’s most deadly terrorist organisation whilst what they have described as ”the Fulani militants” (aka Nigeria’s Fulani herdsmen) are number four. Is it any wonder that according to the same Global Terror Index report Nigeria is now the “third most terrorised nation in the world” whilst Iraq and Afghanistan remain the first and second and Syria and Pakistan remain the fourth and fifth respectively? Given this is it any wonder that there are loud and increasingly persistent calls for self-determination in southern Nigeria? Is it any wonder that the core north is ravaged by poverty, disease, violence, strife, conflict, stagnation and bareness more than anywhere else in our country? Is it any wonder that according to a 2015 UNICEF report Nigeria has the ”highest number of child brides on the African continent” with no less than 23 million child brides in the north? Is it any wonder that according to the World Health Organisation northern Nigeria has the ”highest number of young girls in the world suffering from vagina vesicovaginal fistula (VVF)”, a disease which comes as a consequence of sexual intercourse with young underage girls. Is it any wonder that the core north is afflicted with a self- serving and calculating ultra-conservative ruling elite who keep their own people in perpetual subjugation, darkness and bondage and who come from a distant foreign land called Fouta Jallon in modern-day Guinea? Is it any wonder that most core northerners name themselves after the towns and villages that they were born and raised in rather than after their families and forefathers? Is it any wonder that we have a nomadic core northern President who finds it difficult to stay at home? Is it any wonder that a colorful personality from one of the core northern states, who later became a respected traditional ruler, was an Islamic fundamentalist in his youth, was incarcerated for two years for being a radical jihadist and was one of those that inspired and orchestrated the murder of Gideon Akaluka for “desecrating the Koran”. Is it any wonder that a core northern Nigerian by the name of Omar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, the notorious ”underwear bomber” who tried to blow up an American airliner that was filled with passengers in Detroit, told the FBI that his ”most trusted mentor” and ”favorite uncle” was a well-known and leading core northern leader? Is it any wonder that Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, one of the most respected northern voices in the country, recently said ”the northern Muslim elite laid the foundation for Boko Haram”?
