Celebrities / Family Accuses Late Ojb’s 1st Wife, Mabel Of Stealing House Documents by Daniyke88(m): 8:06pm On Nov 07, 2018
The family of late Nigerian entertainer, OJB Jezreel has accused his 1st wife, Mabel Okungbowa has been accused of stealing the house documents of the properties the producer left behind.

According to reports, the deceased’s property located on Gbaja street, Surulere, Lagos has been causing a lot of ripples since his demise.

It was gathered that OJB’s aged father, Pa Anthony Okungbowa wants his son’s first wife, Mabel Okungbowa to vacate the house with her kids, while OJB’s brother are also accusing her of ‘stealing’ and ‘ fraudulent conversion of the house’.

Narrating her ordeal, Mabel said:

‘This house issue has been causing problems since OJB died. His family keeps accusing me of stealing the documents despite the fact that they all know the documents are with his lawyers. They’ve dragged me to court and used Police to arrest me several times. It’s really tiring’.

She went on to say,

‘Sometime in June this year, they told the court they wanted to settle the case out of court and we agreed with a mediator only for them to have me arrested again on July 11th. I was taken to Lion Building and accused of stealing and fraudulent conversion of the house. We settled that one and after some time, police from Zone Two came to pick me up again over this same issue, they just went to deposit me at the barracks still claiming that I stole the documents’.

‘Now, I’ve been able to get a restraining order from the court against them (OJB’s father, his brothers and the police) and we have the next hearing of the case coming up on November 22nd’ she said.

The senator, who is very popular on social media for always expressing his opinions on ant topic, no matter who’s involved, stirred reactions among some Nigerian social media users with his campaign poster.

Politics / “I Came Back To Power In This ‘agbada’ To Convince Nigerians” – Buhari by Daniyke88(m): 4:14pm On Oct 31, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed the belief that the future of Nigeria will only be salvaged by those who love the country. He revealed that he came back to power as a democratic president to convince Nigerians to make sacrifices for Nigeria’s future.

The president said this during a dinner with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Aspirants Forum at the Presidential Villa yesterday, October 30, 2018. The forum is a group of APC members who are unhappy with the conduct of the party’s recently-concluded primary elections and are rumoured to be planning to dump the party.

In a statement signed by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari urged the aggrieved party members to be patient in service of the nation.

Buhari said,
“I urge you to stay faithful if your objective is to serve the country. I came back to power in this ‘agbada’’ to convince Nigerians to make sacrifices that the country needs now for a better future.”

While noting that not everyone will be appeased by the party, he urged aggrieved members to maintain faith in the party and the country. He said the primary motivation to contest elections should be to improve the country and vowed there will be more future opportunities for them to serve the nation. He said they must be vigilant and not associate with people of questionable integrity in their bid to achieve political convenience.

“Those who mismanaged the resources of the country are still very much around, with incredible wealth,” he said.

Politics / Why Bianca Ojukwu Lost APGA Senatorial Ticket – MASSOB by Daniyke88(m): 10:49am On Oct 06, 2018
Bianca Ojukwu lost the All Progressives Grand Alliance ticket to the Senate due to disobedience , the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has said.

Bianca, the wife of late Biafra warlord, Emeka Ojukwu, recently lost the Anambra South Senatorial District ticket to Nicolas Ukachukwu.
And a statement by MASSOB noted that the development is a stamp that “our ancestors” are against her quest.

“Though she is loved, honored and acknowledged by Ndigbo as the wife of Eze Igbo Gburugburu, still MASSOB can never allow Iyom Bianca Ojukwu to be rubbished or mesmerized by Hausa Fulani people in the red chamber of National Assembly,” MASSOB said.
“MASSOB warned that the leadership of APGA should not be blamed or castigated because of the failure of Iyom Bianca Ojukwu.

“She failed because she disobeyed her husband and our ancestors who have seen the mesmerization she will encounter in the red chamber of the National Assembly. Her failure is a divine act.

“MASSOB under Comrade Uchenna Madu will never relent or derail in defence of the integrity, honour and respect of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu).
“We advice the Igbo governors the importance of establishing a human development centre in honour and memorial of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a centre that will alleviate the sufferings and subjections of marginalized widows in Igbo land.”

Politics / Why I’m Contesting Against My Brother For Senate- Chris Uba by Daniyke88(m): 9:47am On Oct 06, 2018
A senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra South Chris Uba has said his brother Andy Uba has overstayed at the Senate.

Chris said this on Friday in Awka the Anambra State capital where he noted that his brother who is going for a third term in the red chambers, should take a bow.

“My brother has been there for eight years and must take a bow now,” he said.
“I pray for my brother to go higher; he can become a governor or vice president but not a senator again.

“It is now my turn. I want him to throw in the towel because the fight is going to be very serious.”

He added that he wants to “run because we have been sponsoring politicians in Anambra State and across Nigeria. I have been doing that and a lot of people have passed through my school.

“But they call us godfathers, we have made case several times for the party to make some provisions in the party’s constitution to protect godfathers, but no way, no provision.

“The truth remains that godfathers are closer to the grassroots. A lot of people depend on us, a lot of families depend on us and many families today are hungry.

“But after sponsoring politicians, immediately they get to Abuja, you can’t get them on the telephone again, nobody will see them again, they buy all choice cars and the next thing they will blackmail you.

“Little thing, they will start fighting you, they will say they’ve known the President, they’ve known the party chairman and as a godfather, you are in trouble.

“So, now we need to occupy offices to protect our position and the positions of our people. That is why I am running for the senate.

Politics / Viral Photos Of Police Officers Teargassing Saraki And PDP Leaders by Daniyke88(m): 7:42am On Oct 06, 2018
Notable national leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party were, on Friday in Abuja, teargassed by the Police officers.

The operatives fired tear gas at the protesters in a bid to prevent the protesters from entering the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Senator Dino Melaye and other PDP leaders were involved in a struggle with police officers during a protest at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the result of the recently-concluded Osun governorship election.

Others who also had raw deal in the hands of the Police were the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose; his Taraba State counterpart, Darius Ishaku; a former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, Senator Dino Melaye, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, presidential aspirants, Danti Baba Ahmed and Tanimu Turaki.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, however, escaped the incident because he didn’t follow the protesters to the Police Force Headquarters where the men were teargassed.

Dogara left shortly after the team visited the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters, Maitama, Abuja.

Secondus and his team complained about the outcome of the Osun State governorship election, which they believed was won by the PDP candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, but was rigged in favour of the APC candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.

The Secondus team had stormed the Police headquarters, Louis Edet House, for the protest, but the protesters were prevented by the Police from entering their premises.

The Police also fired gun shots into the air to disperse the protesters who scampered for safety in different directions, with some people sustaining injuries.

Some of the protesters and journalists who were affected by the teargas were revived with water.

Politics / [BREAKING] APC Expels Senator Omo-agege With Immediate Effect by Daniyke88(m): 7:45am On Oct 04, 2018
Reports from the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Cyril Abeye Ogodo indicates that the party has expelled Ovie Omo-Agege, the senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly and factional senatorial candidate in the 2019 general election.

it is gathered that the decision rose from an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC ) in Asaba on Wednesday. The party said its decision to expel Omo Agege from the party followed his “unabated involvement in anti-party activities”.

A statement titled ‘Delta APC Expels Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’, signed by the party’s Legal Adviser, Dennis Nwanokwai Esq, and obtained by SaharaReporters, noted that the senator’s expulsion is with immediate effect.

“The latest of such activities relates to the hijack of primaries panel members and materials sent from the national secretariat to conduct primaries in the state and deploying same to conduct unauthorised parallel primaries.

Others are the manipulation and tampering of delegates’ lists and the use of thugs to harass and deprive authentic delegates from access to primaries venues, all that in conjunction with Prophet Jones Erue and others who have earlier been expelled from our party.

The expulsion of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is with immediate effect. The SWC also resolved to petition the security services, including the Police and DSS to arrest and prosecute Senator Omo-Agege, Prophet Jones Erue and others for impersonation and others actions calculated to breach public peace” the party stated.

It was however learned that the Ogboru/Omo-Agege faction of the APC led by Jones Erue had also slammed the state leader of the party and the 2015 Delta State governorship candidate of the party, and the party’s senatorial candidate in the 2019 general elections, O’tega Emerhor, with expulsion over same offence for which Omo-Agege was thrown out of the party.

Ahead of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier game against Libya on Saturday, Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, has explained the reason behind Gernot Rohr’s decision to drop the teams captain, John Mikel Obi.

The last time Mikel, played for Nigeria was during the summer’s 2018 FIFA World Cup.
According to Ibitoye, he claimed that Mikel has been excused from the team which will face Libya because he needs to recover from injury.

“ Mikel has been excused because he is just recovering from injury in China and needs time to fully regain fitness,” Ibitoye told BBC Sport.
“ We expect him to be available for the November game against South Africa. ”

The Saturday game is scheduled for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital and the kick off time is 4pm.

Politics / FG Cuts Cost Of Business Registration From N10,000 To N5,000 by Daniyke88(m): 4:43pm On Oct 03, 2018
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday announced the Federal Government’s approval of a 90-day special window to register businesses at a reduced rate of N5000 only.
A statement, signed by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President in Abuja, said that Osinbajo made the announcement in Enugu.

Osinbajo, who was quoted as making the announcement at the launch of the 19th edition of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Clinics in Enugu, said the special window of 90 spanned from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31.
He said that the gesture was to further ease the process of registering MSMEs in the country.
“It was observed during some of the earlier editions of the MSMEs Clinics that a lot of MSMEs were finding it difficult to register their businesses as a result of cost.

“The practice since we began the MSMEs clinics is that most agencies offer price reductions, especially for registration, and all other pre-investment approvals, during the Clinics.

“So, I am pleased to announce that the Federal Government, through the Corporate Affairs Commission, has approved a special window of 90 days from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 to register businesses at a considerably reduced rate of N5000 only, down from as much as N10,000 previously.

“This will afford more MSMEs an opportunity to formalise their businesses.”

Speaking on other initiatives by the Federal Government designed to consolidate the gains of the MSMEs Clinics, Osinbajo said that the Federal Government would be establishing shared facilities for MSMEs.

He said that the facilities would be based on a partnership between the Federal Government, interested States, Bank of Industry, NEXIM Bank, FIRS, NAFDAC, SON and interested private sector partners, as part of efforts at deepening the impact of the Clinics.

“The purpose of these shared facilities is to have a fully-equipped place with machinery and equipment required for various trades and businesses. MSMEs can then do their businesses at those locations at a reasonable cost.

“This way, MSMEs are spared the financial burden of having to buy their own equipment in order to be able to do business.

“Where possible, these shared facilities would have been pre-certified by relevant agencies, removing the need for MSMEs to pursue these certifications by themselves.’’

He also announced the Federal Government’s willingness to partner with State governments in establishing more One-Stop Shops, to further enhance business registration and facilitate seamless interaction between owners of small businesses and the relevant regulatory agencies.

The vice president said that the Federal Government was also aware that some States had gone on to set up ‘One-Stop Shops’ after the Clinics.

According to him, the One-Stop Shops will bring all the relevant agencies together in one place so as to enable the MSMEs access their services on an ongoing basis.

“The Federal Government is also willing to partner with your State Government to immediately set up one such place for the good use of MSMEs in Enugu State,” he said.
Osinbajo also said there were follow-up plans to ensure that all the finalists from the maiden edition of the MSMEs Awards were supported with publicity and media exposure, to enable them to reach even larger markets at home and abroad.

He said that the ongoing disbursement of collateral and interest-free loans given to petty traders under the GEEP TraderMoni programme would soon be launched in Enugu.

Earlier in his remarks, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state said the State government had already keyed into some of the social investment programmes initiated by the Federal Government.

Ugwuanyi promised that the state would continue to cooperate with all federal authorities to improve the well-being of the people.
The governor expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for inaugurating the National MSMEs Clinics in the state as it would greatly improve the lives of many youths, especially those seeking employment opportunities.

Travel / No Lives Lost As Tanker Explosion Leaves 10 Vehicles Burnt by Daniyke88(m): 6:15pm On Oct 02, 2018
A tanker explosion late Monday night has left in its wake, 10 burnt vehicles and property damage worth millions of Naira as the public relations officer (PRO) of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Kehinde Adebayo blamed “unsafe” practices of residents around the area for the explosion.

According to Adebayo, the agency was notified of the accident that happened at Barracks bus stop inwards Iyana Oba, Lagos-Badagry Express Way yesterday at about 9.48 pm, prompting the immediate deployment of their Response Team to the scene of the incident.

Speaking with The Guardian, Adebayo said, “Upon arrival at the scene, it was observed that the tanker with an unknown registration number and fully loaded with PMS of 33,000 litres and a white mini truck carrying electrical appliances collided side by side.”

“Subsequently, the tanker’s rear compartment got punctured resulting to spilling of the contents of the tanker onto the road. Consequently, a combined team of LASEMA Response Team, the LASG Fire Service, the Nigerian Police and other responders were able to successfully curtail and stop further spillage of the PMS into the environs and the articulated tanker and trucks were thereafter recovered.”

Explaining what caused the fire, the agency’s PRO said during the recovery process, the spilled content of the PMS which spilled into the distant environment ignited and burst into flames, consequently travelling back to the proximity of the scene resulting into three buses, one car and six trucks catching fire at once.

“The circumstances resulting to this fatal secondary incident could have been attributed to unsafe practices by inhabitants in the distant environs where the PMS spilled into. It is pertinent to note that no person was injured or died in the incident,” he said.

An eye witnesses in the area that spoke under conditions of anonymity confirmed that some residents were going to scoop fuel from the fallen tanker into kegs and bowls and this might have been responsible for the explosion.

“People rushed there to pack fuel inside jerrycan and even though some were afraid and telling them to stay away, they refused. Before we know what is happening, we saw fire but everyone was able to escape.”

The Lagos State Fire Service, officials of the LASEMA Response Team, 81 Division Nigeria Army Fire Service, Nigerian Police and LASTMA were the responders at the scene of incident and they combined efforts to put out the fire.

The General Manager of LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu advised motorists to always listen to the instructions of emergency workers at incident scenes to avoid such unfortunate incidents in the future.

Travel / EU Workers Moving To UK Post-Brexit Need Visas, Skills by Daniyke88(m): 6:06pm On Oct 02, 2018
EU workers coming to settle in Britain after Brexit will require visas and the preference will be for high-skilled immigrants, Prime Minister Theresa May said on Tuesday.

At her governing Conservative Party’s annual conference, May said she would release plans for a single system for EU and non-EU migrants later this year, ahead of a bill to be published in 2019.

Immigration was a key issue in the Brexit campaign ahead of the 2016 vote to leave the bloc.

May said the European Union’s free movement of people will end with Brexit and “for the first time in decades, it will be this country that controls and chooses who we want to come here”.

“It will be a skills-based system where it is workers’ skills that matter, not where they come from,” she said in a statement.

She added: “For too long, people have felt they have been ignored on immigration.

“The new skills-based system will make sure low-skilled immigration is brought down, and set the UK on the path to reduce immigration to sustainable levels.”

May said that those wanting to live and work in Britain for the long term would need to earn a minimum salary, and would only be able to bring their family if sponsored by their future employers.

However, she conceded that immigration policy could be affected by Britain’s future trade deals.
The EU may seek to negotiate continued preferential treatment in return for Britain’s access to its single market, while other countries could also seek visa waivers as part of their own trade agreements.

The government has already promised to protect the rights of more than three million EU citizens currently living in Britain after Brexit, even if there is no divorce deal.

British values test
Fleshing out the policy, Home Secretary Sajid Javid said the new immigration rules should be overhauled to reflect Britain’s values better.

“We now have a unique opportunity to reshape our immigration system for the future,” the interior minister told the conference in a speech.
He pledged to revamp the current “Life in the UK” test for incoming citizens, which focuses on British history questions, saying it should be about more than “pub quiz” skills.

It is more important for prospective citizens to understand the “liberal, democratic values that bind our society together”.

“We need to make it a British values test.”
He said there were 700,000 people in Britain who could not speak basic English, adding: “How can we possibly make a common home together?”

Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics found that in 2017, immigration ran at 630,000 people: 311,000 from outside the EU, 240,000 from within the EU and 80,000 Britons returning home.

Some 349,000 people emigrated, including 139,000 EU nationals, 126,000 Britons and 84,000 from the rest of the world, leaving net migration at 282,000.

The UK population is estimated at around 66 million.

Politics / Biriyai Dambo And Ayebaesin Edoghotu-Omoh Want To Replace Ben Bruce Senate Seat by Daniyke88(m): 2:39pm On Oct 02, 2018
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both men arrived the party’s state secretariat in Yenagoa, on Wednesday, with their supporters.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Biriyai Dambo, and the former Deputy Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Chief Ayebaesin Edoghotu-Omoh, have all purchased and submitted the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) nomination forms to replace Senator Ben Murray- Bruce in the Senate, in next year’s election

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both men arrived the party’s state secretariat in Yenagoa, on Wednesday, with their supporters.
Separately, they said it was high time the occupier of the seat came from another council area, in fulfilment of the zoning arrangement in the senatorial district.

NAN can confirm that the seat has always been held in rotation by the three Local Government Areas, which are Ogbia, Nembe and Brass.

The first person elected in 1999 for the district was former governor Melford Okilo, who died in 2008. He was from Ogbia. He was followed in 2003 by Spiff Inatim Rufus from Brass, who gave way to Senator Nimi Barigha Amange , from Nembe in 2007. In 2011, Senator Clever Marcus Ikisikpo was elected. He represented Ogbia council. Then Murray-Bruce from Brass succeeded him in 2015. Now two Nembe indigenes have thrown their hats in the ring to replace the ‘common sense’ senator.

Chief Edoghotu-Omoh, said he is aspiring to succeed Senator Ben Bruce in order to attract the dividends of democracy to his constituents and contribute his quota for the national development.

“I will work to ensure that my people are carried along in the scheme of things in Nigeria, I will work assiduously to ensure that petroleum industry bill becomes law, because the bill is so dear to the heart of every Niger Deltan. I will also work for the passage of land use act, because it will benefit my people.

” I am the most qualified person for the senatorial position, because I am a grassroots person. My records as the deputy speaker speak for me. I am coming to contribute my quota to the national development and bring good dividends of democracy to my people, I believe I can do more than what others have done,” he said.

He said Bayelsa East senatorial district always adopts rotation for the senatorial seat to give room for equitable representation and allow every section of the society to also feel the sense of government.

The former lawmaker said zoning is part of the PDP constitution and must be adhered to strictly.

Also, Mr Dambo, SAN, promised to tackle environmental degradation and protection of entire Niger Delta region when he is elected.

We remain the only people with the guts and all it takes to challenge and repelle the Fulani terrorists across the entire Nigeria; we have done it before and we are 1001% on ground to do far better than we ever did. Politics / Ambode, Sanwo-olu And Gbagada General Hospital’s Breach Of Hippocratic Oath by Daniyke88(m): 10:10am On Oct 01, 2018
" Into whatever houses I enter…whatever, in connection with my professional practice or not, in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret”

The inference above is the medical Hippocratic oath of secrecy that protects the rights of patients and their medical records from being divulged to a third party. Health and ill-health is often a deeply personal journey and the fear of stigma and shame keeps many sufferers from seeking medical attention. So it is of the utmost importance that personal information shared remains between the patient and the care giver.

This medical oath of secrecy has now been flouted by some medical personnel at the Lagos state owned Gbagada General Hospital and is now being used as a political weapon by the Lagos state Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode against the aspiration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo Olu a Governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

On Sunday, September 30, 2018 the Lagos state Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode while addressing a press conference at the Lagos house Alausa, took a swipe at Mr. Sanwo-Olu by saying “He doesn’t have the competence to do what he is being propelled to do. This is somebody that has gone for rehabilitation before. The records are there at the Gbagada General Hospital,”. This simply means the state Governor would have either used his position as the Governor to access Mr. Sanwo-Olu medical records or some medical staff at the Gbagada hospital made such records available to the Governor even without requesting for it for political reasons. Irrespective of how the Governor got to know about this medical history, it shows the Gbagada General Hospital committed an infraction by making such information public without the approval of the patient while the decision of the Governor to make such a political point is another low for public communication by elected officers in the country.

I am indifferent to the existing political situation in the state but all I’m saying is that the right of every patient must be respected and protected from third party as contained in the Hippocratic Oath that was sworn to by medical personnel as the release of such information without the patients approval could be damaging. As for the Lagos state Governor, he has committed an infraction that belittle his office.

Veteran Nigerian rapper, Naeto C who has been off the music radar for some time appears to have joined politics as he was recently spotted as a member of PDP election committee.

The entertainer was spotted in Kwara State, where he is currently serving as a member of the Kwara PDP election committee for the primary. The exercise took place at Kwara Hotel, Ilorin, the state capital, and it was gathered that the rapper is among the election committee nominated by the PDP headquarters for the primary. The committee is headed by Charles Menabbo.

Naeto C joins politics, now a member of PDP election committee

Well Naeto C joining politics shouldn’t come as a surprise. His mother, Kema Chikwe, was a former Nigerian Federal Minister of Aviation, who also held the position of National Women Leader of the PDP for many years.

Politics / Buhari’s Speech On Nigeria’s 58th Independence Anniversary by Daniyke88(m): 8:30am On Oct 01, 2018
NATIONAL BROADCAST BY H.E MUHAMMADU BUHARI PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE 58 INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY, 1 OCTOBER, 2018

Fellow Nigerians,
Today is a day of celebration and solemn reflection. It is the anniversary of the day Nigerians realised one of the most cherished of human desires – the desire for freedom. We, therefore, give thanks to and remember our founding fathers who laboured so hard and sacrificed so much to build and bequeath to us this wonderful nation. It is our duty to consolidate this great legacy.

2. On this first October date and on the eve of the start of the general election cycle, we should do well to reflect on what binds us together and the great strength our diversity bestows on us. Ours is an ambitious nation, and, as citizens we have every right to look forward to the future with confidence and optimism which are well founded, considering where we find ourselves today.
3. There has been a steady improvement in the security situation in the North East. We remain committed to ending the crisis and make the North East safe for all.

4. Our thoughts and prayers are always with the victims of the Boko Haram’s atrocities and their families. Beyond that, we know that the goals of the Boko Haram terrorists include capturing territories, destroying our democracy and denying our children the right to education. We will not allow them to succeed.

5. I want at this point to pay tribute to the men and women of our armed forces, the Police and other security and law enforcement agencies, who have been working under the most difficult conditions to keep the country safe. In the process, many have made the supreme sacrifice.

6. As their Commander -In- Chief, I assure these our gallant men and women that I will continue to empower them by deepening their professionalism and providing all the necessary force multipliers and enablers required for them to prevail on the field. I am looking into all reported cases of inadequacies in relation to their entitlements, their welfare and those of their families.

7. We are diversifying away from reliance on oil to increased manufacturing capacity, solid minerals development, and agriculture.
8. Efforts are on course in the Niger Delta to clean up polluted lands, restore hopes of the youths in the region and re-establish livelihoods, and strengthen their capacity to guarantee for themselves and for our country a brighter future

9. The age-long conflict between herders and farmers that was being exploited by those seeking to plant the seeds of discord and disunity amongst our people, is being addressed decisively. We will sustain and continue to support the commendable efforts by all including civil society organisations, local and states governments and our traditional and religious leaders in finding durable solution to this problem.

10. This being a transhumance issue, we are working with countries in our region that are also facing similar difficulties to complement our common efforts. In this context I must warn that the perpetrators of murder and general mayhem in the name of defending or protecting herders or farmers will face the full wrath of the law. Meanwhile, we urge all peace loving Nigerians to reject any simplistic portrayal, at home or abroad, of this conflict as either religious or ethnic based.

11. We are one of the countries in the world most affected by environmental degradation, as a consequence of climate change. We are signatories to almost all conventions and agreements aimed at slowing down the effect of climate change and mitigating its now evident consequences.

12. The consequences on lives and livelihoods of the shrinking of the Lake Chad and the pollution caused by oil exploitation activities alone make it mandatory on us to be at the forefront of the struggle for a safer and more sustainable environment. We will continue to mobilise international support for our efforts in this regard.

13. We are making progress in the fight against corruption and recovery of stolen public funds and assets despite vicious and stiff resistance. The shameful past practice, of the brazen theft of billions of Naira is no more. Shady oil deals and public contracts that were never delivered have become things of the past.

14. Consequently, and this is very evident across the country, we have done more with less in infrastructural developments. Roads, railways, major bridges, schools, energy and power, air and sea ports, welfare of serving and retired personnel both civilian and military including payment of legacy debt such as pension arrears, have been attended to.

15. There is now an enabling environment for local and foreign investment in Nigeria. We are building a rules-based system – a level playing field that is free from fixers and intermediaries. This is the cornerstone to help genuine investors and honest consumers, and the platform that will allow for the real reforms that we intend to deliver over the coming years.

16. We are gradually strengthening the economy with a stable Naira and falling inflation rate. We are building an economy that is moving away from over reliance on oil. Consequently we have witnessed massive return to farms and seen bumper harvest, despite recurrent floods across the country.

17. These positive developments are the result of our collective pursuit of a common vision through hard work and dedication, after the missed opportunities and disappointments that followed the return to democracy in 1999.

18. At the forefront, have always been our youths. They have been at the vanguard of the struggle for independence. They fought in the war to keep the country united. And it was they who kept alive the struggle for democracy and human rights in our country at times when these were at risk, especially following the June 12 1993 election and the historic 2015 election process.

19. Even today, our youths play a central role in Nigeria’s continuing progress and developments in all fields of our national endeavour –technology, agriculture, mining, engineering and especially the creative arts. Together we are building a more diverse, inclusive and self-reliant economy.

20. In the past three years we have introduced many policies and programmes targeted at youth development and youth empowerment. We support the ‘not too young to run’ legislation aimed at giving the youths greater say in our national politics and governance.

21. The school feeding program in primary schools is aimed at encouraging enrolment and attendance. We are building on what we have already introduced to support schools and universities to which funds have recently been released for upgrade of facilities, training programs for our entrepreneurs, and rehabilitation schemes for victims of terrorism and human trafficking.

Fellow Nigerians,
22. Now we have in our hands technology that is a powerful tool that we can and should use for knowledge and understanding. As with other countries, we must also learn how to manage those tendencies that, instead, look to abuse new technologies to provoke passions and stir tensions.

23. Never before have we faced such a challenge. We must all rise to the responsibility of shutting out those disruptive and corrosive forces that hide in today’s world of social media. We need critical minds and independent thinking, to question and question until we are satisfied we have the facts. Otherwise, all the progress we have made as a democracy since 1999 is at stake.

24. I have committed myself many times to ensure that elections are fully participatory, free and fair and that the Independent National Electoral Commission will be exactly INDEPENDENT and properly staffed and resourced. The ballot box is how we make our choice for the governments that rule in our name.

Fellow Nigerians,
25. Developing a thriving democracy is not an easy task. There can be no quick fixes or short cuts. These are the most important lessons that we have learnt in our 58 years as an independent nation.

26. At the international level, we remain a responsible and respected member of the international community, playing active positive roles within ECOWAS, the African Union and the United Nations as well as all other regional and international organisations and institutions of which we are members.

27. We will continue to support initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges of our times: global and regional crises and conflicts, terrorism, trans-border crime, climate change, human rights, gender equality, development, poverty and inequality within and between nations, etc. In this context, we are working hard to achieve both the AU 2063 Agenda for socio-economic transformation of our continent; and the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, which together aim at addressing these challenges

Fellow Nigerians,
28. As we celebrate the 58 Anniversary of our independence, we know we are on the right path. Although we have our differences, they count for far less than the values, virtues and common aspirations that unite us as a nation. We have so much for which we should be grateful, and in which we should rightly take pride. Our journey is not finished but we have come a long way.

29. I want to assure you that as President, I will continue to work tirelessly to promote, protect and preserve what really matters: a united, peaceful, prosperous and secure Nigeria, where all, irrespective of background, can aspire to succeed.

Thank you. I wish you a memorable independence celebration.

Politics / Osun Rerun: Primate Ayodele Foresees PDP Winning In Osun State. by Daniyke88(m): 9:33am On Sep 27, 2018
Popular prophet and founder of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Ayodele has predicted the outcome of the Osun election ahead of the re-run that is set to be coordinated by INEC today.

The Prophet mentioned that a well-coordinated coalition of opposition parties would dethrone the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state, but warned that the ruling party may still win on technical grounds such as relying on loopholes in the nation’s electoral laws.

The prophet had said:
“In Osun State, some natural resources will boost the economy if the state will be discovered and harnessed. The state needs prayers against debts. I foresee that the people will kick against the present government of the state.

The coming election will be tough. I forsee that the APC, PDP and ADP will be the prominent political parties. The APC and PDP should be focused because either of the party will be enthroned. There will be series of political gang ups in the state.

The APC needs to win in technical ground so as to retain the the governorship seat otherwise ADP or PDP will take over.”

Politics / Adeleke: Alleged Threat To Life, Claims He’s Escaped 4 Assassination Attempts by Daniyke88(m): 6:08pm On Sep 26, 2018
He said his life has been under threat since he started campaigning to become governor.
Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun governorship election has raised alarm over the several threats to his life ahead of rerun of the Osun gubernatorial election on Thursday, September 27, 2018.

According to a report by Vanguard, Adeleke has written a letter to several diplomatic missions in Nigeria, including the European Union and United States, alleging that his life has been under threat since he started campaigning for governor.

In the letter, he claimed that he has escaped four assassination attempts on his life which remains under threat.

The election that originally took place on Saturday, September 22, 2018, was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, September 23.

This was because the victory margin of 353 votes of first-placed Adeleke (254,698 votes) over second-placed Gboyega Oyetola (254,345
votes) of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) was less than the 3498 votes cancelled in seven polling units in Orolu local government area (3 polling units), Ife South LGA (2), Ife North LGA (1) and Osogbo LGA (1).

With a rerun election set to take place on Thursday, Adeleke expressed his frustration with INEC’s decision to not declare him the winner. He accused the commission of stealing his votes and inflating the votes of the APC in what he called an assault on democracy.

The letter read, “I am constrained to write this letter to intimate you, our diplomatic partners and friends of despotic happenings in Osun governorship polls which I won but for which I was not declared the winner. My life is under threat and leaders of my party are under siege before and after Saturday’s main polls.

“During the campaigns, we were subjected to countless attacks. I escaped about four assassination attempts. Our campaign vehicles were severallly attacked and our rallies disrupted. We went through the pre-election process under constant onslaught from political thugs and merchants of violence.

“Despite the violence prone climate, I still won the election. On live television, our votes were removed and protestations for re-addition of the votes were rejected.

“Votes for the ruling party were jerked up and again the electoral umpire refused to correct the arithmetical errors. After all the manipulations which saw about 4000 votes removed from my total votes, I still won by close to 400 votes.

“In a brazen assault on democracy ,the returning officer in open breach of the constitution refused to declare me the winner even after fulfilling constitutional stipulations.

“The officer erroneously justified declaration of the election as inconclusive based on violence in seven out of about 3000 voting units across the state. It was a travesty of justice that is under challenge in court of law.

“Not satisfied with that rape of democracy, the ruling, APC immediately launched a coordinated manipulation agenda to rig the Thursday supplementary polls.

“Voters register of affected areas are been doctored;unclaimed voters cards are been shared out; massive vote buying are ongoing; and my supporters are been hounded. Democracy is clearly under threats.

“The agenda of the ruling party is to ensure that votes do not count. The target is to thwart the will of the people. The APC is out to subvert the will of the people ,an action that will have deeply negative impact on the sanctity of the electoral process ahead of 2019 polls.”

Adeleke called on the international community to prevail on President Muhammad Buhari and the APC to allow the people’s votes to count by restoring his mandate.

“We seek your intervention to prevent another rigging underway in Osun state. I am the holder of the sacred mandate of Osun people. We need the international community to assist Nigeria to make votes count,” he said.
