Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with the battery, you need to be sure of the self consumption of the inverter I guess it's almost 50 watts.

Note that Lead Acid batteries are fully charged at 12.6v, the 13.2 is just surface charge that disappears in seconds/minutes once charger is unpluged.

You can try charging with an external charger and charge at 14.5v let's see if there's a change

I have this mopower 1.7kva inverter and a 220ah tubular haustrom battery. After fully charged with either PV or electricity, the battery drops 2 bar out of 5 bar in the charge controller screen that's without load, just inverter. Battery is just 6-7 months old and I've been experiencing it since installation. I want to know if this is normal.
It was charged full last night. The inverter screen indicated it was fully charged. But while nepa took light the bar and voltage dropped.
Can you state the voltages at 5bars and 3 bars respectively.

It's a brand new 240ah xtra power tubular battery
It's your battery or cable. The battery may not be fully charged. Make sure the battery is fully charged then reduce the cable length and increase the cable Guage. I doubt anything is wrong with your inverter.

You'd be surprised it's hitting LVD due to the in ability of your battery to provide the surge needed to start up the compressor. You can solve this problem by adding one more battery to the set up and increasing the cable size.

I won't advice you to power your freezer with just one battery. You'd be exceeding the recommended discharge current since you will be powering other things/appliances too. Your battery would die in less than 2 years.

Forget that 105watts written on that freezer the apperent power is different which increases energy losses so in real life situation your freezer is using up more than that 105watts

Good day boses
I just installed this 12v 2kva Sms sunmate Hybrid inverter. Owner has a cheat freezer of 105w. My concern now is, the inverter couldn't power the freezer even while all other loads are off.
I know freezer has an higher startup current, i just thought the 2kva will be enough to power it.

My question is, what size of inverter will be recomendable for that size of freezer?
Give info abt the battery. I can bet it's hitting LVD, make sure the batteries are fully charged.

I thought LiFe04 are not supposed to be charged at voltages higher than 3.65, at least that is what they wrote on my EVE cells.
Well, the batteries won't really be charged above 3.65, the voltage difference is what helps charge the batteries, the bms often shuts charging when batteries are full. Thats why I said the batteries are considered fully charged at 13.6v

Let our ogas in the house contribute. My knowledge is kinda limited in some areas.

li-ion does not do so good in a 12v configuration, best for 24v and 48v systems, has a greater energy density than lifepo4 albeit with lower cycle life. Also 12.0v is not 20% dod for a 3s battery pack as you have a voltage range of 4.2v to 3.0v if you are discharging to 80%. Lfp is also fully charged at 14.4v while 80% dod is at 12.8v
12.0v is 20% Dod for li-ion 3s configuration. Lfp is fully charge at 13.6v(when the charger is disconnected), 14.4v is the voltage when the battery is still being CHARGED, same thing applies to Lead acid batteries (flooded) charged at 14.2v to 14.6v depending on temperature and while at rest, it's fully charged at 12.7v.
On a final note, depending on your source of information and brand of LFP I'll stick with 12.8v for 80% DOD (to avoid over discharging)

Yes lithium ion do have higher nominal voltage but the voltage sag is more noticeable on lithium ion than lfp.

Do you mean lfp battery is more superior than lithium ion battery in terms of load handling, assuming there are the same capacity?
Lfp could be discharged to 80% dod. Is lithium ion not having the same dod?
Yes, lfp handles load better than lithium ion because lfp has a more stable voltage during its discharge. Lithium ion can also be discharged to 80% but voltage will be much lower and this affects inverters performance.

For comparison, LFP fully charged at13.6v and 12.9v at 80% Dod while lithium ion 12.6v at fully charged and 12.0v at about 20% DOD. Note the voltage difference.

Most times, inverters will hit LVD on some load while using lithium ion despite having a lot of juice but it rarely happens when you make use of LFP (especially when your battery bank is not large).

Though you can correct this by changing the configuration of the lithium ion by changing from 3s to 4s but this usually cause a problem with getting the voltage to work with your inverter especially 12v systems.

We're used to deceitful market strategies in this country.
I just hope and pray it would serve you for at least 4 yrs.
It's obviously not upto 1.4kwh and I'm almost sure it's not lfp. It's most likely made from used lithium ion batteries. For lithium ion Battery, the capacity is about 120amps. Drawing over 40amps from that will make the voltage sag so much that it will trigger LVD.

my 3kva satchet inverter de struggle to start 100 watt fridge o
I doubt the problem is from your inverter. Upgrade the size of the cable connecting the inverter to the batteries. Also shorten the length of the cable connecting the batteries to the inverter. Finally, make sure your batteries can adequately provide the surge current needed to start the fridge without dropping voltage to a very low one.

I have run a chest freezer of 150watts with a 1kw sachet inverter without issues. I have also run a 90watts fridge on a 500watts inverter before.

The only downside to using these sachet inverters is how poorly they handle electrical surge.

My TB inverter has been gathering dust for long. Those things are power guzzlers. Except you have deep pockets stick with sachet inverters.

Most people buy inverters they will never fully utilize.

Load is over 600watts. How about if I get a 2000watts sachet inverter with the two extra panels? I'm looking at optimizing the output with not much cost..
Well, that might help improve your performance. Your freezer and other appliances should only be used during the day, you will have to reduce your "sun-down" loads to a max of 200w. If you are lucky not to have damaged your batteries your inverter should go off around 1 - 2am.

In order to continuously power the load of over 600watts after sunlight till the next sun light you need a minimum of 10 220ah batteries. If you buy less than that be ready to replace your batteries in about 12 to 18 months.

So my advice, power the heavy loads during the day and manage your load once it's sundown. Your current battery back up can only support a about 100w after sundown till the next sunlight.

Hello house, I have a 5kva/24v felicity inverter, a 60A PowMr solar charge controller, two Vitra 12v220a tubular batteries and four 300W panels. I noticed that using with from around 11am with my freezer, TV and two fans, the system goes off before 9pm even when I put off the freezer before 4pm. I expected to have at least 18hrs with this setup which is less than 3months old, but I'm disappointed with the results. I intend to add two more 300w panels, please would this help increase how much supply time I get from this system? Any advise will be welcomed.
Tell us the power ratings of the gadgets you power. Whosoever advised you to power up a 5kva inverter with two 220ah battery needs flogging.

You can only power about 300watts (total wattage of the appliances) with those batteries as your inverter will use up about 80watts doing nothing.

My advice is you dispose those batteries and buy new ones atleast 4 batteries then double your panels.

Ideally, you don't need more than a 1.7kva inverter. Plus don't you power bulbs, you need to factor in those things. In renewable energy, you energy supply is limited. Even common phone charger draws about 20watts.

Get a proper energy audit done for proper advice. Those appliances you listed up there may consume about 400w in total and it's alot of power to be drawn from 2 tubular batteries. You will have just about 4 to 5 hours back up after sun down

Good morning all and a glorious new year. please i would like to get a solar that can power 15bulbs, 3 standing fans , 1 Led TV, 1 laptop and charge atleast 4phones. i would like to go DIY, can someone please recommend the items, nos and brands to get. and if it is going to be possible on a budget of 300k. thank you
NO matter how power efficient your appliances are, 300k ain't going to cut it.

Let's assume the bulbs are 5 watts each that's 75watts

3 standing fans @ 50watts each is 150watts

Led TV 50watts

Phone chargers @ 15 watts each is 60 watts

Laptop charger 90watts

Total + or - 450watts

Lets assume it will run for 5 hours at night. That's 450 x 5 = 2250 watts

You will need over 800k to achieve this. Anyone telling you otherwise is not being truthful

Take note the calculations up there are just based on assumptions. It mignt be less or more it depends on the real wattage of the appliances

"Telephone is not for the poor, yada yada". Today even the poorest of the poorest has a phone with the telecommunications sector declaring mad profits year to year.

You see having 247 electricity should be a basic human right. Power going off or customers installing transformers and power lines is archaic living and should be done away with. It is already basic human right in Europe and America and lots of countries in Africa but that of us you make it seem like it is rocket science and claiming people can't pay for it.

Government still holding on to Generation and transmission and a part of distribution when AMCON took over some distribution companies is bullshit. They should hands off everything and see the growth within a couple of years

We need a total unbundling of that sector. Not this fire brigade approach them dey do.

Genuinely privatize the sector and more people will come in and there will be competition in the power sector like it is in the communication sector.

Not this nonesense they are doing
Government should hands off this and hands of that!! Then what's the business of government?

Privatisation was not properly done.
The TCN which is a major player is still owned by the government and run inefficiently.
The major problem however, is that the market is not allowed to dictate the prices that electricity is traded at.
Stop preaching demand and supply alone. There are so many factors that determines price.

How has deregulation brought down price of diesel or kerosene. Every serious economies that wishes to grow subsidizes important sectors of their economies.

Subisdy isn't a bad thing. The way they go about it in Nigeria should be questioned. Cost don't just jump by over 1000% in 6 to 9 months.

Thanks for your response sir,

The 5units are lithium. They were to go into the same system but one of it had a defect, the cells inside shifted on their mounting and was shorted to the casing of the batteries.(the dealer acknowledged it was a manufacturing defect for this type of their batteries)
The batteries are rated 9.6kwh on the nameplate -the dealer says it is 10kwh- it is mated to a 18kw inverter and 13.2kw of solar with remote monitoring.

The batteries were bought February this year. And we're integrated in installation by July this year.

All other aspects of the system are working pretty good, just the battery.
I might be wrong, but I don't think anything is wrong with your batteries.

Most of these battery packs are over rated capacity wise. Also, your batteries won't discharge 100%, cable loses etc.

Plus your inverter is a large one, its self consumption will be great especially if it's transformer based. Get a meter to measure the total amps drawn from the battery banks to be sure.
