Well, here is my opinion. If this is true, then I believe the selected countries deserved it. You cannot keep fighting me by proxy and think you will be at peace in your home land.

It's like you selling bread that you baked at N1000 per loaf at N1200 to make a profit of 200 naira per loaf. Government then comes in and tells you to sell it at N500..and pays you N400 as subsidy. That means that you are effectively losing at least N300 per loaf sold.

That's how we have been treating the power sector for decades, even with band A.

IN May, for example, revenue was 208 billion naira which was somehow expected to pay for power costing N328 billion naira. No subsidy payments, nothing. Also, in addition to power costs, there are other costs that have to be paid as well, hence the need for a cost reflective tarrif.

I strongly disagree with this assumption. Subsidy gap is the difference between cost reflective tariff and allowed tariff. Once again I insist the company does not suffer a loss.

Once again attributing the loss to subsidy is wrong. Inefficiencies on the part of the revenue collectors contributed to their loss not subsidies, other issues like energy theft, poor metering, corruption on the part of their agents, etc not subsidies.

Almost all transformers and electric cables out there were purchased by respective communities. Let them invest, plus for most organizations, have "loss leaders". Let them stabilize their Band A first, let other bands enjoy their subsidies.

Yes, where did I say that the government should not fix a living wage? Saying that the power sector should charge a cost reflective tarrif does not automatically mean that I believe a living wage should not be paid.

Also, a cost reflective tarrif enables the power sector to make enough money to pay living wages for the workers that work for it. It's kind of simple logic. Right now, the lack of a cost reflective tarrif prevents them from making that profit.

Yeah, it still happens, because the majority of consumers are still paying below the cost reflective tarrif needed to make the electricity company/sector profitable enough to provide those things out of its money.

It's simple. If only 20% of your consumers are paying the cost reflective tarrifs, the loss from the 80% of customers not paying at that level is going to overwhelm the profit, and net loss results. That is what is happening. It does not matter how much band A pays, so long as most people are not paying what band A pays, the electricty sector will lose money, and y'all would still have to buy transformers and cables.

India has the same system we have, and has had it for decades. And it is not working, power cuts happen there too. They even want to make everyone pay a cost reflective tarrif as a result in two years time.

Better face reality, man. If you ran a business where most of your customers were underpaying you, you would not make a profit. And you know it.

We have done this price control subsidy thing for decades. Hell, I don't like this government, or any past government, but I know enough to know that any utility that is not run profitably is going to give you bad service. That's the hard cold fact.

How can we be paying international standard price while earning substandard wage. Imagine a whole minimum wage being able to purchase just 300+ kwh of energy. For comparison in the so call part of the world where they pay cost reflective rates, their minimum wage can purchase well above 6000 units, in some states over 9000 kwh.

Most nigerians do not pay an income tax to government, and income tax has not been astronomically increased, also most electricity bills are massively in theory subsidised. 80% of Nigerians pay electricity bills below N100 per kwh, with some doing below N60 per kwh when the market price is N250 per kwh or higher.

As for fuel, you were paying for subsidesed fuel with debt , and it was that debt that forced it off. And tinubu is still a bad leader tho.

Remember, fuel price is not just a function of crude oil prices, there are other factors in it.

You need to share the time you open for the day and close for the day. Your battery might not be sufficient. As your battery back up after sundown is less than 4hrs. Your panels might not be sufficient too.

Battery Procurement Dispute – Request for Fair Resolution

I’m sharing this to seek objective input and a fair resolution regarding a recent solar installation carried out by Trippledots.

From the outset, my clear preference was LVTOPSUN, based on its features, reviews I got here on NL and other platforms, warranty, and support structure. To confirm pricing, I independently contacted Solaris Surge, who quoted ₦1.9m. I communicated this to Tripplredot and stated I was willing to pay ₦2m to cover procurement and logistics.

At no point did I request a locally made battery. The decision to move away from LVTOPSUN was based on Trippledots recommendation, where I was advised that LVTOPSUN would not provide a full 15kWh usable capacity, while a locally made alternative would provide a full 15kWh and comparable overall value. Based on this professional recommendation, I agreed to the change.

Before payment, I had also informed my Quantity Surveyor (QS) that I was proceeding with LVTOPSUN at ₦2m, which he confirmed was fair. The locally made option was not discussed with my QS at that time. It was only after the battery was delivered that I shared the details with my QS, who highlighted material differences in value, pricing, and functionality compared to LVTOPSUN.

Following further independent research, I confirmed that the installed locally made battery (Mr Reed) is commonly sold around ₦1.6m and has more limited functionality compared to higher-tier options. I also found that alternatives such as VALTO, sold around ₦2m, offer better communication features and overall functionality at a similar price point.

After installation, additional differences became apparent, including shorter warranty coverage, lack of a Lagos service centre, and missing communication features, some of which required additional cost and I was charged separately for and are still not functioning at the time of writing.

I attempted to resolve this privately by requesting either a reasonable price adjustment or a return to my original LVTOPSUN preference. After reasonable follow-up, I have not received a response.

I’m open to constructive opinions on what would be considered a fair and professional resolution in this situation, particularly where a client’s original product preference was changed based on professional recommendation without full disclosure of material differences.
