10 x 220ah batteries to power 600W load for about 20hours?

Actually that's for 14 hours. Is it too little or too much

Load is over 600watts. How about if I get a 2000watts sachet inverter with the two extra panels? I'm looking at optimizing the output with not much cost..

Well, that might help improve your performance. Your freezer and other appliances should only be used during the day, you will have to reduce your "sun-down" loads to a max of 200w. If you are lucky not to have damaged your batteries your inverter should go off around 1 - 2am.

In order to continuously power the load of over 600watts after sunlight till the next sun light you need a minimum of 10 220ah batteries. If you buy less than that be ready to replace your batteries in about 12 to 18 months.

So my advice, power the heavy loads during the day and manage your load once it's sundown. Your current battery back up can only support a about 100w after sundown till the next sunlight.

Hello house, I have a 5kva/24v felicity inverter, a 60A PowMr solar charge controller, two Vitra 12v220a tubular batteries and four 300W panels. I noticed that using with from around 11am with my freezer, TV and two fans, the system goes off before 9pm even when I put off the freezer before 4pm. I expected to have at least 18hrs with this setup which is less than 3months old, but I'm disappointed with the results. I intend to add two more 300w panels, please would this help increase how much supply time I get from this system? Any advise will be welcomed.

Tell us the power ratings of the gadgets you power. Whosoever advised you to power up a 5kva inverter with two 220ah battery needs flogging.

You can only power about 300watts (total wattage of the appliances) with those batteries as your inverter will use up about 80watts doing nothing.

My advice is you dispose those batteries and buy new ones atleast 4 batteries then double your panels.

Ideally, you don't need more than a 1.7kva inverter. Plus don't you power bulbs, you need to factor in those things. In renewable energy, you energy supply is limited. Even common phone charger draws about 20watts.

Get a proper energy audit done for proper advice. Those appliances you listed up there may consume about 400w in total and it's alot of power to be drawn from 2 tubular batteries. You will have just about 4 to 5 hours back up after sun down

Good morning all and a glorious new year. please i would like to get a solar that can power 15bulbs, 3 standing fans , 1 Led TV, 1 laptop and charge atleast 4phones. i would like to go DIY, can someone please recommend the items, nos and brands to get. and if it is going to be possible on a budget of 300k. thank you

NO matter how power efficient your appliances are, 300k ain't going to cut it.

Let's assume the bulbs are 5 watts each that's 75watts

3 standing fans @ 50watts each is 150watts

Led TV 50watts

Phone chargers @ 15 watts each is 60 watts

Laptop charger 90watts

Total + or - 450watts

Lets assume it will run for 5 hours at night. That's 450 x 5 = 2250 watts

You will need over 800k to achieve this. Anyone telling you otherwise is not being truthful

Take note the calculations up there are just based on assumptions. It mignt be less or more it depends on the real wattage of the appliances

You people keep on thinking we having 247 electricity is some kind of rocket science. See,that was the same thing that was said with telecommunications

"Telephone is not for the poor, yada yada". Today even the poorest of the poorest has a phone with the telecommunications sector declaring mad profits year to year.

You see having 247 electricity should be a basic human right. Power going off or customers installing transformers and power lines is archaic living and should be done away with. It is already basic human right in Europe and America and lots of countries in Africa but that of us you make it seem like it is rocket science and claiming people can't pay for it.

Government still holding on to Generation and transmission and a part of distribution when AMCON took over some distribution companies is bullshit. They should hands off everything and see the growth within a couple of years

We need a total unbundling of that sector. Not this fire brigade approach them dey do.

No matter how much they fix for pricing,it cannot be as much as running 247 Generator in your house.

Genuinely privatize the sector and more people will come in and there will be competition in the power sector like it is in the communication sector.

Not this nonesense they are doing

Government should hands off this and hands of that!! Then what's the business of government?

They have. All of them. Costs of things have gone up.

It is sad, but we are not the masters of our fate here.

I agree there has been significant increase in prices but not enough to trigger 1000% rise in cost of subsidy.

When they are done milking the coffers through this subsidy, they will remove it and introduce paliatives for imaginary people.

Privatisation was not properly done.
The TCN which is a major player is still owned by the government and run inefficiently.
The major problem however, is that the market is not allowed to dictate the prices that electricity is traded at.

Stop preaching demand and supply alone. There are so many factors that determines price.

How has deregulation brought down price of diesel or kerosene. Every serious economies that wishes to grow subsidizes important sectors of their economies.

Subisdy isn't a bad thing. The way they go about it in Nigeria should be questioned. Cost don't just jump by over 1000% in 6 to 9 months.

Basic problem with power supply is simply solved by letting them SET THEIR OWN PRICES.

Like the GSM sector, like the food sector, like the hotel sector...SET THEIR OWN PRICES.

In your mind you think it's there's no price control for TELECOMS

The question you should be asking is how did it jump over 1000% when gas prices did just 200%+

Thanks for your response sir,

The 5units are lithium. They were to go into the same system but one of it had a defect, the cells inside shifted on their mounting and was shorted to the casing of the batteries.(the dealer acknowledged it was a manufacturing defect for this type of their batteries)
The batteries are rated 9.6kwh on the nameplate -the dealer says it is 10kwh- it is mated to a 18kw inverter and 13.2kw of solar with remote monitoring.

The batteries were bought February this year. And we're integrated in installation by July this year.

All other aspects of the system are working pretty good, just the battery.

I might be wrong, but I don't think anything is wrong with your batteries.

Most of these battery packs are over rated capacity wise. Also, your batteries won't discharge 100%, cable loses etc.

Plus your inverter is a large one, its self consumption will be great especially if it's transformer based. Get a meter to measure the total amps drawn from the battery banks to be sure.

Why would you buy a USB 3.0 ? That one is super expensive. USB 2.0 with four hubs is 4k but 3.0 with 4 hubs is 5k and more robust in quality, so I opted for 3.0

A USB hub of 10 ports and above should cost anywhere starting from 5,000 naira depending on your state of residence. I haven't seen that one before, even online on konga/jumia, the ones I've seen have 4-5 USB ports. I stay far from state capital so access to tech market is not readily available. Only two shops have USB hubs in the whole town. angry

how exactly did you end up with a Pure 24-volts inverter, and 1pcs of 12-volts battery ? actually wanted to do a 24v system and tubular due to their advantages. Then subsidy was hurriedly removed & dollar was going up crazily. So I had to think fast with the funds I had on me. So I thought to buy the inverter and a tubular battery and keep first pending when funds come to buy another battery but expected funds didn't come so I was stuck.

I have no regrets on the purchases Sha. The inverter I bought 137k that time now cost 200k. If I had hesitated a while longer, I would not have been able to do anything now cos inflation would have devalued the savings badly.

in your useCase, the inverter's role is to stepDown (reduce) output of the battery. can you imagine? It's annoying suffering in misdt of abundance. The irony and embarrament is much. embarassed

get as many devices with USB ports as possible, or buy USB hubs and if you could get hold of at least 20 USBs wether harvested, or in USB hubs, I would put you through on what to do. You might need an electrician (probably an assistant or one who's less busy enough to consider you) to put them together. It's very simple. not a problem, paddy paddy electricians dey. Kindly permit me to enter your DM.

About selling the 24v inverter, I don't know if I will jam money again. If I do na to just buy two small AGM or GEL batteries dey use am for house. Even if I am able to sell it at reasonable price, wetin person wan use 150-180k do in this Tinubu economy? So I say make I keep am.

Thanks so much for your time and responses. I appreciate you mightily

Since it's for a charging station, you could have simply bought those car chargers and connect them directly to the batteries. I use it at home and trust me they are pretty fast.

You didn't plan well. You don't need the inverter. You could have simply bought more panels.

Well nothing spoil. Carry out your feasibility studies you might need to dispose the inverter to get more panels.

It's grid tied system Sir. The pv is even 435w 2pcs Jinko. I didn't check well when I mentioned 345w

It should work just fine since there's grid supply to supplement it. The issue is whenever there's prolonged power outage it won't run over night. Plus you didn't state how many hours those gadgets would run after dark. You also need to be specific about the number of bulbs.

If you have good installer in Benin, please let me know.
I designed a small 12v 160ah lifepo4 battery with 1.2kva 12v Tbb inverter, 80A Felicity Mppt CC and 2 pcs of 345w Jinko pv to power 120w freezer during the day and 45w LG tv, about 3 ceiling fans of 14w each and few lighting points (energy saving bulbs) at night for my friend.
The guy called two different installers and he was told the system will not power the stated loads.

It will work if grid supply will still be used but won't fly if it's totally off grid.
In order for it to work off grid you need more panels. In real life, those PV won't supply more than 400+ watts on a very bright day.

So that's about 105% of revenue which leaves in a very bad state

My solution

Nigeria has about 42 million houses... Let's say 60% are in urban areas that leaves 25.2 million houses...

Say each house is valued at an average of 20 million

Implementing a 3% housing tax yearly ( federal government keeps 50% state keep 50% )

This would generate 7.56 trillion yearly for the federal government

Now we have 12 million cars in Nigeria already from stats I get

If we introduce 20k to 500k tax on cars, tricycles and bikes . .. We should be looking at a revenue of 3 trillion... States keep 1.5 federal 1.5 trillion yearly

This two simple system Yeileds 9 trillion yearly plus our current 8 trillion yearly... That's about 17 trillion

If we can restructure our debts... We can reduce debt servicing to 4 trillion... Yes
And wage bill can be reduced to 5 trillion... We have 8 trillion left

If 3 trillion goes to infrastructure 2 to health and education

We can have 3 trillion provided to banks at 3% interest to give to businesses in the import substitutes and exportable business as loans at 10% max

The above would create 5 million jobs in 5 years and increase revenue by over 5 trillion yearly

note this solution is not perfect and is a short version of the whole theory

Do you think there's a building I Nigeria that's not being taxed? What's LAND USE CHARGE for?

All vehicles are being taxed through various means.

You also forgot to account for the cost of collection of these taxes which will gulp about 15 to 25 per cent of the tax collected

Taxation is not the problem. Accountability and judicious use of these generated funds is the bane of the societys growth.

Finally, no country can tax itself into prosperity. Issuance of interest free credit plus the right set of monetary and fiscal policies with SECURITY is the only way out of this mess.

Sorry sir. You can have.
They are so many technology behind transformerless designs.
Some employ HF transformer, some don't.

The essence of the HF transformer and accompanying circuitry is to get 340Vdc, the bus voltage and not to invert (DC to AC). The inversion is done from 340dc and does not need transformer.

So many circuits design exist for stepping up to 340Vdc without the need for HF transformer.

Oh OK I agree with you on this.

DC to DC converter then inverting as against inverting and then stepping up the AC.
TransformerLESS inverter uses the former.

The later is now done efficiently using toroidal transformer to step up the resulting AC. People still erroneously refer to this as transformerless because the transformer is different from the usual one they are used to.

I disagree with your submission. Both transformer and transformerless inverters use transformers, just different kinds. The transformer based inverters uses low frequency transformers while the transformerless uses high frequency transformers.

You can't have an inverter without a transformer.
