Good Day Everyone. Having been as far as an applicant could possibly go in the process without getting an offer (Rejected at Partner Interview Stage), I thought I would talk a bit about the process and share some tips with you guys that can hopefully help you land an offer. My Unit was MC- the smallest Unit. As most already know there are 4 main stages in the process although every unit has its own little difference usually at the AC stage. Dragnet Aptitude Test, Business Awareness Test, Assessment Centre, and Partner Interview. The most difficult stage in my opinion is probably the BAT just because you are under a lot of time pressure to complete the test (within 24 hours of receipt of notification) and you really dont have any clue as to how the test is scored or whether you are coming across as a KPMG person. The other 3 stages are easier to prepare for only because you at least have a better idea of what you are facing. My advice is to read up on the KPMG Global behaviours manual and try to tailor your answers accordingly. Now for TIPS. 1. Your academic qualifications dont matter as much as you think they do. Everybody with a 2.1 gets a chance regardless of School. Its up to you to show that you are the ideal fit for the firm. I have a Masters Degree with High Merit and I got rejected so dont worry about other people having more academic qualifications than you. 2. Make sure you are career-focused. By career-focused I mean you should be planning on building a career WITH KPMG. I think this was the biggest reason I got rejected. I looked at the traineeship as a stepping stone to greater things rather than a chance to build a career in the firm. As I learnt the hard way, nothing annoys a partner more than you telling them you see your long term career somewhere else lol. 3. At the assessment centre, your approach is more important than the final answer. All they look for at the assessment centre stage is your approach to certain situations. How you think about business issues, how you work in a team, how you present yourself. Expect random business questions from anywhere. Dont panic. Come up with a thought process and communicate this process to the interviewers. Be articulate and you will be OK 4. Important questions that may come up in the interview include a time you manipulated data to gain insight, your gtratest achievements, how you handled conflict situation in a team setting, your approach to team work. Makre sure you have at least 3 real life examples for every situation. 5. Above all, just relax and be confident. It is not the end of the world if you dont land an offer. Control what you can control and leave the rest to God. If you get to the last two stages, know that they are very interested in you so you dont need to panic. Walk in with confidence and dont give them any reason to think that they made the wrong decision showing interest in you. Simple. Wish you guys all the best. Hope your stories are better thah mine in the end. Now excuse me while I go find a job. |
Finally some decent news. This man should have been on life salary ages ago only now when the election is approaching have they found their senses. He should never ever have to starve again. |
This right here is the problem with Nigeria. HOW on earth has this thug not been detained yet? He supervised the ASSAULT of a Legal official and he is still roaming the streets even getting prepared for his inauguration. Wasn't this man part of a very high-profile corruption scandal only a few years back? Yet he has somehow found his way BACK in the governor's house in the same state where openly robbed the citizenry. Just amazing the way this country works sometimes. And we have people on this thread DEFENDING HIM. Unbelievable. Yet everyday we get the same people blinded by "patriotism" telling us Nigeria will get better. How can the country get better when some of us still condone men like Fayose? |
I was applying for my student visa the other day and was reading stories of the stress Nigerians have to go through just to get a student visa. The CORRUPTION in our country has made our passport absolutely worthless. Everywhere you go with a green passport you get second looks, they take you aside to search you specially. When you get to the border of international airports they ask you more questions than most cuz they assume every Nigerian is out to swindle people. Nigeria is decaying every day and we still have people telling us to accept everything because of patriotism. People are going out to learn and come back and try to improve the country's image and they are called traitors. Backward thinking is why our country is in the shitter right now. Go out and see success stories all over the world and try and take some of what they have done and try to apply it here instead of abusing criticizing those who are trying to go abroad to learn a thing or two and hopefully one day come back and apply it here. All that patriotism shit is worn off for me. I will go wherever opportunity takes me. If the opportunity is in Nigeria, i'll go there too. If the opportunity is else where, i'm moving. The world is much smaller these days. Better move with the times or be left behind. |
Goldenboy007: I hate it when people speak like local champions ! We won't have a black American president now if Obama or his parents had confined him in Kenya or if he had decided to relocate to Kenya. We Africans live and die in a small locality ! We never see beyond our nose that's why the continent is still backward ! We don't explore beyond our territory! The greatest discoveries were made by travelers ! Elon Musk left South Africa for the US and today he is one of the youngest Billionaires - Tesla cars and SpaceX, the guys that sold WhatsApp were immigrants and so much more! You claim to be a professional but you are just one bloody local champion - a one-eye king in the land of the blind ! I won't mince or mise words when I say Nigeria is light years behind their western counterpart in everything ! Should we promote mediocrity in the name of patriotism ? Your educational system is backward, your financial system is backward, your governing system is backward and corrupt ! So what the heck are you talking about? Your definition of progress is when a whole state voted in a criminal as state governor, influenced by bags of rice? Its only lower animals that thrive on survival instinct ! A Nigeria is now the VC of University of Illinois, I wonder if he had been in Nigeria he would be an HOD in one unknown university because VC position is a political appointment in his fatherland ! Break free of this your fatherland mentality because the world is bigger than Nigeria ! When you die and meet God, let's be able to tell Him " I lived in the "WORLD" as He had destined you and not as a local champion in your little village !I totally agree with everything you have said. A lot Africans ESPECIALLY NIGERIANS never want to get out of their comfort zone. Apparently they are comfortable living in a country where CRIMINALS are elected with ease, half the population cannot even find 3 square meals. They'd rather suffer in Nigeria than try to explore the world and come back. LOL If you leave Nigeria to better educate yourself, you are a traitor. That is their mentality. The idiotic politicians that they are electing have their children go abroad and come back exploit the population by giving them bags of rice for a vote. What a farce. |
For me I see no problems with Nigerians who want to move abroad. When your country cannot even provide its citizens with the most BASIC needs of life what the hell is the point of staying in the country and suffering all in the name of "patriotism"? Nigeria is supposed to be one of Africa's richest countries yet we cannot give our citizens constant electric power supply? How on earth does that work? I understand that I am speaking from the position of a middle class Nigerian but the story remains the same. It's not possible to live a stress free life in Nigeria if you do not AT LEAST have middle class money. Being a working class Nigerian living in Nigeria is a death sentence. WHY? One thing I like about most Nigerians is that we do not ask for much. ALL most of us want is to live a nice life with all the basic amenities provided CONSTANTLY and a steady source of income for ourselves and our families. Nigeria cannot even provide that. Some people leave the country because they are frustrated with just the electric power supply situation. I lived in Nigeria for 16 years and not ONCE did we actually have constant power supply. Yet we rake in all kinds of cash from not only oil exports but also other agricultural exports. WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING? Then we get into our deeply useless education system. Not ONE Nigerian University in the top 1,000 schools in the world and we're supposed to be the giants of Africa? How does that work? Added to this is deeply ingrained system of CORRUPTION in the country. Starting from the idiots in positions of power right down to the common man. Literally everybody is crooked in Nigeria these days. It is literally impossible to have lived in Nigeria for more than two years without having to pay off someone to get something done. Why must that be the case? Why can't due process be followed? Nigeria is a like a really bad concoction. Extremely hot and humid weather that only gets worse with generator fumes every night even though we're supposed to have one of the world's largest oil reserves THEN we add on top of that the most corrupt politicians on planet earth who will literally kill and sacrifice to ensure that their position in power is maintained for as long as possible THEN finally we add, a largely apathetic population that cannot see what its government is OPENLY doing to it. After reading that, it is not difficult at all to see why people cannot stay again. There is literally NO aspect of life in Nigeria that has not been touched yet by corruption and frustration. It's a deadly mix and if people have the chance the get the hell out legally, they need to grab that chance with two hands. At least get yourself a proper education somewhere else and then return to Nigeria if you really love it so much and believe it will change. As far as i'm concerned, I'm not entirely sure I see where this so called "change" will start from. We're about to go the polls for ANOTHER election that has a former military general who is not content with the money he chopped in 1985 and is trying to return to get some more, a former vice president part of an immensely CORRUPT system and an equally CORRUPT and daft political figurehead who has already shown he cannot run this country properly as the leading potential candidates and all of us are going to take ourselves to the polls next year and decide between the SAME people who have been ruling and DUPING us in some capacity for more than 20 years. Like a stupid f****** dog that goes back to its vomit every single time. Absolutely disgusting. They no longer even hide it like they used to. They OPENLY steal money from our pockets every day and continue to get away with it. Only VIOLENT resistance can change Nigeria. Our politicians understand no other BUT violence. The citizens are the only ones who can change Nigeria. Either you rise up and demand PROPER and lasting reforms or you continue to get duped. I watched the Arab Spring revolutions and though to myself if only these protesters can come to Nigeria and see the situation of the citizens, maybe they might appreciate their situation a bit more. If ANY country needed a revolution the most, it is NIGERIA. RANT OVER. |
"Codedrock: WHATS THE BIG DEAL HERE?? I was ordered to come out to the front of the whole class and raise up my hands and close my eyes before our vacation this last semester in ODUDUA UNIVERSITY ILE IFE, and it was my pleasure.. EVERYBODY is GONNA laugh at you and you are gonna be popular." LOL SMH. This is part of the problem with our educational system right here. Nobody wants to learn anymore. So you're in school to be popular and you will do literally ANYTHING (including being treated like a four year old) just to be popular. Have to set your priorities right. You should not have paid all that cash just for popularity. I've said for many years and will say again that schools like Covenant University are a joke. If at 20 years old, you cannot be trusted to manage your life independently, then God knows when you'll be able to do so. Private schools are just money-making schemes designed to con gullible Nigerians out of their money. If you go to work and mess up, you will be FIRED, not be asked to kneel down and face the wall. The whole point of a University is to shape you into the man or woman you will be in the future. Nobody should be telling you more than once when an assignment is due. It is your responsibility to see that you do it without pressure, that is the true test of maturity. The ability to do things without being told twice. And when you finish from a proper University, It should not only be a confirmation of your intellectual capacity but also a confirmation of the fact that you are able to handle yourself without ANY supervision. |
LOL I think some of us are a bit deluded here. No single Nigerian University deserves to be in the top 3000 universities in the world. EVERY SINGLE ONE is below standard compared to even some universities in Africa. South African Universities are infinitely better. If we can't even rule Africa then don't even go near European and North American Universities. Even the best private university in Nigeria cannot compete with the standard of mid-level European Universities. Top 100? HAHA. please don't make me laugh. They don't shut down school because the teachers are not being paid any salary or shut down school because it is plagued with serious issues of cultism and gangs. It's only in Nigerian Universities that people are treated like they are two year olds. Stupid rules like no jeans, no cellphones, you can't do certain kinds of hairstyles, have to go for assembly, LMAO. Wake up and smell the coffee, the educational system in our country is finished. We have to start from scratch. |
kofoshi: APC is yet to field a presidential candidate and here you are already crying blue murder.Ok then so can you tell me who I am directing the quotes at? |
The state of Nigerian politics is hilariously sad. It is so hopeless that I can't do anything but laugh. Why exactly does the tribe of the eventual candidate matter? Are we not supposed to be operating a meritocracy in this country? The man to lead the APC should be man with the best plans for Nigeria REGARDLESS of his tribe. This is the NUMBER ONE reason why APC will fail. Too many conflicting interests. The alliance will eat itself from the inside. How many of these new alliances have we had and yet ALL have the same purpose, to go to Aso Rock, eat as much money as possible and get out before anyone is smart enough to notice. We CONSTANTLY continue to support men who do not give a damn about this country or its people but want to use you to get to the position of power and reveal their true colour and we call them "reformers". LOL reformers? you tell me what they want to do for this country that is markedly different from what is being done right now. 98% of the politicians in this country are the same and the 2% will never get elected because they rightfully refuse to stoop to the level of animals. |
Sisi_Kill: Then should stop asking us to pray for them so they can do what can carry out their political responsibilities, yes?So you think that is what he means by religion and politics mixing? WOW. |
this guy is a joke. Along with his SNG. They are not interested AT ALL in "saving Nigeria". You want to line your pockets so what better way to do it than to take advantage of the current widespread opposition to Jonathan's style of rule. CLASSIC dictatorial tactic. take advtange of the nationalistic feeling and use it to your advantage. Only difference us that this time hopefully our people aren't as stupid as the Germans were in 1933, or the Libyans were in the 1980s or the Egyptians were. also this has NOTHING to do with freedom of speech. Anybody will know that freedom os speech has its limits. I can't go to the front of the presidential Villa and say that I will bomb the villa in two weeks and walk out of there free. |
This guy doesn't stop does he? He is talking himself into obscurity cuz he's so annoying and irritating. Why can't he just STFU for ONE SECOND. |
ypzilanti: Wow...really wow!LOL my "putrid" brain? I won't abuse you cuz it's a childish thing to do. I can categroically tell you that Fashola has broken SEVERAL traffic laws. EVERY governor in Nigeria has done this. Do you need evidence to prove that? HELL NO. So why would a man who has broken traffic laws now try to put on a show for the cameras by "arresting" someone else? Is that not what they call Hypocrisy? But i'll leave all the ACN broomshakers and the PDP fans to argue this out. As far as i'm concerned Nigerian Politics is nothing to rite home about which is why I could care less about ANY party in this country. Let me leave with my so called "putrid" brain. LOL |
Demdem: The question u should be asking ursef is Do they pass the lane itself? Fashola is the only Governor i know that doesnt break traffic laws. When there is traffic, u will see him there enduring. thats leadership by example. Why wont his wife follow suit. Av u seen tinubu passing the lane at all? That isnt really the point I am trying to make. Let me try and explain this in further detail. I am pretty sure that Fashola has some friends who have DEFINITELY used the BRT lane before right? if by chance he sees any of them, do you think he would arrest them? My answer is NO. My point is while this is a clear statement of intention from the governor, we should not read too much into this. It was very easy to arrest these men because He has NO sentimental / soft spot for any of them. Favouritism is the BANNER of the Nigerian government in EVERY STATE. Even in Lagos. |
This is all well and good and I commend BRF for his efforts but let us ask ourselves. If Fashola saw Tinubu or his wife's entourage passing that lane, would he arrest them? I think we all know the answer to that. |
CHRIST. Can't this dude ever shut up? You won. Are you not happy? Just continue what you did in your first term and forget about stupid things like "margin" Sheesh. |
Sorry this list is all messed up. There is NO Nigerian fast food chain with a bigger reach than Mr Biggs in Nigeria. Mr Biggs is SO popular that when some kids in my village want to go and eat out they refer to Mr. Biggs. This is not about quality or anything like that but PURELY BRAND NAME? NOBODY in the Nigerian fast food business is even CLOSE to Mr. Biggs' brand name. Mr Biggs is like the Mcdonalds of Nigeria. What of Dangote? I bet that at least 75% of Nigeria has consumed a dangote product before. (NOTE: Consume does not necessarily mean to eat or to put something in your mouth. It could be cement for houses and all that). I'm sorry but this is a Bad list. Nice try though. I can agree with some. |
Complete Madness. These are supposed to be students. These are supposed to be the leaders of tomorrow. And you wonder why Nigeria is going down the drain. SMH. Plus who is this idiot from gurubase posting his nonsense here? WTF get that shit off the forum. |
LOL this s a complete joke. A landlocked country that will have to deal with Boko Haram on their own. FYI just because you want to declare a country does not mean that the physical land is now automatically separated from everyone else. Secondly, you're going to have to start from scratch forming a new government, drafting a new constitution. You can sure that there will be a lot of infighting and you are doing ALL THIS while bothering about the threat of Boko Haram. Finally, I am not so sure that many countries will recognize the republic of Biafra. Only four countries recognized the "republic" the last time they tried this nonsense. The big boys are also dealing with separatism in their countries ( UK is dealing with Scotland, US is dealing with Alaska, Canada is dealing with Quebec, China is dealing with Tibet, Russia is dealing with Chechnya). If they recognize your country it will mean that they are supporting separatism and will start up a shitstorm in their respective countries. I urge you to think twice before trying this. It is most likely that this will not end well. We are all in this together. We do not hate the igbos (like most of them like to think). Trying to run away will do you NO FAVOURS. It will just compound your problem. Let us fight Boko Haram together. |
Talking from experience. It is FAR from a bed of roses. To start with have it att he back of your mind that you are one of MILLIONS of immigrantsi nthat country. Also have it at the back of your mind that since oyu are not a native of that country the chances are it's gonna be harder to get things there than natives. Keep in mind that there are natives/ citizens of that country who have also graduated with degrees and are looking for jobs. Also consider the fac that over the last ten or so years, there is a rise in very strong anti-immigrant undertones abroad. And there is increasing dislike for immigrants. So you have to stand out. You've gottta show your employer why you should be picked over all those others. It goes far beyond qualifications cuz those people are just as qaulified as you and they are citizens and natives of the country while you aren't so they have a slight advantage. I wish the best of luck and May God help you in your journey there. |
This thread is a PERFECT example of why Nigeria is going down the drain everyday. Our people are daft. A man is offering to prosecute a BLATANT thief of this nation's wealth for free and you come out and abuse him? REGARDLESS of the motive behind his doing it, the fact thatt his man wants to bring a crook to book is what matters and yet you all abuse him. And I do not get why Nigerians are taking sides with TWO THIEVES? It's just amazing. Lawan is a thief as well but SO IS OTEDOLA. I do not care if Otedola was trying to set Lawan up. The fact is this man is a thief he has stolen money from this country and we are too blind and daft to realize this. SMH. I wish him all the best in his efforts. The sooner ALL the crooks in this country are brought to book the better. The crooks in Nigeria are the Anchor that is refusing to let the Nigerian ship move. When they are removed this country will MOVE FORWARD. |
