Sports / Stars Return To Training – More Options Available by damickey(m): 10:02am On Aug 07, 2018

Chelsea fans had cause to rejoice on Monday ahead of the new season as the likes of Eden Hazard, N’golo Kante, Olivier Giroud, Gary Cahill, and Michy Batshauyi returned to training.

This is the first time that the players have trained with the club since their exertions in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Chelsea have a new sheriff in town in Maurizio Sarri, and his Sarrismo footballing pattern is taking shape at Stamford Bridge.

Although, they received a dose of reality when they lost to Manchester City in the Community Shield game.

Sarri had some key members absent, and so did Pep Guardiola. The game served to show that the new pattern at Stamford Bridge would need time to perfect.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard and Willian who have been linked with summer exits, appear to be set to remain at the club.

Hazard returned on Monday, but Chelsea first choice goalie Courtois was AWOL heightening speculations of a move to Real Madrid.

The likes of Batshuayi and Giroud will offer Sarri more options in attack and is a welcome development for the Italian tactician.

Chelsea’s midfield workhorse Kante also played a part in training and this was a much-needed return as the game against City exposed some midfield flaws in the team.
Sports / "It Was Difficult To Work With Conte" - Willian by damickey(m): 8:34am On Aug 07, 2018

Willian has admitted that former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was a difficult man to work with. The Italian was dismissed few days into pre-season and replaced by Sarri.

The Brazilian has high hopes for Sarri’s reign at the club but disclosed that there were times he struggled to understand Conte’s decisions.

Willian appeared to not be Conte’s preferred choice as he spent the majority of the 2017/18 season coming on as a substitute.

In a chat with ESPN Brazil, Willian said:

‘I hope he (Sarri) is not like Conte,’

‘No, I’m kidding. For me, Conte was a manager who was very difficult to work with. His philosophy, his way of dealing with things is very complicated.

‘There were a few games, Sometimes we just don’t understand. You’re playing very well, then you get substituted. I do not understand.

‘There were two times when I got substituted and I went straight to the locker room. It was hard to work with him.

‘The important thing now is to talk about Sarri. From what I heard, I am sure he is a great manager, who does a great job with the team. I have high expectations for working with him.’

Willian returned late to pre-season and played under Sarri for the first time in the Community Shield game against Man City.

It was a game that Sarri would hope to forget quickly as the debut ended in a 2 nil loss to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Sports / Chelsea Offers Alvaro Morata Plus €55m For Gonzalo Higuain and Daniele Rugani by damickey(m): 9:59am On Jul 30, 2018

Reports in Italy claim that Chelsea have made a player plus cash offer for Juventus duo Gonzalo Higuain and Daniele Rugani with the player in question being mentioned as Alvaro Morata. Higuain is also the subject of a possible swap deal with AC Milan that includes Leonardo Bonucci, who is desirous of a return to Turin after spending one season with Milan.

According to Sportitalia, the Blues have made an offer of Morata plus cash believed to be around €55 million for the Juve duo. It was previously stated that Chelsea are unwilling to meet Juventus’ demand of €60 million for Higuain and €55 million for Rugani, although they are interested in reinforcing the center forward and center back positions at Stamford Bridge. It is believed that Chelsea feel that the recent offer of Morata plus the aforementioned amount will be enough to prise the duo away from Juventus.

Sports / Real Madrid Rules Out Move For Eden Hazard? by damickey(m): 9:39am On Jul 29, 2018

Reports suggest that Real Madrid have dismissed the signing of Chelsea playmaker and Belgium international Eden Hazard with new coach Julen Lopetegui looking to make Spaniard Isco Alarcon a key man in the side.

It is believed that the complexities involved in the possible deal for Eden Hazard to the Bernabeu thus far have reduced Madrid’s interest in the Belgium international, as the report suggested that the financial outlay have put off the Los Blancos.

Chelsea are demanding a fee in the region of £200 million for their star man and it remains to be seen if the Madrid hierarchy will be willing to meet the valuation of the player as the English transfer window gradually draws to a close.

Meanwhile, this will be a very nice piece of news for Chelsea fans including the club hierarchy as they look to build towards a new era of attack-minded and entertaining football, and will definitely need their best legs to stay put at the club under the new management of Maurizio Sarri

Regardless, it remains to be seen if the Los Blancos will be content with not signing a franchise Galactico ahead of the new season. Therefore, It’s not fully cast in stone that Hazard will be at Chelsea next season.

Sports / Sarri Willing To Make Hazard Captain by damickey(m): 5:26pm On Jul 28, 2018

Reports suggest that Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is considering making Eden Hazard the captain of the Chelsea side in an attempt to convince him to remain at Stamford Bridge and commit his future to the Blues.

Chelsea have informed suitors with Real Madrid at the forefront that the Belgian international and captain will only leave the club if a valuation in the region of £200m is met in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Mirror suggest that Sarri has sprung into action to keep Eden Hazard at Chelsea by offering him the captain’s armband, as he is set to ignore any approach from Real Madrid for his coveted forward man and star player.

However, it notes that a final decision has not been reached as Hazard is a strong contender for the captain’s role alongside Cesc Fabregas and Cesar Azpilicueta. Hazard has two years left on his current deal and has been offered a lucrative extension according to reports.

Sports / Everton To Snub Chelsea Approach For Pickford by damickey(m): 5:05pm On Jul 28, 2018

Chelsea are on the lookout for a quality replacement for Thibaut Courtois should he leave Stamford Bridge this summer, as reports of a move to Real Madrid continue to heighten. The Blues have identified England international and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as a target, but reports suggest that the Merseyside outfit will not listen to any offers for the Englishman.

Marco Silva’s side are keen to hold on to their man as they go about other business after recently signing Richarlison from Watford and selling off Davy Klaassen and Ramiro Funes Mori. The two clubs also appear to have a strained relationship after Chelsea’s previous approaches for the likes of John Stones and recent Ross Barkley.

Chelsea have reportedly made Pickford a priority. although a move will be dependent on if Thibaut Courtois leaves Stamford Bridge for his preferred destination Madrid, in a bid to stay close to his family.

Pickford joined Everton last summer in a £30m move from Sunderland and it will definitely be a tough task for Chelsea to prise him away from Toffees with 4 years still remaining in his contract. The goalie was impressive in the Russia 2018 and his performances appear to have resulted in a rise of his stock.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also been linked with Jack Butland, Kasper Schmeichel, and Gianluigi Donnaruma.

Regardless of the high possibility of Morata’s departure this summer, the Stamford Bridge outfit are not ready to let him go on a cheap and reports from Sky Sports claim that the club want £62m from any potential suitors for Morata, with Milan, believed to be at the forefront.

Milan’s new sporting director Leonardo has begun talks with Chelsea over a possible move for the Spaniard, as he also favors a return to the Serie A. However, the deal might be a difficult proposition for the San Siro outfit as they are currently under scrutiny over their £200m spending spree last summer, and may not have the means to match Chelsea’s valuation of Morata.

Therefore, Morata’s future at Stamford Bridge is heavily dependent on if Chelsea can secure a deal for Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus as the club are eager to sell after spending big on Ronaldo.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham, West Ham Or Tottenham: Who'll Rule London This Season? by damickey(m): 12:13pm On Jul 27, 2018

The 2018/19 Premier League season beckons, and the top sides have been active in the ongoing summer transfer window as they prepare to stake a claim for the notable laurels that will be available for grabs in England. As other sides go about their reinforcement plans, the clubs in London are also gearing up towards an exciting 2018/19 Premier League season that will be characterised by a good number of tough London derbies.

Tottenham Hotspur unexpectedly emerged as the best club from London in the league last season as they finished in the top 4 and will be in the UEFA Champions League next season, while perennial London heavyweights in Chelsea and Arsenal were relegated to the Europa. A power shift appears to be brewing in London with Pochettino’s men leading the charge, and other London clubs might be set to follow suit.

West Ham aka The Hammers have recently hired Manuel Pellegrini and have shown intent to prove their mettle in the upcoming season, as they aim to play exciting and attack-minded football. They’ve also broken their transfer record with the signing’s they’ve made to ensure that this is possible, and they will definitely be aiming to quash the monopoly of Chelsea and Arsenal as the best London clubs in the Premier League, a quest that Spurs appear to be having headway in recently.

The question is; Who’ll rule London in the forthcoming 2018/19 Premier League season? Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea? Unai Emery’s Arsenal? Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur? Or I dare ask. Slavisa Jokanovic’s newly promoted exciting Fulham? Or spoilers Crystal Palace? London derbies abound in the upcoming season!

Funny enough, among the top three London clubs, Spurs’ Pochettino appears to be the one with the most experience in the Premier League. Who would have thought? Chelsea and Arsenal have new men at the helm in the persons of Maurizio Sarri and Unai Emery respectively. However, from a Blues point of view, regardless of Sarri’s antecedent of no winning a silverware in his coaching career, his work of making Napoli a major force in the Serie A with a consistent playing style speaks volumes.

Who’ll rule London? This is a tough question to answer presently, but it’s one that will surely be answered when the season commences. Chelsea have what it takes to regain their position as the best London side in the Premier League in recent times, and hopefully, as the club makes major reinforcements to the squad in the ongoing transfer window, it ends up being the case in the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Sports / Sarri’s Top Targets In Chelsea’s Slow Transfer Dealings by damickey(m): 11:55am On Jul 27, 2018

The summer transfer window has apparently been a slow one for Chelsea considering the arrival of a new manager who’ll be looking to implement a new style of play that totally varies from the typical Chelsea pattern, as well as the fact the club needs to improve on last term’s finish. Not to mention how rival clubs have been strengthening this summer.

The slow transfer moves appeared to be due to the club’s managerial uncertainty. However, Sarri has been unveiled, and the only notable signing with barely 10 days to the community shield game against Manchester City is Jorginho. A move that Chelsea would definitely have lost out on, if not for Sarri’s influence on the player.

No offense to the goalkeeping department, but the arrival of Rob Green is hardly one to be ecstatic about as he was brought in to improve the clubs homegrown quota in the Premier League, and will most likely not get a competitive game like his predecessor Eduardo.

However, there is cause for joy, as the club have also been linked with some decent players recently, with the belief that they’ve all been recommended by Sarri. It might do the Blues faithful some good to start imagining Pepe Reina between the sticks for Chelsea next season as the reports of a move for the veteran goalie appear to be gathering steam.

Daniele Rugani who is a center-back at Juventus is likely to don the Chelsea shirt next season. Reports suggested that the Blues had an initial offer of £35m rejected for the defender as he is valued at £45m. Sarri previously worked with the player while at Empoli and hopefully, Marina Granovskaia and her colleagues get this done as quickly as possible.

Another potential Chelsea signing is Argentina international Gonzalo Higuain. His age leaves more to be desired, but he has proven himself over time and if the manager needs him, the club should get him. It is believed that Chelsea initially baulked at his £53m price tag and now face competition from Milan who are also keen on acquiring the striker. Nevertheless, Chelsea should get this done.

Another target is Miralem Pjanic. Chelsea will face stiff competition for the Bosnian, and will also part with nothing less than £89m for the midfielder. A lot of Chelsea fans are obviously drooling over the possibility if this acquisition, but it’s definitely a tough one to call. Good Luck to Marina and co for this one.

Leon Bailey! The Jamaican forward who plays for Bayern Leverkusen in the Bundesliga is another target that will definitely boost Chelsea’s attacking line. There is also Anthony Martial, although Jose Mourinho has insisted that he would not be sold to a Premier League rival. Martial will definitely cost a fortune regardless of how he has appeared to regress recently under Mourinho. Leon Bailey could come cheaper.

A new name popped up recently. Brazilian attacker Bernard who is now a free agent is being linked with a move to Chelsea. He’s 25, and we wait to see if it is just mere speculation.

Sports / Rob Green Set To Replace Eduardo At Chelsea by damickey(m): 6:40pm On Jul 25, 2018

Reports suggest that Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal for former England international goalkeeper Rob Green.

Th 38-year-old is set to join the Blues on a free transfer and will replace Eduardo who is currently on loan at Vitesse Arnhem as the club’s third-choice goalkeeper.

Green is also unlikely to play any part for the Blues as Eduardo didn’t get a game in his two-season stay at Stamford Bridge. However, his experience and the fact that he is home-grown makes him an attractive option for Chelsea.

The Blues will also continue in their search for a suitable replacement for wantaway first-choice goalie Thibaut Courtois who is close to a move to Real Madrid in a deal worth £35.5m. Likely candidates to replace him are Kasper Schmeichel and AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Sports / Roma To Rival Chelsea For Leon Bailey by damickey(m): 12:33pm On Jul 25, 2018

Chelsea are facing competition from Serie A outfit AS Roma for the acquisition of Bayern Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey. The Serie A side are on the lookout for another wide man after Barcelona stole the deal for former Bordeaux winger Malcolm from under their noses.

It is believed that Willian could be set to stay at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are considering making a bid for Bailey. Meanwhile, Roma have been strongly linked with the 20-year-old attacker, and his father and agent, Craig Butler said:

“Roma were interested in Leon a couple of years ago, but since then I haven’t heard from the Giallorossi.

“Being linked to a great club like Roma is an honor if it were true. I don’t know if Roma are speaking to some intermediary, but they’d have to talk to me.

“It wouldn’t be wise not to listen to Roma, but always respecting our agreement with Bayer Leverkusen, a club that has my respect.”

Regardless of whether Willian stays or goes, the Brazilian is close to 30, and there’ll surely be a need for an exciting winger to spice up Chelsea’s attacks down the right flanks to ease the pressure on Eden Hazard. Chelsea definitely need this signing and should go all out for their man so the side can have quality depth to fall back on.

Sports / Alonso – Jorginho Is Helping Us Adapt To Sarri by damickey(m): 10:28am On Jul 25, 2018

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has disclosed that new signing Jorginho is using his experience under Sarri to help the players adapt to the manager’s style at Stamford Bridge.

Jorginho played for Sarri at Napoli for three seasons and established himself as a key man in Sarri’s system at the Partenopei. He joined Chelsea earlier this month to reunite with the Italian tactician.

“He is used to playing this way, and he is going to be a great help for everybody. He is giving us tips to get used to this way of playing,” Alonso told the club’s website.

“We are working on a new formation, a new style that he is asking of us. He wants us to press high, he wants the team to be together, to have possession of the ball. “

Chelsea will face a big test against Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 5 before making the trip to Huddersfield Town for their Premier League opener six days later.

Sports / Ronaldo Out! Hazard In At Real Madrid? by damickey(m): 11:12am On Jul 15, 2018

This summer transfer window could finally end up as one where Chelsea fans have a lot of their expectations being met, although there is the possibility that the club might lose their talisman in the same window.

Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Juventus some few days back, and before then, reports had always linked Chelsea’s superstar attacker Eden Hazard with a move to the Bernabeu. The Belgium international has apparently not helped matters in terms of his chances of remaining at Chelsea with the impressive performances he’s put in for Belgium in the Russia 2018 World Cup. A development which would surely make suitors believe he is ready for the biggest of challenges.

Real Madrid will be out for a replacement for Ronaldo this summer and three stars in the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Eden Hazard have been suggested as possible replacements for the Portuguese goal-machine at the Bernabeu.

A move for Eden Hazard by the Los Blancos appears very likely at the moment, and the player will definitely not turn down a move to Real Madrid going by how he has been speaking much about the Spanish giants recently. Chelsea’s absence from the UEFA Champions League, a competition that the Belgian is eager to win doesn’t help matters either. To compound it, the heartbreak he suffered from the Belgium team as they missed out on the World Cup final could also spur him on to move onto relatively bigger and better things with Real Madrid if they come calling.

It can be recalled that Kylian Mbappe and Neymar joined Paris St. Germain last summer, and therefore, getting the oil-rich Ligue I giants to part with their priced assets won’t be easy for the Los Blancos, as PSG also have an eye on a triumph in the UCL. Therefore, Real Madrid could be forced to go all out for Hazard who has proven consistently over time that he can cut it at the big stage.

The player has spent many years at Chelsea and is at the peak of his career. It is so obvious that he’ll switch to the Bernabeu if an offer comes. Chelsea fans must be prepared for a possible life without Hazard in the 2018/19 season, as Madrid will be hot on the heels of potential replacements for Ronaldo, and we all know that the Los Blancos hardly take no for an answer. This move looks likely, but Blues faithful will be ecstatic if Hazard decides to remain at Stamford Bridge, regardless of how unlikely it seems at the moment.

Sports / Sarri In! Bye To 3 Defenders At The Back At Chelsea? by damickey(m): 10:44am On Jul 15, 2018

Maurizio Sarri has been appointed to replace Antonio Conte as the new boss at Stamford Bridge. Finally! We are done with that and can now focus on other pressing issues at the club. One salient question from Chelsea’s appointment of Sarri is this. Is this the end of 3 defenders at the back at Chelsea? What does the future hold for the non-typical wing backs in the likes of Victor Moses who thrived under this setup?

There was this myth some time ago that a system of 3 defenders at the back would never flourish in the Premier League. Well, one could easily rewind to the 2016/17 Premier League season and see how that myth was quashed by an Italian tactician named Antonio Conte in his debut season at Chelsea.

The formation ensured that Nigerian star Victor Moses was not deemed surplus to requirements as he owned that the right-wing back position perfectly in the first season under Conte. Conte appeared to have revolutionized English club football as clubs could only attempt to thwart Chelsea with the same formation, However, that was Conte’s preferred formation and results going the way of Chelsea proved this.

Well, it appeared he was found it in his second season. Nonetheless, we’re focused on how Chelsea’s style will pan out under Sarri. Sarri preferred the 4-3-3 formation while at Napoli and his side thrived with it, playing possession-oriented, high pressing and expansive football. That’s what a lot of Chelsea fans have been clamouring for, and hopefully, they’ve gotten the ideal tactician to deploy a system of attractive football with significant end results.

Sarri will definitely continue with the system at Chelsea. His brand of 4-3-3 undergoes different alterations in the course of a game and these will be dependent on if Chelsea have the ball, are initiating an attack, pressing without the ball, or defending. It’s safe to say that 3 at the back is done for under Sarri at Chelsea, and the players who thrived in those unfamiliar roles will have to adapt or get shipped out immediately. Regardless, this is the possible return of 4 at the back at Chelsea, and 3 at the back bids farewell.

Sports / Chelsea Face Competition For Seri As Fulham Join Race by damickey(m): 9:29pm On Jul 06, 2018

Reports from Sky Sports suggest that Chelsea are still interested in Nice star Jean Michael Seri, but will not make a move for the midfielder till the managerial situation at the club is sorted out.

However, newly promoted Premier League side and London club Fulham have made inquiries for Seri who currently has a release clause of £35m that expires on July 15.

Seri reportedly prefers a move to the Premier League this summer, as he has just a year remaining in his contract with Nice. Manchester City have also been keeping tabs on Seri, although their priority remains Napoli’s Jorginho, with talks of his switch to the Etihad reportedly ongoing.

According to the report, Seri fits the box-to-box-midfielder bill at Fulham, as they would want him to compete with Stefan Johansen.

According to reports, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has clashed with some members of the club’s hierarchy on an internal email thread. Chelsea seems to be embroiled in some lack of leadership issues and the provocation was sparked by Chelsea’s first day of pre-season.

Antonio Conte asserted his authority as club boss in the mail thread. It was revealed that a member of Chelsea’s technical staff sent emails to the players who participated in the World Cup to report to the club’s training ground this Saturday and Sunday to undergo fitness tests, but Conte responded by saying he is still the manager and does not want the players back until next Monday.

Conte has been on holiday for the last few weeks in Southern Italy and has been planning a tough pre-season campaign for the players. He is set to return to London this weekend and plans to carry out his first training session next Monday, although that will be dependent on if he hasn’t been sacked and replaced by Maurizio Sarri before then.

Sports / Chelsea Make Enquiry For Kovacic by damickey(m): 1:03pm On Jul 04, 2018

The latest transfer roundup by Gianluca Di Marzio suggests that Chelsea have enquired about the possibility of signing Real Madrid’s promising midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

Chelsea are looking to add a deep-lying midfielder to the center of the park. Numerous speculations have linked the club with a move for Jean Michael Seri, but nothing noteworthy has panned out.

Kovacic is a midfielder who can play anywhere in the midfield positions although he’s more effective playing from a deep position. He possesses decent dribbling ability and can initiate attacks in an instant, alongside possessing good vision as well as the ability to make an impressive number of key passes in the course of a game.

However, Madrid’s response to the enquiry is unknown, although the Bernabeu outfit have shown that they are not interested in letting Kovacic leave. Regardless, he recently claimed that a move away from Real Madrid would be the best for his career.

“I want to play more and the best thing is to leave Madrid”

“I love football and being on the turf, I want the opportunity to be a starter on another team, if I do not play … I’m not happy”.

Sports / Hazard And Co Survive Japan Ko Scare In Russia by damickey(m): 5:34pm On Jul 03, 2018

Chelsea star and Belgium international Eden Hazard alongside his teammates survived a major round of 16 elimination scare in the Russia 2018 World Cup as they came from 2 goals down to beat Japan 3:2 and seal a place on the quarter-finals of the competition, subsequently booking a mouthwatering clash against Brazil.

Hazard, captain of the side expressed joy that he and his teammates didn’t fall short this time, as they avoided a repeat of Euro 2016, where they were booted out of the competition in similar fashion after a shocking 3:1 defeat to Wales.

A similar fate stared them in their faces as Japan raced into a 2 goal lead in the opening stages of the second half, before they rallied back into the game with goals from Vertonghen, Fellaini, and Nacer Chadli who delivered the knockout punch to Japan in the 94th minute of the game.

“We were thinking it was going to be like two years ago against Wales, but we were also thinking, ‘if we can score goals the game is on,'” Hazard said.

“We have players that can change a game, we brought players from the bench who made the difference, so today we are just happy to have won and have gone through to the quarter-finals.”

Belgium will now come up against Brazil in Kazan. Hazard spoke briefly about the expected cracker of a game.

“When it comes to the match on Friday, it is going to be magnificent because playing against Brazil is always amazing as a football player,” said the 27-year-old.

“We are going to rest really well and going to really try to win that match.”

Sports / Gent Eye Move For Chelsea Defender Kenneth Omeruo by damickey(m): 5:26pm On Jul 03, 2018

According to reports, Belgium Jupiler League side Gent are interested in signing Chelsea defender and Nigeria international Kenneth Omeruo this summer.

The defender’s popularity appears to have risen since his impressive display in defence for the Nigeria national team in Russia 2018 before they were knocked out by Argentina. Omeruo started the last two games against Iceland and Argentina, and also put in commanding displays.

The report suggested the confirmation that Gent have already opened talks with the Super Eagles defender over a possible move to the Ghelmaco Area, and made their first approach last month in London in Nigeria’s friendly against England.

The Belgian club are in the market for defensive reinforcements after seeing the likes of Samuel Gigot and Stefan Mitrovic move to Spartak Moscow and Strasbourg respectively in the course of the ongoing summer transfer window

Sports / Barcelona Willing To Offer Three Players To Chelsea In Exchange For Willian by damickey(m): 5:17pm On Jul 03, 2018

Emerging reports indicate that Barcelona are willing to offer as much as three players to Chelsea for Willian as they try to knock down the Blues’ huge asking price for the Brazilian.

Barcelona reportedly switched their attention to Willian after Antoine Griezmann opted to remain with Atletico Madrid ahead of the forthcoming football season.

Willian is believed to be interested in the switch to the Camp Nou but Chelsea are not willing to let him go and have slapped a £70 million price tag on him.

However, Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportive claim that Barcelona have proposed a player plus cash swap deal instead, and are ready to include three players in the deal that could eventually see Willian join the Catalans. The players mentioned are also not in Ernesto Valverde’s first team plans for next season’s campaign. The players believed to have have been mentioned Andre Gomes, Paulinho, or Rafinha.

Sports / Chelsea Reject £50m Offer From Barcelona For Willian by damickey(m): 7:25am On Jun 30, 2018

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea FC have rejected a £50m offer from Barcelona for Brazilian attacker Willian. The report stated that the player’s representatives have been in Barcelona and also held talks with the Blaugrana chiefs.

However, Chelsea are not interested in letting go of the Brazil international. Barcelona won the domestic double last season but manager Ernesto Valverde is believed not to be content with the squad’s depth and attacking flair, a situation which was obvious in the side’s defeat to Roma in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Barcelona reportedly see Willian as a player that can help improve their attack and link up perfectly with fellow countryman Philippe Coutinho, following Andres Iniesta’s departure.

Willian is also a subject of interest from Manchester United as they made attempts to sign him in January, although the move was rejected by Chelsea as Willian was on an impressive run of form at the time.

He displayed inconsistency towards the end of the season. Regardless, Chelsea are not ready to let him leave Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, Chelsea FC are currently in talks to sign Aleksandr Golovin.

Sports / Mikel Obi – Why I Rejected Man United For Chelsea by damickey(m): 1:37pm On Jun 27, 2018

John Obi Mikel has revealed that he rejected a move to Manchester United and opted for Chelsea because the London club were prepared to sign three more Nigerian players.

Mikel was 18 at the time and playing for Norwegian club Lyn Oslo when he was filmed accepting a Man United shIrt from club representative Jim Ryan with the number 21 in 2005. The Nigerian signed for United but stated his desire to play for Chelsea a month later.

According to Man United manager Carlos Queiroz, Chelsea had kidnapped Mikel while the director of Lyn Oslo said Mikel was pushed into a Chelsea move. Chelsea finally settleD the matter with payments of £12 million to Man United and £4 million to Lyn in 2006. Mikel has finally revealed what happened at the time.

“My Dad wasn’t too pleased about what happened,” Mikel said in a chat with the Players’ Tribune. “He wanted me to go to Manchester United because he loved Alex Ferguson. Back home in Nigeria, a lot of people were saying I should go to United because of how well they work with young players, whereas Chelsea just bought superstars.

I had all these people on both sides fighting over me. Agents, managers, strangers, guys handing me papers. I had Sir Alex Ferguson calling me on the phone on one side. And I had Roman Abramovich on the other side, putting me up in London, hiding me somewhere where only a few people knew where I was. It was really confusing, and I was a kid, you know?

“After a while, someone from FIFA gave me a phone call. They said, ‘Listen, we know you’re young and you have these two clubs fighting over you. We can’t decide for you. You can only go where you want. You have to tell us.’

“I thought about it for a long time. It was the biggest decision of my life. You know what made my mind up? Chelsea had signed three other players from Nigeria along with me. They were staying with me at the house in London to keep me company. These guys … their lives depended on the decision I was making. If I went to United, they were gone. If I went to Chelsea, they were going to have a career. No matter how long it lasted, that was important to me. Just to give them a chance, you know?

“I chose Chelsea, and four lives changed that day.”
