Hello! I am interested in being a medical writer for your company for a token. This is because, as a practitioner, I have noticed the way some words were mispelt; and that matters much to me since it is an advertisement.

So why are we just calling off the strike? Why were we asking for Dr Obembe's head when he called off the strike a week or so ago? Someone said doctors are toothless bull dogs! Please tell me why I will disagree with him now?

All these take us back to our state as a nation-poverty and fear of the unknown. This is why we won't have a revolution in Nigeria any time soon. If doctors do not respect the minister of health, it's really really sad because he's first a doctor ,but respect a long standing politician like David Mark: Wahala dey be dat! Oh well-

Abraham Maslow ended the debate. People who are hungry do not desire bridges and human rights, they just want to eat. 1st of all"

Sad much!RIP Nigeria's clinical medicine!so why didn't we call off the strike since? So Sen David Mark is more credible than Prof Chukwu and Sen Anyim? Now NMA dare not suffer poor Nigerians by striking ever again because it will be worthless IMO.

I havent tried it. Because of the severity of this case, i have decided to get it all out and quickly conceive by God's Grace. Age is not on my side and that of my husband.

Most people say this herbs dont work and even if they do, they may take a longer time.

However, i will look up Kedi prducts on the net.

Thank you.
My candid advice is that if you want to have fibroids removed, you should look for a good gynaecologist in Nigeria. Ask around and get referrals. This is because fibroid is seen mostly in black people thus doctors who see this condition often tend to treat it better, you may be surprised that very few western(US inclusive) have ever seen and treated fibroid.

U know the truth, but u are just trying to twist the truth, this is not goin to help us, our society is geting wiser day by day.
In nigeria, the CMD is doing the job of a CEO. This office is not a clinlcal position and shld not be an exclusive reserve for physicians. The office of the CMD in nigeria, is purely managerial and adminlstrative and could be occupied by any body.

The office of CMAC, in nigeria, is same as MD in developed world, is purely clinical office and should be occupied by a consultant physician.

For our heath care to grow, we need CEOs who will run our hospitals without any professional bias.

It is only the truth that will set us free.

Not true dear! The CMD sure is managerial but has lots of clinical bias. There is a director of Administration who works directly almost at par with the CMD and they are both answerable to the Chairman of board. Please Google is our friend. You can only say there may be no need for the CMAC position and for that I have no opinion grin

DanNafada:

I respect your position in some ways but you really do not have to go on a TOTAL strike to get things done. You only lose respect the more.
Why not simply decide to cancel clinics and other non-essential services? Why do you have to stop emergency services knowing quite well that people will die DAILY as a consequence? I am sorry, you cannot defend that.
No no don't get it wrong!Consultants are managing the cases already on admission including twice daily rounds in the intensive care units. Emergencies are also being attended to. The strike affects cold and elective cases. Mind you I'm also a victim of the strike too o!my antenatal clinic has also been cancelledsad

DanNafada: My little contribution as a doctor who has worked in a teaching hospital in Naija and now working in the NHS:

1. It is an absolute shame for any doctor to go on total strike, for whatever reason. There is just no justification for causing so much suffering and death in a profession that is considered to be as noble as Medicine.
2. The Chief Executive of every major health organization or hospital in most of the West is NOT a doctor. In the NHS for example, there is a Medical Director and others below him who are doctors but the head honcho is the Chief Executive, who is usually not a doctor.
3. There are Nurse Consultants in the NHS but they are mainly based in tertiary academic units and hardly involved in daily clinical care.
4. The first and only time I remember the BMA agreeing to a Doctor's strike in England, emergency and other essential services were not affected. Hardly anybody noticed there was a strike going on and most of this was because doctors voluntarily decided it would have been unethical, even if the reason for considering the strike was justified.

Nigerians have enough on their hands as it is. That a group of very educated and essential professionals cannot see why it is necessary to get back to work simply for the sake of the common man is extremely sad.

Yes you are right and have only repeated what doctors have been saying. The CEO, AKA chairman of board AKA policy maker of the hospital must not be doctor and that already happens. You further corroborated that the medical director AKA CMD must be a doctor, that's what we are also saying. We have also researched and found that nurse and pharmacy consultants exist but not in clinical/hospital settings. Thanks for buttressing our points! Finally I agree strike shouldn't be a first or middle resort but a last resort and that's why NMA at its wit's end, has resorted to strike. I think it's justifiable and recently in 2012 doctors in scotland went on strike too.

I sincerely think the problem, besides the epidemic Nigerian factor, lies with the training of most of these allied health workers. If your teachers make it known that you are not superior, equal or inferior to doctors then all these problems won't even arise. Every specialty is unique, special and different. If you like to be a doctor with all the risks of failing, growing old before graduating, extremely long work hours etc fine, and ofcourse a chance at being cmd, lucky u! If u want to be a nurse with the joys of graduating really young, earning well, still have a lot of time for the pleasures of life fine, and ofcourse chance of being the head matron or ADNS with its plentiful pecks, lucky u too! Everyone has a price to pay and if that is not being CMD and consultants in the hospital, y'all better move on!

A victim is usually advised not to take water or any food, this is because a) if the person's consciousness deteriorates, he may aspirate fluids into the lungs b) the extent of injury has not been assessed, as some may require surgical intervention+general anaesthesia- also for the aspiration risk.

Thanks for all that info.

The big reason besides pay differences for not duplicating titles to avoid confusion for patients and others.

In developed worlds, you have to identify your function to every patient - Doctor, nurse, nurse assistant, physician assistant, nurse practitioner etc.

Even Pharm. Ds do not identify themselves as Doctors because of the potential for confusion. The ones that have clinical roles will tell patients that they are pharmacists.
But the envy and the love of titles in Nigeria is just unbelievable.

Also duplication of all these names will encourage quackery. And by the way, why do we need more "consultant" titles. The only thing I can see is for increased paychecks or aspiration towards some benefits for medical consultants.

The consultants we have haven't even cured malaria. It is still the biggest killer of children in Nigeria. Women die like chicken from childbirth!!! Simple preventable things we never do!!!

Exactly! My point being that no other consultants work in hospitals apart from doctors. By the way consultant nurses already exist in many HMOs in Nigeria and that is where they are needed. And then the specialist nurses especially midwives work in rural areas in Nigeria like in the health centers etc

drcakes: Nigeria never ceases to amaze me.
Just when you think you have seen it all.
prescribing anti tuberculous drugs online?
And We are discussing multi drug resistant and extensively drug resistant tuberculosis in the ministry of health.
And to make matters worse people are supporting the op.
I have a better idea. Get MDCN/PSN involved after investigation to unravel who this is because no pharmacist will do this .
Pharmacist know there is a German Leprosy TB Control Centre operating in Nigeria, with health care professionals who counsel patients, investigate and give them the drugs free of charge under direct observed treatment to prevent drug resistance
Maybe when the op has been arrested for impersonation and his/her heels are being cooled in jail others will learn
Abeg the op no be pharmacist jor! Let PSN catch u, na jail u go rot for misleading and misinforming the public, misrepresenting facts and impersonation. God will judge people like you, always trying to cause chaos among learned colleagues of the highly esteemed medical profession. Shame on u and your quackery. Because there's a strife between doctors and JOHESU miscreants like you take advantage of it to wickedly mislead the innocent and poorly informed public. Shame on you cause we must all triumph for the good of our patients!

Consultants and Chief Medical Officers in other Government Hospitals in the Developed World (International best practices/standards).

We do not need to travel far and wide to know what is happening in other parts of the world because the world has become a global village, all thanks to information technology.
The conflict in Nigeria health sector has tugged me to search for what is obtainable on the key warring issues in other developed countries. Ideally the Nigeria Health system format is supposed to be compared with that of the Britain(not the American’s) since Nigeria adopted and is using the British educational/health systems; however reference has been made on American health system in this write up, for obvious reason. I deliberately sourced for all information from current and popular international encyclopedia and/or professional websites not hosted by medical doctors.

Medical/hospital Consultant
The term or title “consultant” is coined from consultation. It is wise to see the standard definitions of medical consultation; which are:
Medical consultation is a formal meeting with a medical doctor for discussion or the seeking of advice….{ www.en.m.wikipedia.org/consultation(medical)}.
It is also defined as a procedure whereby, on request by one Physician, another Physician reviews a patient’s medical history, examines the patient and makes recommendation as to care and treatment….. ( www.medical dictionary.freedictionary.com/medical consultation).

In the UK, Republic of Ireland and parts of the commonwealth countries Medical Consultant is the title of a senior hospital-based physician or surgeon who has completed all of his/her specialist training….. {www. en.m.wikipedia.org/consultant (medicine) , www.medical dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/consultant(medicine), www.gapmedics.co.uk/difference between consultant and a doctor in a hospital }

Consultant Pharmacist
In America Pharmacists are broadly grouped into two:
1. Health system pharmacist
2. Consultant pharmacist
The health system pharmacist is hospital-based pharmacist that provides care to patient on healthcare team. They undergo residency training but are not awarded the title of consultant….(www.asph.org).

Consultant Pharmacists are pharmacist that work as private pharmacist for individual elderly persons or is employed to work in old people homes(institute) to enhance quality of care for all old persons. They are non-hospital staff and do not undergo residency training but write preparation/recertification examinations. They are also called senior care pharmacist… (www.ascp.com).

In USA Consultant Nurse is a registered nurse who uses expertise as a healthcare provider and specialized training to consult on medical related legal case. They assist attorneys in reading medical records and understanding medical terminology and healthcare issues to achieve the best results for their client. They are non-hospital staff….( www.en.m.wikipedia.org/nurse consultant)

Chief Medical Director (Office)
This title is used in many countries for the senior government official designated as head of medical services, usually at the national level. He advices and leads a team of medical experts on matters of importance. { www.en.m.wikipedia.org/chief medical officer, medical dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/chief medical officer, www.ehow.com/chief medical officer, www. gov.uk/government/people/sally-davies}

Surgeon General
In the United States and many areas of the British Commonwealth, this title refers to a physician commissioned by government and entrusted with the public health responsibilities.
In Uk Surgeon General is the senior medical officer of the British Armed Forces… ( www.en.m.wikipedia/surgeon general UK/USA).

Hospital Chief Executive Officer is the highest management position within a hospital in the capitalist countries. He or she is expected to have masters in business Administration, masters in healthcare Administration etc….( in Nigeria such a position is designated as Director of Administration in Teaching Hospitals)……www.degreetree.com/how to become a hospital ceo.

Health Care Professionals are divided into two broad groups:
1. Core Healthcare Professionals
2. Support (Allied) Healthcare Professionals
The core professionals are doctors, nurses and pharmacists….others, except these three, are allied professionals…… (www.wikipedia.org/allied health professions)

Pardon the long post!

Ok a pharmacist is the chairman of board of national hospital Abuja. Doesn't that make sense now? The chairman of board is equivalent to the CEO, he and his board members including all the directors make policies concerning the hospitals day to day activities. As expected the CMD- Medical director is a doctor as obtains all over the world. Talk about benchmarking with world's best practices!

How on earth will I know the type of boil he has, do I have spirtual eyes, if you read all my post, I kept emphasing they go for scan or lab test but I still prescribe a drug for maintenance. Nairaland is faceless, how do you expect me to test them , some people even withheld information and am only trying my best. I won't insult you but if you have any issue, take it to the moderator or start your own thread and possibly organise a lab test For them spiritually thanks
No dear, I am not blind. I am just scared, afraid, perplexed and worried that what you are doing is dangerous and shouldn't be allowed by any health professional mbok. If I remember what I read on your intro, u didn't include diagnosis. You asked that they should seek clarification on their drugs, compliance, interactions et al;that is ethical and allowed. But when you decide to diagnose and treat ailments online or do things beyond your scope of training, my dear fellow human being, That is quackery and it is dangerous. I am certain if you or a member of your family has those ailments, you will do the right thing. Please and please let's do the right thing for the sake of posterity

Oh mehn shocked. This is not just wrong, it is unfair to the "patient". OMG, how can one treat a rash that one hasn't seen? There are a million and one types of rashes. How can one prescribe anusol for a boil in the anus? How did u diagnose this 'boil'? And the height of it all is to ask someone to take anti TB medications which mostly is directly observed for the first few months. If really the op is pharmacist, then I give up on Nigeria's health sector? Nah I doubt he is though, pharmacists have not descended that low to outright quackery!
