Police operatives have apprehended the suspected kidnappers of a famous Kano Qur’anic reciter, Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman who was abducted by gunmen along Sheme-Kankara road in Katsina State.

Sheikh Sulaiman, who regularly offered supplications for President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigeria at campaign rallies – spent 13 days in the hands of the hoodlums.

While being interrogated by security operatives, in a video obtained by National Helm, the gang leader, Lawal Ibrahim said some members of the terror group brutally attacked and killed one another after releasing the popular Quranic reciter and other Islamic clerics.

Ibrahim, a middle-aged man and another accomplice who gave his name as Isiyah, said ten of them were involved in the abduction of the renowned Islamic scholar who supported and offered prayers at political rallies for the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari in the build-up to the 2019 general elections.

The notorious kidnapper said they were arrested while trying to flee their abduction’s den to Obajana town in Kogi State, in search of legitimate unskilled jobs after quitting their ‘heinous’ trade of kidnapping.

A 22-year-old Nigerian man is wanted by police for breaching a gang injunction. Ayomide Olaribigbe, 22, of Willow Street, Romford, and Carlito Hall, 19, Walthamstow, were given a tough gang injunction last year for their involvement in the Thurrock-based C17 gang in England.

The injunction was secured by Essex Police with the support of the community and partners due to incidents of drug dealing, violence and anti-social behaviour linked to the gang.

Olaribigbe, who is also known as “Riggz”, is known to frequent the Tilbury, Grays and Romford areas.

A strange thing happened yesterday as a woman tried to use her child to collect a "loan" of N20,000 in Sapele area of Delta state.

The woman who claimed that the baby's father is based in America, said she wants to drop her daughter as a collateral in order to obtain the said amount as loan.

She said she wants to travel abroad to meet her child's father and when she returns, she will carry her baby and pay back the N20k loan.

Those who listened to the woman's story feel that she might be mentally unstable while some said she may be looking for an opportunity to abandon the baby and flee with the money.

According to confirmed reports, Nigerian owned businesses were targeted as some shops were vandalised and goods stolen in a recent Xenophobic attack which happened on Tuesday in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.

It was gathered that about eight Nigerians were abducted by South Africans in Evander, north-west of Secunda in Mpumalanga province of the country, but have been released after government intervention.

Some others were beaten mercilessly during attack by South African residents as can be seen in the video below.

Adetola Olubajo, president of the Nigerian union in South Africa, told NAN that the abducted Nigerians were released on Wednesday following pressure by the union on the South African authorities.

Olubajo said Nigerians in Evander had also informed the union about attacks on them in the province. “The mob arrested eight Nigerians and took them to an unknown destination.” Olubajo said the union had informed the Nigerian mission in South Africa about the incident.

A young man is currently battling for his life in a hospital after he was shot by suspected cultists in Delta.

According to reports, the undergraduate student was attacked and shot by the assailants yesterday night at the school gate of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe.

The victim simply identified as Emma by name was rushed to Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH) and is being attended to at the emergency unit.

The family of Late Deaconess (Mrs) Rose Williams Isong, have been mourning their loss since she passed away on March 15, 2019, barely a week after she exercised her franchise during the governorship and states House of Assembly elections in Akwa Ibom state.

Late Mrs Isong, who died of acute diabetes and irregular heartbeat, was a native of Ikot Ukobo village in Nsit Ubium local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to her son, Mr Williams Isong, Late Mrs Isong was billed for her medical checkups during the electioneering period, but she turned it down for fear of being confined to the hospital bed while the elections would be going on.

Late Isong exercised her franchise at Ibiakpan Obotim Ward 1, Unit 008, according to her son. He said;

"My mother was so passionate about voting for Governor Udom Emmanuel to win the governorship elections. She was also eager to vote for Speaker Onofiok Luke to go and represent us at the green chambers. Again, she was very concerned about returning Senator Bassey Albert to the Senate".

"For these reasons, she missed her medical checkups. I tried convincing her to change her mind but she would not listen. She was very eager to exercise her franchise to satisfy her conscience. She feared that if she went for the checkup, she would be placed on a bed rest and would not be able to vote during the elections".

According to reports, ten wanted Nigerian mafia gang members including women have been arrested by security operatives in France and Germany.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested in co-ordinated raids in Paris, Marseille, Nice and Nancy areas in France and also in Regensburg, Germany. The mafia organization said to be involved in human and drug trafficking among other crimes - reportedly operated for some time in Sicily, Italy.

They were arrested by the International police in collaboration with their French and German colleagues under a European Arrest Warrant which the court's examining magistrate had signed in Catania (Italy) on January 26. The prosecutor's office turns against the mafia group which targets drug trafficking, sexual violence including gang violence.

Among the suspects arrested is one who is considered the head of the organization, Happy Uwaya, who was apprehended in Paris.

According to police report, the suspects are part of a widespread organization in various European countries known as "The Supreme Vikings Brotherhood".

It was reported that there have been repeated clashes with other groups to maintain supremacy over other foreign communities.

Students of Alvan Ikoku College of Education in Owerri, Imo state, have been thrown into mourning after one of their own passed away following an attack by armed robbers.

The deceased identified as Alex Jude, a final year student of the institution - was shot by gun-weilding armed robbers on Monday, March 25th. It was gathered that victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Owerri, where he reportedly had a sucessful operation.

He was said to have died the next day as his corpse has since been deposited in the morgue.

His friends and colleagues have taken to social media to mourn the loss.

A man based in Akwa Ibom state has revealed how he saw a lady being beaten up by her lover in a shop because she attended the birthday party of a Honourable and slept over. According to the beater, he decided to teach the lady a lesson after purportedly picking her up from the streets five years ago and taking care of her since then.

The lady who was warned and urged to leave the man due to the constant beatings, still went back to him after he begged her and promised not to beat her again, a pledge which he failed to keep.

Two weeks ago I was at a shop with a friend to purchase something. While bargaining, the shop owner suddenly said to me "Please sir help! Ke eya wod ayin ako." (they'll kill that pikin) I asked where? And she pointed to the shop opposite hers. The glass door has been closed but you could see people struggling at a critical look.

I crossed over. Forced the door open and behold a helpless girl being given heavy wrestlemania punches by a hefty man. Her girlfriend was holding him and murmuring don't beat her again. When he sighted us, he gradually stopped hitting her but vexatiously saying I'll kill you. You can't work here again.

I calmed him down and he began narrating how he picked the girl from the road, visited her people and spent about 100k blablabla. How the girl had lived with him for 5 years but recently started misbehaving. The core reason for this particular beating was that, the girl followed her madam to a birthday party of a certain Honorable against his wish and to worsen it, She slept over!

I rebuked the guy for laying hands on her. I was so bitter. Seeing the girl was determined to move on and the guy vowing to kill her if she quits, I took her to the police to report the threat so the guy can be invited to sign an undertaking. (this was after the guy left). She went, parked her things to her girlfriend's place and was so serious.

To my greatest surprise when I saw her two days ago, she said sir I went back to him. He came pleading and has promised never to beat me again. I smiled and told her congratulations! I'm putting up this post because an hour ago she called asking for help that the guy has beaten her again.

Members of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) posed with the dead body of a notorious Boko Haram commander after killing him during operation.

The Boko Haram commander was killed along with some of his fighters recently during offensive engagements conducted across the areas of responsibilities in Nigeria, Chad, and Niger Republic.

Acting on intercepted Boko Haram communication, a coalition of MNJTF Air Forces conducted air interdictions in Madayi, Meri and Tchoukou-Bol and destroyed Boko Haram logistic equipment concealed in thickly forested areas.

Similarly, troops of the MNJTF and national forces operating in Doro Naira and Ngolom environs made contact with Boko Haram Terrorists and at the end of the engagement 5 terrorists were killed, 3 captured, while others fled. 2 out of the 3 captured terrorists were eventually killed when the vehicle conveying them went over a road side bomb planted by Boko Haram themselves.

Dramatic scenes were recorded at the burial of a Nigerian lady identified as Amarachi Emmanuella who was allegedly beaten to death by her husband last year. The man was accused of beating his pregnant wife to death, after 19 days of marriage.

He was alleged to have assaulted his wife and told her parents that she was sick before death. He said his pregnant wife died of ‘shortage of blood’ and blood pressure after being rushed to the hospital.

The deceased was buried few days ago in a cemetry amid tight security as the husband refused people from attending the burial event. Those who came were asked not to enter the cemetry as can be seen in the video below. He reportedly told the family not to come to the burial with more than five people.

The husband also refused to pour sand for the late wife in her grave at the funeral, which sparked concerns among some attendees. The family of the deceased laid curses at the event and prayed for her killer to be brought to justice.

Congratulations are in order for an executive of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos state chapter, Idumota Azeez Lawal popularly knonw as Kunle Poly, who got wedded to his fiancee yesterday.

The NURTW factional leader tied the knot in style to his partner identified as Olayinka Lamerica, in an event graced by family, friends and colleagues.

The wedding is coming days after the road union rivalry in Lagos, appeared to have been brought to an end following the reunion between the its executives. The NURTW top shots, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle a.k.a Sego, Alhaji Azeez Lawal a.k.a Kunle Poly and Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya a.k.a MC Oluomo, were pictured together in an event.

A Nigerian man who drove a car at a man and woman after a dispute has been jailed in the United Kingdom. Michael Fasan, 28, was found guilty of attempted murder and dangerous driving at the Old Bailey, London in February.

He was sentenced on Thursday, 28 March at the same court to 12 years for attempted murder; 18 months for dangerous driving; and four months for driving whilst disqualified, all to run concurrently. He was also disqualified from driving for thirteen years.

The court heard how in the early hours of Sunday, 19 August 2018, Fasan had approached a woman outside of a nightclub on South Street, Romford and asked for her telephone number. The woman refused Fasan’s request and said she had a boyfriend.

Later on, Fasan approached the woman, who was with a male friend in Chandlers Way and continued to ask for her number. He also asked the woman’s friend if he was her boyfriend. Fasan’s behaviour was challenged by the man and an argument ensued between the two males. Fasan was heard to say ‘my name is Sparks and you’re in my ends’ moments before getting into the driver’s seat of a Ford Focus.

Fasan then intentionally drove the vehicle at the man ploughing into him and another innocent woman. The male sustained wounds to his back and a laceration to his finger. The woman sustained minor cuts and bruises.

After a video of the incident circulated on social media on Tuesday, 21 August 2018, Detectives of the East Area Command Unit began an investigation which eventually led to his arrest.

A man took his own life by jumping into a well in Oghara community, Delta State. According to reports, the man was retrieved dead, from the well which he had jumped into in an attempt to take his life on Wednesday.

It was gathered that many residents were left in shock over the sad incident, being that the victim was a well-known member of the community.

The body of the young man was recovered from the well by youths, and it was also reported that he could not be buried, but rather disposed off, mainly because the manner of his death was seen as a taboo in the community.

An unidentified food vendor was reportedly electrocuted in Umuahia, Abia state capital on Thursday. The incident happened at the Michael Okpara square, on club road, few meters away from the Umuahia event centre.

According to eyewitness account, the deceased who was a sales assistance to the owner of food stand, was reportedly killed while trying to rescue a coworker who was allegedly under electric shock.

It was gathered that a high tension cable had cut and fell on a stake wire attached to an electric pole under which the food vendors were doing their business.

But unknown to them, the first victim who is said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital - touched the pole and while under the electric shock cried for help. Her scream attracted the deceased who went to render help but unfortunately could not survive the electrocution.

It was gathered that she died while being taken to the hospital with a tricycle and her remains was brought back to the food stand and covered with her clothes.
