Part of the universe has been observed to be expanding. We don't know what the universe is so how can you conude that the tiny part we can observe is everything? The observable universe is expanding. We don't know if the whole stuff is expanding because we can only observe a tiny part of it.

Alan Guth is more respected than Stephen Hawkings among cosmologits. There is no scientific consensus on the matter. That is the truth. It hasn't been settled yet because we can only observe a tiny part of the universe.

What about the radiation echo ? What about the afterglow of the Big Bang ? All these suggest it has a beginning .

All these simply suggest that the observable universe started expanding from a source which cosmologist refer to as a singularity. They can't see beyond that. It doesn't mean that there is nothing that exist beyond that. Learn to listen and understand what they are saying.

Expansion has nothing to do with the universe being finite. It is just expanding endlessly into space. A space that we haven't determined if it has limits or not. It can keep expanding endlessly no one knows. It can burn up all its enwegy and be converted into something else. The universe it self can change and transform into something else. Doesn't mean it's finite. No one know of the universe is finite or not, there are postulations on all sides. The reality remains different because no one knows. We don't know what the universe is, we don't know if it is part of something else or the universe is all there is. We just don't know and so far it seems it is just impossible to know.

While some are saying that the observable part of the universe had a beginning others are saying that we know very little about it to make that conclusion. They insist that a greater part of it is unobservable to us as such we can not know if it is finite or infinite. There is NO scientific consensus on that.

Cosmologists tell us that there is a very significant part of the universe that is outside of our observable portion of the universe but it is impossible to say for sure that it is infinite. We just don't know.

Super advanced material beings that are eternal. We don't even know for sure if the universe had a begining. The big bang model postulates so but many proponents of the big bang will clearly tell you that they don't know if the universe is eternal or not.
