obailala: Every man will die one day, Buhari is currently 75 years old (possibly older), so of Buhari dies today, there's nothing new or unusual about that. Political losers like FFK and co should spare is their silly theories of God killing Buhari or whatever.
Meanwhile, what exactly is wrong with El Rufai becoming the VP to Osinbajo?... Can FFK and his faithful followers please tell us why I or anyone else should be worried about that?... Cos as far as I know in 2019, PDP will be fronting a northern candidate, same as APDA and APC would be taking a very dicey gamble if they dont also bring a noryhern candidate. this people either don't think or just refuse to. anything said to bring paint this government bad is okay with them whether lie or not. |

You need to understand that Dino is a lawmaker, NOT a contractor or an executive.
I think majority of Nigerians need to be educated on the constitutional duties and responsibilities of the arms of government. we actually know, but are they not the same lawmakers who add constituency project to the national budget. if its a norm for them, why cant he do same?? or why cant he lobby for FG projects or call constituency town all meetings. Dino does nothing |

Except you are from kogi west or live there, you have no right to say Yahaya bello is behind the recall. Fine Yahaya is the worst, the pain state workers are going through is unbelievable. Screening upon screening yet no money. But Dino is a bastard, this guy sees himself as a god, wen he is going to his home town na siren and long convoy, yet no meaningful rapport with his constituency. Youths who have an opportunity to meet him, he gives 500 to buy condom (youth empowerment indeed) Have never seen a project by him, hes LGA has one of the worst living standards yet he shows off with high end cars.

Now one mofo will cone here to say I am harsh on yoruba muslims. Of all the myriads of problems confronting Nigeria and the sporadic increase in radicalization of youths by ISIS and some bunch of islamic fanatics and the next action of this Islamic APshit govertment was to render crk insignificant and inseted arabic studies into the curriculum. A subtle move to radicalise our unborn children and make them easy recruits for isis and tbeir muslim aologists.
Here we have a typical yoruba muslim afonjanistic slave defending this impunity and licking the ass of his abokiii slave masters up north. The supposedly educated Yoruba muslims always the willing tools in the hands of the educafionally disadvantaged north. What a pity. Buhari spoke in Hausa. They say it doesnt matter.

omohayek: But I've already mentioned an alternative to increased taxation - private-sector investment! There is simply no reason why governments need to be doing most of the things the Nigerian state and federal governments try (and mostly fail) to do: all air/sea-ports can and should be privatized - as should railways - and even critical infrastructure can easily be provided by the private sector, given the right incentives: for example, Tokyo and Kyoto have excellent subway systems that are privately built and run. Britain's turnpike trusts of the late 1800s - which were crucial to the industrial revolution - were entirely privately funded. People who expect everything to be "free" may resent Fashola's emphasis on PPP, but it gave Lagos a level and quality of investment that other states can't even dream of matching.
The truth is that the world is currently awash in excessive private savings looking for good places to invest, but Nigerian governments have managed to squander this golden opportunity through business-unfriendly policies and corruption-riddled administration. Just look at how Buhari's "strong" Naira policy has discouraged FDI, by preventing investors from being able to easily repatriate their profits, or how the Land Use Act of 1979 has wrecked havoc on determining private property rights; look at how badly Nigeria fares on the Ease of Doing Business rankings and weep!
I'm stressing the private investment issue because the harsh reality is that we are going to need tens of billions of US dollars in annual investment in infrastructure alone, and there is simply no way we will be able to afford that from any resource rents; my awareness of this titanic funding gap is why I warned on here so long ago that Fashola's "huge" $1 billion budget would never make a noticeable difference in fixing the problems he would be dealing with. Resource rents will only encourage our politicians in the delusion that they don't have to face this fact head on. my bad, guess i didn't quite understand that. from this now i can see we aligned to some extent by having the private sector invest in those industries. definitely the government needs to hand off some industries (rail, airport, mining, agriculture, ports) the government need just make laws that will make it easy for the private sector investment. kudos to you |
Politics › Re: Draft Of The Oodua Region Yoruba Constitution by Dalek(m): 7:55pm On Jul 03, 2017 |
AshiwajuFoward: To be sure, mining, industrialization, and agric sectors mustn't and won't be neglected. California for example rakes in 10s of billions of dollars from its Agric sector annually. But that sector needs to be completely overhauled in the SW. Mechanized farming/agric and value addition to Agro produce and outputs is the way to go. exactly, enabling laws and environment should be created for the success of those industries. We have dem already, lets use them judiciously to fund new industrial revolution. i read about how we are currently importing ceramic, while we have all the resources to make dem. so sad wen we neglect what we have in abundant to start importing and wasting forex. imagine kogi state produce the highest number of cashew nuts, have seen this myself (square miles of cashew plantation) with the potential to become number one in the world, but becos no adequate investment we can't process those nuts and dey just rot. |
Politics › Re: Draft Of The Oodua Region Yoruba Constitution by Dalek(m): 7:50pm On Jul 03, 2017 |
omohayek: While I understand what you're saying about needing funds in the short term, I still don't think the political temptations such funding brings will be worth it. There simply can't be effective representation without the voting public having tight control over the purse strings, and that means taxation has to be where the vast majority of public money comes from.
Another reason why I don't want any reliance on resource-based government spending is that it tempts politicians into interfering in matters that are best left to the private sector. When taxpayers are footing the bill, foolish, revenue-destroying, white-elephant prestige projects become a lot harder to sell (e.g. Ajaokuta, Nigeria Airways), and politicians are forced to concentrate on just those things that will make a direct difference to ordinary people's lives - law and order, education, healthcare, good transportation infrastructure, business-friendly regulations, etc.
The long and short of it is that natural resource rents are the political equivalent of fast-food: they may fill an immediate short-term need, but the long-term damage they do simply isn't worth it in most cases. Better that we run a lean, efficient, taxpayer-funded government that recognizes upfront the primacy of the private sector, instead of one where thieving politicians fight over whose "turn" it is to "chop" from a "national cake", and then use overstaffed, inefficient parastatals and government organizations to reward their followers with deadweight "jobs". Taxpayers should be able to feel outraged at the sight of lazy, absentee or corrupt government workers, and have a reasonable expectation of seeing their anger translated into effective action by politicians who want to keep their jobs and can't rely on godfather funding to do so.
As for your point about agriculture, I agree productivity needs raising, but this doesn't require costly, heavy-handed government interaction: see here for more of my thoughts on the subject. tax would and should take a fore front, Lagos as example tax anything taxable other states can learn from that. but overtly relying on tax can be a detriment to the populace. think about it, after separation from the old Republic our economy may take a hit as we try and find our footing. An Alternative to increased tax (personal income, company and VAT) should be explored. The new Constitution should enshrine what the earnings gotten from land and mineral resources should be used for. So politicians have no choice but to follow it or leave. |
Politics › Re: Draft Of The Oodua Region Yoruba Constitution by Dalek(m): 7:09pm On Jul 03, 2017 |
omohayek: Mineral resources are not the means to long-term wealth, human resources are. Mineral resources are actually a huge part of why Nigeria is a failing state - read up on the resource curse: leaders who don't depend on the taxes they raise from their citizens have less incentive to pay attention to what they want, while the prospect of being able to cream off unearned wealth from resource extraction turns politics into a "do or die" affair where everybody running for office wants their turn to "chop" from the "national cake".
Avoiding resource-related issues is one reason why I am strongly against extending any prospective state towards the Niger-Delta in the name of embracing the Itsekiri. If it were up to me, even the oil found off the coast of Ondo and Lagos would go up in flames tomorrow. It's time we stopped distracting ourselves with such lazy-minded nonsense and focused on learning the science and technology of tomorrow: what natural resources do the likes of Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Japan, Switzerland and South Korea have? I never meant depend on mineral resources as a permanent earning. it's just a case using what we have to get to where we need to be. We have skillful and innovation human resources no doubt and ICT is the new crude oil but as a new nation who needs all the revenue we can get, exploring and exploiting our lands and resources in a sane possible way will help shore up our forex while using those earnings to develop the new sectors. Agriculture can also not be left behind, we have a nation to feed and fast. creating an enabling environment for it's development and strategic food reservation silos to create surplus b4 export can begin. |

Thank God we are bless with cocoa, oil palm, rubber, etc. Then information technology is a sector we need to harnes for the currency we may need to continue with the Naira, but the name of the new republic may also determine it. for forex, agriculture,IT and mineral resources is our best bet. thats one reason i would want us to include if not all but parts of kogi, it has the resources. of course Government policy on easy of doing business is important also. we also need to review some of our bilateral agreements. |

forgiveness: I agree with your first and second paragraph but the last paragraph is what brought an end to the Oyo empire. The quest for economic growth over military strength.
I think if we are dreaming of becoming a world power, we must invest in the military else we will be vulnerable to our neighbors on the west, East and North.
Besides, what can bring a unified Omoluabi together is common enemy. Without this forget unity in Omoluabi land.
Therefore, I will advise we fight for all the lands in Nigeria, especially those who have identified with the state first, then after we are stable, move to recover the ones from Benin and Togo (if they want oooo). emphasis on military will only cause problems for us, if Nigeria breaks we will get some military installation all we need do is maintain them. who we at war with?? is it North dat want to attack us or biafra?? i also dnt agree with recover Togo or Benin. how can we recover wat we never owned. dey may have Yoruba links but dey were never Nigerians, we can't attack and forcibly attach them to our new republic. |

omohayek: I think a lot of the negative sentiment on here is just a reaction to the relentless insults and accusations that have been coming from certain quarters, not a real indication of how people would feel under calmer circumstances. The fact is that a universal scheme of deportation is simply unworkable, as
* The Yoruba electorate wouldn't stand for it, not if it affected their own relatives and close friends - and vast numbers of Yoruba people would have at least a few such acquaintances. * It would be extremely damaging to external relations. Western nations wouldn't find it so easy to lend the new state their support if it were made to look like a chauvinistic, xenophobic place in their publics' eyes, and the backing of powers like the USA, the UK, France and Germany is still extremely valuable, especially when it comes to weapons and military training. * It would severely discourage FDI, which will be needed in quantities far greater than Nigeria has ever had, if the state is to be a productive, export-oriented place, rather than yet another struggling African state dependent on subsistence agriculture and resource extraction.
Hard-headed, pragmatic reasoning therefore suggests that as much as some people might wish otherwise, no blanket policy of expulsion could be implemented without severe blowback. As I mentioned earlier, there are subtler ways of achieving the intended effects without pretending that all foreigners are equally (un)desirable. well said, we Yorubas have always believed in "surulere". it is what made us a successful lot. fine we may over do the suru too much. Qatar has an indigene 300k while migrant workers of over 2 million. As a Yoruba nation a simple laid down rules for dealing with this minorities and non indigenes would help alot for us. i believe we need to give dem a fair deal, after all it was Nigeria dem made dem come to our land, we can't give a bad child to a Lion. |
Politics › Re: Draft Of The Oodua Region Yoruba Constitution by Dalek(m): 7:30am On Jul 03, 2017 |
Well i see the issue of adding some minorities and deporting non indigenes will be a big issue. well i for one believe in thd goodness of people. Yorubas can't be expert in many things, diversity in our human resources would help in the long run, remember the people are what makes a nation great. Fine we want to avoid the issue of them screaming marginalization, but i believe we can get above dat by simple dialogue, believe it our not we Yorubas would be the majority like 96% to maybe 4% to others, now unlike the present Nigeria with high percent of major tribes. marginalization will never come like it is nigeria now, they get their states, make their laws, govern demsef, control whatever resources dey have. Believe me if the ilajes, ijaws in ondo, ebiras vote to join they will be accepted by their neighbors, we have no choice but to accommodate them on clear terms of unity. now the issue of deportation of some, i support that to an extent. People should be given a specific time to round up dere affairs and leave voluntary, people who have no registered business, landed property should be made to leave. people who own property or business should be made to apply for naturalization, including people who were born on Yoruba soil but of non indigenous parent's. the children are citizens of the Yoruba nation be default except they choose not to. forcibly deporting people will make us look bad, this people can go get ECOWAS passport and come back, working visas also, business visa also. i believe in a greater border control, we need to create border post at all port of entry, where we check the influx of migrants. i know not all will agree with me, but it better you don't, this is how manifesto are born, how political parties are convene. we just let the citizens decide on what/who dey want. See you all at the polls. |

Olu317: That is not going to be possible. There are other kings that will feel cheated over this. It will be messy. There isn't any iota of doubt that Ooni own the oldest crown and is the sit of power of Olofin Adimula but other Obas will grumble at this and this might bring some sort of discord among all the people of different clans in Yoruba land. A lot of Yoruba have failed to realize that the reason Alaafin is angry is because Oyo's might and glory are not been placed affront in the like manner, Ooni's stool is been adored. This is the bone of contention and until the wise men within the Yoruba world understand that, each Yoruba enclave with her King should be promoted alongside the clan's beautiful heritage, while Ooni hold his supreme position as the head King. Truthfully all Obas will always play their role but not in politics. laudate: Guys, someone asked why the thread on the Oodua Constitution draft was deleted. I sighed. I could feel the angst and disappointment in everyone's posts, when they couldn't find the thread.
Something similar happened to this same thread too, that made respondents lose interest in continuing the stimulating discussions that took place daily here.
Initially, knowledge flowed like water, right here. Historical, cultural and political ties were shared and discussed. Ideas on how to move the Southwest region forward, were debated with passion. The camaraderie was infectious. Both Yorubas and non-Yorubas like myself, enjoyed ourselves immensely. In less than 21 days, the thread grew to over 250 pages plus. Even the DAWN programmes were discussed and analysed. This thread became a treasure trove.
That was when we started noticing strange things happening.
The Yoruba Commonwealth thread was first moved to the Culture section. After several objections, it was moved back to the Politics section, with a caveat that the name should be changed.
Later people started getting banned almost on a daily basis, under the flimsiest excuses you could think of. Posts started disappearing.
That was when a lot of people started getting disenchanted with the thread. Calls were made to the mods to address certain issues, which they never did.
Slowly but surely, interest started waning, the discussions lost steam, and the main respondents left NL. It was such a sad ending, to a most promising journey.
I don't know why the mods get rattled by the success of such threads. Again, history appears to be repeating itself. The new thread titled Draft of Oodua Region Constitution was not injurious or harmful to anybody. Just like the Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics thread, did not have any negative impact on anyone. But the mods in their wisdom, did their worst then. And they are still doing it now, without giving any explanations or any reasons to anyone, for their action. But my consolation is that the things which are hidden in secret, are open to the eyes of God. i almost cried when i woke up to see the thread gone, i still posted on it around midnight. seems dem wait make we sleep b4 dem do the evil delete. issokay oo |
