Politics / 2019 Elections: Any Room For Youths To Emerge As Party Flag-bearers? by DaMsOn007(m): 6:33pm On Aug 20, 2018
2019 elections: Any room for youths to emerge as party flag-bearers?

IN May 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari signed the “Not Too Young To Run” bill into law which provided a legal framework for a wider spectrum of young Nigerian to run for political offices.

Great jubilation trailed that Executive action, because there had been a growing perception citizens at home and diaspora that the “old dogs” of Nigerian politics have nothing more to offer towards development of the masses. According to some analysts, the much-awaited time for younger bloods and fresher hands to assume political leadership in 2019 to inject new ideas into the system had come. Like wonders that last in the human mind only nine days, the euphoria quickly fizzled out. Three months down the line, the challenging reality of playing party politics in order to emerge as flagbearers in the 2019 general elections has dawned on many young aspirants. With party primaries expected to commence in the week, many young aspirants are faced with the challenges of high cost of nomination forms, lack of political mentorship, non-inclusion in party hierarchies, lack of functional party websites for information flow among others barriers which make political watchers ask “is there really room for youths to emerge as party flagbearers in 2019 general elections?” It is against this background that Youngstars Development Initiative (YDI) with support from the Ford Foundation organised a one-day stakeholders’ forum in Abuja for political parties and about 159 youth aspirants from the North central geopolitical zone to discuss and proffer solution to those challenges with a view to increasing youth emergence in the 2019 general elections and beyond. The Executive Director of YDI, Kingsley Bangwell, said the forum was a follow up to an online survey conducted by his organisation to ascertain what the key barriers to youth emergence as party flagbearers in 2019 elections were. He revealed that a focused group discussion with over a 100 young aspirants in the northern parts of the country was also staged by YDI to get to the heart of these issues. “So, we decided to bring the parties and aspirants together to discuss these issues and reach some sort of consensus on the way forward. “In the course of our deliberations, we stressed the importance of youth political participation in Nigeria and reaffirmed our belief in inclusive governance. “We underscored the strategic importance of enhancing and increasing the emergence of youth in 2019 general elections and look forward to the support of the entire country,” he said. Nomination fees The Senate on March 30, passed the Electoral Act No 6 2010 (Amendment) Bill 2017 and one of the things it will do when signed into law, is abolish arbitrary fees for nomination forms fixed by political parties. Before now, the parties demanded high fees for nomination forms from aspirants, fixing a price as it deemed fit even to the embarrassment of President Muhammadu Buhari, who in the build up to the 2015 election that he won, claimed he borrowed money to pay for his APC nomination form which cost N27 million at the time. The question that begs for an answer, in the context of youth emergence as party flagbearers in 2019, is “how many young Nigerians can afford N27m in order to stand a chance of running for the highest political office in the land?” All hope is not lost as six political parties during the stakeholders’ Forum pledged to give incentives to young Nigerians between 18 years and 35 years who are aspiring for different elective offices in the 2019 general elections. The parties include Accord Party (AP), Action Alliance (AA), Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Better Nigeria Progressive Party (BNPP), Democratic People’s Party (DPP) and the National Democratic Congress Party (NDCP). They made the pledge in a joint statement issued at the end of the meeting. Among the signatories to the statement are the National Chairmen of AP, ACPN and BNPP, Lawal Nalado, Gani Galadima and Nnaji Godswill, respectively. Others are Adama Adama, Harirat Yakubu and Anas Hamisu Lawal, representing the young aspirants. The six political parties said in their bid to encourage inclusion of more young Nigerians in political leadership, they had decided to reduce cost of purchase of their forms. They also urged all political parties to give free tickets to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and come up with policies and initiatives to increase their emergence as flag bearers in 2019 and beyond. The statement reads: “We are committed in supporting young aspirants and have agreed to reduce the cost of purchasing party interest and nomination forms, and will leverage on other source of raising funds and put in place measures to control , to increase youth aspirants and candidates participation in general elections. “Political Parties should give free party tickets to the Persons with Disabilities and create and implement Persons with Disabilities (PWDS) friendly policies to increase their emergence in 2019 general election and beyond.” Youth inclusion and Mentorship The stakeholders also called for more positions for Nigerian youths in leadership composition and decision making process of the political parties to ensure their inclusion in party hierarchies. “It is recommended that Political Parties should reserve quotas and have certain age range for positions within parties for youth to contest certain positions, as a party policy to increase youth participation in general elections,” they said. Gaps in political sensitisation The Forum said that the gaps observed in voter education and political sensitisation of Nigerian youths and people living with disabilities especially in the rural parts of the country would be bridged through grassroots initiatives in collaboration with civil society organisations to reach a wider range of young people. “On the challenge of low voters’ education and political sensitization, we understood that there is a gap in the sensitization of the public and youth including persons with disability and have agreed to adopt grassroots initiatives and collaborate with Civil Society organizations to reach a wider range of young people. We are determined to create and implement several initiatives and leverage on new media like social media, political jingles. We have also agreed that political messages should be translated into local dialects. “The young aspirants and political parties have agreed that political parties should have functional websites that are user friendly and mobile apps for e-registration and easier access to Party information .We are committed to increasing membership and will adopt having a functional members support services at party ward offices to increase membership registration within political parties. “We reiterate our commitment to implementing the solutions proffered at this forum and will continue engagements with different stakeholders to increase youth emergence in the 2019 general elections and beyond.” As noble as these resolutions appear, some analysts expressed fears that they were Utopian. An Abuja-based public affairs analyst, Ken Nwuka, said six out of 91 registered political parties in the country was not enough to ensure emergence of many a youth party flagbearers in 2019. “More so, none of the six political parties possessed the kind of appeal, membership, national spread, general acceptability and goodwill the PDP and the APC bear which can make desired impact in the political landscape,” he added.

Tiwa Savage opens up on relationship with Wizkid

Mavin queen, Tiwa Savage has finally reacted to rumours of an intimate relationship between her and music star, Wizkid.

Tiwa and Wizkid were spotted a few months ago in several pictures together.

The two even performed a few shows together and this led many speculating that perhaps there was something more between them.

However, speaking on SoundCity radio 98.5, at the weekend, Tiwa clarified that the relationship between them was not romantic in any way.

She said she had ignored all the rumours, and that there was no pressure on her to respond.

She said, “I heard all sorts of stories about Wizkid and I, but I chose to ignore them.

“At a point, people said I was dating Humblesmith; later they mentioned another (artiste?).

“How long will I continue to debunk these rumours.

“I have been in the music industry for quite a while and I have grown a thick skin, so certain rumours or insinuations don’t get to me again.”

Why I Slapped My Father — Actor Femi Adebayo

Craziest thing I’ve done was slapping my dad, says Femi Adebayo

Popular Actor, Femi Adebayo, has explained that being an actor has made him do some terrible things such as slapping his father, Adebayo Salami, aka Oga Bello.

While speaking with Sunday Scoop, he said as an actor, one must be ready to do anything to play unbelievable roles. He stated, “I have been presented with scripts where I had to slap my father on set and I must do it as an actor. He has slapped me on set too countless times.

The moment we are acting, I don’t see him as my father anymore; I see him as a colleague and we need to interpret our roles very well. He trained me and he is my boss in the industry. He has taught me not to fear whenever I come across a bigger actor or someone like him on set. But the moment the director says stop, I prostrate to him and apologise.”

NBC Slams N.1m Fine On Radio Station …For Playing Falz’s Song

A radio station in Jos has found itself in trouble with The National Broadcasing Corporation (NBC) as the station has been fined N100,000 for playing Falz’s song “This is Nigeria”.
It was gathered that the NBC wrote a letter to the radio station informing them that Falz’s song titled “This is Nigeria” is “laced with Vulgar Lyrics” and for playing the song, they will be sanctioned.
The lyrics they pointed out that they had a problem with is the part that goes: “This is Nigeria, Look how we living now, everybody be criminal”.
Also the commission fined the station for playing Olamide’s song titled, ‘See Mary, See Jesus”. The letter says – Mary and Jesus are regarded as sacred by the Christian faith and as such contravenes section 4.3.1.
The station was also cautioned for playing Wande Coal’s ‘Iskaba’ with the lyrics “Girl You Dey Make Me Kolo, shaking the ass like Kolo” which NBC says is Vulgar.
NBC has asked the station to pay N100,000 within two weeks else they will be made to face stiffer sanctions.

Celebrities / 10 Ways To Slide Into A Babe’s DM Like A Pro by DaMsOn007(m): 4:39am On Aug 17, 2018
10 ways to slide into a babe’s DM like a pro

If you want to slide into someone’s DM and achieve success in there like Banky did in Adesua Etomi’s, there are rules to follow.

We are already so deep in the use of social media that everyone already knows and understands what it means to slide into someone’s DM.

And if you are just playing catch-up on the pop slang, sliding into someone’s DM is a fancy word that describes the act of starting a private conversation with someone on social media platforms, as opposed to bantering on the timeline where other users can see your convo.

If you want to slide into someone’s DM and achieve success in there like Banky did in Adesua Etomi’s, there are rules to follow.

With these 10 rules, you’re guaranteed to get almost every babe’s attention.

1. Your first line
Make sure your icebreaker is dope. Certain greetings like “Hi baby”, “Good morning my angel” “Hi love” might never get responded to.

Why? The lady probably doesn’t even know you like that yet. Don’t be quick to throw words of endearment at her.

2. No wack handles/names

If your name, ID or handle is anything as ridiculous as the following “@emekatoomuchmoney @Taiwobillionaire @Jiderunningthings @TheDonOfLagos @DonMoney @Sexyforthegirls @JoeSexyAss @Mikesixpacks,” Chidera says you won’t make it with her, and several ladies will agree with her on this one.

3. The content of your page
“Also, avoid me if the first picture I’ll see on your page is a shirtless six packs (I’ll drool but that’s it… nothing personal☺) or a stack of money or goldchains.”

Many ladies will agree with Chidera on this one, too.

4. Go straight to the point

Don’t beat about the bush. Random messages from a guy already arouse suspicions in these ladies, anyway. So it is better to not waste her time and yours.

A recommended way to be direct is this “Hi, my name is Obinna Kunle Musa. Can I know you better?”

Ladies love it when you are direct with your intentions
5. Tribes don’t matter
Most people don’t give two hoots about tribe and religion. So proceed based on that belief except there are things in her posts or bio to suggest otherwise.

Politics / PDP Senators Ask Court To Stop Saraki’s Impeachment by DaMsOn007(m): 4:49am On Aug 16, 2018
PDP Senators Ask Court To Stop Saraki’s Impeachment

Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday prayed an Abuja Federal High Court to restrain the federal government from aiding and abetting the forceful removal or impeachment of Senate President Bukola Saraki from office. In a motion on notice filed by their council, Mahmoud Magaji (SAN), the plaintiffs are praying for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants from unlawfully removing the Saraki as Senate president pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. The plaintiffs, Senator Rafiu Adebayo (Kwara South) and Senator Isa Misau (Bauchi Central), are also praying the court for an order directing the parties in the suit to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. The case, with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/872/2018, was brought pursuant to Order 26 Rules 1, 2, and 7(1) of Federal High Court (Civil Proceedure) Rules 2009, and Section 6(6)(cool(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Joined as defendants in the suit are the Senate, the Senate president, deputy Senate president, Senator Ahmed Lawal (Senate leader), Senator Bala Ibn Nallah (deputy Senate leader), Senator Emma Bwacha (deputy minority leader), clerk of the Senate, deputy clerk of the Senate, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Department of State Service (DSS). They are also seeking for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the AGF and IGP from unlawfully interfering with the lawful legislative duties of Saraki as Senate president until the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. The plaintiffs also want an “order of interlocutory injunction restraining the 10th to 11th defendants from harassing, hounding intimidating, arresting or detaining the 2nd defendant in respect of the lawful exercise of his duties pursuant to Section 50(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as attended), until the hearing and determination of the substantive suit”. In the substantive suit brought by way of originating summons, the plaintiffs are praying the court to determine whether in view of the provisions of Section 50 (1)(a) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution, the Senate president who defected to another party as a result of division in his former party can be made to vacate his office other than in accordance with the provisions of Section 50 (2) of the Constitution. Other question raised by the plaintiffs for the court to determine include: “Whether by a combined reading of Section 50(1)(a) and (2) of the Constitution and Order 3 Rule 8 of the Senate Standing Orders, 2015 (as amended), the President of the Senate can be compelled to vacate his office on the ground that he is not a member of the party with majority of senators in the Senate? “Whether by a combined reading of Section 50(2)(a) of the Constitution and Order 3, Rule 8 of the Senate Standing Orders, 2015 (as amended) the President of the Senate can be said to have vacated his office by virtue of Section 50(2)(a) of the Constitution when he has not ceased to be a member of the Senate? “Whether the President of the Senate can be said to have vacated his office as President at the Senate by virtue of Section 50(2)(b) of the Constitution when the 8th Senate of which he is the President has not been dissolved?” Upon the determination of these questions, the plaintiffs are seeking a declaration of the court that the President of the Senate cannot be made to vacate his office other than in accordance with the provisions of Section 50(2) of the Constitution. Other reliefs sought for include: “A declaration that Saraki cannot be compelled to vacate his office on the ground that he is not a member of the party with majority of Senators in the Senate. “A declaration that cannot be said to have vacated his office by virtue of Section 50(2)(a) of the Constitution when he has not ceased to be a member of the Senate. “A declaration that the President of the Senate cannot be said to have vacated his office as President of the Senate by virtue of Section 50(2)(b) of the Constitution when the 8th Senate of which he is the President has not been dissolved. “A declaration that the President of the Senate cannot be said to have vacated his office by virtue of Section 50(2)(c) of the Constitution when he has not been removed from office by the votes of not less than two third majority of the members of the Senate”. In addition, they want a declaration that in view of Section 50 (2)(c) and the fact that the members of the Senate are 109 in number, any number less than 72 out of the 109 members of the Senate cannot validly sit and remove Saraki whether by impeachment or whatever name. Further more, the plaintiffs want the court to declare that by a combined reading of Sections 5 and 150(1) of the Constitution, any of the 8th to 10th and 11th defendants or their privies, agents, servants in whatsoever name so called cannot validly enforce any act of the 1st, 3rd to 8th defendants, whether jointly or severally, removing the 2nd defendant from office without such act being in compliance with Section 50(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). Accordingly, the plaintiffs prayed the court for an order restraining the 9th, 10th and 11th defendants, either by themselves, agents, servants, privies by whatsoever name so called from enforcing any act of the 1st, 3rd to 8th defendants purporting to have removed the 2nd defendant from office without such act being in compliance with the provisions of Sections 50 (2) of the 1999 Constitution. Also, in an affidavit deposed to by Senator Isah Misau in support of the originating summon, the plaintiffs informed the court that operatives of the Police and the DSS have taken steps to flagrantly breach the provision of Section 50 (i) and 2 of the Constitution by disrupting the plenary of the Senate without recourse to the provision to Section 50 (2)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Misau argued that the constitutional provision of removal of the Senate president as contained in Section 50 (2) (c) of the Constitution does not empower the AGF, the IGP and the DSS to unlawfully interfere with the legislative duties of the Senate by causing blockade at the premises of the National Assembly Complex or using their agents to disrupt the lawful duties of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. No date has been fixed for the hearing of the case. A’Court Halts Arrest Of INEC Chairman Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal in Abuja yesterday ordered a stay of execution of the warrant of arrest issued on chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmoud Yakubu. The court made the order pending the determination of the appeal filed by the INEC boss against the ruling of a Federal High .....

Tonto Dikeh in fresh scandal for sleeping with South African pastor for N18Million

A new drama is unfolding as born again actress and mother of one Tonto Dikeh has been accused of sleeping with a certain South African Pastor Shepherd Busiriyu for N18Million!
The accusation started after the actress posted the photo of the Pastor on her page welcoming him to the country despite the tag on him as an alleged ‘Fake’ pastor.
In recent times, the Pastor has been termed a very controversial man of God and the fans of Tonto had wondered why she would associate with such a man if indeed she had given her life to the true God.
A secret account had however stormed Tonto Dikeh’s page to unleash some dirty scandals. According to the account, the actress had slept with the man of God for 18Million and had completely sidestepped the friend who made the introductions.
The comment further revealed that despite the fact that the Pastor is in the country, the same friend is stopping Tonto from seeing him in a ‘Once beaten, twice shy’ move.
Tonto has however refused to say anything about the hot and very damaging accusations, even though one of her friends backed up the accusations saying she had been warned severally.

Mayorkun Reveals He Has A Thing For Simi And Eva Alordiah

Singer Mayorkun may have just let out more than many know about him.

The Sade crooner, in a new interview with Kokolife.ng, opened up about his music, relationship and crushes.

Read excerpts below;

KOKO: What is your most embarrassing moment as an artiste?

When I planned a show for like nothing less than 6 months and few days to the show, My DJ lost his laptop and we had to get a new one but he wasn’t used to the laptop, this caused me to have several glitches on set while performing. I was looking more or less unprepared for that kind of big event which was really embarrassing.

Errr, I’m close to my mum. I have a lot of older friends.

KOKO: When are you planning to set up your own record label?

No set time in mind, only when the time is right. For now, I am just building my brand.

KOKO: If you could date any Nigerian female act, who would it be and why?

Errr….Simi or Eva Alordiah. No major reason, they are my type, lol.

KOKO: What’s your relationship with Davido like?

We family!

KOKO: Are you in a relationship at the moment?

No, I’m not curently dating. I used to but am single at the moment.

KOKO: Who was she?

She’s just a normal girl naa lol. The relationship ended a year ago.

KOKO: What’s your relationship with your dad like?

We are very cool. My dad is my guy. We don’t talk as much, but we are good.

KOKO: You have been in the industry for a while now, when should we be expecting your debut album?

Sometime in October this year

KOKO: What really happened during your concert in Ibadan a few weeks ago?

Celebrities / Is Soco Definitive Sound Of Nigerian Pop Music In 2018? by DaMsOn007(m): 4:17am On Aug 06, 2018
Is soco definitive sound of Nigerian pop music in 2018?

The definitive sound of Nigerian pop in 2018 was decided in 2016 when producer Northboi created the beat for Soco, the hit song by the quartet of Wizkid, Terri, Spotless and Ceeza Milli.
Released in February this year, Soco has been streamed over a million times on Soundcloud and its video has so far racked up 13 million views on Youtube. The modest figures may belie the popularity of the song in Nigeria and the world over, and its abiding influence on the current output of Nigerian pop, five months after its release.
An increasing number of producers and artists have adopted the sound, reimagining Northboi’s composition and often, the cadence, vocal flourish or lyrical boasts by all four singers.
Immediately by Mystro and Wizkid faithfully copies the marimba and conga drums from Soco, but also the chorus’s melodic refrain kijo, kijo. The song was also produced by Mystro who, perhaps encouraged by its near 80 000 streams on Soundcloud, has followed up, this July, with “Do Like This” – another take on the ‘soco wave’ that features Tiwa Savage and DJ Consequence.
Tiwa Savage, for her part, has made two in Tiwa’s Vibe and Labalaba, as has Reekado Banks with Pull Up and Bio Bio with Duncan Mighty. Other examples include: Again O by Lil Kesh, Enough by Dice Ailes, Pempe by Sean Tizzle, Overload by Mr. Eazi, Tupac by Wande Coal, Onana by Smoothie, Agidi by D’banj and Askamaya by Teni.
Speaking via whatsapp messages from his base in Lagos, Northboi, who is 25 years old and a relative newcomer, says Spotless, a producer in his own right and brother to Tekno, was of “great assistance” in crafting the hook for Soco along with Wizkid who “created the idea for the chorus and gave it the twist that made it a hit.”
On exactly what this ‘twist’ is, Northboi is not......

Celebrities / Why I Enrolled My Son As A Mechanic Apprentice –kunle Afolayan by DaMsOn007(m): 12:13am On Aug 06, 2018
Why I enrolled my son as a mechanic apprentice –Kunle Afolayan

Actor and film producer, Kunle Afolayan shared with Saturday Beats the major reasons why he enrolled his eight-year-old son as an apprentice in a mechanic workshop. The actor had shared a video of his son Darimisire spending his holiday in a mechanic workshop. The video got a lot of positive reactions from his fans on social media.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, the Figurine director revealed why he wants his son to learn a vocation in addition to his academic studies.

He said, “Children of this generation may think they are having fun because they didn’t experience what some of us experienced but they are caged. Most of their life is spent either in front of television or the computer game. My children are a bit different; they are not addicted to anything. Even the most senior one who has a phone, most times I force him to pick the phone because he doesn’t stay on it.

“I also want him to learn how to interact with people outside the house and learn how to speak Yoruba so that when he is back in school, he will understand that life has different sides and not everybody is privileged to have what he has,” he added.

Afolayan who just launched a clothing line said that he never thought he would go into fashion industry.

“I never planned to have a clothing line; I like to be different, so I decided to use the Adire fabric to improve on the kembes I bought in India. After I designed and made some for myself, people liked it; that was why I decided to make a business out of it.”

The producer also shared how sad he feels about the challenges the Nigerian movie industry is currently facing.

“It’s sad that even after many years, we are still talking about ........

Politics / Do You Agree?-->secondus: A Military Regime Is Better Than This Government by DaMsOn007(m): 11:49am On Aug 04, 2018
Secondus: A military regime is better than this government

Uche Secondus, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says a military government is better than the current administration.

Speaking on Wednesday at a dinner to welcome those who left the All Progressives Congress (APC), Secondus alleged that the ruling party has foisted on the country “a kind of military democracy”.

Senate President Bukola Saraki and Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto, are the latest notable politicians to defect to the PDP.

Last week, some members of the national assembly dumped the APC for the PDP.

Secondus said those who left APC could not watch the country slide into crisis.

“They can not watch the country sliding into crisis as we have found ourselves today – bloodletting, killings unabated. Government of denial, government of frame-up, government of intimidation and harassment, a government that believe in the feast of arms,” Secondus said.

Teebillz promotes Tiwa Savage’s new single despite divorce

It seems all is getting well between Tiwa Savage and her estranged husband Teebillz. A new Instagram post by Teebillz shows him promoting a new single by the mother of his child. It wasn’t this way few weeks ago when he shared a video showing him in a strip club, plus a caption telling Tiwa to mind her business.
A few months back, Tiwa Savage allegedly filed for divorce from him.

According to media reports, all attempts by the couple to resolve their differences failed, hence Tiwa’s decision to formally call it quit, citing ‘unsolvable issues’ as the reason for the decision.

However, Tiwa is yet to confirm nor deny the divorce issue.

The duo then engaged in a ‘war of words’ on social media, as Teebillz alleged infidelity with other accusations, on the part of the singer.

*How many guys can still do this?*
