During the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, Muhammadu Buhari took his supporters to the streets not only for the presidential campaign but also on a protest. Then, Late Colonel Emeka Ojukwu (Rtd) and General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) were holding street protest against the regime.They were embarking on a protest against what they termed the impunity of the government of ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo.


However, on that day anti-riot policemen tear-gassed the presidential candidate of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) Buhari; his APGA counterpart, Chief Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Second Republic governor of the old Kaduna state, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, as they drove onto thestreets of Abuja to lead the mass protest against the election.The police halted the street rallies calling for President Olusegun Obasanjo’s resignation. A similar rally scheduled for Ikeja was also stopped by the police.
