Why I Didn’t Honour Police Invitation – Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki yesterday disclosed why he failed to honour the invitation by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to report at a police station in Guzape, Abuja, over the Offa robbery incidence. Saraki’s special adviser on media and publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said his principal had answered all the questions raised in the police invitation in a letter sent to the police on Tuesday. The Senate president, who stated that his two-page letter to the IGP on the invitation was duly acknowledged, noted that after answering all the questions raised by the police in his letter, he did not believe that there was any further need for him to go to the police personally. LEADERSHIP recalls that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had on Monday invited Saraki to appear before the Police Special Anti-Robbery Unit in Guzape, Abuja, to answer questions on his alleged link to the Offa robbery incident. Saraki had stated in an earlier response that the invitation was “a mere afterthought which is designed to achieve political purpose.“ He said that he had it on good authority that the Police had already decided on the suspects to arraign in court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday (yesterday) based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mohammed U.E. and that his invitation was a ploy aimed at scoring cheap political points.

Politicians have killed the nation with their silly defections


Nigeria’s main opposition party now controls near majority seats in the senate after Senate President Bukola Saraki announced the defection of 15 APC senators to the PDP.

At the last count, 37 House of Reps members have also defected to the PDP from the APC.

The mass defections the Nigerian political scene just witnessed points to deeper problems in our democracy. Again, this just goes to show that we run a political system where parties have no ideologies and where politicians simply swap one political platform for another because of what’s in it for them in their new platforms. This point has been over-flogged now, but it needs restating again and again because it has ramifications for the rest of society.

Among the APC senators who defected to the PDP are Gemade, Melaye, Shittu, Rafiu, Isa Misau, Hunkuyi, Monsurat, Danbaba, Nafada, Nazif and Rabiu Kwankwaso, among others.
Since the nation’s return to democracy in 1999, politicians have had no scruples switching camps at the drop of a hat. We have had politicians who join parties for elective positions only to dump that platform once they have achieved their election goals. We have had politicians who switched camps back-to-back-to-back in one calendar year. The defections are driven by money, power and nothing else.

In a chat with Pulse two weeks ago,former Cross River Governor Donald Duke lamented that we run political platforms in Nigeria as opposed to political parties. Because political platforms have neither values nor ideologies, they welcome just about everyone, no matter how tainted, into their folds.

Chioma speaks on abandoning school for Davido

Davido’s girlfriend, Chioma has reacted to reports that she abandoned her education to be with the OBO crooner.

Earlier on Wednesday, the social media was agog with reports that Chioma abandoned her education in Babcock University.

The report claimed that her father is unhappy with her refusal to focus on education and become a graduate before getting married.

According to the viral report, Chioma is expected to have graduated since 2016 after she gained admission to study Economics in 2012. However, she is still in her third year.

On Friday, photographer Mofe Bamuyiwa Instagrammed a photo of the young girl named Jare, writing, “Oh yes she’s human! She’s also an angel!” The lifestyle-and-wedding photographer based in Lagos, Nigeria, explained that by positioning Jare in a more mature pose, she illustrated the intersection between child and adulthood.

Actor Kenneth Okonkwo officially unveils his Enugu Governorship post

2Baba suing me for N50m, says Blackface

The ‘Hard Life’ singer says 2Baba is suing him over his age-long claim that he wrote ‘Let Somebody Love You’ and ‘African Queen’, the latter’s biggest song to date.

In a post on Instagram, Blackface said: “2face Idibia @official2baba & his manager Efe Omorogbe @efeomorogbe sued me for 50Million.

“They (are) claiming I didn’t write #letsomebodyloveyou & #africanqueen (and) what else?

“Just about time me and my legal team (file) for #mydefence. After which I will release my album #risingsun (defendervol2).”

2baba had in May 2017 asked his former collaborator to apologise for making defamatory statements or face legal action.

In a letter sent through his lawyers, Seun Omotoba & Co, 2baba demanded that Blackface retract his comments.

Blackface, real names Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, has over the years levelled allegations of song theft and failure to give him songwriting credits against 2Baba.

Tiwa Savage should prove I begged her for money –Misi Molu

A controversy ensued on social media during the week when a radio presenter, Misi Molu, had stated during an interview that she preferred Yemi Alade as a singer with better vocal range than Tiwa Savage, who, in her opinion, just usually shouted. During that same interview, Yemi also said that she doesn’t believe there is a ‘number one’ artiste in Africa as the top acts were all doing well and could fill the same concert venues.

Days after a recording of the interview was posted online, Tiwa Savage made a series of posts to insinuate that Misi Molu had earlier begged her for money via social media shortly before airing her views about her talent. She wrote, “Wow! They beg you for money today and talk trash tomorrow because it’s not personal; they’re just doing their job, abi?”

In another post, she stated, “Celebrities are human o. You can’t beg for money then talk trash and expect me to not catch feelings. Like, are you serious? Next time you think of sliding in my DM asking for money or anything; remember your personal opinion and miss me with your BS.”

However, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, Misi Molu tasked Tiwa Savage to provide proof that she begged her for money. Reacting to Savage’s posts, she said, “Personally, I don’t believe she was talking about me. But if she is, she needs to show evidence to that fact. The situation has been blown way out of proportion than what the intentions of the discussion were actually meant to be. People are giving it way too much credence.”

History of National Youth Services Corps (NYSC)

Fact About NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is an organization set up by the Nigerian government to involve the country’s graduates in the development of the country. There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps program for one year. This is known as national service year. Ahmadu Ali served as the first Director-General of the NYSC until 1975. The incumbent Director-General is Brig. Gen. Sule Zakari Kazaure

The NYSC scheme was created in a bid to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war. The unfortunate antecedents in our national history gave impetus to the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps by decree No.24 of 22nd May 1973 which stated that the NYSC is being established “with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity”. As a developing country. Nigeria is further plagued by the problems attendant upon a condition of under development, namely; poverty. mass illiteracy, acute shortage of high skilled manpower (coupled with most uneven distribution of the skilled people that are available), woefully inadequate socioeconomic infrastructural facilities, housing.

Water and sewage facilities, road, healthcare services, and effective communication system. . Faced with these almost intractable problems, which were further compounded by the burden of reconstruction after the civil war, the government and people of Nigeria set for the country, fresh goals, and objectives aimed at establishing Nigeria as:

A united, strong and selfreliant nation

A great and dynamic economy

A land of bright and full opportunities for all citizens

The government and people of Nigeria are not aware that sound and patriotic leadership is a precondition for the rapid social and economic development of the country. As a nation, Nigeria has been less fortunate in the kind of leadership that emerge to govern the affairs of the country in the period immediately after independence, a leadership whose achievements notwithstanding, was none the less ill-prepared. and generally not properly motivated to tackle the problems of socioeconomic under development, in the interest of the country as a whole.

There is no gain saying the fact that the future of any country depends on the youths. The youths of Nigeria acknowledge this fact, and have consistently laid claim to the nation’s leadership.

While one may give credence to the saying that leaders are born, not made, one must also concede to the fact that leadership in a modem society requires a certain degree of preparation and orientation before the assumption of that role.

The universities and other institutions of higher learning are normally expected to be training ground for future leaders, except that, as we are all aware, these institutions are first and foremost committed to the advancement of learning and knowledge, training of people for good citizenship. Little wonder that the products of these institutions have been accused of being too elitist in their outlook, of not identifying with the plight of common man, and of inability to appreciate predicament of the vast majority of our people who live in the rural areas.

It was the need to look beyond the immediate present and to think of the future leadership of the country that necessitated the mobilisation of certain categories of our youths through the National Youth Service Corps Scheme. This was done with a view to giving them the proper guidance and orientation relevant to the needs of the country. The National Youth Setvice Corps Decree No. 24 which has now been repealed and replaced by Decree 51 of 16th June 1993, was then formally promulgated.

The purpose of the scheme is primarily to inculcate in Nigerian Youths the spirit of selfless service to the community, and to emphasize the spirit of oneness and brotherhood of all Nigerians, irrespective of cultural or social background. The history of our country since independence has clearly indicated the need for unity amongst all our people, and demonstrated the fact that no cultural or geographical entity can exist in isolation.

The office of the Director-General consists of four units:

Corps members are posted to states far from their state of origin where they are expected to mix with people from different ethic groups, social and family backgrounds, and learn the culture of the indigenes in the location they are posted to. This action is aimed at bringing about unity in the country and help the youths appreciate other ethnic groups. There is an “orientation” period of approximately three weeks spent in a military controlled “camp” away from family and friends. There is also a “passing out ceremony” at the end of the three weeks orientation camp after which corp members are posted to their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). They are expected to work as full time staff at their PPA with exception of one working day devoted for the execution of community development service. After eleven months at their PPA, corp member are allowed a one month of vacation before their final passing out ceremony where they would be issued certificates of completion.
Merit

Nigerian Graduates are ineligible for employment in governmental establishments (and few private establishments) till they have completed the mandatory one year service. Graduates who are exempted from the service include those above the age of thirty (30) and those with physical disability, therefore completing the service year entitles one to employment. During the service year, Corps members have the opportunity of learning the cultures of other people. An NYSC forum dedicated to the NYSC members was built to bridge the gap amongst members serving across Nigeria and also an avenue for corpers to share job information and career resources as well as getting loans from the National Directorate Of Employment,
Objectives of the scheme

The objectives of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme are clearly spelt out in Decree No.51 of 16th June 1993 as follows:

To inculcate discipline in Nigerian youths by instilling in them a tradition of industry at work, and of patriotic and loyal service to Nigeria in any situation they may find themselves.
To raise the moral tone of the Nigerian youths by giving them the opportunity to learn about

Wizkid returned to Nigeria from London on Thursday, July 5, 2018 to celebrate his mum’s birthday with her.

The singer had been informing fans about his mum’s birthday since Sunday, July 1, 2018.

“Mama’s day! see u soon,” he shared on his Twitter and Instagram accounts on July 1 and July 3, 2018 respectively.

On his return, the Singer gave a bouquet of roses to his mum as she celebrates her birthday.
