Trump messed up during the pandemic. Everyone knew that. The ventilators weren't the problem. His incompetence was.
There is nothing wrong when you go to a country's supermarket and everything is from China. If there's a pragmatic reason for it, then it is okay. The why is what counts in economics. China was once a low cost producer due to its huge population, and it started from a low base after the end of Communisk as it was desperately poor. It also build excellent infrastructure which made it a manufacturers paradise.
The cheap cost advantage is no longer strong. Wages are quite high now. Many manufacturers are moving to other countries like Vietnam and Indonasia where wages are much lower.
In addition, the Chinese economy isn't doing that well again. Economic growth is barely 0.5%. Exports are no longer powering the economy like before. Its investment boom has long blown out. Their ecoinomy is in serious trouble.
So, all this sleepness nights about China has achieved nothing.
The myth that the US isn't a manufacturing juggernaut is laughable. It has the second largest manufacturing capacity based on value.
It can't be the joint venture capital in the world without a manufacturing base.

Companies generally likes to go to countries where the cost of production is low. The cost of production is very high in the US. Coupled with the fact that the US has trade regulations, and trade unionism that generally tend to make operating businesses in the US difficult, unlike China. China has a huge market, cheap labour, less trade unionism than in the US and less restrictions on companies about green house effect. For example, it costs apple $30 to make one iphone in China and $300 to make the same iPhone in the US. So why wouldn't apple set up a factory in China to produce phones and sell to the huge Chinese market of over 1 billion people and also export to the US? It's common business sense. Even Elon Musk has a huge factory in China for producing Teslas. Why did he set up a factory in China since he loves the US very much? You think business decisions are based on emotions?
Even with these Trump tarrifics, let's see how many companies will return their production back to the US. The CEO of some companies are already saying it will still be cheaper to pay those tarrifics than return production to the US. (After all, it is still American citizens that will pay these tarrifics in terms of higher costs of goods).
