CrimeWorker Kills Chinese Boss Over Alleged Harassment by dadaojames(op): 10:15am On Jun 19, 2017
The ambience of Tayo Laose Close , Akinola Cole Estate , Adeniyi Jones , Ikeja , Lagos State , has been fraught with distress since a worker at Green World, a drug producing firm on the estate, allegedly killed his Chinese boss , Alice Xu.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened around 8 pm on Friday at the firm , which the 26 - year - old Chinese woman also used as a residence .
It was said that the suspect , 28 - year -old Okechukwu Amos , a casual worker , sneaked into Xu ’s apartment while she was asleep and covered her nose with a cloth until she suffocated .
Our correspondent gathered that the suspect had complained that the boss usually harassed him , and decided to “deal with her ” that day .
Not done , Amos reportedly ransacked the apartment and allegedly stole about N 800, 000 and $ 2 ,000, which belonged to the deceased .
To evade arrest at the estate gate , which is manned by private guards and two policemen , our correspondent gathered that Amos disguised as a mentally - derailed person.
Luck, however , ran out on him .
A security guard, who spoke to
PUNCH Metro on condition of anonymity, said the suspect almost escaped from the gate , but he unearthed his identity and alerted one of the policemen .
He said , “ I was at the security post around 9 pm that day when I saw a man half - naked . He walked towards the gate bare- footed . He was holding a pair of slippers and carrying a load wrapped with a shirt on his head .
“I initially took the man for a mad person, but after a closer look , I discovered that he is Ikechukwu (Amos ). I asked him what was wrong and why he was dressed like that . He said he was angry and that he was quitting his job at the the company . I asked if the person that brought him to the company was aware, he said no.
“I volunteered to call the person, but he refused . I requested to know the content of the bag with him , he was reluctant .
“That was when I became suspicious and called a policeman, who was at the gate with me . He interrogated him and forced him to open the bag. The bag contained a lot of cash . He led the policeman to the company , where we found the woman dead. ”
The guard said Amos was handed over to the police at the MAN Centre division .
When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident around 1 pm on Sunday, the firm was under lock and key .
A worker at a nearby a neighbouring company , who gave his name simply as Abubakar, said the premises had been shut since Friday .
“It was when I came to work on Saturday that I learnt about the incident . I was shocked . The woman was young and usually jogged around the estate. I think it was greed that made Amos to kill the woman , ” he added .
A police source said the suspect in his statement stated that he had endured frequent harassment by the woman and decided to punish her .
The source said , “ He was employed recently by the woman through somebody and he worked at the supply department . He alleged that the woman had been very insulting and disrespecting to him over a period of time .
“He gained access into her apartment when she had slept and tied her up. He covered her mouth and nose and the woman died because she could not breathe properly. He said he only wanted to punish her and didn ’ t mean to kill her. Sums of N 800, 000 and $ 2 , 000 belonging to the woman were recovered from him .”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous- Cole , confirmed the incident , adding that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department , Yaba .
He said , “ We have the suspect in our custody and he has made confessional statement . He has been transferred to the SCIID for further investigation .

PoliticsZenith Bank Compensates Slain Cops’ Families by dadaojames(op): 7:31am On Jun 14, 2017
The Imo State Police Command on Tuesday promised prompt payment of the entitlements of the two policemen who lost their lives during the robbery attack on a Zenith Bank branch on Wetheral Road, Owerri , Imo State .
The state Commissioner of Police , Chris Ezike , while commending The PUNCH Newspapers for doing a “thorough job ” , said the police would not abandon the victims’ families.
This is just as Zenith Bank said it would foot the bills for the treatment of Sergeant Otu Attang , who lost one of his eyes during the attack .
The company said it would also sponsor the education of the children of the late two cops , Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko and Sergeant Sunday Agbo .
PUNCH Metro had reported that a gang of four attacked the Zenith Bank branch on February 22 , 2017 , carting away some undisclosed amount of money from a customer whom they trailed to the premises.
However , the incident gained public attention early June when footage of the bank’ s Closed Circuit Television Camera, which captured the moments of the robbery , was released to the public.
The 2 .58 minutes video , which immediately went viral , showed a courageous Chuwkwudi engaging the robbers in a gun duel from a security post at the bank’s entrance .
One of the robbers , later identified as Ikechukwu Opara, was shot dead while sneaking to the security post.
Soon after , Chukwudi could be seen running out of the security post as one of the robbers shot continuously in his direction .
He was said to have died the following day , following gunshot injuries he sustained during the attack .
Another policeman with him on the premises, Agbo , was also said to have died shortly afterwards , while the third policeman, Attang , lost one of his eyes.
In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH Newspapers , Chukwudi ’ s widow, Rose , lamented that one of their eight children , Chukwuebuka , died from shock during the burial of the father .
The PUNCH Newspapers and some social activists , led by Kayode Ogundamisi , in response to the call of readers and Nigerians from different parts of the world , inaugurated a
GofundMe account to raise $ 15 , 000 for the family, a feat that was achieved within 24 hours.
However , the Imo State CP , Ezike , during a press briefing at the command ’s headquaters in Owerri , described the slain cops as heroes who would never be forgotten .
He recalled that shortly after the robbery , the command got a marching order to arrest the robbers that killed the cops who were from the 18 Police Mobile Force Squadron , Owerri .
Ezike said investigations led to the arrest of the robbery suspects, which included 36- year - old Justice Ogbonna , aka JJ; Abiye Charles ; and Okechukwu Nwanegbo , aka Modestus.
The commissioner said the police recovered two AK - 47 rifles and one AK- 49 rifle with 175 rounds of ammunition from the suspects .
Also recovered were four cars – one Toyota Avalon , two Toyota Camry, and one Toyota Corrolla .
“Let me state for the avoidance of doubt that the trio of Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko , Sergeant Sunday Agbo and Sergeant Otu Attang , remain our heroes . They were gallant , professional, and courageous ; they displayed encouraging passion in defence of lives and property . The Nigeria Police Force, under the able leadership of the Inspector - General of Police , Ibrahim Idris , has not, did not and will not abandon them and / or their families.
“As you are well aware , the Nigeria Police Force is a Federal Government agency governed by laws , rules and regulations in all matters , including financial matters . Be rest assured , therefore, that the financial rights, entitlements , benefits and even privileges of these our own shall be fully paid , and on time too.
“The two deceased officers were recommended for posthumous promotion , while the injured officer was also recommended for a special promotion to his next rank. I am very confident that very soon, the Inspector - General of Police will graciously announce the promotions. Similarly, the command is in constant touch with the families of the deceased officers . We have made and will continue to make financial assistance to cushion the effect of the loss of their loved breadwinners. ”
He said the management of the bank gave financial assistance for the burial expenses of the victims and released start - up business funds for the deceased families.
Ezike noted that the bank also agreed to be giving monthly allowances to the families, including a promise of scholarship to any level of education for the children of the deceased officers .
He thanked Nigerians for their support since the security video went viral , saying the job of protecting lives and property could be hazardous.
The police boss said the state Governor , Rochas Okorocha , had promised to meet the families of the policemen .
PUNCH Metro learnt that one Mr . John Ekweanuo of Sparvi Charity Foundation Worldwide presented the sum of N 500,000 to Chukwudi ’ s family at the briefing .
A blogger , IfeanyiCy Njoku , who made the presentation , said the foundation was touched by the bravery of the policeman.
“The money was presented to the widow in the presence of heads of police formations in Imo State and the state Commissioner of Police ,” he added .

Menh! This thread is not funny again ooo. I am always (abi I should say was) proud of this thread, but what has been happening of late... I don't know what to say about this thread again. Twood always has valid points and his comments are usually filled with helpful information. He can however be more diplomatic in his presentation. The idea is not to condemn but to inform people. There are ways you present issue that those who have contrary opinion will align with you at the end without anyone throwing bomb. At the same time we should all endeavour to accept the truth and use it to work out how to achieve the aim of schooling abroad.

Please let brotherly love continue and let stop attacking one another.

Nice write-up.
Kudos!

djmakson:
Having had your major in mind, you'll search for schools, preferably state/public universities around the southern part of the US (living expenses are cheaper down south than north IMO). 2 to 3 school will be fine just to spread you risk of being admitted. Also let the prospect of getting funded by the school (Graduate Assistantship) be one of the factors to be considered in determining your school. Check out their app requirements in their website. Google is a great resource all through the process. Just a click and you get what you want. Turn in all the required documents. You may be asked to write the GRE and TOEFL to be considered for GA and that's a requirement. Getting GA is competitive so one has to get high scores in it. Some schools may ask for an evaluated transcript, that is changing it from Nigerian standard to US standard. World Education Service (WES) does that. Once all documents are turned in weather by email or courier or regular mail, the school makes their decision to admit or not. You are contacted after few weeks. Once admitted, most schools ask that you send a financial statement of your sponsor covering an equivalent amount specified for you. You can scan it to them or send it by courier. Once they receive it, they'll issue you your I-20 document and send it to your address. Once you get your I-20, you go ahead and pay SEVIS fee of $200, usually paid abroad, can't be paid from Nigeria. Then you are set for the embassy. Pay the visa fee, fill your DS-160 form online for a student visa (F1), book an appointment and date, get all supporting documents ready, prepare by reading people's transcript on here, pray, and go get your visa. Don't be scared with all the processes lined up here, it's a step at a time thing. Once you are determined, it'll be easy. People are doing this every day. Cheers.

You are right. I had to read from 18th Dec. 2016 to date which consist of many pages.

femi321:
Lool..You people always make me laugh. How hard is it to just read few pages backwards? This can not be over emphasized, some of us here today read this thread like an addict. Without reading this thread a day, our day is not complete. Nobody can give you a better coincised summary of this thread than what you will read yourself. Anywaz just because i am less busy, find the links below. I know someone will still come again to ask for gre and toefl materials some weeks from now.If you cant do small research now then how do you intend to do research when you get here? Here, you will be in front of computer for like 6hrs finding some paper or something..at the end of the 6hrs you will make little or no progress..

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t9ot6d07hp1lkm7/AADL_dTihjEvNBRCBsmAcoXja?dl=0 GRE

In the link above, you will find more than enough materials there but it will be waste of time if you use all, head to this gre thread and read the thread to now how best to use the materials. If you cant read that thread, then i am sorry..you need to re-evaluate your decision for graduates study.

For TOEFL, all you need are the speaking noteful videos, the ets toefl guide is enough to ace the exam for other sections. Just download the Toefl ETS Guide from there website and the simulation test.

I will be very stupid and selfish of me not to share my transcript here. Thank God for Great things he has done. I got approved today, thanks Jesus, the mighty man in battle. Straight to transcript.
Got to embassy at Abuja, then went inside for 9 am, after which we were lined up.
Conversation between me and the VO.
Me:Good morning.
VO:morning, pass your i-20 and passport.
Me: here,
Looked at it for some seconds, then asked why concordia college.
Meh I chose concordia college because of its specialty, it has a student to faculty ratio of 11:1 percent. And it also has a record of its students graduating between four years of starting college or less.
Vo:why economics.
Me: I chose economics because I want to be an entrepreneur and I I have this curiosity of wanting to know why people do what they do, the unlimited wants and needs and I believe that economics will prepare me for a future of been an entrepreneur.
VO: ok, name economists you know.
Meh Lionel robbinson, okonjo iweala, idika kalu idika, ...
VO:okay.
Then begins typing for some times, and I was just praying inside of me that this man should abeg give me the white paper.
The VO turns and said: okay, ur visa has been approved, picks the white paper and gave me with a slip. Wish you well on your studies. I immediately turns to Diego Costa outside the interview hall. I began making the sign of the cross and muller's(my best striker) hand raising celebration, and ran out of the consulate.
Help me thank God ooo.
