Boko Haram jihadists killed at least four villagers on Tuesday and kidnapped three women near the northeastern Nigerian town of Chibok where the group snatched more than 200 girls two years ago, residents and survivors said. Boko Haram fighters attacked the Kautuva village at dawn, set houses ablaze and fired on residents, according to villagers and a member of a vigilante group working with the army. “Some of us were lucky to survive and ran to Chibok,” said a man who gave his name as Ali Pagu. Another resident said the jihadists had kidnapped three women. Kautuva lies near Chibok, a town from where Boko Haram seized 276 girls from a school in April 2014, part of a seven-year-old insurgency to set up an Islamic state in the north. It has left some 15,000 people dead and more than 2 million displaced. In May, authorities said a first of the missing Chibok girls had been found, and President Muhammadu Buhari vowed to rescue the rest of them. Dozens of the girls escaped in the initial melee in 2014 but more than 200 remained missing. Parents accused former president Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s leader at the time of the kidnappings, of not doing enough to track down the girls and bring them home. Boko Haram, which last year pledged loyalty to the radical group Islamic State, has kidnapped hundreds of men, women and children in their campaign to carve out an Islamist caliphate. Under Buhari’s command and aided by Nigeria’s neighbors, the army has recaptured most territory once lost to Boko Haram, but the group still regularly stages suicide bombings. The Barcelona legend will depart Camp Nou this summer after the Spanish champions' greatest rivals activated his €250 million buy-out clause Lionel Messi has left Barcelona in turmoil by agreeing to join Real Madrid at the end of the season in a record-breaking five-year deal that will be worth around half a billion euros. The Argentine forward, winner of five Ballon d'Or awards and considered one of the greatest players of all time, will cost Madrid €250m to buy and approximately the same again in agent fees, commissions and wages. The move was announced directly before Saturday's Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu in what appears to have been a deliberate move to destabilise the Liga leaders. Messi, who joined Barcelona as a 13-year-old, explained that money was the only factor driving his move. "With Financial Fair Play, Barcelona could not give me what I wanted and deserved," the 28-year-old said at the pre-match press conference. "I recommended they fund my contract by selling the Camp Nou, but for some reason they valued the club more than me. "When I learned this, I was heartbroken and our relationship was finished. "A man of my status should have a 2000-metre long mega-yacht, staffed and powered at all times. Like [Roman] Abramovich. The purchase and operating costs alone demand that I take home €50m per year after tax. Minimum. Is that too much to ask?" However, Newfacebook correspondent Daniel Nathaniel obtained exclusive information hinting at other reasons for the move. "Gerard Pique kept beating Messi at Fifa," McGarry explained in a series of poorly-worded tweets. "Messi hates to lose and became angered when the club refused to replace Pique's left hand with a pirate's hook. "That was it for the ‘little dictator’, and he has done the unthinkable." Sources in Madrid have indicated that Messi has also been offered the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, "when we get it back after Britain leaves the EU", information which was not confirmed or denied by the Messi camp. In an official statement released by Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo said he was delighted to welcome Messi aboard and that he was "looking forward to receiving his support from the wing". In commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, influential figures across the world has urged world leaders to act on promises to end extreme poverty faster by investing in girls and women. Top among the influential figures who have added their voices to the campaign are Oprah Winfrey, Muhammad Ali, D’Banj, Melinda Gates, Femi Kuti, Charlize Theron, Yemi Alade, Bono, and many others. Other numerous influential figures including Selmor Mtukudzi, Vanessa Mdee, Victoria Kimani, Amy Poehler, Danai Gurira, Angelique Kidjo, Shonda Rhimes, Jessie J, Colin Farrell and Robert Redford have also signed ONE’s open letter which shows the incredible strength of feeling across the global community for leaders to step up for girls and women everywhere. New analysis in ONE’s 2016 Poverty is Sexist report ranks the toughest countries in which to be born a girl, with Republic of Niger topping the list, followed by Somalia and Mali. Compared to their brothers, girls here have less education, lack access to opportunities, such as opening a bank account, and are less likely to get paid work when they grow up. Sixteen of the 20 countries that top the list are found in Africa, making it imperative for African leaders to fast-track efforts in improving women’s development. Pop star, D’banj said it will be very pleasant if more girls had the chance to grow up to be empowered women, where all women went to school and were not forced into early marriages. “Extreme poverty is choking the potential of generations of young women in the developing world. Poverty is sexist. It hits girls and women harder than it does boys and men, creating a real urgency that world leaders must address. Women need to be better empowered, especially in areas such as agriculture and healthcare, so that they can contribute their best to the development of Nigeria. Women need better access to land, inputs, and better maternal healthcare, among others. That’s why I’m raising my voice and asking others to do the same.” Grammy Award-Winning Artiste and Activist, Angelique Kidjo said: “The future of Africa is in the hands of its young women. If they are educated, they will educate their communities. If they are healthy, they will ensure others grow up healthy. If they are empowered, they will change the world. We can break the cycle of poverty, but we have to invest in girls and women to do it.” The ONE Campaign’s Poverty is Sexist report calls for policies that ensure legal equality for all and increased access to safe and reliable energy, which will particularly benefit girls and women. There must also be concerted efforts to connect everyone to the internet and further ensure that governments, businesses and civil society open up their own data so the public are able to see and account for progress towards achieving the Global Goals indicators. cc lalasticala mynd44 ijebaby source: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2016/03/dbanj-femi-kuti-others-joins-one.html |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday challenged the international community to rise up to the challenges of global insecurity, urging them to engender justice , fairness and understanding in their relationship with others. He advised the international leaders not fold their arms at the detriment of their citizens . He said this gesture was the only way to ensure sustainable peace, as opposed to the current pockets of insurgency in some countries across the globe. Obasanjo stated this at the 2016 National Summit and 4th International Colloquium, with the theme,’Human Security,Violent Extremism and Radicalisation seeking a Sustainable Solutions’ at his 79 birthday, which was organised by Centre for Human Security, held at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library,Abeokuta. He pointed out that, international community should also be cautious of need to ensure there is justice and fairness in whatever they are doing towards battling insecurity, stressing that that was only way to sustainable peace. He said “I went to Syria when I was President of Nigeria, one of the places I was taken to was refuge camp, where those refugees have been since 1948,nothing is been done to them. How do you want their children to think’,he stated. “In Norway,I met some members of the Talibans,we spent two days together. They are in the second echelon of the leadership,I was told the top ones will not come out,and when we listened to them,we are bound to say yes, they can get something better than they were getting’, Obasanjo said . While speaking on the roles of parents on the situation of the country, Obasanjo Using a Yoruba proverb, said,”There is a Yoruba adage that says ‘four eyes give birth to a child, 200 eyes will nurture such a child.’ When we were young, it took the whole community to raise a child. All that no longer exist. “Do we have homes today or houses? Parents have neglected their duty of proper upbringing of their children. They expect the schools to mould their children for them. “If we do not get it right from home,we have started loosing the battle.” The former president also noted that the challenge of impunity was another cause for concern, because according to him “we do everything with impunity.” In his paper presentation, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Prof. Ibrahim Ndoji, said education being the bedrock of development, remained the only potent weapon against violent extremism. He noted that as the nation continued its search for solutions to violence, extremism and radicalism, government all levels, must provide functional education to the populace, especially the youth who were potential targets for recruitment. cc lalasticala mynd44 ijebaby Source: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2016/03/obasanjo-tasks-international-community.html

Working on a computer that takes forever to buffer can be very frustrating. It gets even more disturbing when there are so many things to do on your schedule. In addition, a slow page that takes forever to boot is not helpful to your business as most customers do not have the patience to wait for a snail speed site to load. In light of this, Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal shares 5 ways you can boost the speed of your Web page. Compress large files Many websites devise creative ways to improve the ranking of their website through Search Engine Optimization practices which involves the use of videos, and shareable media-twitter, Facebook, and Instagram in order to have mileage but this additional content can reduce speed. The more the presence of these large files, the slower your system. So try to compress your larger pages to take up less space while attempting to boost your ranking on Google. Click Here To Subscribe To Our BBM Channel! Add Pin: C001AE1AD Or Search “Official Olodo Nation” To Get Live Updates. Use Browser cache Cache stores data so that future data requests can be served faster. Turning on the browser cache will save the relevant data on a hard drive which results in faster load time when the visitor comes back. Many geeks fail to use this tool and this leads to slow booting periods. However, be careful when using caches as hackers can use to have unauthorised access to your email and other sensitive sites you visit. Remove unnecessary plugins If you are using WordPress, running more than one plug contributes substantially to a slow page speed. Therefore, only use plugins if you absolutely need one. Review your hosting plan Sometimes unreliable hosting providers can have a negative effect on your site speed. Most hosting companies ensure that their services are top-notch but sometimes their servers are down. If you receive the daily complaints about your web page being slow, perhaps it is time to change your service provider. This is important for companies whose website experience substantial traffic. Image size An oversized image takes longer to load. The rule of thumb is use crisp pictures that are not too large to increase page speed. cc mynd44 lalasticala ijebaby Source: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2016/01/5-ways-to-increase-speed-of-your-website.html

So, guys it’s my first post this year 2016. Happy New Year again even though you’ve probably heard me say that a million times plus more on the TechCity radio show (Mondays 10.30am on City 105.1fm). I am sitting in my brightly colored chair at the office, reminiscing on technology about 10 years ago. I had a mobile phone at the time and was on Facebook, i think. This was 2006. If you grew up in Nigeria in the mid to late 90’s, you can very well relate to this article. It’s Thursday anyway, let’s throw it back! Quick flashback to the emergence of mobile phones in Nigeria and I remember the struggle in secondary school then, when we had 2 Reltel landlines. 2. Yes. One for internet on our e-machines desktop computer (haha) and the other primarily for calls. There was no way the gist you had for your friend could get across until you got home. Sometimes, you are hanging on to a call because once the network bar began to drop, that meant the dreaded “No service” signal was seconds away. If you had spoken for I think, 30minutes at a stretch, the call would be disconnected; and let’s just be real, the battery capacity of those land phones were the truth! The phones would be sitting pretty on the shelf, forgotten, save for when someone called. Ringtone of life! You could hear the ringtone from the other side. Hello? Adele. Few years later, my dad walked into the house with a “Buddie” starter pack. Yessss. That was the origin of “starter pack”. LOL. Your starter pack actually prepared you for the journey into mobile (GSM phone) life. It had your SIM pack; your SIM pack had a user manual, your SIM, PIN number and PUK code (if you lost your PUK code, you were clueless and a goner) and plenty other paper that I really do not see need for now that I think about it. Starter pack was international passport status at that time. You guarded it with a part of your life. Before telco’s started getting creative and really embraced the concept of mobility. Those were the days though. Everything, almost everything, was sacred, well kept and carefully packaged. Everything was heavy, no, had weight. Held water. Even words. They were carefully spoken and well seasoned, if you know what i mean. Where did all the years go? Do you think of these things sometimes? What else do you remember? Share them with me ![]() cc lalasticala ijebaby Source: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2016/01/throwbackthursday-of-landlines-desktop.html

The support got the nod from his other half to walk up the aisle in full Gunners garb... better than the more traditional top and tails? The ultimate show of support or... something else? An Arsenal fan walked up the aisle in full Gunner garb recently after getting the approval of his wife. "My wife is from Woking and she is awesome," he wrote on Facebook. "She let me get married in my full Arsenal kit! Maybe I just got lucky." In another post, the unidentified man wrote: "It's like I won the FA Cup and found the best woman in the world ever." He may have got the thumbs up from his wife, but Extra Time is not convinced cc lalasticala cc ijebaby Source: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2016/01/ultimate-show-of-support-fan-gets.html

A church in Taiwan thinks it's figured out the perfect way to attract female worshippers—shape it like a high-heeled shoe. The towering 55-foot tall structure was completed by the Southwest Coast National Scenic Area in just two months. The unbelievable building is made out of 322 pieces of blue glass, making it look like you're stepping right into Cinderella's slipper. the church also includes 100 female-orientated features like a chairs for lovers so couples can take wedding photos, biscuits and cakes. While this seems like a pretty superficial way to entice female churchgoers, the design was inspired by a tradition that requires a bride to wear high-heels in order to shatter tiles and away the pieces before joining the groom’s family. It apparently signifies the start of a new life. It isn't exactly clear what type of church it is, but it's set to open next month. cc to them all Lalasticlala Ijebabe Fynestboi Source: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2016/01/this-church-is-actually-shaped-like.html
