HealthHow To Prevent The Spread Of Meningitis- Dammyinforms by DammyInforms(op): 11:36am On Apr 09, 2017
Like a joke, the outbreak of Meningitis started in Northern Nigeria and most of us did not pay attention. We thought it was just one of those usual diseases which will pass away within some days. To the greatest surprise of everyone, including the govt, 438 deaths have been recorded across Nigeria from Meningitis, according to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

Hence, there is a need for all govt officials, especially of Health ministry workers, to take urgent steps in curtailing the further spread of this disease.

In my little contribution, I have compiled a list of simple tips on how to prevent the spread of this pandemic disease:

1. Get antibiotics. If someone with a meningitis infection has Neisseria meningitides (also called meningococcal
meningitis), it’s standard procedure for anyone who has been in close contact with the person to receive
antibiotics.

2. Practice “respiratory etiquette.” People with
meningitis can lower the risk of spreading the disease by keeping a safe distance when talking and by covering their mouths when coughing, sneezing, and laughing.

3. Use your own fork. Don’t share utensils, plates, cups, towels, tissues, water bottles, cigarettes, lipstick, or anything that goes in the mouth with someone who’s infected with meningitis. Also, keep in mind that meningitis can spread through the stool, so take care
to wash your hands thoroughly when changing an infected baby's diaper.

4. Take a break from kissing. It may seem like second nature to give your child or spouse kisses throughout the day, but it’s better to avoid kissing until your loved
one has fully recovered.

BusinessEntrepreneurial Tips To Help You Become Productive by DammyInforms(op): 10:20am On May 16, 2016
Entrepreneurs can be one of the most frustrated sets of individuals! You want to know why? This is because it can be very difficult excelling as an entrepreneur considering the peculiar challenges that entrepreneurs encounter. Entrepreneurs who do not learn how to cope with peculiar challenges such as absence of regulatory mechanism, poor internet connection, infrastructural deficits may end up becoming unproductive and eventually frustrated. In this post, you will learn about tips you need to know in order to more productive as an entrepreneur.

Constantly Write Down Your Goals – Big or Small: As simple as this may sound, there are many entrepreneurs who go about their daily activities without having goals for the day. They believe in the principle of “do it as it comes”, or “anything goes”. The fact remains that such attitude towards work would never lead to efficiency and productivity because such entrepreneurs do not have a guide or anything to measure their level of success or accomplishment at the end of each day. Setting goals as an entrepreneur helps you to stay focused in the course of carrying out activities, whether daily, weekly or monthly. Also, setting goals helps you to measure your level of success as an entrepreneur.

Make Plans Ahead of Time:
This point basically underscores the previous point on writing down your set goals. Multitasking leaves us forgetting a lot of things we are supposed to do hence, it’s advisable to always take notes as you go along. To overcome the challenge of being under undue pressure and missing out important details, it is best you meticulously plan your tasks for the year, breaking them down into monthly, weekly, and daily activities. With this, you have a structured and organized plan on the activities you have to carry out on daily basis.

Leverage on Available Resources: To achieve some goals you just have to tap into the opportunities presented by others. Leveraging on other people’s accomplishment provides a cheaper and faster way of getting things done. You pay little or nothing to leverage on other people’s expertise; they could be friends, relatives or just acquaintances. With the avalanche of operational softwares at our disposal, there are so many free applications entrepreneurs can introduce to their businesses that will aid effective and efficient execution of tasks and activities.

Learn to Cut Cost:
As much as every entrepreneur has the dream of ‘starting big’, you need to put that on the back burner and actively come up with plans on how to bootstrap. At times, the first few years of setting up your business can be very stormy and to forge ahead during this period, you must reduce your cost. For instance, it would be illogical for a fledgling entrepreneur to budget a very huge chunk on marketing and advertising.

Delegate and Outsource Tasks – You Can’t Be A One Man Army: To be a productive or more productive entrepreneur, you must learn how to delegate tasks to other members of the team. The fact is you cannot carry out all the activities that need to be done on your own. You can reserve only core tasks that require your utmost attention for yourself. Delegating tasks helps you to concentrate on the few most important tasks you have allotted for yourself and provides you with ample time to concentrate on coming up with innovative ideas to move your business forward. In a case when you can’t find any member of the team to deliver on the task, then you can outsource such tasks to experts. There are a thousand and one freelancers both online and offline who charge very little for helping you get some tasks done within a short time.

Take Breaks: Working non-stop may be the best way to grow your business as an entrepreneur, but on the flipside, it could also be counterproductive. Research has proven beyond doubt that taking intermittent breaks from work helps re-energize the body and gives you a fresh outlook on things.

Education7 Tips For Passing POST-UTME Of Your Choice University by DammyInforms(op): 3:36pm On May 05, 2016
The POST-UTME, as it is popularly called, is a hard nut that every admission seeker must break if he or she is really serious about gaining that desired admission. Almost all universities in Nigeria now conduct POST-UTME in selecting students to be admitted. And this is where lots of candidates lose their chances of gaining admission despite working tooth and nail to scale through UTME. In this post, I will be sharing with you seven tested tips towards passing the POST-UTME of your choice university.

* Get past questions

This is the number secret to pass the post-UTME entrance exam of any university in Nigeria. First thing is for you to closely study the institution‟s past questions and if possible the past questions of other institutions. Majority of universities in the country repeat questions; they do not have new questions any more. All they do is to tweak their questions. Also, when you study past post-utme questions, they expose you to the university‟s patterns of questions. For instance, you will know the amount of questions the university sets for each subject. At times, some universities do not divide the question by subjects.

*Speak with students of the institutions

The main reason you need to speak with students of the choice university is to learn from their experiences and be informed about any latest information regarding the university‟s entrance examination and admission process. The university‟s undergraduates are insiders who are exposed to things and „deeper‟ things going on in the university which you as an outsider may not know.

* Be abreast with current affairs

I remember that during my POST-UTME entrance exam into Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko, I was asked the name of the then minister of finance. I was able to address the question and other similar questions based on my knowledge of current affairs, not based on what I read or I was taught in class. From my study of different POST-UTME past questions of different universities, I observed that current affairs was common in almost all of them. So if you truly want to pass the POST-UTME entrance exam of your choice university, it is necessary for you to be abreast with current affairs. Some universities call it “General knowledge Questions”.

*Be Vast

Vastness in knowledge is also needed in this case. Do not be surprised when you come across questions that in no way relate to your course of study when you sit for your entrance exam. In fact, expect such questions. The only panacea to this, is for you to be vast in knowledge. I remember my experience during my first ever post-utme entrance exam at University of Lagos. As a student applying for mass communication, I had prepared for the subjects I sat for during my UTME. Only to be confronted with other subjects on the day of the entrance exam. In order not to become a victim of such, it is advisable for you to be vast in knowledge while preparing for the entrance exam.

* Attend tutorials

It is always best to attend POST-UTME tutorials held inside or within the university vicinity. This is because most tutors of such tutorials have better information and gist on the exam. This will also help you to familiar yourself with other candidates like yourself. However, put at the back of your mind that you are attending the tutorial for majorly knowledge sake, not to get boyfriends or girlfriends. That period is not for that; you can do all that much later after your exams.

* Be computer literate

Gone are those days when universities used paper and pencil for their entrance exam. Most universities in the country, at least 70%, now conduct computer-based test for prospective students. It may sound very absurd to say that a number of POST-UTME candidates are computer illiterate or computer semi-illiterate. But I can categorically say that it is the truth. Lots of candidates waste so much time on trying to operate the computer system until their allocated time elapses, answering
very few questions. So it is not too late for you to learn how to operate the computer effectively before your POST-UTME entrance exam.

* Make necessary arrangements

One major mistake often made by majority of POST-UTME candidates is that they often forget to make necessary arrangements before they leave their homes for the exam. This point is very apt especially to candidates who have to travel from one state to another for their entrance exam. As a POST-UTME applicant, you should have made arrangement for accommodation before leaving for the exam. This would help to put you in a relaxed mood before the exam.

EducationThe Power Of Goal Setting In Achieving Academic Excellence by DammyInforms(op):
In 2011 when I sat for my second and last JAMB, I was very agitated inside me, having lost admission in 2010 owing to my carelessness despite scoring 268 in JAMB. Fired by this anger in me, I saw the need to settle the admission struggle in my life once and for all. I felt the desperation within me. Still fired by this anger, I sat myself down and clearly stated the goals I needed to achieve in my academics that year.

That year I passed JAMB very well and was offered admission on the same day to study mass communication in two tertiary institutions in the country.

From my story above I will highlight how setting goals can help you achieve academic excellence.

1. Setting goals helps you to be focused

Setting good academic goals helps you to be focused on achieving those goals. It makes you restless until you achieve those goals. It mounts a positive pressure on you. After I set my goals on what I wanted in my academics for that year 2011, I discovered that I became more focused towards achieving those goals. This principle is applicable to all exams.

2. Setting academic goals helps you to work more

Once I had my goals written down on black and white, I observed that it really empowered me to work harder by studying more for both Jamb and Post-UTME. In my eBook titled "Ultimate Admission Guide to into any Nigerian university" which will be released online by next week I discussed why you need to always state your goals out and put them in writing. As an undergraduate, you start with setting goals of the grades you want in every course you are taking for each semester.

3. Goal setting helps you to achieve dreams within specific time frame

One of the kernels of goal setting is, it is time bound. After you have sat down to set the goals you want in your academics, you should as well set a time frame to achieve those things. In the course of seeking admission in 2011, I gave myself time frame to achieve my academic goals and that helped me to achieve them within the specified time.

So by now I believe you will set out time to set your academic goals; stating how you want to achieve them.

EducationTips For Studying For Long Hours (my Experience) by DammyInforms(op): 10:26am On Feb 01, 2016
Good morning, I just felt the need to share this with you. I don't know why though, but I believe it will be of great help to someone. Overtime, I have learnt some simple tips based on my experiences whenever I'm studying.

When I was schooling at AAUA, I found reading for long hours very easy and pleasurable. But I discovered that majority of my colleagues found reading boring and strenuous. They studied as a matter of necessity only when exams were around the corner.

These were the simple tips that helped my study life;

1. I read intermittently

By this, I mean that I read bit by bit, not allowing my work to pile up. I ensured that I read piecemeal. I could study for two hours and return to studying thirty minutes after.

2. I drank water whenever studying

The truth is I don't know the scientific justification for this, but I observed that I get renewed whenever I drank water while studying. You can also try it today.

3. I changed reading position whenever I was tired

I could read for an hour while standing or laying down. It all depended on the position that pleased at the time.

4. I tried to stay focused whenever I study

At a point I had to train myself to study and remain focused even in a noisy environment. You can build your mind to always stay focused whenever you are studying.

5. I took lots of notes when studying

I discovered that there was a connection between my mind and whatever I wrote down. I tend to remember very fast anything I write down. Ensure you try this today.

Happy new month

Education7 Secrets Of Scoring 280 And Above In JAMB by DammyInforms(op): 6:40am On Jan 26, 2016
It baffles me a lot whenever I meet with Jambites who struggle to score barely 200 in JAMB. I begin to ask myself, “What is so difficult about JAMB that lots of students struggle with it?” From my findings, I discovered that lots of students are unknowledgeable about how to pass JAMB and pass it very well. It is not as difficult as most students think. As a result of this, I decided to come up with this write-up which I titled “7 Secrets of getting 280 and above in JAMB.” The seven secrets are discussed below;

1. Set a Target
Personally, I believe that there is nothing impossible that one cannot achieve. In scoring 280 and above in UTME exam, the first step is for you to believe you can achieve and set a target on the score you want to have in the end of the day. Overtime, I have observed that most students do not have a specific score they want to have in the JAMB. All they do is just to read without a specific target. However, I always encourage Jambites to set very high score as their target. Setting a target will help you to be focused on what you want to achieve in the exam.

2. Study smart
It is not all about studying hard; it is about studying smart. Kindly get the JAMB syllabus and past questions, studying closing to identify the core topics JAMB often repeat year in year out. If you can study those topics very well, I think the job is half way done. Also, understand your study pattern and not emulate friends. I used to have friends who loved drinking lots of water whenever they were studying. Hence, it is left for you to learn to study smart in preparing for the exam.

3. Practice
I remember practicing my JAMB past questions up to a point where I knew almost all the answers off hand. I had different forms of past questions for every of my subjects. What I am trying to point out is it is very important for you to practice very closely especially the JAMB past question because it will expose you to the patterns of questions set by JAMB. Also it has been proven over time that JAMB repeats questions from previous years. You can be fortunate to come across such questions during your exam.

4. Do not cheat
The prevalent thing among Jambites is relying on different forms of examination malpractices to score very high in the exam. But unfortunately for them, they end up having very low scores despite the exam malpractices. If you want to indeed score 280 and above in JAMB and eventually gain the much-desired admission, stay away from exam malpractices before, during and after the exam. Funny enough, majority of courses taken by year-one students are topics selected from JAMB syllabus. So if you fail to study now, if you still encounter those topics even after you gained admission through the back door.

5. Rest
I know this point may seem unnecessary to you, but it is of great importance if you truly want to perform very well in your UTME exam. The problem most studious students do have is their inability to set out time to have some rest. The human brain is often stressed a lot by constant study. Hence, it is advisably for you to always take intermittent rest. It looks so funny to me whenever I meet students who study all night a day to their JAMB exam. To me, such study places sheer pressure on them. A day to your JAMB exam is for you to take out time to rest and ruminate on what you have studied over time.

6. Gist with Friends
The popular saying that ‘no man is an Island’ is applicable in this situation. As a jambites do not isolate yourself. Make friends with fellow Jambites and exchange ideas with them because you can never know everything on your own. However, do not make friends with the dullards who would draw you back all in the name of making friends; make friends with those you will learn a great deal from. I remember when I was preparing for JAMB in 2011, I encountered a group of guys at the public library where I used to study. These guys were very intelligent and I learnt a lot from them. Aside learning from friends, making good friends helps you to be abreast with any latest rumour or news about the exam. I know a lot of people who could have performed very well in JAMB if they had been exposed to timely information.

7. God factor
The God-factor can never be ruled out. In everything you do, put God first. The bare truth is you need God’s direction when preparing to score 280 and above in JAMB. As a matter of fact, such feat is attainable even without any ‘special centre’ during the exam. Personally, I do not support or encourage students to enrol for ‘special centre’ for exams; I always believe in merit.
