Talk about a second wind. A rally to end all rallies. In one of the last crazy stories of 2015 a Russian man out drinking with his friends is declared dead, resurrects at the morgue, and then joins his friends for another drink. The story is just about as wild as the one about a dead teen whose tomb was destroyed after her family heard banging coming from the coffin. The soon-to-be legendary (if true) story was skeptically reported by Newsfacebook writing it was "next to impossible to verify" after picking it up from Russian newspaper Khasanskiye Vesti on Tuesday. The story goes as follows. The Russian man was drinking with his friends when he "dropped dead" according to the paper and was taken to the morgue by paramedics once his friends called the police. From there Detective Alexey Stoev says the man "resurrected." Still drunk the man woke up confused in the "dark" and "cold" room, finding a corpse nearby sending him running for the door. After realizing it was locked the man reportedly banged on it, getting the attention of a female morgue employee who was so scared she called police instead of opening. When police came they found the man and released him. The traumatic event called for a drink and the man decided to return to his friends. Khasanskiye Vesti reported one of his friends fainted when he saw him in the flesh. CC LALASTICALA Source: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2015/12/russian-corpse-resurrects-in-morgue.html

Christmas truly did not start today. A photo has shown the precious moment people celebrated Christmas in Badagry as far back as 1923. Nigeria has indeed come a long way as a nation. Here, our forebears are pictured acknowledging Christmas as far back as1923 when the colonial lords and mistresses were still swinging the big stick over us. See the happy look on their faces. They were obviously enthralled with the event. Source: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2015/12/photo-see-what-christmas-day-looked.html

An Ikeja High Court presided by Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo on Monday sentenced a court registrar, Oluronke Rosolu, to 10 years imprisonment for defrauding a former Chief of Army Staff, Ishaya Bamaiyi of $330,000. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mrs. Rosolu was convicted on all the two counts charge of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences brought against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Mr. Lawal-Akapo, while sentencing Mrs. Rosolu, said: “the representation that she never collected $330,000 from the complainant is deceptive; the accused could not provide a strong alibi for her whereabouts when the fraud occurred. “I find the accused guilty as charged. “As a registrar of court, the accused should have been an image maker of the judiciary, but she acted in the contrary. “She has to swallow her bitter pill. “On count one, I sentence the accused to 10 years imprisonment and on count two I sentence the accused to 10 years imprisonment. “Both sentences are to run concurrently,” the judge said. NAN also reports that Mrs. Rosolu collapsed in the dock as soon as the judge gave the verdict, wailing in Yoruba language: “I do not know anything about the money, what is going to happen to my children.” Earlier, Mrs. Rosolu’s lawyer, Bamidele Ogundele, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy. “My Lord, my client is a first-time offender without any criminal record and she has four children as dependants. “My Lord, the society will not gain if her four children are abandoned without motherly care. “She has been on suspension from the judiciary for over a year and she is retiring next year after 34 years of active service in the judiciary,” Mr. Ogundele sought mercy for his client. Counsel to the EFCC, E.E. Iheanacho, however, requested that Mrs. Rosolu should receive the maximum sentence. “The crime for which the accused is being charged carries a mandatory sentence of 10 years imprisonment. “In the circumstance, we will be urging the court to sentence her accordingly,” the EFCC lawyer argued. The convict, who is a former registrar to Justice Joseph Oyewole, was tried for aiding Fred Ajudua, a one-time Lagos socialite to defraud Mr. Bamaiyi, a retired lieutenant-general, at Kirikiri Maximum Prisons between November 2004 and June 2005. The fraud was perpetrated when Messrs. Ajudua and Bamaiyi were remanded in Kirikiri Prisons for different offences. During Mrs. Rosolu’s trial, experts from EFCC and Mrs. Bamaiyi had testified that Mrs. Rosolu came to the prison during the period to help Mr. Ajudua funnel the funds from Mr. Bamaiyi. The anti-graft agency had alleged that Mr. Ajudua had made a false representation to Mr. Bamaiyi that the 330,000 dollars was the professional fees for the law firm of Afe Babalola and Co. to facilitate his (Bamaiyi’s) release from prison, a claim which the firm had since denied. Two forensic experts from the EFCC had also testified during the trial that Mrs. Rosolu had failed a polygraph test. Mrs. Rosolu, who testified during her trial, however, denied going to Kirikiri Maximum Prisons or knowing Messrs. Ajudua and Bamaiyi. The Shiite Movement has denied claims made by the Nigerian Army that the group attempted to assassinate Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai in Zaria, Kaduna State on Saturday, December 12, 2015. The Shiite Movement has denied claims made by the Nigerian Army that the group attempted to assassinate Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai in Zaria, Kaduna State on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Soldiers engaged members of the group in a gun battle after the alleged assassination attempt in a supposed counter-attack. The Shiites made the denial via a statement released by spokesman, Ibrahim Musa. It reads: “Following alleged blockade of the route of the Chief of Army Staff by the members of the Movement, the Nigerian Army brutally descended on armless members of the Movement with heavy military weapons killing indiscriminately.” “In the meantime, leading members of the Islamic Movement and other members as well, have been killed by the soldiers including the leader of the Kano Center, Sheikh Muhammad Turi, Dr. Mustapha Sa’eed, Malam Ibrahim Usman and Sister Jummai Gilima.” “Also killed were Sayyid Aliy, the son of the leader of the Movement, Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky; the wife of Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky, Malama Zeenat Ibraheem and tens of other members as more are being killed as at the time of this release.” “The sporadic killings took place at three locations that included the residence of the revered leader of the Movement at Gyallesu, the Husainiyya Bakiyatullah at the GRA and the Darur Rahma located along Zaria-Jos road where many unarmed people were killed.” “The killing was so brutal at Gyallesu that even those injured in the shooting were identified and killed in cold blood by the soldiers. And as at the time of writing this press release, the victims are in their hundreds, if not thousands.” “Considering the gross violation of fundamental human rights and extra-judicial killings perpetrated by the Nigerian Army, the Islamic Movement hereby condemns these unjustifiable acts.” “We state categorically that the claim by the Army that members of the Movement attempted to assassinate the Chief of Army Staff was a blatant lie as the army came back to launch their attack more than an hour after the COAS had passed.” “Clearly, the Nigerian government through its military is now on rampage in an all-out war with the Islamic movement, its members and structures. The scale of this attack would suggest it was meticulously planned by authorities and now being executed ruthlessly.” “The alleged attack on COAS Buratai was just an alibi. Therefore, with all pointers at the government as the contractor of the killings, we hereby call on well-meaning Nigerians and the international community to intervene and seek redress for the victims and their family members as many innocent people have unjustifiably been killed and many others severely injured.” In the meantime, there is no idea as to the where about of the leader of the Movement, Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky nor his current condition, and aggrieved members of the Movement across the country have taken to the streets in protests”. The army is said to have arrested the group’s leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky while the Shiites have claimed that 500 members of the group were killed in the attack. The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has granted the former Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, bail to the tune of N400milion. In a ruling this afternoon, trial Justice Gabriel Kolawole ordered Dokpesi who is facing a six-count criminal charge, to produce two sureties who must deposit N200m each. Dokpesi The court stressed that one of the sureties must be a public servant, either serving or retired, not below the level of a Director, adding that the second surety may be an entrepreneur who must submit three years tax clearance. Justice Kolawole held that either of the two sureties must tender title deeds of a landed property in any part of Nigeria, the value of which must not be below N200milion. The sureties, the court said must depose to an affidavit of means, submit two recent passport photographs to the Deputy Chief Registrar, DCR, Administration, of he high court. Dokpesi further directed to surrender his international passport, “If already in custody of the EFCC, it should be delivered to the DCR of the Federal High Court in charge of Litigation”. Meanwhile, Justice Kolawole ordered that Dokpesi should be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of the bail conditions. It will be recalled that Dokpesi who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was arraigned before the court on December 11, over alleged N2.1billion fraud. He is facing trial alongside his firm, DAAR Investment and Holdings Ltd, owners of African Independent Television, AIT, and Raypower FM. Specifically, EFCC, in the charge signed by its Deputy Director, Legal and Prosecution, Mr. Aliyu Yusuf, alleged that Dokpesi received about N2.1billion from the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, for PDP’s presidential media campaign. According to the charge, the funds were released to the accused persons between October 2014 and March 19, 2015. The funds were allegedly transferred from an account the office of NSA operated with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to a FirstBank of Nigeria Plc account owned by DAAR Investment and Holding Company Limited The prosecution maintained that the transaction was in breach of section 58 (4) (b) of the Public Procurement Act 2007 and punishable under section 58 (6) and 7 of the same Act, as well as under section 17 (b) of the EFCC Act, 2004. Dokpesi had since pleaded not guilty to the charge, even as the court slated February 17, 18 and March 2 and 3, 2016, to begin full-blown hearing on the matter. The World Bank has urged Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari to act now if he is seriously considering the removal of fuel subsidy. The issue was discussed on Monday, December 7, at the Executive Council of the Federation meeting. According to the World Bank’s Lead Economist, John Litwack, on Tuesday, December 8, the best time to take such decision is now. While the Buhari administration has hinted at its intention to remove fuel subsidy, the debate is still on in the country with many Nigerians, including the organised labour, rejecting the plan. The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udoma, while unveiling the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the government’s N6 trillion budget proposal for 2016, said the government was seriously weighing the options between removing or retaining fuel subsidy next year. The government’s body language appears to favour the former, rather than the latter. Mr. Litwack said at the launch of the new edition of Nigeria Economic Report that if the government really meant to take a decision on the issue of fuel subsidy removal, the best time to act would be now that global crude oil price was at its lowest level. “The fuel subsidy appears to have vast modest benefits for the majority of citizens, but the costs are quite high,” Mr. Litwack noted. “There is a strong tendency for the cost of the fuel subsidy to increase over time as increasing domestic demand for petrol outpaces growth in oil output or revenues. “The $35 billion cost of the fuel subsidy during 2010 – 2014 was one of the reasons why Nigeria was unable to accumulate a fiscal reserve n the Excess Crude Account that could have protected the country from the recent oil price shock.” Source: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2015/12/now-is-best-time-to-remove-fuel-subsidy.html

In a recent chat, the Black Diamond of Africa, Wande Coal, spoke about the lingering beef between his mentees, Wizkid and Davido. He said that although he is a mentor to both parties, he made it clear that he is closer to Wizkid. Wande told Saturday Beats: “I have influenced the music of both Wizkid and Davido but the person with whom I went through a lot with and greatly influenced is Wizkid. I don’t think anybody should blame Wizkid for whatever action he takes. I know Wizkid very well and I know that he learns from everything. He is a great kid and I love him a lot.He is my brother and that is why he calls my name in his songs. We bonded. With David, I feel he is a good artiste. In the game called music, there would always be friction but it does not mean that they are not cool with each other. People need to know that music is competitive,” he said. - See more at: http://www.newsfacebook.co.uk/2015/11/people-should-stop-judging-wizkid-wande.html
