Van Gaal targeting United stay and Premier League title

Under-fire Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal shrugged off boos from his own fans to state he expects to be in charge next season.
Louis van Gaal bullishly predicted he will manage Manchester United next season after the Old Trafford faithful showed their displeasure with him in the aftermath of Tuesday's 3-1 win over AFC Bournemouth.
Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford and substitute Ashley Young were all on target as Van Gaal's men coasted to victory in the re-arranged fixture – Sunday's game having been abandoned when a suspicious device was found at the stadium.
But, with Saturday's FA Cup final against Crystal Palace on the horizon, United were playing merely for pride after Manchester City's 1-1 draw at Swansea City on the scheduled final day ended their hopes of a top-four finish and Champions League football.
After the match, Van Gaal was greeted on to the pitch for his post-season address by a hail of boos, although sections of his speech praising the supporters and urging a cup-final victory did draw applause.
Another round of speculation linking Jose Mourinho with the United post preceded the Bournemouth match but Van Gaal remains confident he will see out the remaining year of his contract.
"Yes [I will be here next season], because I have signed a three-year contract," he said at a post-match news conference.
[Van Gaal told Sky Sports after the game that fans' expectations were too high at Old Trafford but appeared to contradict himself in the media briefing when he said United could win the league next season.
"That is always possible because Leicester City was more or less a relegation team. We were fourth and fifth, so normally we are closer," he said.

"But in sport nothing is normal. You have to show it, you have to fight for it."
First on the agenda are Palace at Wembley, where United will attempt to win a 12th FA Cup and first since 2004.
"We have to play the cup final and that is a very important game, very important for the club also," Van Gaal added.
"It is a very long time ago that they won this cup so it is important for the fans, for the club, for my staff and also for myself.
"I came here to win a title and the FA Cup is a big title in England."

Mourinho: No Manchester United deal in place

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho dismissed suggestion he has reached an agreement with Manchester United to take charge at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho's future remains shrouded in mystery after he again denied there was a deal in place with Manchester United.
The Portuguese has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea last December following a poor defence to the Premier League title, but he has suggested more than once that a return to management is on the cards for next season.
Mourinho has been heavily linked with Old Trafford hotseat with Louis van Gaal's future at United still unclear, while more recent speculation has suggested the former Real Madrid coach will take over at Paris Saint-Germain.
But Mourinho is adamant he does not have an agreement with any club as of yet.
"With nobody," Mourinho told Sky Sports when asked whether a deal is in place with Manchester United.
"I go to Montreal for the Grand Prix and carry on enjoying my life."
Mourinho remains the favourite to replace Van Gaal at United ahead of next season, with the Dutchman failing to guide his club to a top-four finish.
The Red Devils meet AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday in their last Premier League game of the season, before taking on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on Saturday as Van Gaal chases his first piece of silverware with United.

olabode89:
Lol.... na the matter full this thread nau.... airmark's position that Javi Martinez will not be used as a centre back when other natural/primary centre backs are available is correct because Martinez's ability as a DM supersedes his ability as a CB, but that does not make him a makeshift CB which is what A40 is pointing out.
And if it means he would be deployed as a midfielder (his natural position) instead, how is he not a Makeshift CB??

olabode89:
LMAO... i think say na only me notice am.... Too much bad blood
Javi Martinez is primarily a defensive midfielder that can also play as a centre back.
definition of makeshift - serving as a temporary substitute; sufficient for the time being.
Synonyms of makeshift - temporary, provisional, interim, stopgap, make-do, standby

It is clear to the blind and audible to the deaf that Javi Martinez is not a makeshift centre back although we can argue that it is not his primary position.

A footballer cannot be a makeshift in a position with over 20 appearance in that position, at a point he becomes competent in playing that position
His supposed "competency" is irrelevant here...

If Javi Martinez has been synonymous with words like "Temporary", "Provisional" and similar terms you stated previously (as regards his role as a CB), he is a Makeshift player in that position.

olabode89:
The crux taking away the makeshift tag.
An example of a makeshift centre back will be Carrick for United when the team had an injury crisis.
Lemme refer to this post of yours...

olabode89:
Javi Martinez will not be used as a centre back when other natural/primary centre backs are available.
If Javi Martinez would only be considered for a CB role when other primary CBs are unavailable (and would be made to battle for a place in midfield instead) then it's fair to assume that Javi only made those appearances when the team had injury crises and suspension issues, making him a Makeshift CB in the process.

olabode89:
Mascherano falls under the same category as Javi Martinez, a defensive midfielder that can play as a centre back.
Mascherano no longer belongs to this category at Barcelona - he Is now a 1st choice CB there.

As we speak, it wouldnt be outta place tag Mascherano as a Makeshift Defensive Midfielder for Barcelona sef. cheesy

Real Madrid have offered Manchester United
the chance to sign James Rodriguez for £60
million, according to the Daily Star.

The report claims that United have been
approached by the Colombia international’s
agent Jorge Mendes and the Premier League
club are now giving it consideration.
The deal would be a new British record,
beating the £59.7m United paid Madrid for
Angel Di Maria in August 2014.

Rodriguez has struggled to secure a regular
role under Zinedine Zidane this season and
has started in only two of Madrid’s last six
games.
Why should we pay £60m for a player who has failed to justify that same amount Madrid paid for him in the 1st place? undecided

Ibime see the kind of damage you are causing here. This is an example of one of the tools who thinks the date is a small thing wrong with it?

What else matters if its not the date? So I can bring a ranking dated May 2004 to prove FC Porto is currently the best team in Europe?

You think they put the date there for decoration? You see a picture of Obasanjo as President of Nigeria dated 2006, you now bring it forward that you know the current president of Nigeria. Dates are not there for fun, Its for added information which flew over the head of doofuses like you
