The world’s highest-paid women in music 2018

Katy Perry is the highest-paid woman in music, pulling in $83 million pretax during our scoring period, according to Forbes. One of the hardest-working names on the list, Perry played 80 dates of her Witness: The Tour in Forbes’ June-to-June timeframe, grossing over $1 million per night. She also managed to find time to serve as a judge on ABC’s American Idol reboot, reportedly earning north of $20 million for her troubles.

Taylor Swift ranks second with $80 million. The superstar songstress briefly disappeared from social media last year before roaring back with the launch of new album Reputation, which sold two million copies worldwide in its opening week. The only reason she didn’t claim the top spot on this list? Most of her Reputation Stadium Tour dates fell just outside this year’s scoring period.

Beyoncé rounds out the top three, pulling in $60 million. After she and husband Jay-Z welcomed twins Rumi and Sir to the family in June 2017, Queen Bey had a quiet year, by her standards, until delivering a groundbreaking performance at Coachella this spring and dropping a joint album with Jay-Z in June. Much of this summer’s On The Run II, their second stadium tour together, will be reflected in our next scoring period—boosted by an inevitable deluge of new moneymaking opportunities.

Pink ($52 million), Lady Gaga ($50 million), Jennifer Lopez ($47 million), Rihanna ($37.5 million), Helene Fischer ($32 million), Celine Dion ($31 million) and Britney Spears ($30 million) are in top 10.

Mavin queen, Tiwa Savage, has revealed that she only looks beautiful by the help of make-ups and push-up bras.

The music star said that in spite of the glitz and glamour she displays on social media, she sometimes feels depressed by low self-esteem.

Tiwa stated that sometimes she is intimidated by the glamour on social media.

“I get a lot of messages from young girls who are depressed with low self-esteem because they don’t feel pretty like the social media girls they see every day and my heart breaks because I feel like that too sometimes.

“We are all in this together, I’m not perfect, and not the prettiest, sexiest, richest but I’ll remain kind and seek after God’s heart because none of the others matters to Him.

“Ultimately God’s approval is all we need”, she said.

She added that contrary to public belief, she hardly sees herself as a pretty woman.

“Some people are born beautiful, flawless skin, long curly hair, fair skin but some of us grew up looking at the world’s definition of beauty and found ourselves not fitting into that standard but with the help of makeup, filters and push up bras we feel a little closer.

“What happens when you take all that off and you stare at yourself in the mirror, do you still think you are beautiful?

“You should because you are and when we meet our creator face to face it’s those with the kindest hearts that will stand as most beautiful.

“So while we work on the outside make sure we work on our hearts.”

We have Not declined Davido’s Petition — Eko Atlantic City

Popular Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido, had on Wednesday, in a statement posted on a social media platform, alleged that his request to use Eko Atlantic City as the venue for his end-of-year concert was not approved.

Interpreting this as a decision aimed at punishing him for his role in the last governorship election in Osun State, the singer had written, “Na the highest dem fit do be that. I will support who I want to support and not switch sides for a mere venue”.

But a few hours later, a public statement from a firm named as South Energyx Nigeria Limited, released on behalf of Eko Atlantic City, hit the social media, claiming that Davido’s request was not declined.

The statement, which was issued by the Corporate Communications department of the company and signed by one Joanna Fabikun, read in part, “It has been brought to our attention that we have allegedly denied the musician, Davido’s request to use Eko Atlantic City for his upcoming concert. We received this request on November 8th to which we responded for further clarification and details about the event on November 9th.

“We are yet to receive the requested information. So the notion that we declined the request is false. To imply that we are politically motivated is false. Some of the additional information requested was pertaining to security provisions as the Eko Atlantic City is not an events centre but a city with existing residents and businesses. In the light of this, we have strict rules and regulations when it comes to events and activities within the city, which require the due process.

Popular Nigerian Afrofusion singer and songwriter, Damini Ogulu, better known by his stage name Burna Boy, has said he can go shirtless if he sees someone wearing the same shirt he is wearing at an event.

The “Ye” crooner said this during an interview with Africa’s Finest, a fashion magazine.

When asked to describe his style, he said:

“I try to do what makes me feel like I’m swaggy, it could be a named brand or not. It just has to make me feel good. It just has to be different. For me, if it’s not different, then I don’t feel good.”

Yesterday, the socialite took to her Instagram to share a heart-melting note in which she talked about her decision to help a young man, James Obialor, who was recently arrested and harassed by the Nigerian police.



Recall that a few weeks ago, James’ video went viral after he was arrested alongside other young men by the officers of the Nigerian Police Force. He bravely challenged the officers who accused him of illegal acts, informed them of his HIV status, and he was eventually released when the cooked-up allegations couldn’t stick.

Nollywood actress Ini Edo has expressed concerns over the rate at which men of nowadays jump from one relationship to another for financial gains.

According to the Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Culture and Tourism, while young girls engage in one trade or the other for survival, some men move from one woman to the other for money. Hear her: “Men of these days are not what they used to be. But the issues are not addressed. Nobody is talking about it. That’s why Uche Jombo and I took that up and made it the theme of our new movie.

“Ironically, prostitution has reduced drastically. Young girls now go into different kinds of small-scale businesses like makeup, hair dressing and creams making. They now hustle more to make a living but I can’t say the same thing for men. I’m sorry but that’s the truth. For some men, their job is to move around from one woman to another for money. It’s like a full time job for them and nobody is addressing the issue. Don’t get me wrong, not all men do it, but some of them.”

When asked why she does more of production than acting these days, the dark skinned diva said: “I’m one of the first actors who started film production in Nigeria and also one of the first to take their movies to cinemas. If you can remember ‘I’ll Take My Chances’, I did it with Emem Isong. The movie gave birth to a new actor, Bryan Okwara. It’s my way of giving back to the industry. I had to tilt towards production of movies to effect the changes I had always wanted to see in the industry. I’m glad I was part of the huge changes we are experiencing now. Another film, ‘Knocking On Heavens Door’, I made sure we used new faces in it. That was how Adesua Etomi and Blossom Chukwujekwu came into acting.

“Aside that, If I am passionate about a story, I don’t mind the money being paid, I’ll go for the job. I’m not particular about money but the story or lessons behind the film.”

Meanwhile, the collaborative effort of Ini Edo and Uche Jombo, ‘Heaven On My Mind’ will hit cinemas across the nation on December 7, 2018. The highly anticipated movie, which began pre-production in late 2017 and finished filming in March 2018, is the first collaboration between the two talented actors as co-producers.

Curvy Nollywood actress, Seun Omojola has revealed some of the struggles she faces, especially walking in Lagos, due to the size of her breasts.



In an interview with Punch Newspaper’s Sunday Scoop, Omojola also talks about how her breast size distinguished her among peers when growing up.

The filmmaker said, “When I go to the market, especially Yaba Market, I get a lot of unpleasant comments from the traders, which make me uncomfortable. There was a day a man touched my breast to know if it was real; it was annoying.”

She added, “At some point as a kid, I was confused because I didn’t understand why my breasts were bigger than those of my peers. But as grew older, I became comfortable with who I am.”

Mercy Johnson Unveils New Haircut as she Clocks 34

The mother of three took time to reflect on life without her mother.
Nollywood actress and mother of three, Mercy Johnson Okojie, recently added a year to her age and to mark the day, she shared pictures of her new look on her Instagram page.
Reflecting on the past year, the actress, who recently celebrated her 7th wedding anniversary, reflected on the vacuum left by the death of her mother. According to her, life happens. She never, expected to lose her mum, she said, but it happened.

She wrote;
When you look into the coming year, you never plan for the worst. You always expect that life will have a way to make itself better…. Sometimes, like this past year has taught me, there are other plans… life simply happens.
I never expected to lose my mother so soon, and so suddenly, but it happened, life happened.
No one can teach you how to cry with every fibre of your being and when exactly to stop crying.
No one can truly teach you how to properly mourn a loss or fill up the empty painful, endless hole that death leaves.
No one can….No one has that power but God.. Soon, you learn how, How to draw strength from the eyes and the smiles of those that love and truly care for you, You learn to find peace in the breaths you take when you wake up and in even in the taste of pepper soup.
Sometimes you even learn from a comment or two or fifteen thousand.
You learn how to cherish the great memories you shared, the laughs, the tears, the prayers, the victories.
You learn that yes, life happens and yes sometimes we are powerless to change our circumstances.
But as long as we still have life, we will smile again, laugh again, love again and be born again…

‘Coming With My Own Vibe,’ Tiwa Savage Speaks

Tiwa Savage’s expectations for her first London concert as headliner is simple and straightforward: “I’m just expecting for God’s will to be done.

I want the people to have fun. I want my fans and supporters, my friends and family to come and feel Tiwa’s Vibe.”

The concert at Indigo O2 on the 24th of August is followed, the next day, by another in Northampton in the East Midlands of England. Both dates are part of “The Savage Tour” and draws from her many hit singles, as well as two albums – “Once Upon A Time” (2013) and “R.E.D” (2015) – and an EP “Sugarcane” (2017).

The afropop star was speaking during press rounds which took place at her lodgings in leafy Soho which historically has been a chief entertainment center in London, an uncommon choice for Nigerian pop artists, a good number of whom opt for the tall rises of London Docklands. Surrounded by an attentive team that includes a press manager, hair stylists and cameraman, Ms Savage carries a quiet grace that is evident in her small talk with her team, as it is in the demure way she eats her lunch, though she excused herself perhaps to finish eating in private – and away from waiting journalists – after which she was ready to be interviewed.

In speech, Ms Savage’s accent betrays the formative years she spent in London where she moved to, from Nigeria, when she was 11 years old. She has performed many a concert in the city over the years she has been an active musician. Why then is she only now headlining her own concert on what could well be hometurf? “I had to delay it purposely because I wanted my repertoire to be much larger. I think it’s just about timing. I feel like I’m (now) comfortable as a woman and as an artist”.

Ms Savage has released well-received singles in 2018 that include “Labalaba”, “Tiwa’s Vibe” and “Lova Lova” which features the resurgent Duncan Mighty whose near-perfect verse was apparently recorded in less than 20 minutes. ” I think the song chose him really because he came down to the studio, heard a bunch of records and that was the one he loved.”

Rita Dominic is a member of the Royal Nwaturuocha family of Aboh Mbaise local government area in Imo State. She is the youngest of four siblings. Her late parents were medical practitioners, her father was a medical doctor and her mother a nursing officer, Dominic attended the prestigious Federal Government College Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, before heading to the University of Port Harcourt, where she graduated with a BA (Honours) Degree in Theatre Arts in 1999.
