Voting has ended in the ongoing Ekiti State Governorship Election, with foreign observer group, Nouvelle Perspective, expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise across the state.

The observer group, which deployed ad-hoc staff to all the 16 local government areas of the state, described the process as peaceful and orderly, noting that a high turnout of voters was recorded in many polling units monitored by its team.

Nouvelle Perspective attributed the impressive turnout to the appreciable presence of security personnel across the state, saying their deployment provided the electorate with the confidence needed to come out in large numbers and exercise their franchise without fear.

Speaking on the exercise, the National Coordinator of Nouvelle Perspective, Hon. Jim Okolo, commended voters, security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring a smooth voting process.

According to him, "From our observations across the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State, there was a remarkable turnout of voters and a commendable level of orderliness. The visible presence of security personnel gave confidence to citizens to come out and participate in the democratic process."

Hon. Okolo further stated that the Ekiti Governorship Election would serve as a litmus test for the general elections scheduled for early next year.

"The Ekiti Governorship Election is a litmus test for the general elections coming up early next year. The lessons learnt here and the level of preparedness demonstrated by stakeholders will be crucial in shaping expectations for the nationwide exercise," he said.

He added that the group would continue to monitor the collation process and would issue a comprehensive report on its findings at the conclusion of the election.

Results collation is expected to start soon at the collation centre at Ekiti INEC headquarters. The presidimg officers of the polling units already sending in result amidst tight securities.

BusinessTop 5 Alternatives To Facebook And Instagram For Businesses In Nigeria by dailybuzzng(op): 4:37pm On Jun 07
For many Nigerian business owners, Facebook and Instagram have become the default platforms for marketing products and services. Whether you’re a fashion designer, barber, makeup artist, plumber, real estate agent, restaurant owner, or entrepreneur, chances are you’ve tried promoting your business on one or both platforms.

However, things are changing.

Organic reach on Facebook and Instagram has dropped significantly over the years. Many business owners now struggle to get their posts seen unless they spend money on advertisements. While paid ads can be effective, not every small business has the budget to run campaigns regularly.

The good news is that Facebook and Instagram are no longer the only options available. Several platforms now help businesses improve their online visibility, attract customers, and generate leads without relying entirely on social media algorithms.

Here are five alternatives Nigerian businesses should consider.

1. Google Business Profile
Google Business Profile remains one of the most powerful free tools available to business owners.

When people search for services such as “barber near me”, “restaurant in Lagos”, “tailor in Abuja”, or “real estate agent in Port Harcourt”, Google often displays business profiles directly in search results and Google Maps.

A complete Google Business Profile allows customers to:

- Find your phone number
- View your address
- Read customer reviews
- See business photos
- Get directions to your location
- Visit your website

The biggest advantage is that customers searching on Google usually have a strong intent to buy or make inquiries. Unlike social media users who are mostly scrolling for entertainment, Google users are actively looking for solutions.

For local businesses, this platform should be one of the first places to establish an online presence.

Get started: https://business.google.com

2. LinkedIn
Many Nigerians see LinkedIn as a platform only for job seekers, but it has evolved into a powerful business networking platform.

LinkedIn works particularly well for:

- Consultants
- Agencies
- Real estate professionals
- Coaches
- Business service providers
- Technology companies
- Corporate vendors

If your customers are companies rather than individual consumers, LinkedIn can be more valuable than Facebook and Instagram.

The platform allows business owners to showcase expertise through articles, posts, videos, and professional networking. Many businesses generate partnerships, contracts, and high-value clients through LinkedIn connections.

Although LinkedIn may not be ideal for every type of business, it remains one of the best platforms for B2B marketing in Nigeria.

3. Bizzi
Unlike traditional business directories, Bizzi is a new business-focused social media platform built specifically for Nigerian businesses.

Think of it as a platform that combines the discovery features of a business directory with the engagement and networking features of social media.

On Bizzi, businesses don’t just create listings. They create profiles, build audiences, publish content, engage with customers, and grow their online presence.

Businesses can post updates, promotions, announcements, videos, photos, success stories, and industry trends. Other users can like, comment, share, save, and follow businesses just like they would on a social media platform.

The platform features:

- A personalized Home Feed
- A “For You” feed that recommends trending business content
- A “Following” feed showing updates from businesses you follow
- An Explore Trends page for discovering trending business content
- A Discover Businesses page for finding businesses across Nigeria
- Advanced search filters to find businesses and content by category and location
- Follow systems that allow users to receive updates from their favorite businesses
- In-app notifications and email notifications
- Verified business badges for trusted businesses
- Post promotion tools to increase reach and visibility
- Monetization features for businesses and creators
- Saved posts for bookmarking valuable content
- Follower and following statistics
- Suggested businesses to follow

One of Bizzi’s biggest advantages is that it was built with business discovery in mind from day one.

The platform’s algorithm helps users discover trending business content and businesses around their location, making it easier for local businesses to reach nearby customers.

Unlike Facebook and Instagram, where business content often competes against personal updates, entertainment content, celebrity news, and viral videos, Bizzi is focused entirely on businesses, products, services, and entrepreneurship.

Another major advantage is search visibility.

Bizzi indexes business profiles and public trends on Google, helping businesses gain visibility both within the platform and through search engines. This means potential customers can discover businesses through Bizzi’s internal search system as well as through Google Search results.

Every business also gets access to a dedicated dashboard where they can manage their profile, content, followers, notifications, promotions, verification status, and account preferences.

For Nigerian entrepreneurs looking for a platform built specifically for business growth, customer discovery, and engagement, Bizzi offers a focused alternative to traditional social media platforms.

4. Finelib
Finelib is one of Nigeria’s oldest and most recognized online business directories. It contains thousands of business listings across different industries and locations in Nigeria.

Businesses listed on Finelib can benefit from:

- Increased online visibility
- Search engine exposure
- Local business discovery
- Customer inquiries

Many Nigerians searching for services online often come across Finelib pages in Google search results. Because of its long-standing presence and extensive database, it continues to be a useful platform for businesses looking to establish an online footprint.

For businesses focused on local search visibility, directories like Finelib can complement social media marketing efforts.

5. Business Connect Nigeria
Business Connect Nigeria is one of the newer business discovery platforms helping Nigerian businesses improve their online visibility.

The platform combines elements of local SEO, business directories, customer reviews, and business networking to help customers discover trusted businesses across Nigeria.

Business owners can create detailed business profiles that include:

- Business descriptions
- Contact information
- Images and videos
- Website links
- Social media profiles
- Business locations
- Customer reviews

One of its strongest advantages is its focus on search visibility. Business profiles are structured to help improve online presence and increase the chances of being found through search engines.

The platform covers businesses across multiple industries including technology, real estate, health, education, logistics, hospitality, professional services, and retail.

For small and growing businesses looking to expand their online footprint beyond social media, Business Connect Nigeria provides another channel through which potential customers can discover their products and services.

List your business: https://businessconnect.com.ng/add-business

Final Thoughts
Facebook and Instagram remain useful marketing channels, but they should not be the only platforms your business depends on.

Smart business owners diversify their online presence.

By combining social media with platforms such as Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, Bizzi, Finelib and Business Connect Nigeria you can increase your chances of being found by potential customers when they need your products or services.

The businesses that win online in 2026 and beyond will be the ones that make themselves easy to discover wherever customers are searching.

Political Impersonation: Accord Party Blasts Ibadan Coalition, Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum

The National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Chris Imumolen, has demanded immediate clarification from leading political actors including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and Seyi Makinde , as well as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)over the unauthorized use of the Accord Party’s identity in a purported coalition unveiled in Ibadan.

Prof. Imumolen described the inclusion of the Accord Party’s flag in the so-called coalition as political impersonation, not a misunderstanding.
He made it unequivocally clear: the Accord Party is not part of any coalition with the ADC, PDP, or any aligned bloc , and at no point authorized the use of its name, symbol, or platform in such an arrangement.

“This is not an oversight; it is a misrepresentation. The Accord Party will not be dragged into alliances it neither negotiated nor approved.”
The party warned that what played out in Ibadan raises serious questions about the credibility and transparency of the coalition itself, if it must lean on the identity of parties that are not even at the table.

Reaffirming its independent political direction, the Accord Party stated it remains focused on the 2027 general elections, with a clear ambition to present a presidential candidate under its own banner , not as a footnote in a hastily assembled coalition.

Prof. Imumolen has therefore issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the conveners and participants of the Ibadan meeting to publicly explain how and why the Accord Party’s identity was used without consent.

Failure to do so, he said, will trigger immediate legal action against all individuals and groups involved.

“You cannot borrow legitimacy by force. Those responsible must either explain themselves or prepare to defend their actions in court.”
The Accord Party insists it will vigorously protect its identity, structure, and political independence, and will not tolerate any attempt subtle or brazen , to appropriate its platform for political convenience.

As Nigeria moves toward 2027, the party maintains that it will engage Nigerians on its own terms, not through manufactured alignments or backdoor coalitions.

In a moment that has stirred excitement across Igbo communities online and beyond, respected cultural promoter Lilian Ogechi has been honoured with a prestigious Hall of Fame Award by Nma Alaigbo in recognition of her relentless efforts in promoting Igbo culture, language, values, and heritage.

The award, presented by the management of Nma Alaigbo, celebrates Lilian’s consistency and dedication through her widely followed cultural platform, Adaigbo Global, where she has built a strong community of thousands of followers committed to preserving and celebrating Igbo identity.

Visibly humbled by the recognition, Lilian Ogechi expressed deep gratitude, describing the award as more than a personal achievement but a validation of years of hard work and passion.

*“I am deeply honoured and sincerely grateful to receive this recognition from Nma Alaigbo, one of the foremost promoters of Igbo culture and entertainment on Facebook. This award is not just a personal achievement, but a testament that every effort made in promoting our people, culture, values, and heritage is seen and appreciated,”* she stated.

Known for her investigative approach to cultural storytelling, Lilian Ogechi has distinguished herself as one of the most consistent voices advocating Igbo pride. Through Adaigbo Global, she travels across communities, gathers firsthand information, conducts cultural reviews, and documents heritage stories that highlight the beauty and strength of Alaigbo.

Recently, she drew significant attention following her in-depth review of Dr. Godwin Maduka, examining his influence, philanthropy, and contributions toward community development. In pursuit of accurate reporting, she reportedly visited Umuchukwu to witness projects firsthand — a move widely praised for professionalism and commitment to factual storytelling.

Her followers also credit her for promoting initiatives that encourage Igbo unity, economic support, and cultural preservation. Many describe her work as bridging the gap between tradition and modern digital storytelling, ensuring younger generations remain connected to their roots.

With over 94,000 followers and growing influence, Adaigbo Global has evolved into a major online hub for Igbo cultural discourse, entertainment, language promotion, and heritage education.

Reacting further to the award, Lilian called on her followers to support organizations that promote cultural heritage.

“To everyone at Nma Alaigbo, thank you for this great honour. Your recognition means so much to me and will only inspire me to do even more in service of Alaigbo and our beautiful culture. May we continue to uplift, preserve, and celebrate the richness of our heritage for generations to come,” she added.

As congratulatory messages continue to pour in, many observers say the recognition is long overdue for a woman whose consistency, dedication, and passion have positioned her as one of the most influential promoters of Igbo culture on social media today.

Indeed, for Lilian Ogechi and the growing Adaigbo Global community, the mission remains clear — preserve the culture, promote the language, and celebrate the pride of Alaigbo.

Igwebuike. The movement continues.

Anambra APC Stakeholders Kick Against Alleged Plan to Remove Hon. Ejielo as Women Leader

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOpEZwR7R8U

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have strongly opposed an alleged move to alter the outcome of the party’s recent congress, where Hon. Maria Ejielo emerged as the State Women Leader.

In a petition addressed to the state chairman of the party, the aggrieved members described the purported plan to substitute Ejielo’s name with that of Mrs. Ify Okonkwo, who had earlier withdrawn from the race as unacceptable and a violation of democratic principles.

According to the stakeholders, the office of the State Women Leader, alongside that of the Zonal Legal Adviser, had been duly zoned to Idemili North Local Government Area by the Anambra State Congress Committee.

They noted that delegates and party faithful from the area participated fully in the congress held at the Anambra Central venue, where the elections were conducted transparently and without bias.

The petition detailed how interested candidates openly declared their intentions before party members.

For the position of State Women Leader, Hon. Maria Ejielo and Mrs. Ify Okonkwo indicated interest, while Hon. Chuma Chukwurah and Mr. Basil Ugwu contested for the office of Zonal Legal Adviser.

The stakeholders recounted that during the process, Mrs. Okonkwo reportedly displayed limited familiarity with the party’s local structure, a development that drew reactions from attendees.

Subsequently, upon observing the overwhelming support for Ejielo, Okonkwo voluntarily stepped down from the contest, paving the way for Ejielo’s emergence as the consensus winner.

Similarly, in the contest for Zonal Legal Adviser, Mr. Basil Ugwu withdrew after recognizing the strong backing for Hon. Chukwurah, who was thereafter declared winner.

The petition emphasized that the entire process was conducted in an open and credible manner, with video evidence available to attest to the transparency and compliance with democratic standards.

“It is therefore unfathomable to be informed that the results of the congress could be altered to favour individuals who neither participated meaningfully in the process nor demonstrated commitment to the party’s growth in Idemili North,” the statement read.

The stakeholders warned against any attempt to undermine the will of party members, insisting that such actions could destabilize the party’s unity and credibility at the grassroots level.

They reaffirmed their collective resolve to resist any imposition or manipulation of the congress outcomes, urging the party leadership to uphold the sanctity of the democratic process.

Nigerian businessman Olakunle Churchill has spoken about his relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo following comments from social media users suggesting the elder statesman might be his biological father.

Responding in the comment section, Churchil explained that a father figure is not necessarily the person who gave birth to you.

According to him, a father figure can also be an uncle, relative, or family friend who plays a significant role in raising, guiding, and mentoring someone while growing up:

He added that what truly matters is the role such a person plays in shaping one's life and the respect earned through that influence.

Churchill further revealed that through Obasanjo's influence, he attended a military school in Abeokuta where he spent much of his childhood.

IWD 2026: Skyewise Foundation affirms support for women in tech

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0wyjjPyqOc?si=q_GCazu85d8gyg3c

Skyewise Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding women’s participation in technology, highlightingdigital skills such as cybersecurity as a pathway to economic empowerment and leadership, ABUJAPRESS reports*

The commitment was reiterated at the Skills4Her International Women’s Day conference held in Abuja on Friday to mark International Women's Day 2026. Themed, “Give Skills, Gain Influence: Women’s Rights & Economic Leadership,” the event featured discussions on cyber security training, business growth, financial empowerment and women’s role in economic and civic leadership.

Speaking at the event, President of the Skyewise Group, Dr Elvis Abuyere who was represented by the Chief Operating Officer of the company, Stephanie Odia, stated that the organisation sees women’s empowerment as a strategic investment in innovation and sustainable growth.

Abuyere said the foundation remains committed to creating platforms that enable women to develop skills, contribute to industries and participate more actively in economic and leadership spaces.

“And of course, at Skyewise Group, we believe that empowering a woman is not just a social responsibility. It is a strategic investment in innovation, leadership and sustainable growth. And when women are given the platform to develop their skills, lead initiatives and influence decision making, the ripple effect extends far beyond even the workplace.

“Now, today's conference is a space for dialogue, learning and inspiration. It is an opportunity for us to share our experiences, strengthen network and reaffirm our commitment to supporting women in leadership, enterprise and economic participation. To every woman seated here today and around the world, your voice matters, your work matters," he said.

Head of Skyewise Foundation, Uchenna Stephanie Akurunwa, said the event focused on advancing women’s rights, advocacy and economic empowerment through skills development.

Akurunwa explained that the organisation was particularly interested in equipping women with digital skills that would enable them to access global opportunities and strengthen their economic independence.

She said cyber security was among the key trainings introduced during the programme as part of the foundation’s broader focus on technology-based skills.

She added that digital skills could help bridge that gap. She noted, “Right now, in 2026, cyber security is one of the most sought-after skills for anyone including women. With that training, you can reach out to international organisations, you can get a job”

She also disclosed that the foundation was planning an entrepreneurship and mentorship symposium in April to guide participants on grant applications and business development.

Cyber security facilitator at TerraSkills, Sophie Akpa, said technology offers opportunities for women to build solutions and contribute to digital innovation, adding that exposure to training and discussions can help more women explore careers in the sector.

She said initiatives such as the conference were designed to expose women to the possibilities within the technology space and encourage them to explore digital skills through training and mentorship, stressing that women bring unique perspectives needed to build balanced and inclusive digital solutions.

Automation specialist at Einao Solutions, Maureen Esekhile, said the narrative that women are underrepresented in technology may not accurately reflect the realities within the industry.

She noted that many women have already contributed significantly to technological development but often lack visibility and recognition.

She said: “Women are taking over tech, to be honest with you. Yes, because being 15 years in this industry, I’ll tell you that there are a lot of women who are doing a lot better in the sector. It’s just that we don’t have that avenue to be showcased.” She therefore urged more women to come out and be useful to the society and stop being the back bench.
