A 40-year-old man, Mr. Maxwell Madu,
has told the Agege Grade 'A' Customary
Court that if his wife, Grace Oguche, 24,
divorces him, she may die.
Madu said on Monday that his wife had
taken an oath of kolanut and water with
him in her village. He explained that the
oath demanded total loyalty to him.
He added that if the woman defaulted,
she might lose her life.
He told the court that Oguche took the
oath in the presence of her family
members in the village.
He said, "I did not know that my wife was
having an extra-marital affair, and she
was already pregnant for her boyfriend
although, she had a miscarriage.
"She cheated even though she had
taken an oath that she would never
leave me. She took the oath in the
presence of her people because she had
run away from me in the past.
"She had gone to the village to find a
way to break the oath, but they told her
it could not be broken except I was
present.
"She is playing with her life."
Oguche had earlier pleaded with the
court to dissolve her union with her
husband, because he could no longer
perform in bed.
She added that Madu had failed in his
responsibilities as a man in terms of
providing for the home and their six-
year-old son since he lost his job two
years back.
Oguche, on Monday, insisted on ending
the marriage since she was no longer
interested in her husband who could no
longer meet her sexual needs.
She claimed that Madu could not
impregnate a woman because they had
tried a couple of times, but to no avail.
Oguche also requested custody of her
male child.
She said, "Ever since my husband lost
his job, I take care of the responsibilities
in the home alone, and he does not
appreciate my efforts.
"He also does not perform well in bed. I
cannot continue in this marriage and I do
not want to leave my son with him."
Madu, however, said his wife was never
satisfied whenever they had sex, adding
that he had begun taking medication to
make him more effective.
He also stressed that he did not want
their son, Bright, to be in his mother's
custody for fear of being neglected.
He said, "My son is the reason I did not
send her packing when her boyfriend
impregnated her. I do not want her to
take the child because she would not
take care of him.
"Even she warned me never to leave my
child with her."

Man jailed 45 years for stealing Aregbesola's phone

For stealing a N50,000 Sony Ericsson phone belonging to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, a 31-year-old Kelvin Ighodalo has been sentenced to 45-year imprisonment by an Osogbo High Court.

Ighodalo stole the phone from the pocket of Aregbesola on November 27, 2010, when the governor was being inaugurated at Government Technical College, Osogbo.

Justice Oyejide Falola, who heard the case, found Ighodalo guilty on six counts, which included conspiracy, stealing and fraud.

He was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment for the first three counts and five years for each of the last three which included impersonation, obtaining property by falsehood and collusion.

Falola, who ruled that Ighodalo deserved the jail term, held that the convict used the phone to obtain N500, 000 from the Owa of Ilesa, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, while he obtained N200, 000 from Mr Shengen Rahman, an associate of the governor.

The jail term, which Falola pronounced will run concurrently, means that Ighodalo will spend the next 10 years behind bars.

Assistant principal state counsel, Mr Biodun Badiora, told the court that the convict had served six-year imprisonment in Ikoyi prison custody in connection with a murder case in 2005.

FG scraps UTME, NECO, NAPEP, others.

Indications emerged last night that the Federal Government may have resolved to scrap some of its agencies in line with the recommendations­ of the Steve Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the Rationalization­ and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies following the completion of study of its White Paper Committee report. Among those scrapped are Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UMTE), National Examination Council (NECO), Public Complaints Commission, National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) and the Fiscal Mobilization and Allocation Commission among others.
The Oronsaye committee had recommended the abolition of 38 agencies, the merger of 52 and the reversion of 14 to departments in the ministries from which they were carved out, a move the committee argued would save the government more than N862 billion between 2012 and 2015 should its proposal be adopted. A reliable government source confirmed that President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo and selected senior aides of
the president met twice and eventually took decisions, which included the scrapping of some agencies and merging
of others.
Another source revealed that the with the scrapping of the UTME, individual universities in the country would conduct their own admission exami
nations and admit students while the Joint Matriculation and Examination Board will set and ensure compliance to standards as it acts as the clearing house. The source said JAMB would be modeled along the line of Universities and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS), the central organization through which applications are processed for entry to higher education in the United Kingdom.
According to the source, "individual university will do their own examination and admission. If you want to apply to a university, you do so but in order not to have a situation where one person gets multiple admission, JAMB acts as a clearing house to free up spaces. All the universities are free now to admit students." Even though details were still being worked out, it was learnt that government's decision, was informed by the need to promote merit in admission into the nation's universities because "the idea is to ensure that the best students go to the best universities."
The source further disclosed that the president had also approved that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) is now expected to take over the functions and vast infrastructure of NECO, which now ceases to exist. The sources confirmed that WAEC would now conduct two external examinations in a year, January and November. The Public Complaints Commission is to be merged with the Human Rights Commission, just as NAPEP would also be scrapped and replaced National Agency for Job Creation and Empowerment.
The Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation­ made far-reaching recommendations­ , which, it explained, were aimed at helping the government to effect a drastic reduction in the size of its bloated bureaucracy, eliminating duplication of functions and bringing down the cost of governance. The committee submitted its report to the president in April last year.

Billyonaire: He should shut the heck up and do his job, what is he a governor for? Why is he praising himself as if the N127m is his personal funds.
