mvphenryeto5: Why would he replace his battery soon when you don't know his load? You talking about too much charge current, what's the work of the mppt CC Bad advise tho You do think the CC regulates current flow at the initial stage especially when the battery is depleted? Keep on misleading him. Overtime his charging current would exceed the recommended limit. How do you think some of these batteries become swollen? |

mikeayus: Thanks for this input.
Just to put in some more context, I would not be fully utilizing the inverter load capacity as I would be using just 2 ceiling fans, a 30' TV and 2 laptops per time. Also, I believe the MPPT CC LED Charging indicator would always show the voltage on my battery while charging and this can help monitor and avoid over charging. Doubling the Battery bank is a plan in view as well.
Cheerss 2 ceiling fans!! How many watts each? A TV 2laptops simultaneously. Hmm just like I said earlier get ready to replace your battery soon of you power all these appliances after sundown. And you need to add the next battery within the next 3 months or so. As per the charge current, I wasn't referring to over charge but over current and your battery will most likely swell or explode at some point because when there's no load and there's good sunlight, your charger would be sending over 50amps into the battery. Just prepare to replace your battery soon it might not last 6months. Plus the best you will get after sun down is 4hrs power supply if you power on your fans before hitting 50% DOD |

mikeayus: Hello guys,
I am a DIY Solar user to be and I have bought the following Items for my setup.
1) 2 550W Jinko Solar Panels (TechLand Solar) 2) 12v 3000w EASun Inverter From a fellow Nairalander 3) 12v 200A Battery Full River From Idyllic Tech. 4) 120A MPPT Charge Controller From Gennex Technologies
Now, I need advise on every other thing I need to get to have my setup up and running (Cables, Change Over, other accessories etc. ).
I would appreciate every tip and learnings from you all. Thanks Just be ready to replace your battery soon. So many things could easily go wrong. Too much charging current on any day you decide to turn off your inverter, also You would most likely overdraw current at nights given the size of your inverter. My first advice is you double the battery bank. Secondly, a 60amps charger with a 24v system would have been better and probably cost same or just a little more than what you will be spending in total. Like smaller cable Guage, cheaper breaker etc. Just keep in mind that whatsoever you have in mind will be different from what is achievable on renewable energy except you've got deep pockets Plus I would have advised you got a lifepo4 battery, as it tolerates more abuse. Just make sure you turn off the system as soon as your battery voltage gets below 12.0v on small loads. The inverter you got is not optimal for lead acid as it won't cut off until battery voltage drops below 10.5v so you've got to really monitor your system |

Naruto87: The fact is this administration policies are foreign investor friendly and due to the massive devaluation of our currency investment looks attractive. The effects won't be felt until 4th quarter or 1st quarter of 2025. The major issue is that the negative effects on the economy isn't well managed. It would only be favorable to investors when they are able to repatriate their funds profitably at Dollar value. Imagine a foreign investor investing 2million dollars at 450naira to a dollar last year only for his investments to be worth about 500thousand dollars this year. Investors needs clear economic path and adequate security which none is presently feasible in Nigeria. |

Nigeria can never be great, just read comments on the first page. The stipends you are paid to support the government can't cater for this calamity brought upon us. Forget all this news let's enter market and purchase goods at pre APC Era, not hike prices and reduce it a little and claim achievement. That's APCs plan. I told people this party would afflict her citizens for 2 years then relax the afflicition created by them and claim progress yet people would vote for them again. If nigerians were united how would APC still win elections all over the country. |

bassdow: with regards to the Bolded, 9am is too early as the battery bank needs time to replenish what's been taken out of it the day & night before. Rather than 9am, let it be anytime from 12pm or as soon as your battery bank is 100% filled I don't think 9am is too early. Inshort for his PV array of 2.4kw he should be able to power those appliances effortlessly. I suspect the panels are not 300watts or not properly installed or there's a fault in the system. Secondly he needs to get rid of those ceiling fans and get more energy efficient ones. On a final note he needs to reduce his night time loads. Carry out a proper energy audit. Doesn't he use bulbs, charge phones, laptops etc. Please factor in those things too. |

Is the inverter off from 4pm to 10pm? Basically let's assume 4pm is sundown. You need to get a more efficient fan. That fan is guzzling you energy. |

oloyemeji: After 3pm all heavy appliances are switch off, that is how i have been using it, but i am thinking if getting additional two batteries can boost more power, i have other two additional panels to make it 10 panels, but yet to decide if i will need two more batteries. Never mix old and new lead acid batteries. The old ones would wear the new ones out in no time. Also make sure your batteries are fully charged. It's possible the batteries do not float. Can you quickly list the appliances you use after dark and their wattage alongside the time those appliances run |

oloyemeji: The installer did not tell me that the batteries is damaged, could it be that he not been honest? Whosoever paired a 3.5kva inverter to just 2 tubular batteries needs to be flogged except he has given you strict instructions not to power some appliances after dark. Even if you increase your batteries to 4, you shouldn't draw past 80amps in total and that's about 800 to 900 watts anything more than that you are stressing your batteries. Only lifepo4 batteries can handle those abuses. Just get a small lithium pack instead and upgrade gradually. |

oloyemeji: I have the same setup as exactly like this except mine is just two batteries instead of 4 batteries, I install it last year January but recently the battery does not hold more power so by 11pm it will be down, my installer said i need to add more distilled water to the battery, and I am thinking of adding two more panels to make it 10 and also add two more batteries, what do you advice? Just dispose those old batteries, you have damaged them. Buy 4 new batteries and upgrade your solar panels Finally and most importantly, carry out an energy audit and replace all old appliances in your home with more efficient ones. Never draw more than 200watts per tubular battery after sundown. |

Buchika: what of inverter freezer of 120 watts . Does the above statement apply too. Nothing is wrong with running a freezer on a 12v system. Just have sufficient battery bank. People need to stop condemning 12v systems abeg. They are okay for loads up to 2kw, just that I would suggest a 24v system if you would be continuously drawing more than 1kw energy. A 24v system with just two 220ah tubular batteries is no better than a 12v system with same battery bank. For a regular freezer or inverter freezer a 1kw 12v system with surge capacity of 2kw is more than OK. Just turn on the freezer first before other appliances. I just laugh when I see a 3.5kva inverter connected to two 220ah tubular batteries. Your batteries would die in 3 months if you fully utilize the inverter. |

Cmeo: Don't get it wrong, epileptic power supply and corruption has been here not today and those company has been here too not today. It just got worst now that importation is profitable than production that's why they are dumping production for importation which the new import tariff foreign exchange rate is currently discouraging.
Before now, our government has been too lenient with consumers products importation and paying lip service to encourage production. Those leniency should only be given to manufacturers raw materials and not consumers goods as we have it now
An ignorant part of you forget that you are part of the government whether directed or indirectly; deliberate or non-deliberately through your actions or inactions. In your mind now devaluation of the currency is the right way, what happened to banning the importation of those said goods, they did with male wears, frozen foods and rice. Stop defending nonsense |
