It's hindsight analysis because you want us to believe that we wouldn't have lost with Rafael and Valencia in CMF

and as per the penetration it is not about individual moments but the general flow of play. with rooney in attack there would have been more chances for other players to get chances in the box. our attack in the opponents box would be more dynamic and variable.

And how would it have been more dynamic with the likes of Rafael and Valencia in CMF, coupled with a Juan mata who was always gonna be anonymous in "powerful" games like this?? ( like we saw today )

i wouldn't. i knew it will amount to nothing in terms of chances created. he did well no doubt, but to get the required win, more was needed. herrera's absence on the right channel limited the penetration there, the reshuffling did more harm than good although we ahd no much options.

i hope those calling for the inclusion of Blackett now know better, his introduction KILLED any hope of a late rally!

Despite the fact that falcao was piss-poor today, can you really blame falcao for our lack of penetration??

From a creative point of view, wasn't Rooney was even better than the largely anonymous mata ( who was supposed to be a focal point in our attacking buildups)?

I reiterate - with the injuries we had, I cannot fault LVG's starting line-up.

Keeping falCOW on the pitch for 90mins, coupled with some other decisions ( like the removal of shaw, and playing fellaini at the left edge of Chelsea's box) should be our main concerns..

We did not need to boss the game to that extent. Jose came to park the us, we would have bossed the game enough. what we needed was penetration from midfield instead of sideways passing. what will 71% possession benefit you if your 1st shot on target is in the 2nd half?

If Rooney had played as a centre foward, how would he have given us that "penetration"? Wasn't it the same Rooney who missed a glorious chance in the early minutes and also shot tamely like a fat bítch in the 2nd half from a good position??

As a CM (and aside the misses), Rooney was actually one of our best players today. It's just unfortunate that falCOW seems to be getting worse by the minute!

Like I said, the issue should be centered more on the reasons behind LVG's decision to keep him on the pitch for 90mins..

The useless sub is when he put Blackett for Shaw. Di maria played virtually as a LB since Blackett can't support him in attack.

Rooney's starting role Is the issue here.

For this match Rooney was our best best in midfield and also our best bet in attack.

However the gap in quality between Rooney and the other midfielders at this moment is not up to the gap between Rooney and Falcao.
Whatever advantage Rooney gave us in midfield we lost it TENFOLD by playing Falcao in attack.
We should have gotten a decent alternative to Rooney (like those guys i mentioned) in midfield and played him in attack instead of playing him in midfield and playing an otu oshi like Falcao in attack.
Obviously RVP is not yet fit to start, LVG alluded to this yesterday in his conference, Shaw was ahead of him in fitness and training.

There was no way we coulda bossed the game the way we did assuming we had the likes of Rafael and co in midfield.

I'd rather concern myself with why LVG decided to keep falcao on the pitch for 90 mins despite the shitstorm he was serving us.

1)Valencia could have gone there and Rafael at RB

2) Rafael could have played there with Valencia at RB

3) Young could have played there

4) Even Fellaini could have played there with Di Maria at LCM

5) If push came to shove McNair could have played DM, Blackett at LCB and Herera at RCM(where rooney played).

You can't just have the player with the poorest form in the team being the lone striker. Falcao's form is probably the poorest in the team NO REASON TO THINK HE WOULD JUST CLICK AGAINST A SEASONED DEFENSE WHEN MOI MOI DEFENSES SHUT HIM DOWN.

Rooney was always gonna be our best bet in midfield - the fact that he did pretty well there is a testament to that effect.

The only issue was falcao starting... Maybe LVG should have risked RVP just like he did with shaw ( shaw played well).

LVG had the option to bring RVP in but we all saw how moronic his decisions were.

we had alternatives to rooney in midfield but no alternative to him in attack. RVP is obviously not fit to start a match and Falcao is just not fit to do anything.

Left to me, Rooney should sit with hererra in central midfield jare...with fellaini and falcao upfront - hopefully one or both of them go score from ashley young's in-swingers.

its not bad. Mata can as well maintain his place while di Maria starts @ RMF. I believe this won't drop the quality. Herrera is good enough, his football brain can carry him fairly in the position.

the way I see it tho, Rafael will get the start @ RB while Valencia plays RMF & I think its balanced enough.

What happens to young?

Defensively, Valencia might not be the be the best RB in the world but I'd rather play him against hazard than gamble with a match-rusty Rafael who would cop a yellow card in the 3rd minute ( by dragging hazard's shirt in Chelsea's 18yard box ).....after which nervousness go set in.

If Rooney has to play in midfield because of this, too bad. We can only be hopeful our attackers do well upfront!
